it perks your boob up so your nipple isn't facing downwards and increases visibility

OonaghBhuna · 12/02/2007 21:46

Hello, dd2 is nearly 7 weeks tonight must be te first night that she hasnt howled for hours, could it be that things are getting better or I wonder is she coming down with a cold...She has colick and it is a relief reading all the posts that I am not the only one although I wouldnt wish this upon anyone. Have stayed with the Bf although my dh has been giving her a formula feed at midnight so I can get a few hours rest.
We give Dd2 colief which seems to help a little I suppose.
Am slowly getting used to having two and have ventured out to a few mothers and toddler groups, it is a bit stressful trying to get out in the morning and I am finally learning to be more organised

babypowder · 12/02/2007 22:11

Elibean, so glad that M is holding her own in the face of bugs. Long may it last.

Gosh, I did sound a little needy earlier . Just one of them days! My mum (who is in her 70s now) says that she didn't feel like a grown up until I (her eldest) had children of my own. Hope I don't have to wait that long!

margo1974 · 12/02/2007 22:21

Hiya Oonagh,

Colic is terrible - DD1 had it, thankfully DD2 didn't. The only upside was, once she was over it, I could see what a wonderful child she was. It was like seeing sunshine after a bad storm. iykwim.

Organised? I am still working at that

northernfrozenmama · 13/02/2007 06:04

Hang in there AQ! You are amazing!

Eli - glad to hear that Mischa is holding her own today... wiil keep all my stuff crossed for you that it lasts.

Kirsten also woke with a stuffy snoot today, and very phlegmy too ( NFM hovers over baby like hyper hummingbird!) so I'm feeling your stress today.

Wish I could hang boob over crib... baby still comes into bed & I'm too tired to take her back when she's done. My only comfort is knowing she's finally speeding up her feeds. it use to take her 20 - 30 minutes pr feed, but this last eek she seems to be done in 10 - 15.

northernfrozenmama · 13/02/2007 06:18

i've been watching the posts about being organized and laughing my head off, because I can't seem to get it organized.. will try some of the things that re working for others, but I just have to share a funny with you.

I was all ready for a busy day, all packed, snacked, had clothes laid out for everyone... then the day started... I forgot to set my alarm so that I could be in and out of shower before kids woke. I couldn't convince anyone to eat anything but PB & J, and so i had to change DS's outfit after he was done (because I'd gotten him dressed before we went downstairs as I was so organized). DD2 pooped out sleepers so needed changing, immediately after which she ate and vommed all over herself and me... I took shower #2 after changing her into outfit #2, and when I was done with that DD1 informs me that she had a #2 accident in her pants!!!!!!

That's right folks, my well organized day had fallen apart by 10:30 AM. Needless to say, I spent my day doing laundry drinking coffee, and laughing my head off because well, if you don't laugh you'd cry!!

Kudos to you who can get organized and not be de-railed by the LO's!!!

Love to all & g'night!

accessorizewithbabysick · 13/02/2007 08:56

Thanks, NM I am pleased I kept on as it's got much better last day or so. Had lovely skin to skin feed yesterday & he chortled at me throughout which was so lovely.
Kids throw out any attempt at being organised, I had exactly the same thing last night - tried to put baby to bed from 8pm, he threw up, then pooed then got dreadful wind, so it was after 10 by the time I put him down! Grrrr.
Weirdbird, my doomoo just arrived, it's gorgeous, have just fed with it, thanks so much for the tip!

Elibean · 13/02/2007 13:35

Thanks Margo, perk sounds good. Have got some nasty bruise-like pain on one side today, don't think its mastitis (not red, not hard - just sort of fibrous feeling) so am going to see Breast Man (aka breast surgeon I saw years ago to get cystic boobs checked out) on Thursday. I've probably been traumatizing my old biopsy site with the breast pump - M has decided to cry every time I present her with the right one, and only feed on the left

AQ, well done you - wow, that took some persevering! Hope it stays that way for you

And thanks NM and BP...she's still ok, snotty, waking too often, but breathing well...hope your LO is better soon NM, its horrid watching them struggle, isn't it?

Elibean · 13/02/2007 13:37

NM, should print out your post and hang it on my fridge to remind me I'm not alone with Sabotaged Organization

Best laid plans, oy...

jabberwocky · 13/02/2007 13:51

Congrats, AQ! After reading all the posts about latching on I worked a bit w/ ds2 on the side that always hurts. It seemed a bit better this feed. I have been suspicious that he is changing his latch on that side.

NM, I'm w/ you on the non-organized front. Was just thinking today that 3 months was my goal to be ready for reusables and that is next week! eeek!

eli, glad Mischa is still doing well. We've got humidifiers in every bedroom right now to help breathing. Bring on spring!!!!

And...I'm doing the happy dance. I won my insurance appeal and they are now starting to pay off on ds2's birth That saved us about $20,000

accessorizewithbabysick · 13/02/2007 14:22

Congrats on the 20,000 jabber (wow, is that how much it costs to have a baby in the states??) what a relief. How's work going, I can't believe you're back at it already, I'm dreading returning in June fgs...
And thanks eli & jabber for positive messages about bf, I think dp is sooo sick of hearing me talk about my breasts! DS2 is definitely slowing down a bit on the feeding front, I've been going out more to try and space them a bit which seems to be working. I think I'd got lazy with the latches as always busy talking to ds1 or dp or watching tv.

jabberwocky · 13/02/2007 16:39

With a c-section it is about $25,000 plus we spent about $7,000. The amnio was about half of that and lab bills were a lot.

Dh was in total shock when he realized what we almost spent I told him ds2 would've been worth it, but it's nice that we didn't have to go through with paying it.

jabberwocky · 13/02/2007 16:40

Meant to say the 7K was pre-natal.

accessorizewithbabysick · 13/02/2007 18:42

OMG! Didn't cost me a thing to have ds2, but I agree he would have been cheap at any price! Course he's been an angel today, I would have said different on the weekend.
Indith, had typed reply to you but lost it yesterday. If you're going to be in Hull, why don't we meet up?? Jude, could you make it too for a northern meet up? Anyone else in Yorkshire??

Indith · 13/02/2007 20:46

Jabber!

AQ sounds good to me! Think will be there next week (from 19th). Anyway catch me on msn or mail me if you like Indith_underfireatyahoodotcodotuk

Do peaberrys still do ace hot chocolate?

I feel I need to post about my day before it all goes wrong. I'm sure it will going on the past couple of nights! (if a period of darkness in which you don't sleep can be called a night).
Ds has been an angel! He was awake all morning and happy. We were at bumps and babies 10-12 and he was all alert and happy and wonderful, then some of us went to the pub for lunch and though he didn't let me eat with 2 hands he otherwise behaved. Got home and fed him, he thn napped in his cot until 4pm, had a bath and good long skin to skin feed and cuddle. Then he gave me his first huge gummy light his whole face up smile! We kept him awake until he really was flaking out and he has been in bed since 8 after a feed and finally doing a poo (poor little mite was straining away today).

Since it would be asking too much for him to stay asleep til his 10.30 feed and then settle right back down and repeat the process at 2.30 and 5.30 I though I'd better write it down now else I'll be on tomorrow telling you all about the nightmare night I've had

Runninglate · 13/02/2007 22:55

I haven't posted in AGES but have been keeping up with all the chat. It's Baretoes with a new name and I had a DD on the 21st December - fab water birth. No drugs and no damage I am pleased to report! I did have a bad case of elephantiasis of the undercarriage for a while though. Now - the important bit. How do I get her to go to bed before I do???????? Is anyone else having this problem with their LO?? Also her head has broken out in acne. Any handy tips for that too??

satinshoes · 14/02/2007 07:18

Morning all,

Not around yesterday much as DD2 not well. Just got back from A&E with her as cold/cough turned into laboured breathing. She is fine but a bit scary for us.

On a positive note I picked up new car
yesterday. yay

runninglate - My DD still has spots 3 weeks on but they seem to be fading.

She goes to bed at about midnight every night. I wish i could bring it forward to 10ish but i cant complain as she sleep 12-5. I'd appreciate some tips on that too.

jabberwocky · 14/02/2007 10:05

Congrats, Runninglate! Ds2 had baby acne as well. Best thing to do is just wait it out. Putting things on it will only make it worse.

DS2 did his first 5 hour stretch last night! Wonder if he'll do it again?

Indith · 14/02/2007 10:05

Well well I think that went ok! He fed frequently (10, 12.30, 2,45, 5.30) and took a`while to settle each tim but he didn't decide to be wide awake/scream/generally not sleep! I see a light at the end of the tunnel, he has changed so much the past few days and I can see ral progress on th sleep front I'm no longer getting stressed about it, if I can keep this bed time going I know that in time he will start to go longer.

Mind you, when I realised how oftn he was feeding I did the feed then got dp to settle him so we could both get ok stretches of sleep!

Also spotty!

Satin and Running- flushed with a small amount of success I will dare to venture this but can't promise it will last! Basically made sure he doesn't sleep later on in the afternoon and from 6pm onwards kept a careful watch for signs of tiredness. As soon as he seems tired putting him down. If 10 mins later he is awake again not trying to put him to sleep again just getting him up and next time he flakes trying again. Last night he went down at 8 which is a time he often started to gte grumpy at/nap at before so hopeful that I've found his optimum bed time. Taken a few nights and a bit of trial and error (7 pm resulted in a half hour nap then awake til 4am!) but it seems to be working. But then I am a total baby novice who has no idea what she is doing really so please don't kill me if it doesn't work!

margo1974 · 14/02/2007 11:46

I'm puzzled with DD2s behaviour...

Generally she's ratty in the evening, it's not colic and she doesn't really settle in the evening, so I usually cluster feed.

Last night I gave her Calpol as she had her injections last night (to stave off any fever she may have as a side effect) and she slept most of the evening from about 8pm. I had to wake her for feeds and I offered her a dreamfeed and she wouldn't take it. So anyway, I think she must have tummy pain from wind, which the calpol eased, but I don't really want to dose her up.

Do you think I will get the same result from using infacol through the day to ease the effects of wind?

Runninglate · 14/02/2007 13:39

That all makes me feel a bit better!! I did give my DD's head a good shampoo last night and that seems to have helped the spots .

Indith - I think you may be right you know - I think they get over tired and then can't settle themselves. I shall keep an eye on her body language and see if i can time things a bit better! I wonder if i'm keeping her awake and not realising it sometimes!!

Margo - are you breast feeding? I know that milk production is not so good in the evenings, so they do tend to cluster feed to get enough in their little bellies. This is quite normal as far as I can tell! Also - she may just be over tired?

It's all so mysterious isn't it??

Runninglate · 14/02/2007 13:43

By the way - apparently this is the place to get all your branded products (for you!) from - cheaper than duty free and all above board....

accessorizewithbabysick · 14/02/2007 13:54

I think most babies are unsettled at night until about 12 weeks. I'm noticing that ds2 has calmed down a lot just in the last week with this & the wind. He's also started feeding less & further apart - 10 weeks today, so given that I was feeding 5-6 hours a day last week, there's hope! I find gripe water a godsend, more effective for my lo than infacol, certainly worth trying it as he's had dreadful wind & it really gives him relief.
As castles mentioned a while back, giving them a bath before the last feed really helps as they. I usually feed him, wait half an hour, give him a bath (with you if you can as they get a nice deep bath & wear themselves out kicking about) & then feed him in a darkened room & don't speak to him (a sleeping bag also seems to spell nighttime to him). I fed him in the bath last night & it was a really lovely experience.
My ds1 didn't sleep well (slept through at 15 months) so I am so delighted that ds2 sleeps for 7 hours at night! It's made all else esp dealing with a pre-schooler so much easier.

accessorizewithbabysick · 14/02/2007 13:55

Both my sons have had bad acne as newborns, it's just the hormones coming through I think. I feel a bit guilty as I was using ds1's prescription cream (which has steroids) on ds2 so his skin would be nice - corrected by my pharmacist friend yesterday.

margo1974 · 14/02/2007 18:24

Accessorize - definitely a good idea not to talk to them when it's bedtime, but this little terror only seems to smile at that time.

Could it be that she has me wrapped around her little finger already?!

BTW she has slept for most of today ( I think I left my proper child at the doctors yesterday)
