hi everyone.

DD2 hasbeen snorting and snuffling all week and now has a cough so keeps bringing her milk up.

On a positive note she lept 10.30 until 5am last night. Cant quite believe it although she barely slept yesterday as seem to hve a development high and has startedbeing much more aware of everything. We got a playnest and she loves sitting in it

Milkshake - hope your DD is better today.

I'm a bit lost on the thread but hoe everyone is ok.

castlesintheair · 19/02/2007 10:01

I got my chuffing period too Lucy! What's all that rubbish about the pain easing post pregnancies and not meant to get them 'til you stop bf-ing ??

My DD2 seems to be "awake" alot more during the day. For a while now she's been making noises to get my attention. She loves being looked at ... but then she is very beautiful ...

Half-term today and we have a big squad of DS's rowdy mates round "The Mortlake Massive" as DH likes to call them Wish me luck!

Oli/Eli, thanks for asking about DS. Yes he has an IEP but hopefully they will tailor it a bit more towards language now & he'll (one day) get 1:1 in class with a proper therapist. We live in hope. Sadly it looks like most things have to happen privately.

magnolia1 · 19/02/2007 10:03

Omg I don't remember any of my girls being this hard as a baby

Ds1 has reverted back to acting like a newborn and I am sooooo tired. He took some milk from Dh yesterday so I could have a break but an hour later wanted me!!!!
Dh has man flu!!! dd4 (age 3) has been poorly for a week and now her athsma is really bad

I have a coldsore the size of a thumbnail and dd1 (age 11) is so hormonal I feel like I am living witth me

Going to ring the osteopaths now to try and see if it helps ds1.

Sorry for ranting although it sounds like we are all having a pretty rough time of it at the moment.

castlesintheair · 19/02/2007 10:05

Poor you Magnolia Is DS having a growth spurt? Did you get him on ranitadine? It really helped both my DDs.

magnolia1 · 19/02/2007 10:44

Well, I made an appt for the cranial osteopath in north london (we are in surrey) hey do a subsidised clinic for babies/children. I didn't really want to go that far so rang a local clinic and explained ben. She went to talk to the osteopath and he is going to treat Ben for £10 a session I am so pleased Hope it works!!

Castles: I am going to phone the gp again today and see if we can get the meds changed.

babypowder · 19/02/2007 11:47

I've had the ILs here for the whole weekend. They are lovely people, but both in their mid 70s so are as demanding as LOs, frankly And they eat us out of hosue and home But I'm just so grateful to have nice, kind, thoughtful ILs that I really don't care. Although if anyone could explain to me why my DH (age 48)seems to revert to being a spotty 16 YO when they're around, I would appreciate it ...

Does anyone know if cranial osteopathy works on older children? I knew nothing about this when DD1 was born, and now having DD2 I realise that she (DD1) had a difficult time of it. She possetted and vomited a LOT, but I thought that was what LOs did. DD2 does none of that. DD1 is now 4.6 and has very little appetite, which I'm sure is linked to her earlier years.

Also, does anyone know of any COs in north-east scotland?

And (what a long post this is)why do babies suddenly decide to poo every hour on the hour jsut when you're catching up with the nappy wash that should have been done yesterday and all you have left toput on them is muslins????? Little madam

SachaF · 19/02/2007 13:03

Any one got any hints on how to deal with the windy bottom situation between 3 and 7 in the morning? At the mo we are putting dummy in to give him something to chew, and then I am running away at 5 to get a couple of hours on the sofa and leave dh with ds - not so fair when he then has to get up for work! Ds is getting back to sleep in between bouts but we aren't!!
Wouldn't be too much of a prob if I had had solid sleep between feeds but he has been starting to fuss about an hour before a feed at night....
(and yes, the 11 - 4.20 between feeds didn't repeat itself last night!)

accessorizewithbabysick · 19/02/2007 13:23

LFM, just catching up but v.sorry to hear of ds ending up in hospital. I can't imagine how scared you were when he turned blue, I hope things only get better from here

Sacha, if you want to try and get the wind out of him, you could try lying him on his back, cycling his legs & then pushing them up to his chest - does the trick with ds2 a treat. A dummy can make wind worse, but sometimes there's no option when you need some sleep!

My lo asleep so best get cooking!

Olihan · 19/02/2007 13:44

Must have been something in the air this weekend. Had a horrific day yesterday, ds2 just cried ALL day. Wouldn't feed, wouldn't sleep, just cried. Finally cracked at 6pm and gave him 2.5 mls of Calpol.......within 10 mins he was back to normal, had a good feed then his usual cluster session and slept from 11pm until 3.30. Now feel guilty that he was obviously feeling rotten all day! I'm also paranoid about what he's done to my supply, the next couple of days could be fun.

Castles, unfortunately I think you're right, you will have to go private to get the best help for ds. There just isn't the funding, even with a statement.

LFM, hope this week is a bit better than last!

Don't know of any hints for the windy early hours. I'm co sleeping so ds2 just gets a boob in his mouth if he starts shuffling . He also seems to be a bit of a self-winding baby, he just pulls off, burps and goes back on with no sitting up/back rubbing etc required, it's very odd.

Magnolia, great news about the CO, let us know if it works.

Indith · 19/02/2007 13:52

Well last night was interesting!

After the bad night before he didn't sleep at all during the day so by the afternoon he was so grumpy and had huge bags under his eyes but wouln't sleep. By the wee small hours I was in tears telling the baby to shut the f* up and threatening to shove his dummy down his little throat. Dp sent me to bed and thankfully by the next feed ds had decided sleep was`the answer to his problems and i managed to put him down without resorting to violent threats.

Sleep deprivation anyone?

Still he has napped today though is very clingy and won't be put down (we had been making so much progress on that front) so hope will at least go down ok tonight.

cycling legs does nothing for his wind but I'm getting a bit concerned as while he used to just be a sicky baby who didn't care he has started getting very fussy after feeds and can be quite distressed in the evenings.

BP- your dh is a man, he can't help it. As for the poo, sods law I think. Or maybe she finds some twisted sense of fun in annoying you.

Indith · 19/02/2007 13:55

AQ- In Hull from tom. e mail if you fancy a coffee. Indith_underfireatyahoodotcodotuk

Indith · 19/02/2007 13:56

I want a self winding baby Oli!

I have a 2.15 lecture. I should probably get ds suited up and go to it should I.

Olihan · 19/02/2007 14:13

Indith, I went down the really productive, swearing and shouting at ds2 route yesterday too. Feel so bad about it now but at the time just couldn't cope with not being able to do anything for him, whatever I tried just made him worse . It's horrible, especially when it's so out of character for him. I ought to cope better because he's so calm usually but I don't seem to be able to.

magnolia1 · 19/02/2007 14:29

Have been down the swearing/threatening/general moaning at baby too

We found infacol works quite well but ds1 gets pretty bad when a poo is building up. We have about an hour of screaming until finally he has an exploding nappy and is ok till the next one

accessorizewithbabysick · 19/02/2007 15:00

Indith, thanks for reminding me, just emailed you...
I'm also guilty of yelling at a small baby, how bad do you feel afterwards ? But it just gets too much sometimes. I've noticed my lo has got worse in the evenings lately after a couple of fairly calm weeks. I've given up trying to get him to sleep before 10, it's clearly the worst time for them so I'll wait until he's 3 months & try again. I can live with the 10.30pm - 6am sleeping, I think DS1 of course, is waking in the night even if ds2 doesn't, little s*d.
Magnolia, hope your week gets better soon
Castles, did you get the dizzy spells sorted at all? Are you still bfing or given it the heave-ho?

babypowder · 19/02/2007 15:27

Oh, heck, I've just bought 4lbs of seville oranges, thus committing myself to a day of marmalade making. Why do I do this to myself??? Like having 2 children, a husband, a tip of a house and working part time isn't enough, I have to add stress to my life.

Silly, silly woman

Olihan · 19/02/2007 16:07

@ babypowder. You don't do things by halves, do you?

AQ, my ds1 and dd are going through an awful sleeping spell. DH deals with them when he's here but he's startig to o away with work more often again. I can't remember the last time they both slept though, it's getting ridiculous now, they both used to be such good sleepers too. Ah well, sleep is for the weak and all that. Who needs to be compus mentis anyway?!

LowFatMilkshake · 19/02/2007 16:30

I was a baby shouter in the first few weeks, but since he settled I am better now. But you feel so wretched after doing it, I used to crumple into a sobbing heap saying sorry sorry sorry

On the windy bottom front I noticed DS improved after we stopped giving infacol.

Castles - I used to live in Mortlake when I was a toddler! We lived over my Grandad's shop, opposite a playpark by the station, just down from the brewery - probably all gone now!

DD went to pre-school as she seemed back to 'normal'. I bought her some lucosdae - and up it came agin

Have now sought medical advice from GP who wants an update tomorrow if still fluids and dry food dont work!

DS slowly improving. The humidifier helps massively at night and last night he slept from 8pm - 6.30am, I jsut did his last feed while he slept at 10.30pm . Bottles now up to 5oz.

castlesintheair · 19/02/2007 17:27

LFM, I was standing outside mortlake station only on saturday looking at the playground and thinking how nice it looked. Small world eh? What was your Granddad's shop called?

AQ, I still have the headaches/dizzy spells, thanks for asking. Am still persevering with bf'ing though especially after GP told me to give up if I wanted it to stop. I do have a stubborn streak when I want. I'm pleased it's got easier for you, apart from windy evenings

I've found the best wind solution to be lying DD2 down on her back oddly enough. She yells for about half a minute then seems ok. Sometimes I think they get fed up with all the man-handling.

Just spent an hour clearing up some of the mess after the whirl-wind of young boys. Wow, sometimes I think mine are a handful ...

LowFatMilkshake · 19/02/2007 19:27

Castles - dont remeber, it was a long time ago (must ask my aunts) - about 27 years that we moved from there. I think it was torn down anyway to make flats or old persons home, I know it suffered terrible damp and my parents had to put a huge travel trunk under the window to cover a whole in the brickwork - talk about how we used to live! The actual shop closed before I was born due to competion from supermarkets. so dad and grandad turned the shop area into my playroom. I had swings bolted to the floor and everthing! I remember playing at the park though. And a Chemist futher up the road called Mulhollands! He was a friend of my parents

Indith · 19/02/2007 20:10

Ok hands up who gave my baby a red bull?

He has been in his cot for 2hrs15 and is still wide awake. Happy though.......

Indith · 19/02/2007 21:17

Still awake. REally thought I had him after his last feed

LowFatMilkshake · 19/02/2007 21:29

Lol Indith

Mine was v.well behaved last night, dropping off in moses basket downstairs at 8 and letting me feed him in his sleep - so no panicy winding. Then slept through til 6.30am.

Tonight however he just wants to be cuddled, so daddy has him.

Tomorrow he can repeat yesterdays behaviour as Daddy is going out and mummy is going to have quality time with her DVD collection!

And I've got another flippin cold I have'nt been anywhere to get it. I was just having the last on my cough and here comes the sneezes again. I am begining to wonder if everyone in the house will ever be germ free again.

OonaghBhuna · 19/02/2007 22:14

I have had a day from hell dd2 has howled all day she has only settled unless sucking from my boob. Most food she has taken has just been puked up again.dd1 has been grumpy towards me all day because she hasnt been getting much attention from me, which makes me feel guilty.
Its now 1opm she has finally gone to sleep so I am going to bed dh is doing the next feed as it will be formula which will hopefully knock her out. Last week i thought she was settling.....She will be 8 weeks on wed so hopefully it wont be too much longer, I dont think I have any energy left...
