Eli, DD2 was 10.9 lbs on 24th Jan - a month ago so I guess she's about 13 now? Terrible mother I know but it is such a pfaff getting it done. How much does M weigh?

Gloria, I don't know what I am going to do with the millions of outgrown stuff I've got but I tell you I CANNOT WAIT to get rid of them even though DH thinks we might have another. Ha ha ha ha! I'll just give them to various charity shops or friends I guess. Would be interested to hear of a specific baby place.

Good luck Oonagh. DS had suspected clicky hip at birth (breech/tranny) but was fine when they tested him at 2 weeks. He was a bum shuffler though

castlesintheair · 23/02/2007 12:01

Magnolia, I know I only have 3 but I hope it makes you feel better to know I'm a single mother all week (we only meet in bed in the wee hours). It's hard isn't it? I've been feeling quite stressed recently just thinking about how much responsibility I have. Too much thinking, need to get out more

accessorizewithbabysick · 23/02/2007 12:33

NCT secondhand sale great for getting rid of baby stuff, and make money at same time! We're planning to get a stall at the end of the year if we decide no no.3 (I want one, dp doesn't).
I'm opposite about sleep, ds2 is sleeping through because I put him down at 10ish so I'm loath to put him to bed earlier although I am so longing for an evening. Got to bed at 11.15 last night as it took 2 hours to bath, feed & settle him! But did sleep thru to 6.15.

Elibean · 23/02/2007 13:33

AQ, I'd do same re sleep given the option..dd fast asleep early definitely not helping nights!

Castles, have to confess not a clue re weight...um, something over 12lbs, I suppose. She was last weighed weeks ago though

LFM, forgot to add re prune juice, I used to just soak a couple in boiling water, let it cool, dilute to a v pale brown. She loved it, saves buying big bottles if you don't want to!

Elibean · 23/02/2007 13:37

There are charities for baby clothes, IYSWIM. One for mothers who cant afford any, and I think one for Mums in prison or just out. Am passing all mine to friend who knows loads of Mums who need them...though lots are second or third hand so bit past it!

dd2 is like me, lives in about 3 favourite outfits recycled frequently...

LowFatMilkshake · 23/02/2007 15:47

For getting rid of stuff I first try to sell it on e-bay - to make money to buy more stuff (sort of recycling). Then we have a second hand shop just down the road (2 mons away) and she will buy some stuff depending on what she already has and the season etc. The if I still can't shift it I give it to charity.

DH and I just bought a Babydan Playpen in the second hand shop, it was £37.50. I went on pricerunner ad the cheapest they had it for was £99.50!! It looks brand new except no packing.

If I've have shocked anyone with getting this it is purley because we are open plan and I wont be able to contain DS in any area without it, as unlike with DD he has a big sister who will no doubt for get and unblock the lttle gaps I blocked for her when she as a baby! Also DD has loads of small plastic toys which can be easily swallowed.

LowFatMilkshake · 23/02/2007 15:48

Sorry meant to say - Eli, thats what I've actually done as nowhere in town sells the bottled stuff. And I get to have stewed prunes and custard yum

accessorizewithbabysick · 23/02/2007 16:22

I think I'll still have to take the plunge at some point tho Elibean as it's taking me ages to put 2 children in the bath & bed every night. An hour for ds1, then nearly 2 hours sometimes for ds2. I didn't make it to bed until after 11 last night, and asked dp to clean up the kitchen, which apparently consists of piling plates on the worktop & leaving it all for me in the morning!
I'm just going to ban late afternoon naps for ds2, I think, but as he seems not inclined to have a nap at all today (I don't think he's that well) shouldn't be a problem.

weirdbird · 23/02/2007 20:11

Castles and everyone else looking for baby specific places to take untwanted things, there are some in Surrey/Middlesex for Shooting Stars which is a childrens hospice, they have various charity shops around which just sell baby & childrens things, which is where i always take ours.

satinshoes · 23/02/2007 20:52

aaargh , my newfound optimism this morning has all gone

accessorizewithbabysick · 23/02/2007 21:49

Sounds like a spurt to me, my ds (who is 11 weeks also) is doing just about the same thing. 48 hours, it will be over Satin!! Luckily I'd started stockpiling ebm last week. But I lost it with ds1 today as it was so impossible to do anything & he argued the toss on everything all day. Need to take him out tomorrow on his own (1st time since ds2 born) to make up for it, I feel like a sh*t mother today. Hope the spurt is over by then. Hope yours is over shortly too!

LowFatMilkshake · 23/02/2007 22:01

AQ, gald we're notthe only ones getting the brunt from the older sibling!

Caught DD stroking DS head with her foot this afternoon! Explained she can only touch him with hands and face!

She then walked past his chair and accidentally clipped it with her foot, so iasked her to be careful - big mistake, reaalising I was watching this she then proceeded to kick the chair by his feet , when I picked her up and put her away from him she walked back and kicked it behind his head

Even DH, who is tns better and more patient with her than me - sortof a daddies girl thing lost his rag with her tonight, over a piece of sausage of all things.

However we were all made up by bedtime and as DS was asleep, joined her in her room for a tea party with her fairies

Olihan · 23/02/2007 22:27

Ooh, another evening without cluster feeding! I actually put him in his grobag and cot tonight, at 7:30, might as well start a bedtime routine while he's willing . I've been practising my knitting for my Mile for Maude blanket square. The floor desperately needs mopping but I don't want to waste my second free evening in 8 weeks on housework [lazy cow emoticon!]

DD has been showing her own particular brand of affection to ds2 today. She was sat next to him in the tesco trolley, I turned round and she's got her finger right down his throat so the poor mite is gagging, then she poked him in the eye and finally headbutted him when trying to cuddle him!! Poor ds2.

Her newest trick is showing off her new word for this week, which is 'boo boob'. Unfortunately it also involves pulling my top down and pointing to demonstrate what boo boobs are . Not good in the middle of Tesco!

Had my coil put in today so no more babies for me for 10 years, much to dh's relief! I think he also hopes he might get some action too but sleep deprivation and leaky boobs are putting me right off.

Hi Debbsy, can't remember if I've said it already but don't want to be rude.

OonaghBhuna · 23/02/2007 22:37

Well last night was definately the calm before the storm! DD2 had her first injections today one in each leg. She was a star we had to wait two hours due to chaos and disorganisation and only one health visitor doing everything. She was very settled as we were waiting. However this afternoon I had to go to the hospital for her ultrasound scan. The receptionist wasnt interested when I checked in on arrival and after 1.5hrs of waiting I discovered that Dd2 wasnt on their list and no form had been sent to them OMG DD2 had been howling for most of this time aswell. I eventually found somewhere quiet to BF as I really didnt want to get my boob out in the waiting area. Luckily they did scan her we were the last people to be scanned. it looks like everything is ok, thank goodness but the results will be confirmed by the consultant next week. DD2 has been really unsettled since we got home and has spent most of the night squawking

OonaghBhuna · 23/02/2007 22:42

Oh yes since a few of you have been talking about funny words. A few weeks ago we visited my DH Father. He is quite old in his eighties, very religious and was very strict with my DH and his brothers. As soon as we sat down for tea my DD1 was sitting on my lap grabbed my left boob and started saying BOOBIES, BOOBIES, BOOBIES!!! It was hilarious but I was also really embarrassed

Olihan · 23/02/2007 22:44

Oonagh, they know just the moment to choose, don't they?!

Runninglate · 23/02/2007 22:45

I can't believe it - after panicking that my now 9 week old DD wouldn't settle unless we were in the room too, this is now the 2nd night where she's been in bed since 7pm!! I now feel really crap as we've obviously been keeping her up far too long (weeks), not realising that she was ready. Oh dear.

satinshoes · 24/02/2007 09:04

oh wow! after lots of feding yesterday DD just slept from 10.15pm to 5.15am. Looks the stockpiling last night worked a treat. She was also IN HER OWN ROOM Admittedly it was in the moses basket in her cot but a good start!

woohoo!

LowFatMilkshake · 24/02/2007 09:10

Morning - Well DS has decided he actually likes an early morning feed after all, so after lulling me in to a good nights sleep pattern I am now back to geting up at 4am - but I appreciate it could be worse and 6 hours in a row is still good going - I just love my bed

Eli - no sign of constipation yet, although DS is now producing his own lurid yellow playdhough

Oli - me and the DC's will be walking a mile for Maude. And all the MK MN's are currently dithering about meeting each other and worse.....recognising each other.

Tonights the night he goes into his cot and ! As long as we manange to get a monitor at some point today. Looked on boots and Mothercare websites, and the one we tried to buy last week is not listed, instead there's a digital one that £100! The one we were supposed to buy was half that!!!

Gloria42 · 24/02/2007 11:20

Re the prune juice for constipation, how old are your LOs?
My DS is 8 weeks but only poos every 2nd day. HV and DR don't seem worried about this as he has loads of wet nappies each day. This doesn't seem to bother DS at all, but sometimes he goes as long as 3 days and I can tell his tummy is hurting.
Am still bf but with 1 formula bottle per day, could this be the cause??

Gloria42 · 24/02/2007 11:25

For those of you using prune juice for constipation, how old are your LOs??

DS only poos every 2-3 days (but it's MEGA when it arrives) HV and DR not concerned by this, and DS doesn't seem irritated except for the day he poos. But it doesn't seem right to me. What do you think?

I'm BF but with 1 formula bottle a day, could this be the cause?

Gloria42 · 24/02/2007 11:31

Apologies for multiple post

My connection seemed to crash after the first one so i put it in again!!!!!!

Indith · 24/02/2007 12:23

Hello!

Gloria- I think the poo thing is normal though I know what you mean about them being a bit bothered if not gone for a while. Ds kind of screws his face up, grizzles and lets fly then visibly relaxes. Bless them.

AQ- That nipple seeking climbing thing is amazing, though he did seem to end up shoving his head into the crook of my neck a few times. He also tried to latch onto my mum when she took him in the wee small hours to let me sleep....bit disappointed there!

Ds goes down so well in the evenings now, bath at 6, nice long feed and asleep around 7. He then waks around 9.30/10 for a feed and takes a fair while to go down again and the proper night wakings are terrible he just refuses to settle again (and since he still feeds very 2 hours he clocks up a lot of awake time!) Today he was pretty much awake 2.30 til 5.30 and only settled when I gave up and took him to bed with me. Maybe tonight I'll try getting to him before he wakes properly at 9.30, see if that makes a difference (to that feed at least)

Oh well, I have my evenings back. Grateful for small mercies!

Elibean · 24/02/2007 12:50

Oooo how on earth to pack for four for the weekend, feed dd2, clear up two sets of vomit, and not forget something crucial?!?

Why, you may ask, am I on Mnet when I should be doing something useful...

Answer, I'm expressing. dd2 seems to have got more and more used to EBM and less keen on the hard work boob requires and will only feed from source at night suppose the week in hospital followed by weeks of struggle to feed lying down have taken their toll. Still, gives me good excuse to get online four times a day..

Poo and prunes: Gloria, if he seems happy I wouldn't bother, honestly....but if he doesn't, I gave veyr very small amounts of dilute juice (then stood back to see results) to dd1 aged about six weeks old. Start teeny and see if its enough, better than the other way around.

Sorry to run, not had time to read much either - my excuse just ran out, bottle full

LowFatMilkshake · 24/02/2007 17:25

Re prune juice, my mw told me I cod do this from quite early on with DD, as it;s really watered down - she alos said freshly squeezed OJ! However I read somewhere - possibly here that it's normal for babys and children not to go daily.

Well I have just been setting up DS cot ready for tonight, ripped bag off new matress out in cot....2" short at the top and 1" short at the side . Phoned John Lewis and asked them what I can do, told them that shop assistant converted the inch measurement we gave her into cm's so we took her word as pressumed she did it all the time. I am now waiting for them to phone me back to see if they will take a return in the shop and give us a refund....NOT IMPRESSED!

Have sent DH to Mamas and Papas to get the proper matress from the manufacturer - should have done this last week, but was at John Lewis and they sold us the cot after all! Grrr

And we have had to shell out £100 on a sensor pa monitor as the one we managed not to buy last wek was end of line - so we have just spent £50 more than we needed there as well - for the first time in my life I hate shopping!

However see chat thread for a good thing from todays shooping trip!
