Many happy returns, Lucy!

Olihan · 07/02/2007 22:17

Hey Spina, forgot to say hi earlier! Nice to see you again too. I'm typing with ds2 flaked out on my lap before I take him up and put him into bed with me.

Starting bad habits, me? Never?

(Someone please tell me it's true that they don't develop habits before 3 months? )

northernmama · 07/02/2007 23:51

Hey everyone, thanx for all the support.... it was a bad week last week. Good news is she's gettng better...just need to get rid of the jaundice that has suddenly cropped up again.

In Canada, we get 52 weeks of mat. leave, 6 weeks at full wage, then @55% with sub plan top up to 66% max. So if you make a good wage, it's do-able to stay home... worth it for me, anyway... and the economy is great here in oil country, so DH is making $ hand over fist. The $ figures out to be about 400.00/week but I don't know what that is in pounds (probably about 100!!!)

It's been a rotten winter for colds & buggies, whether you're wee or big! I can't wait for nicer weather. We've been experiencing a cold snap here too, and it's been snowing again also. About -25 celcius, and arctic winds esp. @ night.

northernmama · 08/02/2007 00:01

I have had sore boobs on & off, but worst @ 3 weeks. It depends on how often she feeds, more feeds=sorer boobs.

Sex is NOT an option in our house just yet... we're both tooo tired!!

On another note, what do you think of nannies? DH is already discussing our options for this fall/winter, and he thinks we should seriously consider one for the next few years. I am happy to think about it (although it seems early), but I'd have to work about 3/4 time, while before Kirsten I only worked 1/2 time.... so much to think about, but if we'regoing to do it, we need to start recruiting this spring, esp. for an international nanny. Thoughts?

And on another, unrelated note, has anyone heard from MardyBum? I have thought a lot about her little Hester, and how the family is doing.

Must go feed the troops! Will try to log on again soon.

jabberwocky · 08/02/2007 01:27

NM, I did a search for Mardybum yesterday and didn't turn up anything after her last post here I hope things are going OK. I do think about her often and her little Hester.

Sex, well, before I went back to work the days ds1 went to Mother's Day Out were well used but finding time is difficult, isn't it?

Indith, I love your list. Echoes mine when I stop to think about it This time around it actually has gone much better with me being downstairs tending to ds2 and sleeping in the nursery. Not what we plan as a permanent situation but it's working surprisingly well atm. Dh tends to hover and be too much of a control freak.

LowFatMilkshake · 08/02/2007 09:09

Hi All,

Firstly apologoes if I cross posts, my conection is slow and it's already got me into trouble on a BF thread which I have been in on and apologised for this morning.

My big news is that DS slept from 10-5.15 last night WooHoo! However that could be because he refused to nap yesterday and was completely knackered, rahter than is a satiaisfied little chap who's belly was full and will continue to sleep through every night for me from now on !

We all still have colds, although DD is more herself now than yesterday. Poor DS is mega snuffly now. But thanks to saline once again after his bottle this morning he bought up a load of gunk (sorry if you're eating). Just me and DH to sort out then!

castlesintheair · 08/02/2007 09:26

NM & Jabber, I was thinking about Mardybum only yesterday. Also, haven't heard from Judemum (miss your stories) recently. Hope everything is ok? And Elibean?? Mother hen in me kicks off sometimes

We are also a house of bugs & ailments but I hate to say it (not really ) DD2 is great, especially at night when she sleeps pretty much 8/9pm to 6am The days are harder of course but like you Olihan I feel very chilled and just so blessed to have 3 gorgeous children. I feel particularly nostalgic as DS is 5 today and I am marvelling at how far he's come and how well he's done in spite of his SN. Feel quite teary at the thought. Off to take some Pulsatilla ...

bebespain · 08/02/2007 10:03

Well my state of euphoria didn't last, how did I know it wouldn't? Back to the old days last night LO only managed 1.00 - 2.40 am and woke again at 6.00 am
And I'm wondering why my boobs are sore! Probabably also dut to the fact that he has been fussing and pulling my nips (ouch!)Glad to hear I'm not the only one but feel for everyone in the sore boobs club as its so not nice.
My LO has started dribbling too - its funny how it just seemed to start one day!
Belated birthday wishes to Lucy - hope your LOs are feeling better...Must go baby calling me...

judemum · 08/02/2007 11:53

hi everyone- sorry not been on for aaages and haven';t read up on the posts- just don't know where the time goes anymore IYKWIM! Had a family funeral here too which hasn't helped. Hope everyone doing fine and settling into the groove. We're all fine- DS2 now in his own room as of 2 weeks ago and he's doing pretty well at nights now- he's such a cutie...sigh . Been really busy jiggling all the rooms around in the house, as at oine pojt a few weeks ah=go the only person in the right bedroom was me! DH now moved back into marital bedroon so now jst the two DS;s in the wrong rooms.. which am working on. No other interesting news really- DS1 had his jabs yesterday, cried his eyes out and bled all over me. I tried to pretend I was cool with it, laughin away with the nurse, but got in the car and felt like crying! Felt so mean. Seem to be able to managed both DS's at nce now which seems like a major achievement although tomorrow have them all day on my own, which not yet done before...
anyway off to brave the snow and meet a freidn for lunch. will try and post more as i miss talking to you guys and starting to feel really out of the loop!

judemum · 08/02/2007 11:54

hello castles! nice to be missed

Indith · 08/02/2007 12:01

Happy birthday for yesterday Lucy!

Olihan- re habits, all I can say is I bloody well hope they don't or I am in trouble!

Ds flaked out on my lap, of course t isn't a nap, more a doze that will end as soon as I move-tho considering trying to move and pop him in his cot even if it only lasts 5 min.

My resolve is pants, possibly to do with the fact that if I co sleep he just wakes for feeds every 3 hours, in his crib he sleeps for 40 mins, wakes, wants the breast, takes an hour to settle and sleeps for 40 min again! The 3 hour option sems to win every time! Still I know that the only way past it is to put myself through some nightmare nights. What do you do when the lo is demanding breast in a desprate inconsolable way but you know they are not hungry?

to join the boobs thing, mine are sore where he clamps on just above the nipple. He does make me laugh though, his way of avoiding my fast let down is to lick and play with the nipple until it starts to flow then lap at the milk til it slows down. Of course he often ends up wearing a fair amount of it and today has milk encrusted in his hair because I couldn't be bothered to bath him last night!

Also thinking about MB the other day, I hope things are well with her.

accessorizewithbabysick · 08/02/2007 12:55

haha, judemum, we are doing exactly the same thing with bedrooms. Poor ds1 never knows where to find us these days!
Indith, your vows really rang true with me, ds2 also does the 45 mins wakeup thing, but I vowed not to co-sleep again when I woke up to find a pillow on his face as I'd propped him up on one to help him breathe. I've now put a flattish pillow in his cot, covered it with a sheet tucked right under the mattress & he slept from 11.30 - 6.45 last night.
What time do you all put your lo's to bed, we can't seem to get ds2 to bed until 9.30 at the earliest, it's usually more like 11.30 or midnight & I'm finding it really hard to cope with no evening to myself at all. Or is this just something to put up with for now? Can't see how to fit his bedtime routine with ds1's (who goes for a bath at 6.30, bed at 7ish) but I'm sure we'll figure it out. Just wondered if I ought to be putting ds2 down at 8, knowing that he'll wake for a feed at 11 or so? At the moment, he goes down at, say 11pm then doesn't wake until 5.30. By the time I've fed & winded him, ds1 is up and about!
DS2 having his first decent daytime nap that I've been home for in ages & what am I doing??? Chores a plenty, but here I am on mumsnet & putting photos on snapfish. Durrr.

bebespain · 08/02/2007 13:15

I'm finding the evenings an absolute nightmare and can't imagine ever having a routine....
DS doesn't sem to want to sleep at all after 6pm and that's it until midnight ish. He has become really fussy too - pulling, screaming, arms and legs all over the place, I really hope this is just a phase as last night was awful with both of us totally frustrated - I don't even know if he was genuinely hungry or was just comforting himself...
Oh, anyone else LO sucking hand/fingers...? Mine has started this recently and does so at all times even straight after a feed so hard to tell if he's doing it out of hunger or as a comforter - won't take a dummy

accessorizewithbabysick · 08/02/2007 13:44

In my head, I know that at some point, ds2 will go to sleep at a reasonable hour but at the moment I dread the evenings too bebespain! He doesn't usually sleep (even a catnap) from about 4 in the afternoon to 11 at night. Bring on 3 months, surely things will change then? I did wonder last night whether the tv & us talking was stimulating him too much & he really wants to go to sleep thus the thrashing about etc?
Olihan, re: BFC (can't help but think of roald dahl...) I rang her today & she's coming to see me Saturday. I am ridiculously excited as I think this could make breastfeeding soooo much better. Also have managed virtually every feed for the last day and a half without shields, yay!

satinshoes · 08/02/2007 14:13

up until a few days ago dd2 was up from 4-5pm until about midnight. it was totally knackering. then she had a nap at about 8 the other night for an hour and then went down at 11. she seems to be going to sleep at 10.30-11.30 now and sleeps for about 4 hours. they will form more of a routine as they get a bit older. the thingthat really worked for me was to expect the worst! stay up/downstairs until 11 most nights. i had been getting into bed at about 9 and watching tv whilst feeding etc but could then barely keep my eyes open

it will get better

annaspanner · 08/02/2007 14:19

Bebespain
We had the same terrible evenings beacuase of wind but started using infacol and the odd dose of gripe water(or a bit on a dummy)and she is (mostly) fine now.

I'm stil having feeding problems though, throughout the day...she goes frantic after a feed, pulling, biting, throwing head from side to side etc....we have to put her in her buggy for 10 mins to quieten her...then she's fine.

accessorizewithbabysick · 08/02/2007 14:46

DS2's wind is now dominating our lives, but I do remember that ds1 was exactly the same so clearly i produce windy babies. Gripe water after every feed helps, but mainly bouncing and lying him on his front on my lap (whoever told me about that technique, thank you, it's brilliant!) - also I've discovered that I can play musical farts with him if I cycle his legs & then push them forward into his tummy

I have give up caffeine & chocolate, which I am soooo missing - what else do I have to give up? grrrr

But...he's having a lovely long nap now, nearly 4 hours so I suppose I'd better wake him up. doesn't seem to make any difference if he naps or not during the day - still stays up until 11!

satinshoes · 08/02/2007 14:48

i have fond if i eat onions & garlic then dd2 is very windy

annaspanner · 08/02/2007 15:38

northernfrozenmama · 09/02/2007 06:21

I had to give up dairy with DS...

As for DD2, she won't settle tonite. Been up for hours, wants to nurse-bounce-jiggle-diaper-nurse all evening, and doesn't want to be put down either! Argh, I'm so tired I could sleep for a whole day too!

northernfrozenmama · 09/02/2007 06:25

Nice to see you back Judemum! I can hardly keep up with everyone, but it is so nice to be able to log on, zip thru the posts, and keep going!
