Bebe, my boobs are really sore again, just like when milk first came...but at 7 weeks!

babypowder · 07/02/2007 12:36

Just a thought, but for those with sore boobs, are any of you on the mini-pill? My GP put me on them after DD1 and I had the most incredibly tender breasts as a result.

Not that I've even considered birth control yet - or had any need for it!

babypowder · 07/02/2007 12:39

Which has reminded me of my fitst appointment with my GP after DD1. He visited us 3 weeks after DD1 was born, and then advised ME that I had to 'get back in the saddle' and have sex with DH soon. Thankfully DH was more understanding, following the traumatic CS and all!!

margo1974 · 07/02/2007 12:42

how rude of your gp!

he was obviously sex starved at home

spina · 07/02/2007 13:08

hello

i'm not getting much of a chance to post.my lo is almost constantly in my arms. am beginning to think i'll have to start considering encouarging him to fall asleep on his own not as a result of a boob/cuddle combo. However at 4:30am (or lunchtime/going for a wee) the last thing i want to do is wake him up to get him to sleep!!
i've tried to catch up with posts but only got so far and prob need to eat some lunch.

margo, did my first shopping trip on monday.Secret divide and conquer...only took baby and thankfully my babybjorn. he slept most of the way round. Woke up just before checkout and cried most loudly. i'm thankfully able to see that the crying will stop and i don't give much thought to what others think of me in tescos with regards my mothering skills(as i know he's only 5 wks old and i havn't done anything wrong....I'm totally diff with older baby/toddler tantrums!) however i'm almost 99% sure that the lady on the till apologised to the customer in front for MY baby crying. I didn't challange her as i woud have appeared a paranoid defensive mum,but if she did...... and double

a 5wk old has the cry of a kitten in a big space like a supermarket!!!

he's spotty btw but smiling and totally delicious.

which brand of reuseables are you all using? i'm about to invest but don't know which ones to go for. Wish i done it when ds1 was a baby as had choice of two brands then. But i'd prob have gone for wrong ones!!!

satinshoes · 07/02/2007 13:40

i all

yes my boobs hurt at 6 weeks, think it was down the growth spurt.

about to take dd for her 1st jabs. wish me luck

annaspanner · 07/02/2007 13:44

Birth control?? Not only am I scared of damaging my bits(I couldn't face looking at my stitches), or have any desire for sex...but when do you have the time? I think poor DP thought we'd be back to normal(ie. pre pregnancy after six weeks). Does breastfeeding make a difference?(ie. lessen sex drive). I tried to do some Pilates at home the other day but my boobs were so heavy and uncomfortable, I just gave up.

Another question...When does teething normally start? How do you know when it has started?

castlesintheair · 07/02/2007 14:49

Anna, teething can start any time, you know when it does - they dribble & can be quite fractious. Some are hit worse than others. My 2 DCs were pretty cool about it. Giving them "Teetha" or other forms of chamomille helps. Let's hope it's not for some time yet.

We are "back in the saddle" nookie-wise. It's just finding the time that's hard! No contraception just taking pot-luck & relying on bf'ing contraception Watch the ante-natal threads for a "due in ...."

I'm not laughing, really.

margo1974 · 07/02/2007 15:03

brave girl castles!

dd1 was 11 months when she cut her first tooth so i had 6 months of old biddies saying - is she teething yet? argh!

saying that dd1 was ill the other day - temp really high and she failed the biscuit test - (we called her into the kitchen for a biscuit and she stayed curled up on the sofa)cue phone call to nhs direct. although child neurofen eventually made her better

It was only that evening I saw that one of her back teeth were coming through - i am a bad mum

babypowder · 07/02/2007 15:32

Spina, I'm using totsbots mostly, although i also like Motherease and Motherease Sandys. Motherease wraps for daytime are fab, and totsbots fleeces or wool wraps at night.

annaspanner · 07/02/2007 15:37

Mine is dribbling a lot more and constantly turning her head from side to side, but not rooting, and gets very bitey at the end of a feed, and quite frantic(and a burp doesnt help)......I tried some teething gel just before the last feed(for the first time) and she seems a little bit better...maybe it is teething.

accessorizewithbabysick · 07/02/2007 16:07

Feel like it's been forever since I've actually been able to post. DS2 has been feeding for an hour at a time every 2 hours & with dreadful wind after every feed (although the nights are still pretty good). I got desperate last night & wanted to give up altogether, but I don't actually think he likes bottles that much. Rang the NCT this morning & they were great - going to try to get to a counsellor about 30 miles from me as soon as I can.

Have you tried speaking to NCT Magnolia, as I think you're having similar probs to me. I've only had boys so far, both of them took forever & feed all the time, but I've never got past 9 weeks yet - would like to, so I'll persevere. Have been trying not to use shields, so my breasts are hurting like &(&%^ too!

My reusables arrived last week, I bought some Whambamboos but haven't had any time to order nippas and wraps or a bucket etc so they're just sat there. They're so lovely, though, can't wait to use them & put an end to my landfill contribution. I bought those, spina, coz they're quite thin & dry fairly easily, I don't have a dryer nor much space to dry. Plus apparently they are incredibly absorbant. I ought to go and order some wraps now whilst I have 5 mins to myself (parked ds1 in front of a dvd & ds2 having his 4th nap of the day - makes up for the endless, painful feeding!).

Hope all your lo's get better as the cold weather eases up, I can't believe how ill some of them have been. I think I too would be tempted to stay indoors & ban guests for some time!

satinshoes · 07/02/2007 16:16

DD di so wellwith her abs. We had to wait an hour so i fed her loads before. As we went in she was just about to drop off to sleep. She gave me the biggest smil i've had about 2 seconds before the 1t needle went in . Cried for 30 seconds and then was fine. She's seeping now so I just have to hope she is fine later. DD1 grizzled for a week after her first jabs

satinshoes · 07/02/2007 16:17

sorry. this keyboard is sh!£

LowFatMilkshake · 07/02/2007 19:49

Oh it's fun in our house. I have spent the afternoon pleading with DD to drink as she has such a horrid cold and is fighting off temperatures daly, and is also now complaining her bottom hurts when she wees (she hardly drank yesterday)

Teatime was fun tonight, DD insisted daddy feed her and DS was screaming 45 minutes early for his milk. Wicked parents that we are, I just cuddled him while I ate, so both of us sat there plates of lovely ham and pea pasta balancing on our knees getting cold while we tended our little people.

Took DS in to the bathroom with me while I managed a shower (so much for my me time) with him still screaming. Took him in our room and stripped him to vest which usually produces the biggest smile - but so hungry by now he carried on screaming. DH came up with the bottle at 6 and it was like the mute button had been pressed

DD has gone to bed and droped off imedialtey, I nailed the swaddling thing by placing him lower on the sheet, only for him to wake again after 10 minutes, so now DH has him on his lap, back in his sleeping bag fast asleep. DH doesnt mind as it means he can watch the footie uninterupted as I will do all the chores so not to disturb DS

As for sex, we both wanted to on Saturday, but are so out of practice we got completely mixed messages and ended up going to sleep and rowing about it on Sunday . So as DH works 6 days we are waiting till this Saturday (cant do it on a school night )

Another couple here throwing caution to the wind regarding contraception - although after tonight DH did mention I put some condoms on the Tesco order as he is most emphatically not having another child after tonight - and wants the parent child ratio to remain 1-1

Good grief I have rambled on!

Jabber, thanks for the vapour recipe - just have to work out where to get some of those ingredients?

LowFatMilkshake · 07/02/2007 19:50

Oh and to cap it all either DS has reflux or he bought back loads of milk as a result of screaming for so long.....so will be wanting it early again come 10pm

Olihan · 07/02/2007 20:07

SEX? SERIOUSLY? No chance . I know most of you who've done it are a few weeks further down the line than me but.........nope, can't even think about it yet!

Anna, bf doesn't necessarily lessen your sex drive but it can make you a bit drier down below apparently - ouch!

Can't believe you naughty girls who aren't using contraception . DS2 is a result of not sorting out having my coil replaced after dd hence the 3 children under 3! I'm making an appt to have it put back in at my 6 week check, 4 under 4 is pushing it, even for me!

BS, fingers crossed for another night like that - am more than a bit .

BP, hope the results just show it's the jaundice, must be very worrying for you.

Olihan · 07/02/2007 20:11

AQ, meant to say, def go and see the bfc. The one I saw was fantastic. DS2 was doing what yours is doing but the bfc helped me to adjust my latch slightly and he feeds so much more efficiently now.

Nice to see you back btw, was wondering where you'd got to and how you were getting on .

Indith · 07/02/2007 20:24

Last night dp was away so I had to go it alone. I had nobody to fall back on when I lost my rag, I had to be patient. And you know what I had a great night!

So, here is my new resolution:

I will be patient
I will not stick ds back in his crib as soon as he drops off at the breast just because I'm dropping off too. He wakes up again after 5 mins during the day no reason why he won't at night too
I will wind mid feed and at the end properly, no excuses.
If I suspect he has pooed I will not burrow under the duvet and hope he won't notice, he will after about 20mins.
I will remmber that spending that extra half hour each feed means more sleep not less.

Oh and starting Friday he is going in his own room, he disturbs us chuntering in his sleep and we disturb him.

Wish me luck and an iron will!

Indith · 07/02/2007 20:28

Oh and sex? I'd love some but when? I've a baby who can't be put down awake, doesn't nap and whose all time maximum between feeds at night so far is 3hrs20mins, believe me we use that time for sleep!

Oh I should have added to the list:

I will stop worrying about earlir bedtime until ds sleeps earlier consistantly, adult bedtime is a good enough focus for now.

LowFatMilkshake · 07/02/2007 20:40

Indith - good luck, and long may your resolve last! I so aknow what youa re talking about re naps. DD in comparsion was a lovely sleeper and had regualr scheduled daily naps of 60 minutes and more. This is such a rude awakening

After DS marathon screaming session tonight I am going to have to go and apologise to our neighbours tomorrow, pehaps with a box of chocolates as a peace offering - they are retired! (oh for a detatched house).

DH moved into DS room because of the night time chuntering - hence sex only possible on the weekend when he doent have to work. I would love to put DS into his own room but am parnoid and would have the monitor glued to my ear all night.

And can I ask on the sex thing, those of you who have had it.....is you DC still in your room? I know we did it with DD in out room, but it still feels odd - I dont like doing it in front of the cats (they go out at night and laugh at us woth all their feline chums), let alone my sleeping baby.

Olihan · 07/02/2007 21:13

Indith, the napping/being put down does get better. DS2 was exactly as you describe at 3 weeks but now he's approaching 6 weeks he's happy to lie under the baby gym or sit in his chair for 10/15 minutes. I've discovered you can get an awful lot done in a quarter of an hour!

I've had a couple of nights on my own this week too - I'm also calmer and cope a lot better on my own, weird, hey? I had about 3 hours broken sleep and all 3 dcs were up at various times but I was okay.

HV came today and commented on how 'mellow' I seemed. She helped me through the whole PND/ low thyroid nightmare after dd was born so I think she's keeping a close eye this time. I feel a lot more mellow this time round though, so hopefully I'll stay that way.

lucy5 · 07/02/2007 21:25

Just want to say hello. Things have been going well, fingers crossed. Have had a hard day today though, not the best of birthdays. Dd was sent home from school with a tummy bug and has been projectile vomiting for most of the afternoon. Ds [still have to think when typing that] had his vaccinations yesterday and has been very clingy and a bit grizzly. Had them both waking alternately in the night last night and dh is now watching the bloody football. Sorry moan over, oh no I forgot I've got another blooming cold!

Lucy - is it your birthday - if so many happy returns! xxx

Olihan · 07/02/2007 22:06

Aw Lucy, the days when projectile vomiting on your birthday was a sign of a bloody good time are long gone, eh?

Eek, I'm not trying to say you're old or anything..

Happy Birthday anyway
