Jan '07: Finally, we can reach to cut our toenails, see to groom our ladygardens, and have norks the size of norway. Shame we're too tired to give a damn!

LTH - Yes I think most carseats are better these days anyway and ours does lie flat almost but I'm such a worrier lol. We have one of these at the moment for Ethan carseat

theUrbanDryad · 04/03/2007 14:52

Jodie that looks exceptionally posh! unfortunately we have a bit of a budget baby so he's in his 2nd hand chav-el system!! i mainly use the sling anyway!!

annie - yes there is Spaced season 2 here ooh i love doing links - makes me feel all clever!!

ellieandhattie · 04/03/2007 16:00

Been busy today, christening of friends lo went really well hattie passed around a bit but think she liked all the cuddles. At the IL's at the mo so just popped up to read this whilst the rest of them watch the football {yawn emoticion} think we are going to stay here and do the dd's their baths and leave at bed time as sil,bil and their 2 children just turned up and ellie loves playing with her older cousins.

annie ours is a mamas and papas car seat to and I think that she always looks to upright in it!

ellieandhattie · 04/03/2007 16:01

2Happy · 04/03/2007 17:11

2Happy - right for me

DH doing my head in right now - I have asked him to lay a path in the front garden so I don't have to push the pram over the grass or gravel (not easy!). He's gone into a DIY frenzy and keeps coming up with more and more elaborate and totally unrealistic ideas (he's been watching Grand Designs all afternoon) - he is DRIVING ME INSANE!!!!!!!!!!! All I want is a simple path with a few paving slabs!!! Ahhhh, sorry, had to get that off my chest.

Jacob is currently laying under his baby gym gurgling at me and generally being cute.

BTW, how much sleep should a 7 week old be having during the day? Jacob probably has around 3-4 hours between 7am-9pm.

I really haven't got much to say and am just rambling so am off now before you all fall asleep

StevenLeia · 04/03/2007 17:56

Hi all, does anyone remember my DP writing about riley whilst i was in hospital, i wanted to say personaly a big thankyou to all the support you gave him. I'm not sure how to add little rileys name the the list of babies born in Jan, so ill just type it here? Riley Alfie Hale 25th jan 51b 7 oz.

LadyTophamHatt · 04/03/2007 17:59

Vino, I've never used those little tongs to make the bottles...EVER!!
I threw them in the bin as soon as the steriliser came out of the box this time.

Poor ole' George already gets his dummy just washed under the tap if its been dropped. If the big Ds's have touched the teat I get him a clean one because of their grubby hands but otherwise its just a quick rinse under the tap...if he's lucky!!

Wilkie, good news about the formula. I can't rember how long it took DS3 to get over the SMA troubles. I remember a diffenence over the first 24 hours but I'm sure it probably took a few days to really "cleanse him"

Tight waist bands are a no-no here too....

theUrbanDryad · 04/03/2007 18:11

yup those details are right for me 2Happy!

trixymalixy · 04/03/2007 18:32

Aha, I knew there would be a proper way of taking a newborn round in the supermarket. Thanks!

I hate having DS in the car seat too he is always so still that I have to keep poking him to make sure he's still breathing.

Wilkie - glad things seem to be getting better! According to the baby whisperer newborns should sleep for about 5 hours during the day, but my DS never gets anywhere near that!

2happy - that's right for me too.

Vino, when I had a really bad cracked nipple, I used avent breast shells to keep my nipple from sticking to my clothes or hydrocolloid dressings.

vinorouge · 04/03/2007 18:36

2happy - details right for me

EAH - I've got the tommee tippee closer to nature bottles cos I got the breat pump free with one bottle so I got the same steriliser. out me going back to work snowballed in my head and I was on a mission yesyerday. Work not til July so its not like there isn't plenty of time is there.

Sterilising is one thing, the next worry was how on earth to bottle feed. It all seems so much effort and am only trying it cos HV said if she's not had a teat by now she might not take one so worry about what I'll do when I go back to work snowballed in my head and I was on a mission yesyerday. Work not til July so its not like there isn't plenty of time is there. what age do babies have milk until??? Hmmm my lack ofbaby knowledge showing here.....

DH and I soon friends again...I do get hung up over little things so will chill out a bit over the sterilising. Not tried expressing today as too busy trying to prevent crack getting worse. It seems to be ok (I hope), chatted a lot to the lady on NCT line who I've spoken to before. she thinks I should get anto fungal cream for thrush cos of achy breast and fact I've had one crack or another since Ellen born. Off to the drs for me tomorrow. She also suggested DH tries giving Ellen milk from a soft teat toddler cup - has anyone else done this? It seems a bit odd to me but she described it as a fun thing for them to do rather than a full feed.

Today we've had a walk round a local reservoir in pouring rain which cleaned the pram wheels from yesterday's muddy walk - handy! Got bread and butter pud in the oven which will satisfy my sweet tooth tonight.

Shimmer - I have a Tomy front sling like UD and it was from asdaliving if you have one near you cos cheaper therethan mothercare altho its not the one in mothercare at the mo.

wilkie - glad aptamil is seeming to help - fingers crossed. My dh is a grand designs fan too!

laughalot · 04/03/2007 18:57

Yep details are right for me to

Wilkie glad j is a little better with the milk heres hoping that it sorts him out for you . My dh goes away a week on monday so im off to my mum and dads for the week and im dreading it as lauren is in her own room at home but at my folks she will have to share with me, I dont sleep properly because you just hear every little whimper they make.

Well thought my ds was getting better no sickness or diorreah yesterday but had some diorreah today the bloke at the hospital said not to feed him for 24 hrs but it is imposible for him not to have anything all day im getting a little worried now he is fine in himself still playing with his toys but he has lost loads of weight and is very pale they did say at the hospital to take a sample of his poo to my local gp surgery to be tested if he is not better by monday so that will be fun scraping crap into a stool pot .

Little lauren is fine she slept well again last night down a bit later at 10 slept till 2.30 back for 3.15 woke up at 8.

Dragonhart · 04/03/2007 19:12

2Happy - Ruth was 6lbs3 but everything else is right.

Wilki- Ruth seems to spend most of her time asleep! Sleeps at night and naps after every feed. Spend my tim poking her to make sure she is ok! DS1 however used to be up all day, although he slept well at night. HV used to make me worry about how little he slept in the day but he was fine. It used to be pretty wearing though as he used to cry quite alot especially at tea time. It got better after he could do things and sit up. Think he used to get grumpy and bored. Looking out of the window used to help and I still get him to look out of it now to destract him when he gets grumpy.

Shimmer- I have a tomy one too but I have to say I hate it. Sure they are good but it just doesnt fit me well being so tall. I tried one of those bit of material ones that urban showed you and i thought they were ace! tried it on when i was 6months preg with ds1 who was about 28lbs at the time and he felt really light. had it on for about 10mins though so after a while it might not be as good? Didnt buy it though as it was £50 which seemed alot for a bit of material and a set of instructions!

R has started settling really well for dh at bed time, he just holds her until he gets heavy and floppy (just afew mins) then puts her down and she stays asleep. When I do it though, her eyes pop open as soon as I put her down and she syarts crying. Feeling very ! Mind you I have told him he can have the job if he wants it!

Dragonhart · 04/03/2007 19:14

Sorry ds is poorly laughalot. Hope he is 100% soon.

ellieandhattie · 04/03/2007 19:56

Well what alot of posts firstly

laughalot hope ds better soon and you have a good week at your folks

vinrouge I had tommee tippe bottles could never get the teats to fit without using my hands only used it a couple of time s as hattie couldnt get on with the teats they sould be winging their way to jodieg1 in te post but seem to be lost somewhere at the mo! Ellie had morning and night bottles/milk till she was around 18 months, however stuck her on follw on milk at 6 months and full fat cows milk at 10 months (eeek naughty me you aren't meant to give them cows milk till 1 but she was fine and it was a damn sight cheaper!) she still has a cu of hot milk when she wakes and hot chocolate before bed.

2happy all my details are correct and intrigued what the new title will be?????/

wilkie glad J seems happier hopefully combination of things will work for hom all the time. Hattie sleeps a good 3 hours in the morning but tends to be awake from around 1pm-7pm and just has cat naps of about 10 minutes here and there in the afternoon. You'll have to post a pic of dh's grand design on your garen when he has finished I've got a company coming out tomorrow to quote us for a new drive as ours is so wobbly and naff that me or one of the dd's will trip on it soon, can't dcide on tarmac or block paving think it'll depend on the cost!

Welcome stevenleia and congrats I'm sure you'll catch up with all of the thread soon (theres another one prior to this we tend to talk alot)

Right ironing is calling me (well its not but need to do it) and have got Hatties first set of injections tomorrow so better get it done incase shes grumpy

ellieandhattie · 04/03/2007 19:58

oops laughalot just reread your post and dh doesnt go away for another week sorry!!

theUrbanDryad · 04/03/2007 19:58

you can make those wrap things i'm sure!! it's just a long, wide strip of material isn't it? and the instructions are online!! i tell you, put "baby" in front of a product name and the price goes way up!!

ellieandhattie · 04/03/2007 19:59

excuse all the typos in long post must sort keyboard out as letters keep getting stuck

theUrbanDryad · 04/03/2007 20:00

EAH Zac has his first set of jabs tomorrow too - i'm dreading it!

ellieandhattie · 04/03/2007 20:10
