Maybe, so hard to tell though isn't it, h df had one a couple of weeks ago, this seems more to do with comfort than feeding really. Unfortunately though dp is happy to do grumpy periods at night I end up lying in bed listening to ds crying as nowhere to go out of hearing range! Plus dp can't tell the difference between windy cry or hungry cry etc, I have found him before desperately trying to wind a hungry baby! Ah well. Glad you like the fluffles!

SachaF · 08/03/2007 15:17

Indith, quite often after putting ds back to bed at 3/4 am and knowing that ds won't need food for say 3 hours i get my sleeping bag, pop in some earplugs and leave dh with ds in the bedroom and go sleep on the sofa. He has strict instructions that ds WILL NOT need feeding before 6.30/7am and not to wake me unless he is ABSOLUTELY SURE it is food he needs - he then learnt how to tell if ds is hungry or just grumpy or windy rather than waking me unneccesarily (sp?). Could this work with your dh?
To help the windy bottom i have been taking an hour over night feeds - feed, wind, gripe water, nappy off, kick legs about, nappy on, feed, wind, settle - also means i know he definately has had enough food as i wake him up if he falls asleep in the middle of that. After 4 weeks of that (and it was hard, but meant i got a better sleep afterwards as did ds) last night i just did 20min feed, gripe water, wind and he was fine for another 2 1/2 hrs when he was hungry again - so nice not to have to be fully awake at that time in mornig!!
As for massage - of my group of 8, 3 of us use washable's!!! And the class is on the edge of one of the largest council estates in the UK. We all use the cheap method of prefols though rather than the pretty nappies
DS started 'woodpeckering' today on my LHS. Last week it was my right - go figure!

Indith · 08/03/2007 15:22

maybe sacha! But actually he has been fussing before 3/4 the past couple of nights. Usually (and I'm going on good nights here not the abd ones) whn he wakes at 4ish for a feed he won't settle in his cot but will settle straight away with me (unless windy but I do nappy off time too it is great). I think by that point he just needs the contact and security as he has been hugless bar feeds since 7.

softymom · 08/03/2007 16:45

DG - so glad you had a better day . Well done! Liked your analogy for a cs - so true. There's nothing wrong with needing extra help when you're recovering from major surgery (I didn't get my head round this the first time round).

So - you cs ladies - do you have a shelf of fat above your scar? I had a small one after the first cs and now it seems double in size . Will it ever go? And yes, I did immediately bin the 'post natal exercise' leaflet that the mw gave me .

Elibean · 08/03/2007 18:38

DG, good to see you...and sorry it got so rough...and glad you had a better day, all in one go (as I missed yesterday) FWIW a lot of what you are going through, I went through with dd1...and I think the combination of hormones crashing, sleep deprivation building up, a rejected feeling boob and an emergency CS would probably be deemed worthy of post traumatic stress counselling in any profession other than motherhood: ie we're entitled to any crappy feelings, and wahtever it takes to sort 'em! Big hugs to you, and hats off for the dummy/more help strategies.

Indith, can relate - have NO idea why dd is now waking up every 1.5-2 hours, having slept 8 hour stretches, and apparently having had a growth spurt two weeks ago. Wind? Early teething pain? Another growth spurt?? Habit??? Where did I put the users guide...

Let me know if you figure your LO out, you never know, might be the same solution!

Had a brilliant day yesterday, as DH had a free day, took dd1 in the morning and dd2 in the afternoon and I got quality time with each in turn...plus all this sunshine...really helped. Now all I need are decent nights and to get my head around using reusable nappies...o god the guilt, am having to give away a bunch of unused newborn ones...

Castles, BP, Jabber, how are you guys?

Elibean · 08/03/2007 18:41

Softymum, 'caesarean overhang' - I heard about it, but after my first had no idea what it meant. Tragically, I now know all too well

All I know is what the OB told me, which is to moisturize the scar daily (eg cocoa or sheay butter) as if it dries it pulls in tighter and the 'shelf' sticks out more...

Indith · 08/03/2007 19:16

users manual...if only!

Just take the plunge for the nappies Eli! They are really not much work at all, make sure you have a mesh bag in your nappy bucket then all you need to do is lift them into the machine before you go to bed and press on. There, don't even have to go outside so even less work than taking the bin out!

accessorizewithbabysick · 08/03/2007 22:01

Overhang is more like continental shelf here and I didn't have a section 2nd time round either! Urrgghh. And sorry if this is TMI but a good advertisement for actually doing your pelvic floors every day - slightly needed to go the other day whilst walking ds2 in his pram, wet my pants as apparently I have no pelvic floor and am in fact 74 and not 37. Soooo embarrassed, and have been doing 50 a day every since. Would love to start running

Eli, don't feel guilty about the nappies, I've only just started with them and ds2's 3 months. I don't have enough to do it full time right now (waiting on exchanges etc) so just whacking them on when I've got some dry. I think every time I use one, that's one less disposable in the landfill. And he does look soooo cute with his fat little padded bottom! Maybe just try a couple a day, if they're just sat there?

Elibean · 08/03/2007 22:22

ok, have sorted thro pile and have 2 or 3 that should fit...will make a gentle start tomorrow: thanks for the encouragement!

lucy5 · 08/03/2007 22:33

Hello all, sorry i haven't been around for a while. Everything here is going well, ds is sleeping and feeding well, so different from dd. He's a right little fatty 7.200kgs now at 14 weeks. He is so strong too!

Devongirl have you tried magnesium and vit b6 supplements, they were miraculous whenIhad mild pnd with dd at about 15 months?

Oh and I still have an open wound on my c-section scar. It is no longer infected but not healing, I suppose I will have to go the doctors soon but I justcan't face going back into hospital at the moment.

Hey everybody, thanks for the support. We're still sick in this house, DD1 has a bad cold and DS has kitchypants.

Welcome kat!

I'm so impressed with everyone who is using reusable diapers... I'm so not using them... and it's not that I don't want to respect the environment, but OMG I cannot imagine any more laundry to be done!!!!! Currently, I am sorry to say that my little brood are environmental carnivores... I am hopeful that upon our return from holiday/wedding I will be able to potty train DS... he tells me when he goes so I'll keep my fingers crossed that he'll do it rather quickly.

I'm sorry to hear about the post c/s shelf... I haven't had a
c/s, but am pleased to report that I have an arse on top of my arse thanks to pregnancy... I'm starting to think it will always be with me.... like an old friend who farts too much in the movies!!!!!!!!

I was on Zoloft for most of 2001 to keep my depression at bay. It wasn't PND, it was more DNP (desperately needing pregnancy) depression. It was marvelous stuff, probably saved my marriage as well as me.... hang in there devongirl, and don't let it get too out of hand, because it's just a bigger hole to climb out of. The gals on this thread have lots of experience with PND and are kind and supportive to those who've posted.

babypowder · 09/03/2007 09:41

Sorry - dropped off the face of the earth for a few days. I promise to catch up with the whole thread soon. But I am glad to hear that I'm not the only one with a post-CS bulge! I reckon I look about 4 months pregnant now. I'm only a few pounds off my pre-preg weight, but they are ALL around my waist

We've finally succumbed to colds and bugs. (Can I take paracetemol when I'm BF? I honestly can't remember?) DD2 is sooo funny as she thrashes around trying to feed and breathe at the same time. DD1 has started getting growing pains behind her knees again, so no one is really getting any sleep round here.

At least DH is home this weekend - so I may even get some time off for the first time in 4 weeks. Hopes aren't high, though. Its an FA Cup weekend, so no doubt I'll be expected to keep DD1 entertained so that he can watch endless footy. Grr.

Must go and cheer myself up.

Indith · 09/03/2007 11:43

AQ- I can sneeze, laugh, cut off when I wee (mostly but I just can't get out of the swimming pool without it going! If anyone sees someon racing out of the pool to hit the showers before you can tell it is not just pool water she is dripping its probably me!

castlesintheair · 09/03/2007 14:24

HV came today and did that depression thing on me and I scored 13 which is borderline apparently. She agrees it's stress. She's so nice and actually qualified (paed nurse) I think I have to get her round a bit more

Thanks for asking btw, Eli The whole business with DS is really getting to me but that is something for another thread.

Athina is 6.05kg (13.5lbs) so just over the 50th at 14 weeks. She's doing great but starting to get a bit cranky again so off to GP later to get her meds sorted out. She's so beautiful. Started to giggle heartily now. She's not a chubster but well covered and very leggy. One day I'll post a picture when I can work out how to download.

Hi Lucy! Ouch, get your scar seen to!

Talking cs bulges etc, I look like a sack of spuds. 3 c/s's and my gut looks like a bin liner full of water. I doubt it will ever be the same again especially as I never get a break from being a mother apart from when I'm asleep and by the time I get them off my hands to do some exercise I shall be 105 and it won't be worth it

satinshoes · 09/03/2007 14:34

i hate to say it but I am the lightest I have been in 3 1/2 years I bought a pair of fabulous jeans on holiday in the States (when dd1 was conceived) and have never been able to wear them - tried them on yesterday and they fit!

SachaF · 09/03/2007 14:41

Planning on putting ds (10 1/2 weeks) in his own room tonight - wish me luck! After him waking me every hour last night, then feeding at 2, then me scarpering off to sofa to escape further hourly wakings I am taking the plunge. Hopefully he will only wake for food as i think i am not helping him when he wakes me earlier!!
However expecting a lack of sleep whilst I am up and down to settle him when he wakes and realises he is on his own- what are other people's experiences?
And I have to go back to full nappy off time at each feed - 1 1/2 hrs of cryng about an hour after his feed last night - me zonked!

Indith · 09/03/2007 15:03

Sacha, I made sure the cot was nice and cosy, had agood cuddle and left him to settle himself to sleep and he was fine when we put him in his own room. He took about an hour to settle at first but me only having to go in to soothe a couple of times. Now he is used to it he goes to sleep very quickly.

SachaF · 09/03/2007 15:20

Cheers Indith, he is already using the cot in our room, I will move it into the other so it should be fairly similar, just he won't have mummy right next to him. Fingers crossed... I shall pop my t-shirt in, and just had a thought, I shall pop a muslin down my top that I can put in there later so the area smells more of me.
However you say yours needs you close from the night feed onwards! I will put the crib back in our room I think as a just in case - not sure he will fit in it though!

margo1974 · 09/03/2007 15:50

Well done Satin, although I am very jealous.

My tummy is still HUGE and I am still wearing maternity jeans and trousers. I don't like those hipster trousers so get high waisted so all my old trousers still don't fit

softymom · 09/03/2007 16:17

didn't realize cs shelf was a known phenomenum . I wonder if celebs get a quick bit of lypo done at the same time.

Still in maternity gear too. Vicar came round yesterday to discuss ds' baptism - I am pushing for as late a date as possible so I won't be wearing the fat pants for it. Assuming the wobbly midriff and shelf do get a bit smaller (sooon - I hope!)

SachaF · 09/03/2007 17:04

SS, Congrats .
Me still in maternity wear as well here, plus the stuff I bought in one size up during early pregnancy (but some of that is a squeeze) and yet I am back to running for the club in events of up to 5 miles (slowly though) - I think I will be a 'larger lady' for a while no matter what exercise I do and in fact want to keep the advised 2.5kg (5 1/2 lbs)on my body for breastfeedng as I actually dropped to below pre pregnancy weight v soon after having ds! Just posting this so some people don't get too disheartened (although I am honestly thrilled for you SS, it must be fantastic!)

satinshoes · 09/03/2007 17:27

thank you everyone. i think the main difference for me has been that i put on a 1 1/4 stone this time and as i have dd1 to contend with i dont get to sit down at all. with dd1 i put on 3 stone which i have only lost now 3 years on - hadnt even lost it before dd2 so i can only think lack of rest during the day has helped
