Morning, I used to be with Abbey, changed to Halifax coz I found them absolutely useless and it was a real mission to get them to change anything!

Ds is still not eating even though he seems perfectly well - gonna start a thread about it I think.

PhoenixGirl · 27/02/2007 09:26

I'll have an email about the nappies flame

MyNamesNotFLAMEItsRodney · 27/02/2007 11:32

@ everything today.

damewashalot · 27/02/2007 11:47

Flame, and re the nappies. Would agree with your point of view even if didn't know you IYSWIM lots of hugs.

2boysmacca · 27/02/2007 12:12

Just read your mail Flame, I'd be annoyed too. I reckon you're going to get hurdles like this all the time and how you deal with it will obviously influence your business. Stick wih it and keep doing what you are doing. I for one, would buy from someone who was advising me rather than clearly advertising for their own business, even if it meant spending a little extra (a bit like, local butchers v's big supermarket chain). I'm sure there are a fair few like me out there willing to support new businesses. Keep it up and don't let her get you down.

2boysmacca · 27/02/2007 13:12

Have you thought about stocking other things other than nappies? I know when I was using real nappies I used to buy Tushies wipes and disposables for night times. Also all the natural oil stuff for sore bums etc The more you stock in your store, the more people will frequent it.

I know you've worked hard on this site but I really think you need to have a domain name on your own so when you google you are presented with your site. If you really want to make a go of this you've got to bite the bullet. There are grants available to you and also free business advice but it would mean you'd need a business account.

Sorry if I'm interferring

MyNamesNotFLAMEItsRodney · 27/02/2007 13:22

I'm having problems working out what grants are available and how to apply - I have looked at a few sites but they all just seem to tell be about awards and loans... I think I'm doing it wrong

I will have a talk to yzzy (the woman who set me up the store) about the basic paid for package - but nothing can be done until I get some money

I'm scared of taking out loans etc and it all crashing down and losing everything...

MyNamesNotFLAMEItsRodney · 27/02/2007 13:24

I have got various cut 4 cloth clothes getting sorted, and I can talk to kittypickle and see if there is any way of stocking her nappy creams... again a big thing is the time to set it up (the last few days I have been too rough to wokr the store properly )

Chloe55 · 27/02/2007 13:49

Just done such a horrible job but it has needed doing for ages. Our bottle bin has been full of crap that shouldn't be in there for ages - cig ends, sweet wrappers, beer cans etc, I have just cleaned that out. Then I was on a roll, our recycle cardboard bin has also been full of crap from when a friend did some work on the house but he was bloody lazy and threw all the rubble into this bin, I have also cleaned this out Both jobs were disgusting and I have done them both in the rain but now I am feeling all proud and green God I have so many shitty jobs like these to do, need to get off here and do some more really.

2boysmacca · 27/02/2007 14:19

First of all get in touch with your local council. Depending on the area you live, the govt gives out grants of £500.00 for new businesses. You also get given (in certaina reas) free business advice where you meet them they show you how to do p&l etc etc. The only issue is, you have to set up a business account - so you don't just pocket the money. They'll give you all the sdvice of what you need to do, tax etc etc.

Secondly, I seem to remember you are a under 30 so you could also be entitled to something via the Princes Trust - check out their website too.

Unfortunately like motherhood, you don't get time off for sicknes, you've just got to keep going. Easier said than done, but if you really want to make money then unfortunately you gotta work your arse off.

Contact your local papers and get them to write an article on you. Young, entrepreneur, mother of 2. How wonderful nappies are etc etc. Also make sure your local NCT are aware f you and they'll gladly put an article in the local newsletter, they're always looking for articles.

Advertise freely in dd's nursery, even set up a stall or soemthing so mothers can feel how good cloth is.

Enough rambling, gonna watch 30 mins of tv then wake up ds2, go fetch ds1 from nursery then pop to Waitrose to cook something nice for dh's birthday tea

2boysmacca · 27/02/2007 14:19

Chloee fancy coming over here and doing the same with my compost bin?

2boysmacca · 27/02/2007 14:22

Who provides your broadband? Do they give free webhosting? My sister went with Tiscali, it wasn't that much. Like you she's just setting up and didn't want any big overheads.

2boysmacca · 27/02/2007 14:25

Me again. Raise media awareness via this Flame link

CanSleepWeirdShifts · 27/02/2007 15:05

Ear seems ok today, but have splitting sinus headache back again (took decongestant for this before going to zoo yest).

Had hoped that busy day and lack of sleep yest would make dd sleep longer last night, but seems it's just making her sleep longer this afternoon instead - she went off at 12:22 and not a peep out of her since.

Hoping she's happy not doing a lot when she wakes up - too cold and windy to walk to the playground (half hour each way). No playgroup this morning - knew one of them wasn't on this week, but couldn't remember which, but when we turned up (half hour late as we'd been to see h/v first) there were no cars and the curtains were shut, so I guess it was this one!

What does anyone do for entertainment when they have a whole day in with just the Feb babe?

I would be annoyed about nappies too flame - let us know what the powers that be say.

Flamesparrow · 27/02/2007 15:52

Thank you Macca Feeling all inspired now!

Whole day with just feb babe entertainment... give him a ball

Flamesparrow · 27/02/2007 15:53

Thanks for the link too Macca

mustrunmore · 27/02/2007 20:57

yoohoo csws. Go to the meet ups. They're looking for you to confirm the meet in June, one way or the other.

Evening everyone Just off to administer medicine to a sleeping ds1. Might be back later idf I've alreadsy seen the Most Haunted

2boysmacca · 27/02/2007 21:01

Cooeee, anyonea round?

ds1 got his finger trapped in the fire door handle today at nursery. He was sobbing when I picked him up. We had to go shopping and he was so upset, "I want to go home mummy" He soon recovered after half a bag of buttons . I did feel guilty when ds2 was looking longingly at his brother This is only Finn's 2nd bag of buttons to date - his 1st bag was last Easter and me and dh ate them cos I felt he was too young

CanSleepWeirdShifts · 27/02/2007 21:16

Blimey - I'd forgotten all about that/thought it had died a death - how did I miss all the posts this year! Will double check with MrCSWS if/when he logs on later, but reckon I should still be able to make it. that you can't though.

for ds' finger macca. Glad the buttons made it better .

Frizbe · 27/02/2007 21:30

for ds's finger too Macca, glad he's feeling ok now tho, hurrah for choc
Great advice there for Flame as well, I hope your following it all up Flame
Have you created yourself an ebay store for nappies as well? might be worth you looking into??
CSWS, was dd ok when she woke up then? I guess we just tinker about when its just the two of us, not often tho! I normally divide the day up into meals milk, before breakfast play, breakfast 08:30/09:00, small play then nap at 10/10.30, lunch at 12:00-12:30, play with something we haven't that am, or walk to somewhere to get out house (cause I'm rubbish at staying in!) milk at 14:30-15:00, afternoon nap, then tea 17:00/17:30, play then bath or wash/milk/bed. I kinda divvy up play time with song time sometimes, and have also been known to lob in the odd spot of cbeebies for a few mins break too

We went to twistin tots this afternoon and dd2 got happy birthday sung to her, her last week costing £1.00, she's £2.75 next week, argh!

mustrunmore · 27/02/2007 21:38

lol csws; I'd forgotten too!

Ouch for the finger. I remember trapping my finger in the door to an Eygptian museum aged about 7, and screaming the place down (very heavy oak door). Dont recall anything else about that holiday.

well the longest ds2 and me have alone at home together is 1.30 till 3pm a few times a week (once a week we do soft play, once we do groceries). TBH, sometimes he's asleep, or has his lunch if he was asleep before taking ds1 to nursery. He has milk at 2 or 2.30pm. So we dont really have that much time, just to have a faff about with toys or playing chase. although game of the week is shoving anything you can over the side into the bath

CanSleepWeirdShifts · 27/02/2007 21:46

I know that game mrm!

Bah Frizbe - you have it easy with 2 naps and play before breakfast. As soon as I bring dd downstairs in the morning she moans until I serve breakfast. She screams if I dare to put her down instead of holding her whilst I prepare it, which gets bloody wearing after a while. When dh is here and he brings her down, he can usually put her down no problem.

Frizbe · 27/02/2007 21:46

flamehere!

Frizbe · 27/02/2007 21:53

CSWS do you still give her any milk type stuff at all?? I bring dd down and lob in milk 1st, then she's happy to play for a bit until I do breakfast, which used to be at 8, but I've recently dragged it to 8.30/9 for my convienience, it also depends what time dd2 starts pre school, if she's on a nursery day, we drop her then have food, if its a gov paid day then she's in at 9am, so we eat 1st.

Frizbe · 27/02/2007 21:53

MRM dd2 likes that game too just waiting for a few soft cuddlies to start floating....
