Jabber, phew - live in dread of nits, threadworms or scabies: so far so good, though had tw paranoia when dd started nursery (and I was pregnant and mad and hormonal ). You really don't need scabies to deal with with a young baby around, am glad it wasn't.

LFM...crikey, blood? dd has stridor (due to the larynx) at times, and worse with a cold/on her back/when panicking or crying. Also under ENT department, who started her on the reflux meds automatically when diagnosed with floppy larynx - is your ds on them? It really helps with the feeding, she's much calmer now (though still windy as Norfolk coast on a bad day).

castlesintheair · 16/02/2007 09:57

Poor LFM family, sound's very scary. I hope the wobbly larynx rights itself soon. Presume this is what happens? Like the immature valve that causes gastric reflux?

Thanks Eli DS's dx is a positive thing because we can get on with getting help in school ... one day. Effing statement process takes 24 weeks! We knew what it was (language disorder) just needed it in writing IYKWIM. Still feel drained though

Gloria No, you can't damage your LO's bits & bobs in the car seat. You do feel like you are causing them serious injury but as my DH says "it (seatbelt) can never be tight enough"

LowFatMilkshake · 16/02/2007 13:57

Eli, I asked my GP for reflux medicine and he said not unless the vomitting got worse. However we have our first appointment with ENT in about a month and I will put the question to them. At the moment he;s having a right old time of tryig to cough up the gunk on his chest. We have to bang his back quite hard to help, and then when he does bring it up we have to be quick or he swallows it (bleugh)

We had scabies in our house when I was a little girl, mum had a lodger to help with money and she was filthy, she had her boyfreind over sometimes and he was vile as well. Mum had the whole house fumigated when they left and spent about a week scrubbing every room with disinfectant!

All this talk of infectious things makes me think I dont actually want to send DD back to pre-school next week. BTW I handed in my notice to the committee.

Indith · 16/02/2007 18:42

you lot seen the Verbaudet thread? Not just th ready beds.

0903 gets you £10 off anything
0837 gets £5 and P&P off

I just got a dungarees, t shirts and a cardi. postage on the dungarees, t shirts totally free and 19p for cardi! Just used 3 different e mails and names (me, mum, dp).

Elibean · 16/02/2007 22:17

Castles, thats what my friend said - statementing a nightmare, but worth it in the end

LFM, thats pretty much what happened with us - I badgered the GP for Ranitidine (Gaviscon wasn't helping, she never vomitted much in the first place) and GP almost managed to make me feel I was nuts to be wanting to give my baby meds 'unnecessarily' .

Our ENT apt was brought forward when Mischa ended up in hospital with her last cold (in case it was bronchiolitis again, just to be safe) and guess what: the bloke never even ASKED about vomiting or pain, he prescribed Ranitidine and Domperidone automatically because (and I quote) 80% of all babies with Laryngomalacia (floppy larynx) have reflux. He also said that one of the reasons for treating these babies for reflux was that reflux makes their breathing worse: the acid can go up out of the stomach and get inhaled, or just cause inflammation that makes the whole narrowed airway thing worse.

TBH, I sometimes wonder if dd would have been hospitalized that time at all, if the GP had given her the Ranitidine when I asked...

Anyway, you can probably tell I'm still more than bit pissed off with GPs on this one! But if you feel your ds would benefit from reflux meds, don't hesitate to push for your ENT apt to be brought forward...wish I had!

LowFatMilkshake · 16/02/2007 22:21

Thanks Eli - I think I will do that.

DS has started a new one tonight and is now bringing up water when he's only had formula!

Olihan · 16/02/2007 22:25

Blimey, I miss 3 days and lose track totally!!

LFM, hope ds is okay and you and dh are recovering, from the shock more than the gastric flu I imagine.

Had my mum here for 3 days which was a lot easier than I was expecting. She can be more work than the kids but this time it was okay.

DS2 is okay, weight is only creeping up though, 2 oz this week . I'm veering between being stressed about it and thinking that he's actually fine. MIL said dh was a really slow gainer too - once he only put on half an ounce in a month so ds2 is pretty good compared to that! Both of us were very skinny toddlers and kids (not that you'd guess seeing us now) so I suspect it's genetic.

Castles, glad you got the dx and are on the way to getting a statement. Has he got an IEP at the moment? Hopefully with a dx the school can make his support a bit more specific until his statement hours are decided.

Pre school lurgies.........eek! We've been far too lucky so far.I'm dreading my first outbreak of something awful.

Olihan · 17/02/2007 19:22

Where is everyone? Have I missed a new thread starting or have you all

Indith · 17/02/2007 19:35

They must have lives....
Mine is currently revolving around my laptop and sporadic trips to the nursery to pop a dummy back in or crank up a mobile. Put him down at 6.50, still not asleep. Last night put him down at 8 and it took til 9

Still at last he does eventually settle himself and there are no tears involved. Just hoping that at som point I'll hit optimum bed time or he'll get used to it.

Little devil was up between 3 and 5.30 this morning. Made up for it by going back down after his 7am feed until 9.30 and dp brought me breakfast in bed at 9! I love that man!

Olihan · 17/02/2007 20:22

Aww, what a lovely dp, Indith [soppy ]! I'm just sitting on the couch doing the usual feed fest! The highlight of my Saturday has been a 3 year old's b'day party. It's a sad but true fact that ds1 has a more active social life than me .

margo1974 · 17/02/2007 21:31

I am spending my time potty training DD1!!

But haven't forgotten you all. Will post properly soon.

LowFatMilkshake · 17/02/2007 22:01

DD finally got the sickness bug from 5pm to 9pm she has been throwing up. Last time it was just stomach acid, so hopefully there's no more. Poor mite. She's been carried up to bed and DH and I are enjoying some peace. DS has finally dozed off after keeping DD company by chucking up a good couple of ounces after a coughing fit

It got to the point where DH and I just sat and literally laughed at the situation -what else could we do. Poor DD it's only the 4th time in her whole life that she has been sick!

However earlier we did manage a trip to the shops and bought a humidifier (hopefully less snuffles tonight). A movement monitor for the cot, and ordered a new matress. Also ordered a cot wedge off ebay so by next weekend DS will be in his own room. Good job too as he only has about an inch left in the moses basket .

Not quite 10 weeks old and already in 3-6 vests and sleepsuits!

Indith at breakfast in bed, but cant complain about DH he's been a star tonight!

Oh and we finally had some "grown-up time" last night - but so much for throwing caution to the wind, DH chickened out until I've had my cycle and we know where we are ovulation wise

weirdbird · 17/02/2007 23:17

LFM - We had to dig out the 3-6 mths clothes as well last weekend and DD2 is only just 6 weeks!

Some of the clothes we where given still have the tags on...

LowFatMilkshake · 17/02/2007 23:20

WB - WOW

SachaF · 18/02/2007 08:48

WB, at least as you haven't gone mad and ripped all the tags of when you bought stuff you can take it back and exchange for a bigger size

Strangely mine (8 weeks) is in a newborn sleepsuit today but is stretching some of the 0-3 vests - just like ladies clothing, size depends on the brand!

He slept from 11.30 until 4.20 solid! yippee! however i didn't.... fingers crossed this happens again, now, how do i get him to go to sleep QUIETLY from 5am till 7ish to get me those few precious extra hours... - I guess the quietest way would be to put him in his own room with no monitor - but I can't bring myself to do that yet.

Indith · 18/02/2007 11:13

Why are babies such inconsistent little things?

Ok don't answr that, they are babies, I know!

When ds sleeps well he does it beautifully, feeds twice between 10/10.30 and 7/8 and we don't hear a peep out of him otherwise. Othertimes he reverts back to feeding every 1.5/2hrs or he does what he did last night and turns into a little monster. All started so well, put him in his cot at 7, he dropped off at 8 (am hoping that one of these days it will take him less than an hour to go to sleep), fed at 10 and we were all asleep by half past with me hoping to get a 3 hour stretch at least since he had fed really well.

Nope the little thing wakes up at 12.45 and so begins a sleepless night.

Think wind has a lot to do with it though, seems to hit him around 3am and he spends the next few hours grunting and straining while pumping away.

Ah well, MIL due around now, here's hoping she can be persuaded to take him out for a walk so we can nap. She doesn't really do little babies though.

Elibean · 18/02/2007 15:49

A Life?!

LFM, sorry to hear dd is sick too..hope she's better fast. How is ds's chest today? Cot monitor sounds like a good idea, anything for peace of mind - wish I'd thought of that weeks ago!

Oli, my bet is your LO is doing fine...have lost count of number of friends' who've been worried by HVs about their babies' weights and have ended up with beautiful toddlers Those darn red books and graphs: not sure how helpful they really are

Too small clothes here too - dh put a Petit Bateau 6 month body on dd yesterday, by mistake: it fit almost perfectly

Elibean · 18/02/2007 15:50

Lor, she's hungry again - just time to say, Indith, can relate: esp to wind in wee hours. She sleeps best till about 3am, then its wriggling and grunting till dawn...

margo1974 · 18/02/2007 16:24

i have had a few day this week where I haven't had to top her up with formula, it's been great

Runninglate · 18/02/2007 17:20

Ah yes - the red book. Those graphs are only meant to panic us and they are based on formula fed babies, which just creates extra stress for those that are breast fed!

My DD is in 3-6 month stuff now too and won't be in that for too long. I suspect it's because I have shrunk everything in our tumble dryer . I have to return a lot of clothes to a friend who is now pregnant again and I havee a horrid feeling that none of the clothes will fit her newborn . oh dear

satinshoes · 18/02/2007 17:45

my DD is just moving into the 0-3 clothes now

LowFatMilkshake · 18/02/2007 21:41

Hi All,

Thanks for asking Eli, DD was sick at midnight then seemed great this morning. She refused food, but accepted haribo bears that DH bought her at the papershop. I also asked him to get some coke to help her feel better - he got pepsi max men never listen!

Anyway she had some at 11 and it came back up about 1.30. She then refused all food and rink until teatime when she asked for noodles. I gave her a very very small amount - if for no other reason than to limit how much mess would be made if they came back. That was 5pm, she's been in bed two and a half hours now and so far so good. If all stays down she's bacl to pre-school tomorrow.

DS chesty cough is getting to him, so I am hoping to get him to the docor. Although he is shifting the gunk on his chest it's really distresing for him to cough so hard . And it makes him bring loads of milk back - which is reducing time between feeds, which we are trying so hard to re-establish as 4 hourly. we've just upped the bottle to 5 oz's as regularly taking 4 now.

Eli I am going to push him for reflux meds as you suggested and ask about a nebulizer as suggested by someone in the hospital.

Runninglate · 18/02/2007 21:47

For all those whos LOs are suffering from reflux......I took my DD to the cranial osteopath and it has all stopped

LowFatMilkshake · 18/02/2007 21:49

Oh and on the moitor front...bought one in Boots, picked up one at front of shelf but it had gunk on the box, so took the one behind it. Paid for it, bought it home - is a moniter with temp gauge thing not a matress monitor Packaging is so bl**dy similar - I am not pleased . And it was still fifty quid for a monitor with built in thermometer At least we have a little Boots in town who will accept a the return. And a friend of a friend is now lending us her Angel Care either to trial or to use until no longer needed which ever we prefer .

jabberwocky · 19/02/2007 01:51

Just a quick one, we've had relatives in all weekend. It's been nice actually. They stayed at my parents house and visited us for a bit. Otherwise I could come and go as I wanted/needed to.

Hope your dd and ds are better soon, Baileys.
