Thought I had better start a new thread as the old one was about to crash

Happy 30th B'Day kbaby Wish I was 30 again but then I suppose I wouldn't even be married let alone have a house to live in or my 2 precious children. Whoops-going all sentimental now, better go!

Taking DD1 to her dance class Christmas Party so got some sarnies to be getting on with.

Happy Sunday

Hi ladies, hope you're all doing well I thought I'd check back in with you all, its been about two and a half months since I last posted, scarey how time flies by! (Had to change my name back from my Xmas one!!)

We're doing quite well here. Amelia seems to be holding her weight at the 25% line, is still bf, likes her solids but has really only just started compared to a lot of your LO's as I waited until she was 6 months, still wakes at least twice a night for a feed and loves sitting and rolling but hasn't shown any interest in crawling yet.

DS has just started nursery and is loving it, its nice as it gives me a bit of one on one time with Amelia. He has his first disco this friday would you believe (at the grand old age of 3.4!) 3.45 - 5.15 pm after nursery!

Wont make this too much of an epic but I'm sure there's loads to fill you all in on from my MN absence. Will have to get organised and post an updated photo. Bye for now (hopefully I'll be back before a few months go by!)

jom · 21/02/2007 10:28

Dear Us,
Glad to hear you had a good doc, and have come away feeling more positive.

I too had been concerned about Amelias weight gain (which was by the way OK - just a HV putting dots in the wrong places!!) and another HV suggested a similar thing in offering as much solid food as possible and for example when giving porridge load it up with cream to try and boost her weight gain. I actually haven't done this as her weight gain turned out to be OK but I did increase the amount of food I give her. Am going to get her weighed tomorrow so it should be interesting as its the first time she's been weighed since she's really been on solids - last time she'd just started and wasn't having the quantity she is now.

madness · 21/02/2007 10:41

OK, just lost my previous post. Trying to catch up with all the postings and pics, as working mondays and tuesdays.
Poor dd still not settled in nursery, cries a lot and her eyes are all red when I pick her up. Still doesn't drink much, 2-3 oz during 9 hours, but she did eat half a fruitpot yesterday. (no idea what she weighs as avoiding hv!!).
Better start tidying up the battlefield livingroom

usandnosleep · 21/02/2007 10:43

Hi Jom Great to hear from you!
Zack still wakes every 3 hours through the night too occasionally more. Amelia sounds like she is doing great, and what is it with these HV and the inability to put dots in the right place
Hope your DS has a great boogie at his first disco

Ceebee74 · 21/02/2007 10:48

Us - great news from the doctors - it is always nice when you see a good one isn't it? Maybe I should give Josh loads of yummy puddings too then - just have it in the back of my mind about him getting a sweet tooth He is 31 weeks and weighs 18lbs 5.

My HV has got Josh's weight chart wrong so many times, it is completely covered in tippex.

HC - meant to say last night but was in a rush when I posted - about the weight gain but think of this week as a fresh start!

Must go and do some work - rather stay on here all day though

usandnosleep · 21/02/2007 10:52

Madness That sounds really stressful and worrying {{{hugs}}} What are the nursery saying , are they being very helpful and supportive?

KoshkaAndJake · 21/02/2007 23:01

Hello..

Have booked anew eyetest as have completely screwed my glasses up! Bad as i'm going to a leeds meetup so will have to wear them as I wont be able to see anything in the distance!

Have also booked a haircut (the first since i was 4 months PG) so I have no idea how i want my hair.

erm...jakes being saying dada all day but am trying to train him to say mama but it doesnot really work..grrr

Hes crawling all over the place and my mums house is not very baby friendly. the quicker we find somewhere to live the better..in my dreams!

Lysettes · 22/02/2007 03:40

us - so glad that your locum was so supportive. totally know what you mean about not knowing whether it's a good thing that dp comes along mine gets very worried about the smallest thing and often turns things like that into a huge drama

just a quick thought on weight gains - bear with me as it's a bit copmlicated for me to esplain

jacob was born 8 weeks early so on his weight charts is measured against corrected age (as his weight started at 32 weeks on the weight chart). against corrected age he's just over 50%. When you move that across to actual (or birth) age, he's on around 11%. We had him weighed in Wellington by the plunkett nurse, who are not just HV, they are fully trained paed nuses! In NZ they measure only against birth age, and he's on 25% against their charts, so doing much better than he is against his UK charts. They have recently amended the charts in NZ to try to guard against the "big baby" culture that existed here, so as someone else said, if your lo is happy and smily but is on the lower end of the UK charts, it's not the greatest thing to worry about! hope that didn't sound too patronising, wasn't meant to

see you all again soon - it's 28 degrees here!

off for nice glass of wine before supper xxx

pinkdolly · 22/02/2007 07:14

Morning ladies,

Us- Glad it went well with the doc's.

Madness- Sorry to hear that your lo is not settling in to nursery well. Give it time and everything will be fine.

Jom- Good to hear from you.

Koshka- Have also booked myself in for a haircut and colour, this afternoon actually. First time since I cant remember when. I'm actually going for like a deep/ dark red all over but with a bright pink underneath, so it shows through.

It sounds a bit darinng but have always wanted my hair pink and dh never let me. I actually found a picture of the cut I wanted and coloured it in and dh said he quite liked it. Am really looking forward to it.

Pretty- great news with the rolling. Jazz is so lazy. Still not sitting and although she can roll, she doesnt. Quite prepared to let the others bring her stuff.

Well thats all for now, will check in again later. Have a good day all!

Pavlovthecat · 22/02/2007 11:40

Hello all, am quite new to mumsnet, my DD was born on 1st July 06, can I join you loverly people?

Pavlovthecat · 22/02/2007 11:51

US - been reading your comments about weight gain with interest. My LO is 7 months 3 weeks, and weighs approx 15lb now. I was told by HV when she was about 26 weeks that she was 'failing to thrive' as she had dropped a smidge on the chart for a few weeks, although she was still higher than the line she was born at (bottom, is that the 25th centile?). I saw the Dr who said it was rubbish, she was fit and healthy and managing a stead weight.

I was also told by another HV that the chart is usually a bottle feeding chart, and there is a breastfeeding chart which would place a BF baby higher up, however, my HV said she could not get hold of any. So I bear that in mind when I get her weighed. I have been made to feel really quite like a bad mother for continueing with the BF, and have tried to top her up with formula as I was 'encouraged' to do, however DD wont take bottles very well. Even now I feel that it is my fault she wont gain weight, even though she is very very active, had three teeth, can pull herself up and take a step or two, sits and crawls everywhere, is always laughing...
Sorry for long message but wanted to say its good to hear I am not the only one, and that it sounds like your baby is putting on weight fine.

mistypeaks · 22/02/2007 13:06

thanks for the kind words girls. I feel a bit of a for being a party pooper when everyone else is trying to discuss sensible things so I've vowed to only post when I'm having a good day. I have no idea what my problem is lately its almost as if a big fog descends and nothing in this world is right. Things are the same as ever today - girls are normal (demanding but soooo cute and great), washing pile is huge, washing up pile is huge, ironing pile is huge, list of diy jobs to do is huge, bank balance is tiny . . . plus i found out my nan died this morning (not a sympathy vote I promise) and yet i'm calm. In fact i'd go as far as to say I don;t really care. I'll do what i can and what doesn't get done I'll pretend is not there (not the girls though!!!)
Anyway on the subject of weigh ins - Our HVs and nursery nurse are fantastic - they only offer advice if you want it (I think they'd step in if something was really wrong tho) however there was a locum HV when I went in once and she made some comment to one of the other moms - who looked really upset and worried (she was really young and looked quite scared anyway) I was in one of my fight the system rebellious moods so on our way out I made a very loud and quite rude comment to which the other mom looked quite amused and relieved. FGS her baby was really lively and very healthy looking. Anyway I haven't been back since - I'm probably barred anyway. Charts and numbers aren't that important (IMHO) If babies are happy and active and eating then what more can you want?

mistypeaks · 22/02/2007 13:08

Oh yes and hello and welcome to Pavlovthecat. They're a nice bunch here and will take goooood care of you!!

Pavlovthecat · 22/02/2007 13:15

Misty, sorry about your nan...

Pavlovthecat · 22/02/2007 13:15

...and sorry about the huge pile of everything apart from bank notes...

usandnosleep · 22/02/2007 13:32

Thanks Lysettes
Not patronising at all, thank you for the reassurance x
28 degrees

Pink- enjoy being pampered

Hi Pavlov You are more than welcome!
That failure to thrive label is gut-wrenching isn't it? I wouldn't call sitting, rolling, crawling, giggling etc 'failure to thrive' either
I was sooooo relieved when the doc saiid continue with b/f. The team of 4 or 5 at the clinic all said to switch to formula. I do feel guilty and feel like I'm doing something wrong as the milk provider and the HV's do nothing to help that.
Hopefully now we have been to the docs they will stay off my back for a while.
Nice to meet you!

Hooray for Misty at the clinic
Please don't stop posting when you're having a bad day, that's what we're here for. Sorry to hear about your nan {{hugs}}

mistypeaks · 22/02/2007 13:43

Pavlov & us(sorry to abbreviate your names - I am a lazy cow). Thanks for the support. I have too many bad days to burden you - and also can't see computer through all the tears anyway!!
So surprised at HVs recommending ff over bf!! I ff both girls from a few weeks old and I truly wish I could have continued bf but I sadly failed at that (common theme with me). Surely the HVs know better!!! I'll go see them with one of my withering remarks!!!

usandnosleep · 22/02/2007 13:49

Yes you go and see them Misty and I'll hide right behind you

Have you spoken to anyone about how you're feeling? It sounds like you're having a really tough time. xx

mistypeaks · 22/02/2007 13:59

Nah I'm more of a doer than a talker!! Besides my mom would not cope if she thought I was sad. My best friend 1 is trying desperatly for a baby (3 miscarriages) so I really think it would be cruel to talk to her. best friend 2 lives overseas and again she'd just worry and is too far away. DH is under so much stress at work and at home as it is he doesn't need a barmy wife on top of it all. I give him too much grief as it is - poor bunny.
I'll be ok. I've got mumsnet!!

Pavlovthecat · 22/02/2007 14:07

Misty, definitely keep talking to us lot. Glad I joined this thread, you all sound so supportive.

Can I tell you a little about myself?
I live in Devon, getting married to wonderful DP (mostly), our DD was born 1 July 2006 after a good labour, small at 5lbs. Had baby-weight trouble, work trouble, and 4 weeks ago my mum passed away after suffering from cancer, diagnosed whilst I was pregnant with my LO. My DD has helped me through the most trying of years, and I love her so much (if you read my I love my DD thread you will see this is true!!).
I have been BF since beginning, but topped up with FF for 4 weeks, stopped as she gained weight, and then struggled to get her to take bottle ever since! She is being weaned, loosely following the baby-led-weaning strand, very very independent, can stand up, take a couple of steps, and currently due to teething is sleeping like absolute cr*p!

Thats pretty much my story...

Ceebee74 · 22/02/2007 14:34

Welcome Pavlov - everyone is so lovely on this thread - please accept my condolences about your mum - what a tough time you must have had this year although I am sure your DD has made it a tiny bit easier.

Misty - about your nan too. I wouldn't worry too much about the washing, ironing etc - as long as your girls are happy and well, that is the most important thing.

Lysettes - am majorly of you in 27 degree temperatures - it is chucking it down here and has been all day - fantastic!!

Josh's eating has come on leaps and bounds over the last couple of days - he is now on 3 meals a day plus 1 dessert and is also downing between 25-30oz milk - it is such a change from the weekend when it was a struggle to get half a jar down him! I am also a bit as he had his first 'home-cooked' meal of cottage pie (which he wolfed down apparently) yesterday at nursery - apart from fruit/veg purees that I did at the beginning, I have been giving him jars. Really need to pull my finger out and get some meals in the freezer for him.

Ceebee74 · 22/02/2007 14:35

I always forget something!

Pink - your hair sound divine - please post a photo asap!!
