Hopefully this works...

So we can keep in touch and pass on words of wisdom!

Perhaps someone clever could link to the stats?

Thanks ladies for the bag-packing advice! Will double my pad quota.

Becks - gorgeous pic!

Cookiesandcoffee · 11/07/2016 11:16

becks so cute!!

Oh primary I would be fuming! I've used a snot sucker before! Got it from Boots and was quite a success. Get yourself some nice non maternity treats while you're shopping too! Snuffle babe is also good! One of my tips is to have a warm shower and bring them in the bathroom with you- the steam can help unblock. Obviously make sure they don't get hot etc.

indians good luck with the breast feeding lady!

I think my sore boobs may have developed into mastitis :( any tips welcome. Feeling really unwell, stringy bits in milk and my boob is really red and patchy. Nearly fainted I think earlier.

Cookies- only tip I've got is to breastfeed from the side of the breast that's sore (if it's on one side particularly). So for example if the sorest bit is above your nipple, lie on your back with the baby approaching from your head/shoulder angle and feed that way (and getting a nice big mouthful) - apparently it helps unblock the ducts. Good luck!

dats · 11/07/2016 13:55

Cookies warm compress and antibiotics, quick - don't let it get worse, you poor thing xx

tams13 · 11/07/2016 14:19

cookies sounds bizarre but I've also heard that a cabbage leaf on the boob can ease soreness. No idea how or why and realise that this makes me sound crazy!

primarynoodle · 11/07/2016 14:35

Ouch cookies :( get to docs asap but i found soaking a few breastpads, freezing them then placing them around my boob helped reduce swelling. Cabbage leaves meant to have a similar effect.

Thanks for advice re:saline drops - dh put them in earlier then about 5 mins later she sneezed some dreadful bogies and now shes feeding/breathing beautifully! Will go and stock up on baby vicks and a snot sucker too just in case.

Becks - that photo is adorable!

Cookies - mastitis is bloody painful, but Antonio works really fast so fingers crossed if you get thee to a doc today you should be feeling better tmw. Cabbage leaves really work for soothing in the meantime.

Oh Cookies hope you're on the mend soon. My boobs are taking a battering so I tried cold cabbage leaves...a welcome relief until I went for a nap and woke up with wilted, stinking, sweaty cabbage leaves in my bra...not pleasant!

Indians I've never had stitches (don't draw any conclusions from that Grin) but still find the first poo a tentative affair! Glad the BF is going well.

Elliz I bathed Harry when he was one week old and I'll now bath him twice a week. I'm using a touch of Johnsons baby bath in the water and a squirt of top to toe on his little bit of hair. He had a couple of dry patches on his wrists and feet but coconut oil have cleared it up a treat.

Primary sorry to hear Annie has a cold, hope she's on the mend soon. DD has a stinker of one and I'm worried Harry will catch it...I mentioned it to my midwife friend and she recommended saline drops so I've ordered some just in case!

Becks lovely photo!

Julfin I took far too many pads but better to be safe than sorry!

He's a pic of my little munch after his bath tonight. So in love with him!

Aww hopes he's lovely

Ive not heard of these Saline drops you talk of ladies but I feel I need to get some for the cupboard!

Glad it seemed to help primary I hope she's on the mend soon . I will try that with the breast pads thank you. They had fancy gel ones in Boots but £15 seemed steep

elliz I'm a bit disappointed - Antonio sounded like an attractive waiter or something!

indians glad it went well with the breast feeding lady.

Thanks julfin I've been feeding from the 'bad' boob lots and also draining it with pump after a feed to try and get it out. Still seems red/hot/sore in the effected area. Not sure how to feed upside down?! Will definitely attempt this tomorrow! And will report back !

The thought of cabbage leaves rotting that close to my face is making me feel physically sick, unfortunately! I'm ringing the docs first thing in the morning, I kept putting it off and before I knew it was too late! I did manage to drag myself to the registry office today to get George registered. . He's official!!!

What a cutie hopes!

BeauticianNotMagician81 · 12/07/2016 07:56

Hi ladies hope everyone is doing well.

I will catch up promise but I just wanted some breast feeding advice. My boobs are like rocks quite often since my milk came in. Yesterday the midwife advised I hand express but I can't get the hang of it. So I've just been using my electric pump to soften them up so that Monty-Beau can latch. Is this right? Will my boobs always go hard throughout breast feeding or do they settle.

He currently feeds every 4 hours in the day but every hour at night until 4am when he has a long sleep.

Anyone else suffering headaches. I've had one since Sunday which I can't shift. Sad

BeauticianNotMagician81 · 12/07/2016 07:58

I've just expressed off 2oz. So I have plenty of milk here.

primarynoodle · 12/07/2016 08:51

Beaut - annie was nocturnal for a few days but seems to have shifted to a morning cluster feed, 3 hours in the day and 3/4 hours at night routine now so hang in there and hopefully it will sort itself out. Also i got MEGA headaches and am now literally gulping down a pint of water per feed in the day so am drinking about 5/6 pints of water a day and theyve vanished... maybe try that?

Having more breastfeeding nightmares over here - i seem to be too good at making milk and it sprays and leaks EVERYWHERE. think its starting to affect her feeding so am giving block feeding a go... dont feel like i have any idea what im doing tbh!

Beaut the rock hard boob thing should settle down as your supply regulates to meet the demand. Expressing a little to soften them is a good idea too. Hope it starts to settle down soon!

beaut and primary it should all settle down once your supply regulates. I promise it will get easier - I had a (really agonisingly and toe-curlingly painful, crying for weeks!!!) tough start but was determined, eventho it felt like we'd never get the hang of it and kept going for 22 months. Never thought I'd get there.

beaut the rock hard boobs will settle and soon you'll rarely notice any change in size unless you have to skip a feed for whatever reason. They're amazing things, boobs! Warm showers, compresses and time will sort. I could never hand express very well. Found it painful and unproductive. I have an electric pump and a hand one, maybe try a hand one if you can, as well?

primary you have the opposite problem to me in terms of supply #goldenboobs! but that should also regulate too.

The www.kellymom.com and www.lalecheleague.org websites are both brilliant sources of help.

You're both doing a fab job - no bf politics from me - I'm just a believer that women should feed how they want, be it formula or milk, I just know fuck-all about formula but a lot about the traumas of early bf so I am high-fiving all efforts!

dats · 12/07/2016 11:30

Indians reaping benefits - exactly. I am a fan of keeping things simple so one of the main reasons bf is great is because I am LAZY and cba to cart extra kit around or wash up more than necessary Smile

primarynoodle · 12/07/2016 12:39

Dats - i agree 100%. Formula feeding scares me more tbh because id worry so much about if bottles were clean/sterile enough or if i was over/under feeding or forgetting bottles etc etc etc... infact hats off to the formula feeders who have to get their arses out of bed at night to make up a bottle instead of just whacking the boob out! As if we arent all sleep deprived enough!!

I cant believe how quickly this first week has gone, it feels like shes been here forever!

beckslovestimmy · 12/07/2016 13:10

Ladies bottle feeding is a doddle, if any of you do end up bottle feeding and want to ask anything I ended up bottle feeding DD and am now feeding Benjamin formula. Smile
