julfin I've got the Medea swing single and its really good. Came in a kit with bottles etc - the bottles are designed to make the baby work for the milk so as to be a bit closer to breast feeding.

becks well impressed with the running! I am so looking forward to being able to exercise.

indians well done on the registering. We still haven't picked a middle name so I think we will be pushing at that six week deadline!

May I just share, I had a horrible poo earlier that made me bleed, and now my bottom is terribly uncomfortable :( I blame the iron tablets.

What have you ladies done about getting measured for nursing bras? My boobs are patently too voluminous for the nursing bra I am squashing them into at the moment. I had a crap experience at mothercare while pregnant so am loath to go back. Also wondering - how does one actually get measured for a bra, and indeed try on bras, when one's boobs are liable to piss milk everywhere? Quandary.

Ellizardo · 27/07/2016 03:05

Bluebell - I would go to m&s. They're so much better than mothercare. If the appt is scheduled all the better as you can then arm yourself with nipple pads/cling film/kitchen towel. Plus, those m&s ladies have seen it all. I am planning on returning as haven't been measured since Ted and I could quite literally be anything.

Sorry to hear about evil poo..I have same issue and at anytime day or night?

Becks - so impressed with your run. I managed dinner in town with a friend last night...that's my equivalent! Cheese eating.

Claudia's stump fell off yesterday, finally. Midwife scientifically observed this meant she'd be clingy around primary school timeHmm

Ellizardo · 27/07/2016 03:07

Ps Iowa trip cancelled due to revelation that a lot of stuff avail online?! Why didn't I know this before?! Must exit from under rock

BeauticianNotMagician81 · 27/07/2016 04:44

Dolly just because your dd is more settled after a bottle doesn't mean she isn't getting enough from you. Babies tend to be calmer after a bottle as they often get so full up as Bluebell said because it comes out a lot quicker.
I'm thinking about giving up breastfeeding bit for different reasons. My supply is ridiculous. I literally spray milk everywhere at every feed. Everything's soaking and sticky. Which on one hand is fab but on the other it causes M to gulp and almost choke. Plus it's hard to sit feeding for an hour or more when I have a 3 year old to look after as well.

Sock welcome. Lovely little boy you have there.
What are you struggling with??

Cheery thank you Teddy is feeling much better. He still has a cough but I've made him stay in for the past couple of days and it seems to be getting better.

Indians hope the thrush clears up quickly for you both. T had it and I remember the medicine kicking in pretty quick.
Sorry to hear about your poor mum and dad. So great that the police caught him though.

Eliz your trip to Iowa made me laugh. Glad you decided to order online. Wise decision.

Bluebell haha at answering the door in your pants. I'm currently rocking huge granny pants and my thighs and arse are still pregnant so definitely won't be answering my door in pants.

Primary I keep thinking my lochia has all but gone. Most days it's a light pink/brown and quite watery but then sometimes I'll go to the loo and it's more like full on blood again. M will be 3 weeks on Friday.

Julfin I'm using the medela swing single pump it's fab. I also use the mam bottles they are supposed to be closest to breast feeding and M has taken them easily since last week.
Sorry you've both been ill but glad you are on the mend now.

Becks wow well done on the run. I can barely manage to shower each day let alone think about exercise.

Bluebell I'm still on some stretchy sleep bras from Jojo. Really must go and get measured or my boobs are going to be swinging around my knees soon.

So DH had to drive himself to hospital last night. He definitely has an umbilical hernia. He's booked for an operation tomorrow morning so they've kept him in overnight. I feel so bad he has no clean clothes or anything with him. I don't even know how I'm going to collect him tomorrow. MIL has the older 3 children as she's taking them to an adventure playground for the day. I have a food shop delivery booked and also Ms registration in the afternoon. I might have to get someone to collect DH Sad. Very worried about finances. They've said two-six weeks off work for him.

Bluebell - I echo the advice re M&S. Definitely book a fitting appointment in advance though, so you'll get proper attention/service. I went at around 38 weeks so didn't have the milk-pissing problem, but as Elliz says, I'm sure they've seen it all before - just take lots of breast pads with you. I'm sorry to hear about your sore bottom - hope it gets better soon. Re middle names, how about you put it to vote on here? 😉 😄

Bluebell, Beaut, Dolly - Thanks for advice re breast pump. I'll get the medela swing.

Elliz - gosh that's a long time for the stump, I think...? Jasper's fell off within a few days. We noticed it was missing first, and had to keep an eye out, not knowing where it might show up... 😳

Beaut - really sorry to hear about DH, and about the financial implications. Will keep fingers crossed he's on the mend soon. Glad Teddy is feeling better.

Becks - jealous of your run. Well done you! I'm still sore and itchy "down there" so I think it'll be a while before I'm exercising properly and running again. Need to work out what gentle exercise I can do in the meantime. For now I'm just walking lots but I'd like to do more.

Just cleaned up another bright green projectile liquipoo. It was one of those gifts that keep on giving. The floral wallpaper in my parents' guest-room had a narrow escape.

Day 13

Ta elliz and julf; I shall book myself in to m and s just as soon as I can face the thought of a shopping trip... Might ask MIL to take me. DH does not shop well. Good advice on the spare breast pads too. Beaut, I actually just ordered one of those jojo bras to tide me over!

Elliz Ruben's stump is still on at 16 days - we've not yet been discharged from the midwives because of it! Starting to feel as though it might be a permanent feature! However I did get very excited at 4.30am when I discovered that his stitches had finally fallen out of his forehead (where they cut him during the c-section). Hooray!

Beaut Ruben sometimes chokes on my milk. It's frustrating because I have to sit him up, and then quite frequently refuses to go back on the boob... Meaning he is likely to awake ravenous within the following hour! Nightmare re. DH and op. Will he not get decent sick pay? Let's hope it's the thinner end of the 2-6 weeks that he has to be off.

Julfin at the moment we are thinking of giving him two middle names after his uncles, but one of his uncles is called Robin so I'm not sure, as it's a bit close to Ruben! Does sound a bit storybookish though, which I like. His other uncle is called Charlie. Other options are Francis or Frankie after a good friend of ours, or my husband likes Wilfred which is an old family name on his side but which has no significance to either of us. I would have liked to reference my mum somehow in his name, but can't think of a way of doing it - her maiden name is no good because her dad was bloody horrible!!!

Bluebell20 · 27/07/2016 06:59

primary I have those John Lewis ones at the moment and love the design, but I bought them at about 8 months pregnant and they are a bit squashtastic now! Maybe I will head to JL. I'm sure your milk supply will be fine - I think a lot of people regularly leave it 5 hours overnight. Bloody annoying though! I've been setting alarms - not that I need them as Ruben lets me know when to wake up!

socktastic · 27/07/2016 07:37

Debrnhams were great for nursing bras and also bravissimo.

I've have a very unsettled wee boy last night into this morning. When he sleeps he's ok but hes really uncomfortable or distressed over something. It's like he's straining for a poo, last one was lunchtime yesterday. We just stopped the expressed breast milk too so wondering if that could be a factor? (Boobs feel like they're going to explode but I need emergency dental treatment which involves horrible antibiotics so we made the decision to stop bf). I'm not sure if his digestive system is struggling to cope with only formula now.
Hope all you lovely ladies got some sleep last night.

Cookiesandcoffee · 27/07/2016 09:54

julfin Medela Swing all the way. I recommend the bottles too for mixed feeding. I've also used Mam in the past but I always start with Medela as baby works extra hard to get the milk out so great for breast milk. Keep a look out for different prices as I saved quite a bit when Amazon randomly reduced the price. I got a bottle with it as well.

indians Eurgh thrush you poor things . Hope the medicine kicks in ASAP. Break in sounds horrific your poor mama. Must be so difficult for her. Hope the police station experience isn't too traumatic. Sending Flowers

bluebell I also loathe Mothercare nursing bras for service as well as product (they really don't fit me) I had a few from M&S which have been great. Echoing others advice sorry. And yes recommend an app with them . I am on the look out for a few more as I can't seem to get mine washed quickly enough.

becks wow that's really good!! So impressive Go you!! I went on a mini jog the other day and thought I was good (literally one km I think if that Blush!) it was a bit naughty of me but I felt better for it. I was getting bored with walking!

elliz great discovery and very wise! I didn't know this either until recently. I'm saving up til I want a few bits and making an order.

beaut really sorry to hear about DH. And the financial implications are a worry. It might be nearer 2 weeks though.. Trying to think positively for you. Have your boobs calmed down at all yet? I've been having a bit of a wobble these past few days too.

sock I would think it was because of the milk, when I weaned DD off the boob she had awful constipation and digestive difficulties as the formula was harder to digest. I'm sure it will get better in time. If he's struggling to poo is he allowed lactulose ? I'm pretty sure it's safe for babies? Try and soften that poo for him. Poor thing, hope it eases soon.

Sorry for anyone I've missed. Been a tired mamma these past few days. Not quite sure if it's a growth spurt but G is much more unsettled and very fussy at the boob. Even more so on the boob which had the infection. This has been troubling me as the infection has been clear a while and we've had no further problems. Feeling a bit paranoid now. He's been good at settling himself but it's now a very different story.

3 weeks and 2 days old (where does the time go?!)

Flossiesmummy · 27/07/2016 14:41

I bought a nursing bra from vertbaudet and it's great for those who were discussing bras upthread.

Health visitor thinks it's the milk too. I was still able to express so she advised I wean him off breast milk more gradually. So he was on a bottle of breast milk a day and she's recommending that for the next few days I do 1/4 formula, 3/4 breast milk in one of his feeds and change the balance over next few days.

I know exactly what you mean Indians, I would love just to live in a little community made up of new mums - we could help each other out and see that we're all going through similar struggles! My DH is trying to be all hands on dad which I love but he's just not quite there yet when wee man is creating! He wasn't coping with the screaming crying last night and looked like he was about to lose it!

dollydaydream84 · 27/07/2016 18:27

Just a quick reply socks but when we fully formula fed dd1 by 8 months her poos were awful they referred us for allergies but before we got there she had her 1 year birthday and moved to cows milk, totally solved the problem. Their digestive systems are rubbish with change! Hope your gradual weaning goes ok x

Sophiesausage · 27/07/2016 20:44

Indians that would be a great idea, until today I was still horribly anxious over every little decision regarding dd. Midwife suggested I go to a breastfeeding group just to mix with other mums and I left this afternoon feeling like a different person!

My mum keeps saying that when I was born women stayed in hospital for 3-5 days to get used to looking after baby, I know nhs is stretched but this could be such a help to new mums!

I properly lost it with dh this evening, to the point of threatening to take the baby and go stay at mum and dads for a while. I think that's made him put things in perspective... We shall see if it lasts.
He got home from work, said hello, helped give the bath then fucked off to his bloody computer for the rest of the evening.

Cookiesandcoffee · 27/07/2016 22:15

Yes indians I'm totally with you on this one!! I get these kind of comments constantly from DH. Baby doesn't like me , he only likes you, I can't do anything for him, he won't settle for me... You would think this was his 1st Hmm

I don't really do many baby group type things but I think I might investigate a BF group also.. Something definitely doesn't seem right with latching, and it's come from no where. Been watching YouTube videos this afternoon but quite frankly just made me feel worse. I think it could be wind related.. Have any other BF mamas had wind issues??

Sorry for the negative post. On a positive side I attempted a second run and ran for over a mile. It was only laps of our block (so I could be really really close to home) but felt really good. I think not exercising for over a month now has got me down.

We're having wind issues! On the whole, I think bf is going ok - certainly better than with DD. They both have slight tongue-tie but whether DS is better at feeding because he wasn't early, or less of a tongue-tie, or if it's just that I'm more practised I dunno. However, he's often really snacky and has stupid 6min feeds and then falls asleep and then screams with wind and then wants more boob within the hour and it's really exhausting! It's not all the time, he was pretty settled today but I have to resort to Infacol in the evening. Seem to have problems with latch slipping. But not always. Obvs that doesn't help with the wind issue as he's there, wheezing and whistling away on me!
I can't believe you guys are RUNNING already! Crazy kids! I managed a brief solo trip to Waitrose this evening and that felt strenuous enough for now!
Had HV round today, he's gained weight since his day 5 weigh-in so I'm not too concerned. And DD is 91st centile for weight...she was always such a tiny thing but now she seems absolutely massive. I still think she's my baby. IT'S ALL GOING TOO FAST!!!
Like the commune plan - men can be dicks. Although I can't lie, mine is chuffing amazing. My desire today to throw things and do a runner(!) had nothing to do with him, more hormones and feeling like I'd sat on my arse all day doing nothing. I'm aware I don't want to waste any precious paternity leave time but today I really didn't make the most of it and I'm pissed off! Although I am resting my chin on a squishy baby as I type this so its not all bad Smile

primarynoodle · 28/07/2016 08:58

indians I am soooo with you on the bloody stupid comments!!!! My mum seems to think her 20+ year old 'advice' (based on the fact she had a child as opposed to advice from qualified midwives) is wanted Hmm; mil is constantly bitching that dd doesn't know her yet so I need to let her spend more time with her Hmm; and dp is increasingly sulky about breastfeeding as she clusters feeds in the evening and only the Boob settles her (which mil is now using as a stick to beat me with) AngryAngryAngryAngryAngryAngry

I LOVE this thread and you lot - but I agree a commune where we can all hibernate together until they get a grip would be excellent!!

Also indians when are u planning on getting hitched? We've been engaged for 2 years and thinking about next summer but even with a chilled, low key wedding I'm not sure I can be arsed to plan it! Blush I've still got half a stone of weight to lose too :/

So much admiration for those of you running! I try to do at least a 45 min walk with the pram every day but it takes serious effort (I do live in a very hilly area though)

OP posts:
primarynoodle · 28/07/2016 08:59

dats I really struggle to wind dd but lying her face down on my chest for 5-10 mins then holding her over my shoulder or the tiger in the tree pose seem to work ok for her... Praying we don't develop wind issues though!!!

OP posts:
socktastic · 28/07/2016 09:29

Ooh what's the tiger in the tree position? Always looking for new ways to get burps from my wee guy! He's had a grizzly morning so far. He was a star last night, until about 5am when we got grunting baby. He's so loud! I invested in earplugs but don't feel right wearing them!

dats · 28/07/2016 09:30

primary half a stone! I have half a tonne! Grin
