Baileys, I hope you like the chest rub when it's all done. Ironically the lavender oil was the one I had to order

Ds2 didn't like the wedge I got so have been experimenting w/ boppy pillow. etc as he deffo sleeps better at an angle. Sick and tired of colds here as well. Ds1's has lasted 2 weeks so far! And now I have a scratchy throat...hoping this is not the start of a new bug cycling thru us all.

mgnolia, ds2 goes in 2 - 3 hour stretches much more often than 4 - 5. When I took him in Friday for a check-up they said most are doing 5 - 6 hours by now I simply don't believe it...

Elibean · 11/02/2007 10:14

Jabber, 'most are doing etc' - maybe they have heavier babies at the outset, that can go longer?? If its even true - I tend to agree with you!

Hi NM

Colds....well, I spoke too soon about sleep. dd1 was up coughing and streaming in the night, with a very heavy cold that reminds me horribly of the pre-Xmas one that turned out to be RSV and landed dd2 in hospital.

dd2 now sneezing and pale. I'm staying calm best as I can and washing hands like crazy

Indith · 11/02/2007 11:17

Well another ok night! Seems to settle well at first, be a sod after the 2am ish feed until the 5am ish one tthe sleep again. However that gap has now become dps 'turn' so I can sleep between feeds!

I can't imagine him sleeping for more than 2-31/2 hours! He is such a hungry baby and getting huge, he fills his 0-3 stuff now and his huge feet are outgrowing the foot pad bits. What happened to my little baby?

I keep offering him the second breast but he still only takes one and feeds frequently. Sure it will change soon enough.

Hoping the cold bugs keep away Eli

Indith · 11/02/2007 11:19

Are all babies pre-programmed to miss the muslin when they sick up or is ds just talented?

jabberwocky · 11/02/2007 11:47

Good point eli about bigger babies. They made a point to tell me he was "up to" the 25th percentile. He's a nice sized healthy baby who was a preemie, ffs. And gave big surprised looks that he was still "just" on breastmilk and had gained quite a bit (in spite of?) [anger] I really hate well-baby check-ups. With ds1 I just stopped going.

Fingers crossed that Mischa stays healthy.

Ds2 has started getting very awake at 5:30 while ds1 can happily sleep until 9:00. I am soooo not a morning person.

babypowder · 11/02/2007 15:18

PMSL, Indith

magnolia1 · 11/02/2007 15:21

I have given up on muslim's ect...
Have even caught it in my hands on a few occasions

Indith · 11/02/2007 15:25

good reflxes magnolia! His favorite is to vom while in transit from boob to shoulder for burping, its great fun! Yesterday he even got it down the back of my jeans. Warm baby sick in your bum crack. Mmmmmm nice!

magnolia1 · 11/02/2007 15:26

Ds1 was bathed last night but was so upset being taken out of the water I fe him while he was still in the towel, The litle bugger poo'ed everywhere!!
Luckily I hadn't emptied the water

Indith · 11/02/2007 15:30

lol! Fabulous. I love huggling sd out of the bath with no nappy on, dp is rather more cautious!

Indith · 11/02/2007 15:30

who is sd? ds

magnolia1 · 11/02/2007 15:33

lol pop an o in between the the s and the d and thats my ben

Indith · 11/02/2007 15:47

Awwwww he just waged war on my nipple and thn vomited on me! How wonderful. Oh and there are some nice nappy noises happening. What order do those letters go again?

Elibean · 11/02/2007 16:39

Magnolia, my Ben too - oh wait, thats dh

Indith, dd2's favourite trick is to wait until her Daddy puts on his favourite old cashmere (black) sweater, then throw up all down his back. Though she managed his chest as well today.

She's a bit pale, but so far so good...dd1's cough sounds just like the RSV one she had before though

castlesintheair · 11/02/2007 17:45

Hello Eli. Hope Mischa stays well. Great about her sleeping better.

Magnolia, I wonder if your DS might have silent reflux. Just a thought as both my DDs were pretty miserable until they got on meds. DD1 especially: she would SCREAM all day unless in car seat/sling (so she was in them all day ) and then scream from 5pm to 1am when she passed out - literally - and would sleep until 6am when it would start all over again She only projectile vommed at night so it was hard to diagnose but I was lucky with the gp I saw. Ben & Athina are the same age exactly and she's just started to sleep really well. She's about 12lbs now I think & the Night Nanny I had (twice only but twas bliss) said "they are capable of sleeping through the night at 11lbs". Of course, whether they do or not is another matter but we can live in hope. Hope it improves for you soon, it's not fun when you have other LOs (or BOs ) to look after.

Been feeling really crap & dizzy today. DH was going to go out and get me some Spatone but he seems to have been sidetracked by the rugby & now he's asleep on the sofa. Humph.

castlesintheair · 11/02/2007 17:48

Magnolia, he could also have a crick in his neck from the position in utero. I'm sure you know all this but I thought I'd tell you anyway Apparently it's really common. Cranial osteopathy is meant to help I think. I alternate lying DD1 on her side just in case seeing as she was a tranny most of the time

Elibean · 11/02/2007 18:21

Castles, sorry you're feeling crappy again...did the spatone help last time? Seem to remember it did - hope so, having to shove dh off sofa and into car to get some beats being stuck with nothing that helps

Magnolia, I wondered about silent reflux with your LO too...my dd has never done much vomiting (never more than once per 24 hours, sometimes less) but she definitely has improved on Ranitidine and Domperidone. She still gets very windy and is miserable when she does, but its just more - dealable with, for want of better description.

Anyway, agree you've probably tried that route/know about it etc but hey just in case!

weirdbird · 11/02/2007 18:59

Glad I'm not the only one who is struggling with a windy/refluxy baby

Ended up in A&E with DD2 as she suddenly went from screaming all the time to screaming all the time and refusing the breast, so we now have ranitidine, which is helping lots but she is still a very windy/unsettled baby.

Are other people using infacol & ranitidine?

My chemist refused to sell me infacol as DD2 was on ranitidine...

Couldnt find anyone to tell me whether it was ok or not, so am having to wait till next paed appt..

DD1 had her 5th birthday yesterday, I'm sure it was just the stress of 22, 5 year olds, but I am really struggling with the not smoking thing. I think about it all the time...

6 week check this week and my wedding Anniversary on Sat so I think DH might be hopeful, but I'd rather sleep these days

weirdbird · 11/02/2007 19:02

Oh and CR am up definitely up for a meet up, but maybe not for another few weeks, am not sure I would make it there on my own yet!

Do you have transport?

weirdbird · 11/02/2007 19:05

Oh and we had our first session of cranial osteopathy on Thursday and I think it really did help! I know my session definitely did, my neck hasnt felt right since I laboured in the bath and kept banging my head on the rim (didn't realise this time the next day when the bruise appeared!)

What homeopathic remedies are people taking?
Havn't managed to visit/phone mine yet... and have been getting rather ratty this last week with everyone and the world in general.

accessorizewithbabysick · 11/02/2007 22:22

Sorry to hear about your visit to a&E weirdbird, I hope things improve with her, as well as all the other windy/reflux babies. I'm taking sepia (30cc) for tiredness when I need it btw, and have used pulsatilla when feeling weepy.
Olihan, spoke to bfc yesterday, but didn't find it as helpful as I thought I would - she just went on about one position where they climb up your body flattened against you & didn't tell me how to make the positions I already use more comfortable & improve his latch as it's agonising with or without a shield at present. And said that she'd never found a way to feed on standard restaurant chairs in comfort, and I'd have to just live with it.
Have spent much of the weekend thinking whether to give up or not, as I am now uncomfortable & in pain for nearly all feeds & he's still feeding for ages, close together. I did so want to go for longer with ds2, and the health benefits are really important as I have asthma and dp/ds1 both have eczema. But am dreading every feed esp as they can go on for an hour.

Elibean · 11/02/2007 22:36

WB, yes, I'm giving dd ranitidine and infacol - seems fine! Didn't even occur to me it might not be, tbh Glad the ranitidine is helping, reflux is horrid - I have it myself since first pregnancy, and hate to think of my LO feeling like that.

AQ...sorry to hear the feeding is still so painful. I found it agonizing for well over six weeks with dd1, then it slowly improved - somewhere around the eight week mark, if I remember rightly. I'm sure you've said before, but...how's expressing work for you? I did loads of it with dd1, so she got mostly breast milk (she has eczema, though mildly) just not always straight from source. Gave my nipples a break.

I'm panicking a bit tonight. dd1, since going to bed, is incredibly snotty and has a racking cough...can't see Mischa not catching it, somehow, and if she does, can't see her coping with it too well. Not trying to be negative, just...[anxious emoticon]

dh of course is being very male and sensible and saying things like 'well she's ok for now'.

Which is true, I suppose

Elibean · 11/02/2007 22:37

Calm, I'm up for a SW meeting as soon as the major Bug Season eases off - March sometime??

weirdbird · 11/02/2007 23:50

Adds Sepia & pulsitilla to shopping list!
Some days her crying doesnt get to me as I know she is in pain, and then others it just starts feeling like its all too much, in some ways I am loving how small and tiny she is (though she is almost out of 0-3mths so not "that" small!) but at the same time I keep thinking we are now 1/6 of the way there till she will almost be over this and I only have to do another 5/6 and then it will be much more enjoyable...

Eli I was on Ranitidine plus metoclopramide plus something else I can't remember for my hiatus hernia by the end, no wonder they don't want to feed or lie down, I know I didn't want to...

weirdbird · 11/02/2007 23:55

AQ, can you actually meet up with a bf counsellor?

They are a lot more helpful in person in my experience!

Do you have a cushion support when you bf, I find my doomoo buddy which I can mold to fill in space much better than the bf cushions I had before.

Am feeling very thankful that at least if nothing else DD2 seems to know what she is doing on the bf front even if she does throw it all up again half the time....
