Evening everyone.
Well we had a bit of progress with weaning dd today - she loved petit filous today Ah well, it was good enough for ds!
Tassis - dd sounds the same re. sitting - still very wobbly. She likes her bumbo, she has her meals in it but sometimes yanks her head back which is funn but I bit scary! no sign of moving really. I think she rolled once. She likes her play gym for about 20 minutes and still goes in her bouncy chair a lot. Also loves her big bro and Milkshake in the mornings

cruisemum1 · 19/03/2007 19:18

hi all, ds sitting well now for 5 - 10 mins in a go! lovely to be able to put a basket of toys infront of him and watch him randomly take them out and drop them! Weaning going well. Been at it since 20 weeks and he loves it. I've been introducing more stuff this - week pasta with melted cheese, roast chicken and squished veggies. Loves it. Oh and of course the steadfast favourite....petit filous (though a far less sugary version made by Sainsbury's). Bye for now

tassis · 19/03/2007 19:19

Hi compo - have you seen the bumbo trays? I was very tempted wish I'd seen them when dd was 4 months but it doesn't seem worth getting one now as she'll no doubt be in the high chair soon! Oh well, something to get for baby number 3!

cruisemum1 · 19/03/2007 19:19

anyone else stsill bf? Having trouble weaning lo from boobs - he seems to lvoe them!!!

tassis · 19/03/2007 19:22

I'm still BFing about 4 times in the day and once about 4am. No plans to stop.

Would quite like dd to learn to take a cup but she's no clue. Anyone got any tips? Cup recommendations?

Myrtle1 · 19/03/2007 19:50

Still bfing at bedtime, breakfast and during the night.
Tassis, we have got a Tommee Tippee standard cup with handles and DS seems to like it - he has water from it. We also bought a trainer bottle to cup but you have to chew/suck v hard to get anything out of it so DS didn't take to it at all. It was also Tommee Tippee.

cruisemum1 · 19/03/2007 19:55

also - ds seems very conspitated. His poos are really hard - sorry if tmi and he seems to really strain to produce anything at all. In fact, sometimes he pushes and grunts etc and nothing! Poor little mite. Any tips?

clairemow · 19/03/2007 21:00

just want to post v. v. quickly so I can find you tomorrow...

Nighty night. C xx

Cruisemum - is he drinking any water with his solids? I guess that might help. Speaking of which is it okay to give them tap water to drink now? On the subject of cups we've got a doidy cup which ds used for ages.

tassis · 19/03/2007 21:34

compo can your LO use the doidy cup?

cruise - dd was v constipated, well hard poos and screaming as she filled her nappy last week (or maybe the week before) and I upped her BF intake for a few days and it seems to have settled down. also was giving her baby rice mixed into the fruit purees I'd made and I cut back on that a bit as reckoned it was bunging her up.

kseaj · 19/03/2007 21:41

Evening all,

Welcome back cruise, good to hear that the sleeping is getting better.

Tassis we are having big problems with the cup, ds will not drink anything from his cup, have been thinking of trying a new one we have an avent one.

Liquid at you being a size 10, have not seen a 10's since i had dd seem to drift in between a 12-14.

Well we have had a crap weekend. We went away to wales with plans to go out for dinner on sunday. Ds1 came down with a sickness bug and was sick all day saturday, i started sunday, dd sunday night and dh is in bed with it now, fingers crossed ds2 will not come down with it.

Ds is 24 weeks on wednesday and doing very well. So far he loves everything i have given him. Sitting well for long periods and adores his big sis which she loves, but keeps asking me if she can have a sister now that she has 2 brothers.

We had a new car 2 weeks ago which iam v. about, we had a megane and it was a struggle with 3 lo's and 3 car seats,dd was sitting in the middle with out her seat, so now we have a zafria so much better.

Well can you believe that are lo's are 6 months, how quick that has gone.

bristols · 20/03/2007 10:09

Compo - Its fine to give tap water once they're six months. My DS has been fine with it. It's so lovely not to have to wait for the kettle to boil and then to cool down again.

DS uses a boots own brand cup which he seems to get on OK with although there are no handles so he finds it difficult to hold. He's doing well with his food and I'm going to start giving him some protein tomorrow. He's sitting up for long periods and is such a happy little thing. We're very lucky.

Have you tried giving some fruit juice to help with the constipation?

compo · 20/03/2007 10:24

Sorry should have said dd doesn't actually use the doidy cup herslef yet, I just hold it for her while she sips. Great news about tap water

Coriander73 · 20/03/2007 15:22

Hello...received a letter from work today telling me that they cannot agree to my request to flexible working Am very upset, actually more angry as I was convinced that this time around they would. However, underterred I am off on Monday to see an employment lawyer to see whether I have a case for discrimination. I don't see that I have much to lose. On the plus side...J ate 10 spoonfuls of pear!!!

tassis · 20/03/2007 19:07

Cori that's rubbish about your work.

I thought it was cooled boiled water until a year... not that L really has it much. Ds was useless with a cup until nearly a year so I'm not massively bothered.

Tried a ratatouie mush thingy for lunch but not a huge hit, probably the tomatoes. Mixed with carrots and potatoes, however, it was polished off!

Need to roast a chicken tomorrow as that's next on our list of things to try!

fairysnuff · 20/03/2007 22:52

HI all been a while since I have posted, you fell off my list!!

DD is onto solids now too, don't know if I said Just purreed veg and fruit. A friend said I ought to bulk it out with baby rice so I have started doing that now too. I have discovered that DD loves sweet potatoes. I have tried her with cauliflower or brocolli and, today, cauliflower cheese and all were rejected....Add some sweet potato and Voila! Gobbles the lot!!
Actually, the combination ended up with some banana in it tonight!! So that was Cauliflower cheese & baby rice no go. Added some sweet potato, not really interested and then I was giving up and giving her a bit of banana when I tried a scoop of that and a scoop of the rest...Crazy baby! Sounds horrid to me!!
I am still BF, but am surprised by DD as she dropped feeds the minute we started solids!
Actually I have just realised we are still on about 5 feeds a day. Is that a lot at this stage? We are only on solids twice a day so far. But, for 2 nights now she has slept through, Yeah! No 4am wake up call!

On sitting I am so proud of her, she sits well for a good length of time and when she is on her front she is beginning to bring her knees up and balance on hands and knees! With air beneath her belly!! OK only my hand width but air all the same!
6 months Where did the time go!?

fairysnuff · 20/03/2007 22:54

Coriander that is V Rubbish about your work!
What do they expect you to do? Abandon your babies?
Hope you manage to get some good news from the lawyer.

clairemow · 21/03/2007 09:40

cori, bad news about your employer... Hope you have luck with the lawyer...

Fairy, you don't need to use baby rice at all if you and LO don't want to. On funny mixtures, after F was ill a couple of weeks ago, he would only eat food with fruit in it, so pear got added to everything... I think broccoli and cauliflower are both quite strong tastes, so try them again in a few weeks, or mixed up with other stuff and you might get a different reaction!

I've read that tap water is fine from 6 months too. Not sure about making up formula. Still boiling all mine, and sterilising, although I think the dishwasher would be ok. Fraser has a boots own cup too, but just chews it at the moment. I remember it took DS1 AGES to learn how to do it though!!

JingleBelle · 21/03/2007 09:46

Cori, sorry to hear about your work. My work also rejected my request to go 4 days per week, but I am hoping that a few months down the line, once they get the new director in (currently team is director-less), I might be able to try again - it's pants isn't it?!
In need of virtual hug, DS has just gone for 3 hour trial with childminder (boo hoo). We were having such a lovely morning and she likes to whisk him away, so no long drawn out goodbyes, which I understand, but I just can't help feeling terrible. What's worse is that he slept through until 5.10am (from 7.10pm last night) and only woke 'cos he was wet through and then after change and bottle went back to 7.10am - am worried he will now think that this is what happens when he sleeps well . Have no idea how I'm going to cope going back to work on 2 April. Just thinking about it makes me sad and feel sick. But will give it a go for a couple of months and if it doesn't work, will have to try to find something part-time, nearer home (journey is 45 mins each way).
Fairy - wow at your DD! On her hands and knees, she sounds very advanced. J is doing the skydiving move with a bit of carpet-swimming and since we pushed his knees up to raise his bum while he was on his front (which incidentally, he finds hilarious), he does try to do that himself too, but no progress as yet - to be honest I'm in no hurry, he'll do it all in his own good time.
Interesting to hear about tap water, I have yet to get DS to take any water, so that is this week's task (without forcing him, of course). Think I am going to have to try with the cup we have got and see if that works with lunch.
By the way Fairy - J is on 5 milk feeds a day at the moment while we introduce solids - although he is bottlefed, but I would guess that if your LO is getting a good feed at these feeds and solids, she is doing fine - I know bf and ff is not comparable though. Congrats on the sleeping through, I hope that comes here soon too. My DS loves sweet potato too. So far has not been keen on butternut squash or parsnip, but gobbled his carrot and swede and much to my disappointment loved the Peaches, Apples and Pears from Annabel Karmel's book - has vanilla pod in it and smells so good I thought I could have that with some natural yoghurt, but he wolfs it down, so I'll keep it all for him for now .
Right, enough waffling - off to have a luxuriously long shower and then tackle some of the tasks and chores I should have done ages ago while DS is away.
Good luck with the employment lawyer Cori.

Myrtle1 · 21/03/2007 20:55

Cori - sorry about your work. They really don't sound very nice. I hope you get somewhere with the lawyer.
Jinglebelle, DS has been going to nursery now, 3 days a week for 2 weeks. I felt very tearful the first few times but he is all smiles now when I drop him off and then we get to spend 4 lovely days together when I'm not at work. We weren't sure about it either but decided to give it a go for a month and then make a decision on whether to find something closer/less hours.
Fairy DS is on 6 daytime feeds (2 breast, 4 bottle)and breast when he wakes in the night. He has 2 solid meals a day too. No sign of dropping any feeds. I would love him to start sleeping though soon.

Coriander73 · 21/03/2007 21:35

Thank you all for your good luck messages.. Will keep you updated...am still so about the whole thing. Anyhow....

Weaning not going terribly well at all. J so far has refused apple, banana, sweet pot & carrot. Has had a tiny amount of pear the past couple of days. It's not even been a week but thought he'd jump at the food offering...so so different to DD who just ate everything straight off (& earlier than 26 weeks). Feel quite down about it...silly really. Do you think that as he's teeting & has a bit of a cold it's interfering somehow with his tastebuds etc? He has dropped his 11pm feed so it's just 4 bottles a day now.

Coriander73 · 21/03/2007 21:39

BTW jingle. I'm due back 2nd april too...could be an interesting day as I'll probably be handing in my notice & / or sending the lawyers in....cabrones!

fairysnuff · 21/03/2007 21:44

Well I never should have said anything about the sleeping through because, of course, she was up again at 4am last night!!
I am expecting the same tonight because she went down one feed sooner than norm. She was exhausted!

I was a little worried that she was not getting enough nutrients, that was why I added the baby rice? But Baby rice won't add nutrient, only bulk, so thats nonsense. I guess I thought it would help her sleep through. (sorry random ramble there!)
Now I have read something about iron and I am worried she is not getting enough of that. It's mainly in meat right? She can't have that yet?
Only cos she took a two hour+ snooze yesterday afternoon, V unlike her!? and the book I had read said to watch for them being lethargic.
I need to stop reading books!!

cruisemum1 · 21/03/2007 21:50

too bloody shattered to read all posts but TASSSIS - you can give tap water after 6 months but still cooled boiled water if mixing with formula (duh...go figure?!!!) Bloody hv's. I'm sure they make it up as they go along!!

Coriander73 · 21/03/2007 21:55

fairysnuff, I believe all the follow on milks are enriched with iron. Other than meat, green vegtables are good. I woudn't read a lot into her long sleep...could be a whole host of reasons: growth spurt most probable.
