jabberwocky · 09/02/2007 07:30

raw broccoli and cauliflower are no-no's w/ me

another one who doesn't go down until 9:30ish but sometimes that means only one feed in the night so I'm OK w/ it

jabberwocky · 09/02/2007 07:31

Belated Happy Birthday, lucy and congrats to AQ for the no-shields feeds!

castlesintheair · 09/02/2007 07:52

Hello Judemum, good to see you back

Calm, I LIVE IN RICHMOND, I'M AVAILABLE PRETTY MUCH MOST DAYS

AQ, re getting LOs to "go down", tho not in the vetinary sense (sorry always makes me laugh), DD2 was always up with us then one night I just bunged her in bed after she'd fed and it worked a dream. My other 2 DCs go to bed around 7/7.30 and then I sit on the sofa with the telly on low, lights lowish and have a lovely feed/cuddle/wind session before DH comes home. I can usually get her to bed around 8. Sometimes you just have to be brave and go for it. I find myself clinging to DH for advice half the time but hey, we are 2nd/3rd time mums, just go for it. Good luck & hth. Also, my DD doesn't really sleep after about 2/3pm until she "goes down" - this is her self-imposed routine, not mine btw, I am far too disorganised to impose one yet!

castlesintheair · 09/02/2007 08:01

AQ, another thing: I give DD2 a bath every night as I'm sure it helps settle them. I dunk her in their big bath, get her dressed, put her in her bed with the mobile going, then do the other 2. It's quite stressful with DD2 screaming half the time especially as it's the time of day when everyones knackered but I just get on with it. Once you've done it a few times it feels easier

magnolia1 · 09/02/2007 12:24

Calmriver: I AM IN EPSOM SO CAN MEET UP TOO

We are still up all evening and ds1 doesn't go down till 11pm and then is up at 2-3am and then 5-6am so I am knackered!
With 4 other children I wanted to get a routine going for my own sanity but I just can't do it

Dh still at home till ds1 is 15 weeks so maybe I will start a routine when he goes back to work

Ds1 has really runny poo, he is feeding loads so not dehydrated and doctor said it's probably a viral infection and b/f as much as possible but we are doing a nappy every hour sometimes

Olihan · 09/02/2007 18:58

Magnolia, that sounds exactly like my ds2. Must be a Ben thing! Bed at 11, feed at 2 then 5 then ds1 and dd get up around 6ish. Such fun .

Can't be bothered with starting a routine yet, not until the evening cluster feeding eases, anyway. It's not worth the stress and I'm banking on him falling in with the other 2 at some point.

satinshoes · 09/02/2007 19:17

guys, my dd is going 12-6 one night and then the next night 11-2-5 like you. i'm hopinh the former wins out soon...but its still very early for them to have routines that suit us yet

magnolia1 · 09/02/2007 19:50

Yeah but wouldn't it be nice if they did

Ds1 currently napping on dh but keeps waking and I keep mutering under my breath about never having 5 minutes to myself

LowFatMilkshake · 09/02/2007 19:56

Hi All,

DS has now gone 2 nights ina row 10ish-5ish! Dont mean to gloat as it's proably his cold tiring him out and it;ll all come tumbling down around me tomorrow.

Ws shoked to rea on a newsletter that it;s now considered acceptable for babies to be put in thier own room beofre 6 months - I most people do this regardless. But just 3 years ago when I had DD the HV was keen for me to move the cot in to our room until she was 6 months - how things change!

Indith · 10/02/2007 10:51

Well ds just spent his first night in hs own room (4 weeks not 6 months Lowfat I decided to stuff the guidelines!) Was not the nightmare I thought it would be and though we had a couple of sessions where it took a long time to settle him both dp and I feel human since we didn't disturb each other when taking turns to settle him and he slept so much better without us disturbing him. Even slep 3 hours straight til 8.30, usually his most fussy time!

Gloria42 · 10/02/2007 11:59

Does anyone have any miracle suggestions for fitting into pre-pregnancy clothes??? I stupidly offered my maternity clothes to DP's sister and will shortly have nothing left that fits me!

Someone told me that BF would help me straight back to my old size - dread to think how long this would have taken if hadn't bf!!!

jabberwocky · 10/02/2007 12:17

Problems w/ clothes here too. My last few pounds seem to be mostly at my waist. Am seriously thinking of doing the corset waist training thing. I have started doing crunches but only seem to remember about every other day

ds2 only woke up once last night. Fingers crossed that he does this more now that cold is clearing up.

bebespain · 10/02/2007 13:34

I'm with you on that one Gloria !!
I too thought BF would help me back to my pre-preg weight...hmm...weighed myself yesterday and am exactly the same now as I was a week after the birth - something must be wrong here.....like you dread to think how I'd be if I wasn't BF

margo1974 · 10/02/2007 13:48

i would be losing weight if i weren't eating whilst b/f

must give up chocolate and biscuits

satinshoes · 10/02/2007 13:51

lol @ margo.

I am v. happy as now below my pre-preg weight. although i still hadnt shed my preg weight from dd1 when i got preg this time (2.5 years on )

DD went from 11-4 and then 4.30-7.30 last night so v pleased. she's also slept all morning so a bit worried i'm going to pay for it tonight

LowFatMilkshake · 10/02/2007 14:28

Hi All,

well done you Indith! I think we're going to have to get DS a new matress for the cot (still got DD's) and put him in his own room. He's 9 weeks on Tuesday and he literaly has only about an inch left in the moses baset anyway! (He's already in 3-6 sleepsuits as his legs are all scrunched up in the 0-3's )

Mind you with this awful cold he has I ight wait till that's cleared - or get him a wedge - anyone have any experiences of a wedge?

Had his 3 night sleeping through from about 7pm (with dream feed at 10.30pm) to 6am! Although he was so snuffly around 1am I had to move him into the bed to prop him up - but he did'nt wake.

I am so fed up of him and having a cold - it's not fair on them, wish I could have it for them. Hopefully with half term here DD will have a break from other infectious children and we might all get over it!

Jabber - went to get the ingredients for your chest rub today - but they only had lavendar oil but they've taken my number and will call me when they're all in.

magnolia1 · 10/02/2007 15:20

I vote that any of you who have babies sleeping more than 2-3 hrs at night LIE TO ME!!!!

Ds1 is being such a grump
I am waiting for an appointment for cranial osteopathy and hopefully this will help with the reflux/colic and general restlesness!
He just doesn't seem happy at all

babypowder · 10/02/2007 17:10

Ah, Magnolia, DD2 doesn't sleep for more than 3 hours at a stretch. But we co-sleep, so no one is disturbed by her feeding in the night. I don't have to get up as so I stay relaxed and sleepy, DH sleeps through the whole thing. Bliss.

Not looking forward to breaking this habit. It was hard with DD1 You'd think I'd learn! But I do love co-sleeping.

margo1974 · 10/02/2007 21:53

Milkshake - wow! your ds has grown!

with regards to sleeping botrh of my girls know to wake as many times in the night if we have a really early start ahead of us!

we have a bedside cot so if dd2 wakes then it's not too much of a disruption. I had taped loads of stuff to watch for night time feeds so it gives me something to do

annaspanner · 10/02/2007 21:55

Milkshake, we've been using a wedge since week 2. My LO didn't have a problem sleeping on her back but I wanted her to lie on her side to avoid flat head-I was a bit worried about her head shape after they used a ventouse during the birth. Now I sometimes lie her on her side and sometimes on her back, but always in the wedge.

annaspanner · 10/02/2007 21:56

It's a nightmare putting the cover back on after washing it though!

Elibean · 10/02/2007 22:43

Hi all, sorry to have been a bit awol....computer started doing weird, buggy things and dd1's godfather came to stay and, more than anything, I've been trying to be a good, organized, housewifey mothery sort of person for the first time in my life (seem to have got away with chaos till dd2 came along) and have been knackered. Not to put too fine a point on it

Castles, thanks for thinking of me, dear Hen!

Mischa is now sleeping from about 8-9pm till 7am with just the one ten minute feed somewhere around 4am, most nights. Bliss. Till the next growth spurt, cold, or, god help us, teething...I'm under no illusions, just grateful...

My very next online minute will be spent catching up on posts - meantime, hope all are well and thriving, babies too

Elibean · 10/02/2007 22:46

Magnolia, just saw your post - sorry! If it makes any difference, M didn't sleep more than 2-3 hours at a time till a few days ago. I think the Ranitidine, plus Infacol (which she's finally swallowing as much as she's spitting out of), plus just being bigger are all helping. Till she had less discomfort, she hardly every smiled and did'nt sleep for long periods (or feed easily)....that colicky/refluxy/windy thing has a lot to answer for.

Wishing the same shift for your ds asap xxx

northernfrozenmama · 11/02/2007 02:56

Hi all! Just finished getting caught up on posts, and now of course, someone needs me for a boob! Just a quick note about wedges... I've a friend whose little one was very refluxy and she used phone books under his mattress to create an angle and it worked a dream!! It would also work to prop up a snuffly baby too.

As for sleep, it's starting to get better. Kirsten is now 9 lbs. 10 oz and beginning to go longer stretches now at night. She cluster feeds all evening, and if she didn't, I'd probably still offer every 2.5 - 3 hours just to keep her fuller.

Actually had almost 7 solid hours last night, first time in months . Don't anticipate it will be nearly so good tonite though .

Eli - nice to hear from you!

northernfrozenmama · 11/02/2007 02:58

BP we're cosleeping too - it makes night time feeds so much easier. I think that I wake DH up almost every night though, because DD2 can't latch on laying down. So I wiggle and jiggle and generally disturb the works, then resettle.
