Thought I had better start a new thread as the old one was about to crash

Happy 30th B'Day kbaby Wish I was 30 again but then I suppose I wouldn't even be married let alone have a house to live in or my 2 precious children. Whoops-going all sentimental now, better go!

Taking DD1 to her dance class Christmas Party so got some sarnies to be getting on with.

Happy Sunday

Morning all

Welcome, welcome to soph28-the more the merrier Sophie sort of likes it on her tummy but tends to moan after a few mins. Being on her tummy tends to bring sick up so try and avoid at all costs so when she falls over when sitting I quickly sit her up again. My mum says to leave her on her tummy as that is how they learn-but hey, mummy (me ) knows best!

Just had FIL pop round to collect a tile cutter-he only opened his mouth for 10 seconds and a stream of bizarre words about me and DH came out. Needless to say, I didn't invite him in!

Have been a domestic goddess this morning as taken DD1 to nursery and made spaghetti bolognaise. 'Tis all pointed up-just need to weigh and point up the spaghetti. Am going to be soooooooo thin

pink-are you still buggyless?

Very wet and windy here in Lincolnshire. Just what I need after having my hair done-doh!

Right, must get on. Have a good day ladies.

Hello, and welcome Lysette and soph28. My Thomas was born on 18th too - a virtual twin! (And I've got a Sophie too, assuming that's your name).

Thomas isn't doing much either... he sits happily in his Bumbo but keels over after a couple of seconds if I sit him on the floor. As for lying on his tummy - he only lasts a couple of minutes before sicking up (glad he's not alone HC ), headbutting the floor and whining, poor boy.

Am I the only one who hasn't started weaning yet? A friend has just started the baby-led approach and raves about it, so I'm wondering - anyone tried/trying it?

soph28 · 11/01/2007 11:50

i'd like to try baby led but no nothing about it. Chloe sits in her bumbo too but the same on the floor- keels over!

kamikayzed- I think that Chloe has the same problem as Roshi. I began to have more and more problems bresatfeeding i.e. she was fine when my milk cam quickly but she just didn't seem to want to suck after that, as a result she had a lot of wind from only getting foremilk and gulping air, my milk supply decreased, she wanted to feed regularly and wouldn't take a bottle. I persevered for 5 months but then transferred to bottle and she is now MUCH happier and content. However I had a good look at her tongue today and it does seem to be attached at both sides, she never sticks it out and most of the noises she makes are like a high pitched, open mouthed squeal.
Does that sound like it might be the same?

Will take her to HV tomorrow.

Ceebee74 · 11/01/2007 12:20

French - I have not started weaning yet either - had a couple of false starts but now decided to leave it until Josh shows signs of wanting solids - am starting to get concerned cos my mum keeps telling me the longer I leave it, the harder it will be to do - is this true anyone??

I think Wallace on this thread has done BLW with great success - am sure she will be along soon to help.

Just back from picking Josh up from nursery - went well again so I should stop worrying really! I managed 2 hours at the gym aswell (am I a bad mother cos I am starting to think this 'settling in' stuff is great and not really feeling too guilty as I get to go to they gym??)

HC - can I join you in a virtual WW club?? Are you attending meetings or doing it yourself? I am just doing it at home (I have the slider thing to point foods etc) - made a good start and lost 4lbs in first week (only another 38lbs to go.......)

Fizz - forgot to ask you before - how is the six-pack coming along ?

HumphreysCorner · 11/01/2007 12:37

Ceebee-you absolutely can join me doing WW. I am an extremely lapsed Gold Member was 8st 4lb now 11st 5lb . Am getting weighed every Moday night at mum and dad's so can report weight loss every Tuesday. Cannot afford to attend classes but should be an expert at doing it by myself-luckily have a journal, database and bonus buddy Mum and dad are doing it too due to mum's recent diagnosis of type 2 sugar diabetes. Soooo, looking to shift 33lb . Well done for your 4lb loss.

Got to get DD1 from nursery-late as usual!

I started weaning Fizzette at 5 months . She was waking at night for feeds after sleeping through, and eyeing up anything I ate.

Now has unbelievable appetite, just keep shovelling it in to her like a black hole!. She really loves her grub.

Have tried a few finger foods, but she seems to choke on them, even really soft ones. Anybody on here managed with them yet?

soph28 · 11/01/2007 15:42

i need to lose a stone and a half but a stone would do! i go indoor rock climbing once a week which is great for toning arms/back and boobs but rubbish for losing weight. find it so hard to exercise as we have something on almost every week night and no one to babysit.

Twinklemegan · 11/01/2007 19:44

Hi everyone and welcome Soph and Lysettes.

I think Aidan must be making up for lost time with his food after going off everything. He's drinking about 32 oz of milk a day (after saying he was on four feeds, he's now definitely on five), and having two small meals of solids a day. I've upped the lunchtime one to 3 cubes of puree and the teatime one to fruit plus 3 tsps of baby rice and he still polishes it off everytime. This mightn't seem that much, but when he was ill I was struggling to get 20oz of milk down him a day. Hopefully this'll show through in his weight gain.

Soph - gawd I hope your LO hasn't got tongue tie too. That'd make three of us on this thread - all undiagnosed until now. But like KZ said it's not the end of the world - I keep reminding myself there are much worse things he could have. You know, I really have no idea why I didn't realise before coz he never lifts his tongue up from the bottom of his mouth. I suppose with him being my first I didn't know what a baby's tongue should do.

Tried Aidan with finger foods. He chews on them for a bit then drops them. I think I've made the bits too small and hard for him to hold. Thank god he hasn't choked yet though. I've tried cooked carrot and raw pear so far - both nice and soft.

Must go and dish up dinner now. Byeeee!

Wallace · 11/01/2007 20:04

Welcome soph and lisette

I am doing baby led weaning and it is basically finger food.

Here are photos of Leo enjoying
brocolli and fish
and
after dinner cigar looking very sleepy

Wallace · 11/01/2007 20:05

Sorry I meant Lysettes

ImpyChica · 11/01/2007 20:06

Hi and welcome new peeps! I'm a relative newbie too. Really wish I'd know about MN before - it's such a fantastic support and resource. It was quite lonely/isolated giving birth in Madrid, they do things quite differently here.... but anyway - least I've found you all now!

Sorry to those of you struggling with sleep. It is hard-going. Ryan wakes up at least once in the night, but usually goes straight back to sleep after bf. When he's ill he's often awake every two hours or so. Painful. But generally we got him into a routine of bath, feed in darkened room, in cot by 7ish - bit of controlled crying initially but only a couple of days, by two months old. I found it harder to get him to sleep in his room during the day - but once I put dark blinds up on the window, it seemed to do the trick.

Weaning is a slow process. I'm celiac and am worried about introducing gluten into his diet - so we're not rushing anything.

Talking of diets. Good luck to all you going for weight loss! Impressed with those getting back into exercise too. I suppose I walk loads - we don't have a car and I generally take Ry out in his pushchair twice a day. I need to get back swimming to strenghten my back (I've got scoliosis, which gives me a bit of jip - especially having to lump a big boy around....!)

So you're a Yellow Belly too, HC?! I grew up just outside Lincoln...

Gorgeous pix as always, everyone. We've sporned a right bunch of heart-breakers!

Hugs, ImpyChica

HumphreysCorner · 11/01/2007 20:30

Impy-am about 30 miles from Lincoln. My brother lives just outside Lincoln-small world

Wallace-glad the BLW is going well and Leo is really lovely. I had never heard of this method so looked it up on the net-nice and messy

DD1 hates me again!

Exercise, now there's a thing. I'm very impressed with you all going to the gym and swimming and walking everywhere. I am soooo unfit it's shameful, and instead of an exercise plan, all I can come up with excuses. I'd love to walk more, do Pilates or a dance class but, but but...

Wallace - I'm inspired now, have spent the afternoon reading up on BLW. What do you give Leo when you're having something he can't eat yet, like rice, peas etc?

HC - Why does your DD hate you?

Aww - thanks KZ . I'd have said more like a mouthy cow myself! But I just can't let people get away with making those of us who find bf really difficult feel guilty. I don't think they always realise how it comes across. Not that you have anything at all to feel bad for - I'm full of admiration for you managing to express for all that time. I did it for several weeks but it took so long just to get enough for one feed . And you're right - I'll be much better prepared next time. I'm finding myself wanting another one just so I can (hopefully) have a better bf experience.

HumphreysCorner · 11/01/2007 22:05

kayzed-Sophie has a Heinz Stage 1 tin of breakfast cereal for breakfast. A Stage 1 tin of main course and a tin of dessert or 1 Petit Filous for lunch and the same for tea. Started off on half tins but it wasn't enough. I love to see and hear the uh, uh, uh and kicking of her feet when she sees me opening tins. She will be 7 months on the 27th so will be introducing weetabix and toast and more of my mashed food. Will be persevering as she pulls faces if I give her pureed food with a slight lump in it and spits it out. Just wish she would have more milk though.

Impy-what a poser! Brill pics.

french-DD1 says I don't like you at least once a day because I tell her off. She only likes Daddy apparently (only because he lives at work so she hardly sees him). Anyway, because of what she said DH told me to come up and put her to bed with him which wound her up. So the more she protested and hated me the more I insisted that I put her to bed and read her a story. She kept up the protest so DH went downstairs and I calmly read to her and kissed her goodnight much to her disgust. We are going to try this tactic every night until she realises she can't be horrible to me and get away with it let alone her own way

Was talking to my friend this afternoon whose DS2 is 10.5 months and she is still up several times a night with him

Am waffling so better go. Really do need an early night. Oh, and mother and baby swim class starts again tomorrow

Evening all!
Welcome Lysettes, Soph, Fizz, babybore!

Ceebee.. how fab that you can go to the gym. i dont think you should feel bad about nursery. When William starts at nursery i think I'll stay part time for a while to do the same thing! About the cot thing.. go for it and dont be tempted to give in! The first couple of nights i found strange and William tried it on with a little cry, but I didnt pick him up and only went into his room once to check he was ok. (I did spend most of the night outside his door with my ear pressed to it though!) I found he slept better in a grobag and with the door nearly closed and a landing light on. I dont use a speakery thing... i bought one but never got round to using it and basically when William wakes up the whole house knows about it anyway! He goes through the whole night in his own room. I think you'll enjoy the change. good luck!

Tried William with cauliflour cheese yesterday and he hated it! Think the cheese was too much for him. He likes chicken though and leeks! I've tried him with sticks of apple and toast, which seems to help with the teething, but i really painic if he bites off a chunk!!

HC... lovely pic. Who does Sophie take after?

Wallace... I laughed so much at the cigar piccy... genius caption! What a cutie. he pulls the same faces as William!

Impy... gorgeous pics. Wish I knew how to put pics on. I've got one of William looking like Victor meldrew, having his christmas dinner. He was slumped in his highchair with a party hat on looking very unamused, while i was grinning like an idiot next to him!

Is there a ww thread you're all going on? I need to lose about a stone. I've enlisted the help of a fitness advisor in work who told me i need to run six times a week to lose weight! Its so realistic! Not. I could probably manage to run to the fridge if there was something tasty in there, but its just filled with mashed pear and teethers at the moment.

kayzed, do you have an appt yet for Roshi's tongue tie. Since Williams was done, his ongue has changed shape and now looks more pointed. Keep us posted.

Right, better get off to bed... DH is looking after William tomorrow so will need all bottles ready etc!!!

kbaby · 11/01/2007 22:41

I had an ultrasound today as I found a lump in my boob. Luckily it?s a ?lazy? milk gland that isn?t emptying and will go on its own accord. Very strange though to see your milk glands and milk on an ultrasound.
Frenchleave ?DS has the dummy to fall asleep but then once asleep he wont take it. At the moment im trying to remove my nipple and put the dummy in but hes not having any of it. Also not really started weaning yet as ds wont openhis mouth, ive been thinking about bwl also. Seems too easy though.
Ceebee74- DS is the same with having something on his face so I now put him on his side an give him a tshirt or comforter to go to sleep with in his cot. Also I have been told by friends with babies in nursery that their lo actually settled better due to the noise and it was the nursery who taught them how to go to sleep on their own, mainly because they don?t have the time to cuddle to sleep.

IamBlossom- What a lovely post you did on Wednesday It made me feel very proud of kayzed. Are you our next prime minister?
Twinklemegan- Ds was 13lbs 6 at 20 weeks so must only be 14lbs by now. He does have huge hamster like cheeks though.
Kayzed- Dh is making me try to settle him in his own room so he woke at 12 as normal and went back to sleep after a feed but then at 3am and 4 attempts and 2 hrs of feeding/sleeping /laying down I gave up and took him to bed. He did sleep without my boob mind.

Willnbel · 11/01/2007 22:43

HC just seen your last post.. Are you supposed to wait til 7 mts for weetabix? Ive been giving it to William for brekkie with formula milk and some mashed banana for flavour. He has a whole one. Doesnt seem to have upset him, but am I supposed to wait til seven months? Bit worried. Also when you give Sophie her tea do you always do a desert too? I've cut out Williams lunch milk and like you do main meal and a desert, but for tea i just do one meal and milk. I give him homemade for lunch with petit filous and jar for tea!!

Willnbel · 11/01/2007 22:49

One last thought...
Can anyone else gather the skin on their tummy like crepe paper? Its my party piece!
