Wow, very busy on here!

Thaks for the Spaced tip UD - ordered the box set from Amazon!

Ellieandhattie- nice to know there is another Solomon out there - first one I have heard of. I registered Lauren today - it has taken me 6 weeks as I wasn't sure about her name - I really like it but perhaps becuase I have heard of lots of Laurens (2 others on this thread) I didn't wamt her to have a really popular name!! Well the deed is done now so I can stop dithering, claim child benefit and open a bank account for her. Anyone know when we get our £250 from the Government??

2 happy - can you add Lauren Rose's name to the born list....Ta

Lizz, thanks for the herbs tip for boobs - LAuren and I have thrush so I may have a look for the vinegar...

Hear baby screaming must go...

ellieandhattie · 05/03/2007 20:35

annie once you have registered for child benefit the voucher for the £250 gets sent automatically

I love the name Lauren I only know one other Lauren (my neighbours little girl) apart from the 2 on here so not to popular

Shimmer · 05/03/2007 22:07

Ohhhh just been watching the program about the unmentionable woman. very interesting! Just watched the bit about her vs. mumsnet... apparently she is sueing. Better not say any more i spose....

Took Freddie to his first baby massage class today, which went pretty well. I'm not convinced he really enjoyed the massage but he was quite good and didn't cry too much and it was nice to meet some more people with babies the same age. I felt a bit of an expert actually after reading about all your experiences - I think I've heard just about everything there is to hear about birth and babies from you guys!!

Saw a heavily pregnant woman in the street today and for the first time since Freddie was born felt quite sad I wasn't expecting a baby any more.... Thought about "the next one" for the first time today , which is just ridiculous. I think if i told DP he'd hit the roof!!!!

GF program finished and now something called "having a baby ruined my life"!!!Oh Great. It's quite sad actually.

theUrbanDryad · 05/03/2007 22:48

hmph - i wanted to watch that program but it was on cable or something. crap.

well Z has been ok this evening - was a bit whinge

theUrbanDryad · 05/03/2007 22:50

hmph - i wanted to watch that program but it was on cable or something. crap.

well Z has been ok this evening - was a bit whingey this afternoon but dh came home early and settled him. he actually seemed happier off me still, i should be grateful i suppose. he's asleep now, have just done a dream feed, we'll see how long he stays asleep.

night night, sleepy baby wishes to you all!

vinorouge · 06/03/2007 07:42

Bet that prog was interesting but I don;t have cable so had no idea it was on. Oh well. I was relaxing in the bath! Ellen came in the bath with me for a bit, she lies on my tummy with head between my boobs so only her bum and feet are in the water then I splash water on her body. DH holds her up while I wash her hair and she loves it. Sore boob still SORE so have had a few tears this morning about it all. The EBM worked last night and DH loved feeding her although it made me feel a bit odd...

I am going back to work 3 days Mon-Weds, it was unofficially sorted out with my boss before I left but I should be contacting work now too. You are organised Wilkie! I was organised enough to sort out a nursery place though

Baby cafe this morning so will get some BF support there - feel like I really need it today.

RGee · 06/03/2007 07:43

Bugger. I meant to watch that programme but forgot and was in bed at 9. I guess you can't say much about it. Lovely night last night. She was in bed by 7pm, then woke at 12.30 and 5.

EAH - I dispute the most beautiful dd!! Check out my lo. Must upload some more photos.

I'm off to the designer outlet today. They have a cheaper priced Thorntons there so I'll be checking out the Easter selection for you all. An egg each

Does anyone else burp when they wind their lo??

RGee · 06/03/2007 07:44

Morning Vino. I LOVE having a bath with the lo. It's sooooo nice and we both enjoy it!

Lizzzombie · 06/03/2007 08:24

Vino - it does get better fairly quickly, you poor thing. I had a few feeds where I just sobbed my head off during them.
I watched the CH5 program last night. Very interesting.
The one afterwards was good to. It was about parents who were not really enjoying themselves. There were some freaks on there though, and my DP was laughing at me shouting at the TV. Some nasty fat woman on it was going on about how she was surprised at how her life had to suddenly be all about her child. Like - doh.

Lizzzombie · 06/03/2007 08:27

Anyone watching GMTV?
6 month old walking! I am so gonna make mine do that!

Shimmer · 06/03/2007 08:46

Lizz - I just saw that 6 month old walking! They said he was sitting unaided by 3 months, so only about another month to get our LOs on track for that!!

I did prop freddie up in the corner of the sofa the other day and he did a pretty good job at sitting against the cushions for about 5 minutes so thats a start i spose! And I've put a picture of him sitting there on my profile... just to prove that I have the cutest baby EVER!!

theUrbanDryad · 06/03/2007 09:03

we had quite a quiet night here too - i kept Zac downstairs with us till we went to bed so did him a dream feed at half ten, then he woke again at quarter past 3 and was a bit whingey and running a slight temp till 4ish, then he went back down...not quite the scenario of mopping small fevered brows i had imagined!!! he's very clingy and sucky today though...i've tried giving him a dummy again but he's having none of it!

EAH how was your night?
sympathies to the mastitis sufferers!!

ellieandhattie · 06/03/2007 09:09

okay rgee i'll share the cutest dd title with you

shimmer I love that stripey outfit how cute!

Sky + that programme last night will try and watch it later

Hope sore boob is better soon. Quick post today as need to get organised as going out this morning to see my brother at work as he has put by a returned tom tom sat nav system at work that is being sold of for £50 so going to go and buy it as I am useless at directions and hate driving anywhere new especially if I have dd's with me!

ellieandhattie · 06/03/2007 09:12

ooooh I forgot in all my excitement to tell you about my fab night hattie slept from 9.30 to almost 5am yipeee yipeee (think the 2.5ml of clapol may have helped!!) I know 8 weeks was such a turning point with sleep when ellie was a baby so heres hoping hatties the same.

Glad your night wasn't to bad ud

wilkie50 · 06/03/2007 09:31

Morning all. We didn't have the best night with him - he was really sleepy all evening so put him to bed at 8.30 then he woke at 12.30am, 3.30am and I got up with him at 6.15am

Watched that program last night. Found it a bit sad really, this young couple were really struggling to follow 'the book' and it reminded me of my BF - she tried it for two weeks and ended up very depressed. She gave up but really regrets even trying it now cos she feels she missed out on enjoying the first two weeks of her LO's life. Best stop discussing now although I am dying to....

Is everyone else still demand feeding? I want to try and get Jacob to go 3.5 hours between feeds instead of 3hrs. Do you think I should try and stretch it?

Shimmer - your LO is gorgeous. Still can't upload my cute photo. Very annoying!!

EAH - at your night!

theUrbanDryad · 06/03/2007 09:42

wilkie - i'm still feeding on demand...sometimes he goes up to 6 hours without a feed, then sometimes he can be every hour! not sure how i would stretch it, my mum says to leave him to cry for a minute or so before i feed him, but i find it very hard, and if i do leave him (even for a minute!) he gulps so fast he gives himself terrible wind and ends up being sick!

Lizzzombie · 06/03/2007 09:58

Shimmer - love the brown stripy babygrow. Where was that from? I can't upload any more photos for some reason. It just keeps crashing.
Have to say that I think generally all babies born in January are the cutest [diplomatic smily!]
Re. demand feeding, am I being a div. Does that mean you just feed him when he starts crying for it?
I'm reading the baby whisperer at the moment, & it seems to be about what I am doing anyway. My clockwork baby wakes up for a feed every 3 hours. And inbetween I keep him awake for a bit and put him down for a sleep for a bit. Am hesitant to use the word 'routine' but it seems to be! Am looking forward to having him feed every 4 hours though instead of 3.
I reckon walking at 6 months no problem, talking by 8 months...bring it on! x

wilkie50 · 06/03/2007 10:01

Yes Lizz - that's demand feeding. I just sometimes think I maybe feed J when he's crying because it is three hours since his last feed so I am assuming he's hungry.

I can't upload photos either x

laughalot · 06/03/2007 10:47

Wilkie when I was trying to get lauren to go from 3 hrs to 4 hrs between feeds I used to give her some cooled boiled water at the 3hr feed that seemed to settle her untill the 4th hour and now she feeds every 4hrs give it a go it may work.

Lauren had last feed at 8 then slept till 1 setteled by 2 woke up at 6.

2Happy · 06/03/2007 11:33

Lizzz, I think you'll find it's february babies who are the cutest
Is the programme repeated any time does anyone know?
ds2 slept an inordinate amount yesterday. making up for it today by being a whingy bugger...

OP posts:
vinorouge · 06/03/2007 13:21

I demand feed and sometimes its 1 hour other times its 4 hours between feeds and anywhere inbetween! I hold her up to my boob and if she goes for it through my clothes I let her feed. If she carries on crying I check her nappy, change if necessary and then try again. Check wind next if I remember. Very rare for her not to be interested in feeding!

Had my feeding position checked at baby cafe and all ok. Home now, mum coming tomorrow for a shoulder to cry on/extra pair of hands and am now going to start my new resolution of having a daily nap cos just feel exhausted by 6-7ish every day.

vinorouge · 06/03/2007 13:22

EAH - I was pleased Ellen liked the TT bottles and teats cos it means I don;t have to buy any! Hope you got your tom tom.

ellieandhattie · 06/03/2007 13:44

vinrouge i got all confused reading your last post reading tt as 'take that' oops stupid emoticon.

I now realise you meant tommie tippe duh stupid and also thought you were talking about my ellie and got her name wrong then realised you were talking about your dd ellen how thick am I today, how comes you didnt have to buy any bottles did yours come free with a steriliser?

Got my tom tom at its bargain price just got to put it in car and work out how to use it. Also went shopping got ellie a princess dressing up dress (dont know why she was being so naughty!)got both dd's some summer clothes and I vowed I wouldnt dress them the same but have bought them both a beige pleated skirt and cream crinkle shirts with pink roses on as it was so cute to see them in their appriopriate (sp) sizes and they were only from primark cost £12 for both outfits, also got ellie some shortie dora pj's for the summer and hattie some short sleeved/legs babygros for pjs in the summer so had a little spend in there. I know alot of people dont like primark but I think some of the childrens clothes are fine and often get t-shirts for ellie for £1 that do for playing in the garden/putting over swimsuits at the beach etc and I don't care what happens to them for that price.

Wilkie I give Hattie cool boiled water between feeds and she can go 3hr45mins in day and just gets whingey 15mins before feed due so may be worth ago as he may be thirsty and not hungary after 3hrs

katwith3kittens · 06/03/2007 13:57

Loving the pooh stories !

Had a similar explosion this morning, luckily I was at home as I dont think I would have coped if it had happened in public !

I came close to cutting off the vest with scissors like I was an extra in Casualty, and only didn't because (typically) he was wearing a really cute one I bought from France !

Why do they always dirty their best outfits ?

By the way, what washing powder can you recommend to get out those stains. I'm using ecover at 40 degrees, but I dont think its much good - I think I'll try it at 60 next.

Watched the Dumbledore thing last night and thought it was quite sad. Nothing really prepares you for motherhood, but its so important to make the most of those early days. Sometimes I feel sad that we didnt have our little one home for 8 days.

Shimmer · 06/03/2007 15:42

Lizz the stripy outfit was from \here{http://www.bobandblossom.com} Hope I did that right

Wilkie I found freddie just went from wanting feeding every 3 hrs to 3.5 on his own (though he still has the first 2 of the morning 3 hrs apart...and then sometimes at the end of the day too...). I always just wait until he seems to want feeding (freddie's quite obvious with this he gets quite grumpy and starts sort of waving his head around and sticking his tongue out)which kind of is demand feeding, though it worked out pretty much every 3 hours to start with anyway. I don't think there's ANY point in making a baby wait for feeding if he's hungry! (or feeding every 3 hrs on the dot just because thats the scheduale) Possibily I have no idea what i'm talking about but i really doubt that if you leave a baby to cry for half an hour before feeding them that it'll teach him to go longer between feeds. I reckon as they grow up they just gradually can hold more in their tummies and so need feeding less often

Just had a bit of an emotional moment and ended up crying on the phone to my mum (which I hate doing) because i can't decide what to do about going back to work. So very impressed with those of you who have worked it out already! Problem is i can't go back part time to my old job and i really don't want to leave freddie in a nursey or something full time from 6 months. Both DP and my parents live really far away, so no chance of family helping to look after him. Feel like I should be doing some work cos we really need the money, but don't really want to leave my job (which i really liked) and get some crappy part-time job just for the sake of it. It's so confusing!!! Ummmmm just had a bounty to cheer myself up! Havn't had one of those for AGES! Yummy.
