Thought I had better start a new thread as the old one was about to crash

Happy 30th B'Day kbaby Wish I was 30 again but then I suppose I wouldn't even be married let alone have a house to live in or my 2 precious children. Whoops-going all sentimental now, better go!

Taking DD1 to her dance class Christmas Party so got some sarnies to be getting on with.

Happy Sunday

Pink - jazz's eating sounds good, sounds like she's getting the hang of it. With DS I just give him a taste of something at lunchtime when I'm eating. He mostly just plays with stuff, but occasionally stuff goes down - nappies have bits in and a bit stinkier generally (sorry if TMI). He's still more interested in boob, managing solid food is obviously a bit too much like hard work for the lazy boy.

Horrific night last night, not much sleep all round, surely I'm due a good one tonight as an early birthday pressie?

mistypeaks · 19/02/2007 13:32

hi
well you seem to have a very active, hungry bunch. dd2 is so unlike her sister. Eats little and often, happy to sit for ages and play. rolls over tries to crawl (she hasn't worked out to move her arms tho so mashes her face into the carpet!!). I don't think i should have had 2 children tho, i feel as tho i'm really failing everybody miserably. oh well i'll keep plodding on regardless.

skay · 19/02/2007 14:12

Pink - Which porridge are you giving Jazz?
And by the way Honey causes Botulisim(sp?) But that depends on how much you give. A little drizzle should be fine.

usandnosleep · 19/02/2007 17:32

Sending you sleep vibes for tonight Mae

Misty I'm sure that's not true, I feel like life is a juggling act with just one child.

Skay- a non ditsy person who knows what dhe is talking about!

Well a crap day here, had Zack weighed and he has lost weight I'm starting to get worried now. He has been eating and eating how could he have lost weight? I know he has started crawling and I didn't think he would have gained but he really shouldn't have lost.

Ceebee74 · 19/02/2007 17:53

Us - if it makes you feel better, I took Josh to be weighed today - he remained exactly the same as he was 3 weeks ago - as both Zack and Josh are crawling, maybe there is something in that. The HV wasn't concerned about it and said herself that it is probably because he was crawling. Although Josh isn't eating that much, he is having approx 30oz of milk a day so plenty really.

A slight breakthrough on the eating - he had 1/2 jar of savoury stuff followed by 1/2 jar of pudding this afternoon - wow!! He was actually willingly opening his mouth for the pudding which is very unusual!

Plus, he seems to be struggling to make it from his first bottle in the morning (usually 7.30ish) to lunch (4 hours later) even though he is drinking all of his 9oz bottle so I think I might introduce brekkie tomorrow - this is such a change from last week!! So much so that I had actually given away a load of breakfast-type jars I had been given that were due to go out of date at the end of Feb as he was showing absolutely no signs of needing it

Does anyone here know about peanut butter & babies - is it ok to give to Josh (there is no history of allergies) - I started a thread but didn't really get any definite replies and the HV admitted she didn't know - helpful!!

Bloss - Toby is yummy!!

will try and catch up on the other posts asap

IamBlossom · 19/02/2007 19:00

Misty honey I am sure that is not the case at all. What is making you feel like this? Don't keep plodding on without addressing why you feel so low right now, tell us what you are thinking, we can help.... xx

Sending you sleep vibes Mae.

Pink your poor DH, what a freak accident, I bet he played up to it big time and made you feel really guilty!!

US, I'm sure it's nothing to worry about, weight will fluctuate at this age, I guess. Don't stress too much, see what happens when he next gets weighed..

CeeBee great news about eating more, maybe your LO is getting the hang of it??

Thanks about all comments re Toby, he does give the best ever cuddles Going to get him weighed on Thurday just in case I have the next Jeff Capes in the making...

To whoever asked (can't remenber) DS1 is 2.5.

F@F what a poo if it is dairy intolerance. Does seem to be pointing that way though doesn't it....??Finally finished my Christmas book today (Devil wears Prada) and only cos DS1 is in nursery still on Monday mornings, I am dreading him not going anymore at the end of Feb.....can now get cracking on my MN Book Club book...

Found out today another friend is 3 months gone, she lives in bath so I rarely see her. She has been sick as a dog for 8 weeks, really really really poorly poor thing and is a veterinary nurse so really struggling at work. her two male bosses, who are single with no kids are being blisteringly unsympathetic, what a nightmare!!

Night all.

Bloss

FirstAtForty · 19/02/2007 19:14

Ceebee - re the peanut butter my doctor said that she wouldn't give peanut butter till they are older (about 2yrs ( think she said) - it was the only allergy thing she had a definite opinion on!

Will do a proper post later - lots to catch up on!

Wallace · 19/02/2007 19:18

kayzed - how cute! any more "wower"s yet ?

F@F - lol at your isketch atttept, I was like that at first, but now I am an old hand, part of the "isketch elite" lol

Bloss - Toby has a bum just like Leo's - see! They are both perfect.

Ceebee - well done on the weight loss, you must have much more will power than I do. Don't know about peanut better either.

Re the nighttime nappies etc (lol at the 2kg KZ!) both of mine had been dry in the day for alomost a year before they were out of nappies at night, I was too scared to let them not wear nappies at night - they both had dry nappies in the morning for months!

prettymum - had to giggle at you having a bath with a book - I love to do that. Do you have a cup of tea and something to eat too?

pinkdolly - I'll try that on my dh - scratch his eyes out if he hogs the bed

misty - hugs, it is hard work isn't it. I'm sure you are doing a better job than you think you are.

us - I think Zack's weight must be to do with him crawling, dom't worry

Leo is alot better, thanks. He is still wheezing on and off, so we are off to the doctor tomorrow just to let them know he is wheezing again so they can keep track of it iyswim

He was so cute the other day - he fed my sister some of his biscuit! Also today the dog was chewing a bone thing near Leo, next time I looked Leo was chewing it Luckily I'm laid back about germs.

Ceebee74 · 19/02/2007 19:35

Wallace - lol at Leo eating the dog biscuit! He is such a yummy little boy aswell.

Misty - things always look worse from the inside - I am sure you are doing a great job

Re iSketch - I started playing right at the beginning but I made such a boob one night a few weeks ago, I haven't dare go back! The word was 'canyon' and I misread it and started drawing a 'cannon' - and wondered why no-one was getting it right I skulked out and have not returned.....plus it is SO addictive!

Wallace · 19/02/2007 19:55

lol ceebee about the isketch - I did the same sort of thing. Somebody skipped the word they were doing. I saw it said "raisin" so started to do a drawing of raisins, then I realised my word was battle. I disappeared v quickly!

Beadmum · 19/02/2007 20:02

Evening ladies

ceebee - my weaning booklet that i got from hv says peanut butter is ok from 6 months if no family history of allergies, just no peanuts til 5 years due to choking hazard

pink - your poor dh, sounded nasty. im sure he'll cringe every time he hears the saying 'scratch your eyes out'

kosh, bloss and wallace - lovely pics, what gorgeous babies on this thread

us - i remember my hv telling me dd's weight might go down/stay the same once she was more active as she would be burning more calories, dont worry too much, im sure you'll notice a difference next time hes weighed

misty - dont feel down, im sure your doing a great job. i sometimes feel i can just about manage with the one

twinkle - charlotte is the same as aidan re sitting, for the last few days she has been sitting really well and doesnt seem to topple over as much. wouldnt risk it without cushions yet though as she likes to throw herself back quite suddenly

skay - kavya sounds like shes doing great

kbaby - glad ds is better, i sometimes feel broody when i see newborn babies too but then i give myself a shake

wallace - good to hear leo is better too, at him with the dogbone

all is good here, went to our first baby signing class today and charlotte loved it. weaning is still going ok but realised if dd isnt wanting something she will definitely let me know , raspberry blowing while feeding is driving me nuts though

been doing well on my diet, started 2 weeks ago and have lost 6lbs so well chuffed with myself

oops just noticed the time, dh home from work soon so better get on with the tea, have a good night all xx

usandnosleep · 19/02/2007 21:09

Thanks for the reassurance everyone. I really have been trying not to worry, we have had to go to the clinic every 2 weeks for quite a while because there have been concerns over his weight gain.
I was so upset today I couldn't get out of there fast enough! We are going to the GP on Wednesday to chat to him about it. He is now in the shaded area on the charts and has dropped 3 centiles.
I don't know what else I can do, everything the HV suggests we are already doing. I think I'm going to try and wean him onto the bottle again, it has always ended in disaster before but it's worth a go.
I just don't trust my body anymore, I really don't think I'm producing enough milk. When I feed him he has to suck for a couple of minutes before any milk comes through and he refuses completely to feed from the right breast (you should see my norks they look like a pair of balloons but one has been popped and deflated!)

Off to watch Bad Mothers Handbook
Catch up tomorrow.

maewest · 20/02/2007 07:58

usandnosleep {{hugs}} You're doing a fantastic job, please don't doubt yourself. Do you have any kind of bf support group near you? Might help to talk to other mums who have been thtough the same sort of thing.

pinkdolly · 20/02/2007 08:12

Skay botu- what!

Opps, better google it. needless to say she had Jam with her porridge this morning (I never heard about the honey thing).
I always have porridge oats in for the girls to make flapjacks with, so I just used some of them. It's only a bag from iceland, so no baby brand. She seems to really like them.

Us, Big hugs, dont worry about too much. I am sure he will be fine. If it helps Jazz doesnt even know what the chart looks like as she fell off completly a couple of months ago. Let us know how it goes at the docs.

I cant believe I missed Bad mothers handbook, I read it a while back and really enjoyed it.

Dh's eye is fine now. Tho all at his work think i'm some husband basher, lol.

Ok, well have a good day guys.

AnnieOleTing · 20/02/2007 16:55

Hi Everyone,
Hope you all had a nice weekend!
Happy Birthday Maewest!! Hope you are enjoying your day.

HC hope you are feeling better.

Lovely pics, of Toby and Leo! I wonder will they ever find out that their mum's posted nude pictures of them on the internet!!!
Usandnosleep, I'm sure his weight is fine, just down to his crawling. I had the same with DS when he was 8 months, the HV got all worried that he was losing weight. He's grand.

Pink, to do a kz: botulism is a toxin produced by Clostridium botulinum, and it can grow mainly in containers such as tins, as it needs an anaerobic environment to sporulate, it's VERY RARE though. If your tin, or whatever, of honey is bulging before you open it, then don't use it. I've read as well that you're not supposed to give honey before 1 year, but another doctor (an older one) advised me to give K honey as it has anti-bacterial qualities. So it all depends who you listen to. It's the same thing that they make botox from too, so make what you like of that! I wouldn't worry too much about giving Jazz honey in small amounts.
Signed Dr Annie McKeith (not really a doctor)

KZ your Roshi is so cute 'wower'!!

MIsty, please don't put yourself down, you are doing the hardest job in the world, and we all feel like that sometimes. Where would you be without your two beautiful children? This hard patch will pass, and the rewards are wonderful.

Skay, wow, cruising already!! And Koshka, you have a crawler! I hope you found him behind the TV!!

Kayley has taken to chewing on my nose...
She's ALMOST crawling, she sits there, and leans forward to get something, usually DS's train or somthing, and gets onto her front, and wiggles. She gets places, but not quite on all fours yet. Any day now. Then we'll be in big trouble!!

Righto, time to catch that train home

Hi Girls

Happy Birthday Mae ? hope you got some sleep last night and are having a suitably festive day!

Bloss and Wallace ? Toby and Leo look scrummy, and very happy and healthy

Pink ? Jaz?s meal timetable looks good to me - if she?s eating a good variety of food three times a day plus bf she has a good base to build on if she needs to. Hope your DH is better now, how traumatic for you all!

Usandnosleep ? {{{hugs}}} it?s so difficult isn?t it, those bloody weigh ins.. How is he in himself? I?m sure he?s fine, but I know hard not to worry. Do you think it would it be worth seeing a bf counsellor, sounds difficult if he will only feed from one side? Slow let down is something they should be able to help with and it might possibly improve things all round. Not sure what else to suggest, but hope you find something that helps soon xxx

Well I was wrong about the sickness having stopped, Emma?s puking carried on till last night, she's off her food a bit too. HV came today, she is 13lbs 5 right on the bottom border of the shaded bit. Got to take her to the doc on Friday for a referral to a dietician. I asked about allergy testing but the HV was very vague and said I should speak to the dietician about it. I?ve been reading up, her symptoms seem to fit dairy hypersensitivity best rather than lactose intolerance or a full-on allergy, since the main symptom is delayed vomiting. I?m trying to put together some details for the doc - my previous posts on here are a really useful diary of what happened when, so MN comes up trumps again!

Well better get on, have good nights all xx

maewest · 20/02/2007 20:56

Evening all - have been having a lovely birthday . DS only woke up at midnigt for a quick feed last night, so had decent kip (thanks babe!). Went to an NCT open house this morning, my first one, and all nice mums. Then DS conveniently snoozed in the buggy on the way home and stayed asleep long enough for me to make my lunch. DH came home early from work and took DS out for an hour late afternoon while I had a long hot bath with a book and a nice cuppa. He then cooked me a fab chicken korma, completely stuffed now. Am now off to watch Life on Mars...

Ceebee74 · 20/02/2007 21:13

Happy Birthday Mae - hope you are having a good one

F@F - poor Emma - hope she improves soon and you get some answers from the doctors.

Have a good night everyone

kbaby · 20/02/2007 22:00

Bloss- I don?t think Toby looks at all fat. He looks gorgeously chubby. Continue to feed him as you are as hes obv doing fine.

Ds woke every hr last night and hes not even hungry. When will his sleeping ever settle down. Ive been putting him to bed awake this week which hes not happy about but just grizzles but at night only cuddling will do the trick. He has also started doing the most awfull cry. He cries and then screams really loud. It sounds the way they scream when they have theyre injections. My Dad says its like a pressure cooker going off, its so loud and ear pericing. He still not keen on milk, this morning I gave him milk and assumed he wasn?t hungry as he didn?t want it and thought id still try porridge as I had made it, well he ate the whole lot. It just goes to show hes not interested in milk but does want food.
His day is like this
7.30am ? Attempt at 5ozs milk(may have 0-2ozs)
8am- 1 tbsp porridge
12pm- 3-4tbsp/5ice cubes of savory
12.30- attempt at 5 ozs milk(generally 0 milk)
3pm- 6 ozs milk(normaly drinks )
6pm- pot of organix fruit purres
7.30 ? 5 ozs milk
2am- 5 ozs milk

Prettymum- pottytraining DD was easier than I thought. I just put her in knickers told her what to do and after 1 day she was fine. We still have the occasional accident but only once a week I guess.

Kayzed- Just what I needed back to reality now. I just hope I can keep the broody feeling at bay
Pinkdolly- Your poor DH I bet you wont hear the end of it.
Us- How much does Zack weigh? DS is only 16lbs 11ozs at 28 weeks. I heard that theyre weight does sometimes go down when they start solids as Milk has far more calories than the food were giving. Try not too worry too much.
Wallace- Happy Birthday- Those big juicy thighs, perfect for blowing raspberries on.

Lysettes · 20/02/2007 22:22

mae happy birthday from lake taupo! hope you had a lovely one

pretty was it you thinking of changing broadband? just had a v quick scan through posts - we are with BE unlimited and we have had no problems.

F@F hope you get some answers from the doc and dietician - there are lots of low lactose formulas out there as well as soya and goats so it may be manageable (can't remember if you are bottle or bf ing sorry)

just sitting in internet cafe so have to go but hope everyone is ok and i'm not weighing myself as am feeling v lardy at the moment - good holiday eating and no exercise does not me a slim girl make

lol

ps jacob nearly crawling although when his bum fgoes up his head goes into the mat! hasn't quite got it yet..

usandnosleep · 21/02/2007 07:22

Quick post to say thank you for your comforting words
Off to the docs in a couple of hours, DP is coming too although I'm not sure if this is a good idea now because I have a horrible feeling the doc is really going to push moving Zack onto formula. That seems to be everyones answer to everything!
As I have said before I'm not against Zack having formula it's just so bloody stressful trying to get him to take it. My approach is offer and if he refuses then just try again later but DP is a more stubborn

Zack is 15lbs at 31 weeks Kbaby.

HC I checked and all the dots are correct worth checking though as our health 'professionals' don't seem to know what they are doing half he time.

F@F, As you know Zack doesn't sleep well and he seems to be poorly alot but it doesn't seem to bother him he is very smiley and active.
Wallace mentioned a b/f counsellor too I think I'm going to try and find one. Do I contact my local NCT?
I really hope the dietician helps with Emma's allergies and weight gain, you're right it is a constant worry.

Glad you had a lovely birthday Maewest

Beadmum · 21/02/2007 09:31

happy belated birthday maewest, glad you had a good day.

us - hope everything goes ok at the docs

lysettes - good eating is what holidays are all about sounds like youre having a good time, so dedicated to mn coming on to post as well sounds like jacob will be crawling pretty soon, charlotte hates being on her tummy and moans after a few mins so dont think crawling will happen anytime soon in this house

kbaby - is that really 5 ice cubes of food? charlotte sometimes struggles to take 3 ice cubes sounds like ds is loving his food, hes not far off of the 18-20oz they recommend too so im sure hes fine. hope his sleeping improves soon though, you seem to have had an awful time with it

f@f - hope you dont have to wait too long to see a dietician, especially when the hv is no use hope emmas appetite is back soon, poor little mite

not much to report here, went to our rhyme time class yesterday but charlotte refused to have her nap before we went so she was so grumpy and i had to leave just as it was time for the mums to chat, typical baby, only thinking of themselves

have a good day all xx

usandnosleep · 21/02/2007 10:10

Back from docs and we saw a fantastic locum. She began by making a face when we said the HV had sent us

She checked Zack over and asked what we were feeding him. She DIDN'T suggest formula in fact she actively encouraged continuing with b/f. Yay! She suggested we up his calorie intake by offering lots of yummy puddings which I'm sure Zack will happily try!

The doc commented on how alert Zack is and said whilst his weight gain is a concern she is a bit worried about the number of colds and infectons he has had. So we are being referred to a paediatrician but she added that she would bet by the time his appointment comes round he will have put on weight and be absolutely fine.
Her thinking was it was better to request an appointment now and we have a couple of months to build Zack up and then waste the paeds time than wait a couple of months and for things not to improve and then have to wait for a paed appointment and all be very worried.

I feel much better and was really happy with the appointment

Zack is ready for a sleep so I'll pop back later x
