Happy 30th B'Day kbaby Wish I was 30 again but then I suppose I wouldn't even be married let alone have a house to live in or my 2 precious children. Whoops-going all sentimental now, better go!

Taking DD1 to her dance class Christmas Party so got some sarnies to be getting on with.

Happy Sunday

Twinklemegan · 28/01/2007 22:28

Hello all. Hope all the LOs with chest infections get better very soon.

HC - glad you enjoyed The Deep - had you been before? I used to live in Hull, then nr Driffield and I really miss the area

CakeAndFineWine - I sympathise on the work situation - I can't afford not to work full time either (Oh dear, two s in one post.)

Well Aidan's been a bit of a pain with his midday food the last couple of days - getting distracted by his bib, the removable highchair tray, harness, you name it. I think it's because I've been trying to go by the book and give him only half the bottle before his food now he's six months. DH and I were thinking about this and we realised that when he had the whole bottle first he usually had a break or a nap before the solids so effectively the solid food was a separate feed. So we've decided to give a mid-morning milk feed then a separate lunch, which is effectively what we were doing before anyway. Here's hoping it works.

God, I'm becoming such a weaning bore, but I just love it. Feel like I'm making up for the sh*te b-feeding attempts .

Have a good night everyone!

Ceebee74 · 29/01/2007 08:08

Morning ladies

Madness - hope it all goes well today - your DD might surprise you as far as the sleeping goes (is she going to nursery?).

Cake - sorry to hear that you are not enjoying work -hope it does improve for you soon

Twinkle - I have been giving Josh a full bottle before his food - mainly because I feed him his bottle on my lap and then put him in his highchair for his solids - and I can't be bothered getting him back out again!! They seem to do the same at nursery without me asking (ie give him all his bottle) so I am just going to carry on with that.

HC - Thanks for that info - it is really useful. I have been going off a guide on the slidy points calculator thing - it just says 12-14stone is 22 points (no mention of age, height etc) but I have calculated it using your info and it comes to 22 aswell - so 22 it is I guess! Like I said to DH yesterday, I can either not have my bottle of my wine over the weekends or drop some food somewhere - guess which I am going to do .

Have a good day everyone!

frenchleave · 29/01/2007 11:20

Hello all, hope you all had good weekends.

HC - how that Sophie is ill. Have you tried steam treatment? It's really effective for barking coughs. Run the shower or bath tap really hot, and sit in the bathroom for ten minutes or so with her when it's really steamy. I hope she's better soon.

T has got his second cold and is full of snot. Poor boy takes ages to get to sleep because he can't breathe with his dummy in!

Am in awe of all you working people. I still feel like I'm recovering from the birth , really not ready to put nose to grindstone!

Good days all round

pinkdolly · 29/01/2007 11:49

Hi all,

Sorry to hear we've still got poorly lo's on the thread. Sending hugs to you all.

Jazz had her 6 month check-up today, she weighs 12.7 at 28 weeks. So has officially dropped completly off the chart. I checked dd2's records and she was 12.13 at 19 weeks (but then she was quite round).

Agalch- The HV reprimanded me for still allowing Jazz to take night feeds at 6 months. "She really ought to be sleeping through the night by now, and in her own bed".
Lol- I didn't tell her that your lo's didn't sleep through the night for a while.

I figure that Jazz is tiny so her tummy is tiny, so she is probably still hungry, so i'll feed her.

She also wants me to make more of an effort re weaning. Jazz wasn't doing too bad with the BLW until she got the pox and a chest infec and now wont touch anything.

Other then that she is fine.

R any of the other b'f babies still waking at night?

HC- How is Sophie? Barking! It's not croup or is it whooping cough i'm thinking of. One of them makes a barking sound. I hope she is ok. And that you aren't too tired.

Congrats on all your weight loss efforts. I lost 2lbs this week. Not bad but I was expecting more for the first week.

Kbaby- Am so sorry to hear about your cat {hug}

Kz- Hope your still enjoying your hols.

Ok, am off to find some lunch for the girls, they are always hungry these days.

bye for now

maewest · 29/01/2007 11:55

Morning all, sorry to hear that the snots and wheezes are around again, must be the time of year.

Well, DS seems singularly unimpressed with purees and spoons, but pretty enthustiastic at gumming away by himself, so looks like we might be going down the BLW route. So far he has chomped on a pear and a banana, don't know how much went down, but spose that's the point really. Now his puke has bits in! Will try some type of veggie stuff tomorrow (DH did enjoy the pear puree tho, and polished off a whole pot ).

maewest · 29/01/2007 12:01

Hi pink - don't think solids would make much difference to your lo's weight at this point, think most of her calories still come from milk until she's about a year. My mum told me that her hv told her to get solids down me at 3 months (which she dutifully did as I was her first) as my weight gain was pretty static and she was bfing. It made no difference, and my weight gain picked up again when I was ready a few months later. I am now 5ft 9in and 11st, so didn't really affect my growth .

Also DS still wakes occassionally in the night, sometimes I can settle him without feeding but other times he seems hungry so I give him a quick feed and he goes straight back down. And he is a complete porker, so probably doesn't 'need' it, but it works for us. Better go, whinging has started...

usandnosleep · 29/01/2007 12:09

Hello all

Way behind again, I think I'm going to have to stop trying to keep up I'm fighting a losing battle!

Hope all poorly ones are better soon, it took Zack a couple of weeks and 2 lots of antibiotics to get better.

Pinkdolly, Zack is still waking 2-4 times a night for a feed and there is no way he could go all night without one. HV were put on this planet to make us worry I'm sure, I'm under orders to go to clinic today to check Zack's weight because they're worried. He is 14lb 4ozs at 28 weeks (7lb 9ozs at birth)

Weaning has slowed up again but Zack really enjoys breakfast so he is getting one good meal a day.

He has been teething on and off for weeks but there is no sign of anything, mind you it's impossible to get a good look!

Zack has been asleep for an hour and a half! He is still not really in any kind of routine, never know what he is going to do next!

I have just recieved an email from a friend who lives in the US, she is 33 weeks pregnant and complaining about lack of sleep! I remember it so well I wanted to add it's preperation for what is to come but she seems so down I didn't want to add to her worries and woes! Bless her, I wish she were closer.

He's awake! Chatting away to himself, think I'll go and surprise him.

Have a good day all

Madness, I really feel for you today ,your post made me blub, you sounded so upset. I hope everything is going ok and I'm sending you lots of {{{hugs}}}

AnnieOleTing · 29/01/2007 13:01

Hello All,

Hope all the babies are on the mend. It's so distressing when they're not well.

Kayley's weaning isn't doing much. She like to grab my toast or whatever I'm eating and gobble on that, but when I make something 'suitable' eg baby cereal or puree, she won't eat it. And she gags a lot as well. I'm sure she'll take it sooner or later.
She's sleeping a bit better, but always ends up in our bed still. This morning (about 4.30) I was awoken by her tugging at my hair... ah the joys! She still generally has a feed during the night too, though seems to be getting less so.
No idea what weight she is, I think around 15 lbs... just moved up to size 4 nappies, but only cos DH didn't check and bought the wrong size!!!

HC I hope Sophie is ok. If she's had her jabs, it shouldn't be whooping cough though. Hope she's better soon. Also your MIL sounds just like mine... GRRR!! With DS she'd cuddle him all the time even when asleep, and when he cried for food, keep on walking and rocking, and poor post-natal me cringed and bitched inside my head!! This time though she's busy playing with DS so I can keep Kayley to myself more. But I still bitch inside my head...

Jane, soz to hear you're not enjoying work. I miss my babies too when I'm here so I know how you;re feeling.

Bye for now

Annie

HumphreysCorner · 29/01/2007 13:42

Hello ladies

Annie-that is just how it is. Sooo much better that MIL has DD1 to occupy her. Sophie is still in size 3 nappies but they are getting a tad tight. I will be getting her weighed tomorrow but I suspect she must weigh more than 17lb now-she is catching up with the weight DD1 was at this age.

Twinkle-it was our first visit to The Deep. Must go again but not when Sophie is hungry as not able to concentrate on all the gadgets. Had to sit and BF her half way to keep her going-bless her.

Well, was up at 2-45am and 5-45am feeding her. As she is poorly I had to feed her, had she been well I would have tried to ignore her. At least she is seeing a Dr tomorrow for her 7 month check-up. She has gungey eyes and is off her food (as it is too lumpy methinks-did try liquidising it to make it smoother).

us-you and me both blubbed at madness's post. DH said 'now do you realise how lucky you are being married to me'. Not just a case of luck though, there are so many other factors involved in work related issues.

pink-my friend's little boy is 11 months and is up at least 4 times every night. Jazz is tiny and she will eat when she wants to as you and not the HV well know! 2 lb is a great loss-well done. Hope you haven't eaten too much lunch today

Going to have to shoot and get ready as I have my Smear Test at 2-30pm. Don't know if I can face seeing the Vicar about the Christening tonight but I suppose it would get it off my mind.

Byee for now.

Hi - just a very quick one from me as I'm officially working...!

Pink and UsandBump - just wanted to say I started a thread in Breast and Bottle feeding on weight gain as Emma's hanging on to the bottom pink centile by a thread now (has only just hit 13lbs at 28 weeks) and I was getting confused by what HV said (feed 3 full meals of solids) and what they generally say on the bf threads (feed mainly milk).

I'm still confused but thought it may be of some interest, and you're not alone! I'm trying not to worry too much about it as she does seem active and alert. I'm sure they will gain eventually, it's just really confusing knowing what's best to do!

Hi to everyone else - will post again later on xxx

madness · 29/01/2007 17:31

After a (short first) day of work, back at home with dd2 sleeping on my lap!!
She had short naps in the pram and drank twice a little bit from a beaker so she wasn't starving...
When I picked her up she seemed OK, she wasn't crying !! In the morning the childminder didn't have any other children so she was able to carry her around.

Better get supper ready (am good with all these things carrying dd2 in my arms)

madness · 29/01/2007 17:34

o and pinkdolly, she still sleeps with me in bed and has several feeds in the night..Because I don't have to get up I sot of carry on sleeping so often don't remenvber how many times she has woken up. At the moment dh sleeps with the other two and in fact dd1 who is nearly 4 y has never slept on her own...

prettymum · 29/01/2007 17:53

hi ladies

well theres nothing really happening in our household to write about. junior can sit very well, he sits on the floor and plays with dd and he can sit in the bath without plunging all over the place!

he isnt keen on food much aswell! he'll only chew on bits of chewy food and thats it! im just going to be patient.

and he still wakes 1 -2 times every night for a feed. as i tend to go bed 1-2 am i give him a dream feed before i sleep so he just about sleeps through.

congratulations to all the ladies who are dropping off the weight, i just seem to be eating more! i tried my lateral thigh trainer properly last night and its really good, hopefully i should have a nice flat stomach by summer!

better go, kids need some attention, hope everyone has a lovely peaceful evening

IamBlossom · 29/01/2007 19:47

evening girlie girlie girls!

Hugs madness, do feel for you being at work. DH had the temerity to threaten reneging on our agreement that I am now off work till DS1 goes to school....the company I worked for have been bought by another much bigger software company and they sent through my revised contract in their letter head etc, which reminded DH of what I used to earn....should have binned it before he saw it.

HVs - how annoying are they? The thing is you can say oh my baby is a little thing she needs to eat in the night, or you can say oh my baby is a mahoosive fat lardy thing and needs to eat in the night...either way, if your baby wakes up in the night and needs a bottle to get back off you going to give it one aren't you? I am now in this dillemma. Having slept through since about 2 months old, Toby is now up at least once usually twice for a whole 8 oz bottle. This is plus three good size meals, and four 8 oz bottles a day. I am trying to mix pretty much everything with baby rice to give him as many carbs as poss, but no change so far. Bloody exhausted, was supposed to be going swimming tonight but couldn't be arsed....had a bath instead, does that count?

DS1 is being "chalenging" at the moment too. Reminds me of your DD1 HC, the way you describe her. Except instead of telling me he hates me or something like that, he behaves abominably whenever anyone else is here....I think he hates me paying anyone else attention - "STOP TALKING MUMMY!!!!" Doing the exact opposite of anything I ask/tell him to do, hitting me, being really grotty and whingy etc. Fun fun fun, the joys of terrible twos....Toby was really moody today as well. Must be a Monday thing.

Right, going to chill and watch Stenders and Trial and Retribution, and DARE Toby to wake up tonight....(but then he will grin at me and I will snuggle my face into his chubby neck and melt and he can do pretty much anything he likes and I won't mind....)

Bloss

ImpyChica · 29/01/2007 21:23

Tee hee Bloss - funny post! Sounds like a growth spurt with Toby, no? They do wrap us around their little, perfectly formed, chubby gorgeous fingers, don't they?! Ryan has been slightly better at sleeping of late but usually wakes at least once (I'm still b-feeding in the main but DP gives him a big bottle of formula/baby rice around 11pm).

{{{Hugs}}} to those with poorly LOs. It's such hell - and only time and cuddles seem to help. Hope they're all fighting fit soon.

Hope work is going well for those of you just going back.

Pink - can't believe your HV said that about sleeping through the night - she obviously doesn't have kids.... There's no rhyme or reason to when/why they do/don't sleep through. Every baby is different. Also try not to worry about weight gain or lack thereof. Again, every baby is different, has different growth rates etc. These charts are created to add further guilt/panic to us mothers. Ryan hasn't gained any weight in the last three months (but then he was a porker to begin with). I don't have a HV but go to the paeditrician (sp?) every month for a weigh-in etc and he's not bothered about Ryan's lack of weight gain. I think we as mothers instinctively know if there is a problem with our LOs - if they seem fine in every other way except piling on the pounds, then I'm sure they're ok...

Well have a good evening/week all.

Impy x

HumphreysCorner · 29/01/2007 21:24

Bloss-yep, the terrible twos and threes and fours probably Thing is, DD1 loves me now and asks me to put her to bed every night-DH is feeling left out now! If Sophie wakes in the night then she wakes in the night! Where is it written down that 'Thou shalt sleep through the night at 6 months of age'? You must be off work until at least next year Can't you negotiate to return when Toby goes to school?

madness-good to hear from you. Glad that DD2 was fine.

Well, had the awful smear test (think it is less painful pushing a baby out). Had to wait 40 mins and Sophie was sobbing for most of it-glad I am seeing the Dr tomorrow. A lady sat next to me and said 'oh dear, is she poorly, is she seeing the Dr?' Had to say that actually, the appointment was for me and Sophie would be seeing the Dr tomorrow.

Mum and I went to see the mad Vicar and the Christening is on the 20th May so have plenty of time to plan!

Attention - where are all the newbies that joined us over the last couple of months ?

DH out playing Squash so going to have a peaceful early night.

Oooh HC - I'm supposed to have a smear in February and I keep putting off making the appointment . When I was pg I had to go in for tests in case my waters were leaking - I found the - ahem - procedure more painful than ever and now I'm dreading having it again for a smear. You'd think after a back labour with hardly any pain relief I'd be up for anything now, wouldn't you? How quickly your body forgets what it's capable of - I'm still terrified of going to the dentists fgs!

pinkdolly · 30/01/2007 08:21

morning ladies!

Thanx for advice re Jazz. I have to say I dont usually listen to hv's anyway. But i am feeling a bit run down of late. v.tired and and a bit emotional. Things are starting to get to me a bit more at the minute. I think a whole month of sickness and quite disturbed sleep is now taking it's toll.

I'm glad i'm not the only one having trouble with their older children. DD1 (4), is getting v.stroppy, shouts far too much and can sulk for england. DD2 (3) can whinge for england. I love em to bits tho, just feel a rest is in order.

HC- you reminded me that i was called for a smear in october...ooops!

First- thanx for the link wil go check it out.

Another thing my hv told me yesterday, b/f babies over the age of 6 months should be taking multi-vitimins? has anyone else been told this?

Ceebee74 · 30/01/2007 08:29

HC - well done - better than you thought losing 1lb!

Big hugs to all of you who are struggling with your other children - I am so full of admiration for you as it is hard enough looking after one child.

Took Josh to be weighed yesterday - he was 18lb 5oz at 29 weeks (although the HV insisted it was 30 and I couldn't be bothered arguing. It was different clinic to my usual one as that is on one of my working days and tbh, it was awful. A really grotty, dirty building and we had to wait ages whereas at my usual one you could usually go straight in - plus the HV wasn't friendly at all - probably because I am not one of her mums!! Think I am just going to go once a monthish now as I don't really want to subject Josh to that place very often!!

Anyway, when I was putting him on the scales his head fell back and landed on the metal with a rather loud clunk - bless him, he looked a bit shocked but didn't cry (which the HV made some sarcastic comment about) but I was so and got really paranoid that the HV would send SS round or something as I must be a terrible mother that I can't even look after my babies head!!

Anyway, must dash - Josh needs a nappy change and I am going to salsa aerobics in a minute.

Have good days
x

maewest · 30/01/2007 08:58

Pink - think this time of year is always difficult, grey, cold and damp, cooped up inside etc. I always wish I could hibernate for January & February

HumphreysCorner · 30/01/2007 11:45

Morning ladies

pink-I thought the whole point of the Health Professionals harping on about BF being best is that the milk has everything the baby needs without supplementing Hope you feel brighter soon.

Ceebee-HV have the knack of making you look incompetent. LOL at SS coming round-with DD1 I used to go and get her weighed most weeks and I used to dread it if she had a scratch or bump. I always think they make you strip them of all their clothes and nappy so they can check for marks. With Sophie I don't bother going, only when I have to. Am going this afternoon so cannot wait to hear what words of wisdom the HV comes up with.

Poor Sophie is still coughing-bless her.

We have to start recycling this week as the council have delivered 3 bins so household waste is only collected once a fortnight now. Will have smelly nappies for 2 weeks. It is doing my head in knowing what goes in which bin!

Have broken my thumbnail off really low down and it is so sore. Should be doing cleaning but can't bear anything to touch it-could put a plaster on I suppose.

Hugs to all and I'll be back later.

AnnieOleTing · 30/01/2007 14:37

HC poor Sophie. How did it go at the docs?

HumphreysCorner · 30/01/2007 15:40

Am back from the Drs and am more worried than ever! The HV measured her head and it was 39cm then she measured her length which was 64.5cm. Sophie now weighs 15lb 2ozs at 31 weeks so she has put some weight on. Then she rushed over and measured her head again and got 40cm and said 'oh, that's better'. Didn't think anything of it until I went in to see the DR and the first thing he said was that her head was a bit small as she is off the scale with it. He said her weight was fine but when I look the stoopid HV has put the dot in the wrong place again so it would look fine. Have had to get the Tippex out and alter it again. For length she was born on the 70th centile and is now on the 9th. Her weight is down to about the 6th. I always thought Sophie would be taller and slimmer than DD1 due to her being born longer but DD1 was longer and heavier and bigger headed by 31 weeks. I really shouldn't have watched the program on primordial dwarves last night as I am panicking now. The dwarfism wasn't picked up for years.

He also asked if she was rolling so I said no. He looked shocked and said not even once so I said at 6 weeks she rolled but it was a fluke. He then said, so she is happy to sit there and play and not move and yes, she is. He asked me how different she is to DD1 and there is no comparison-one is wild and the other quiet and content and hardly ever cries. He just . I said she is not having much milk like articles say she should be having. He told me not to worry as she will gauge herself how much she needs and the articles are not much good.

He said they will measure her head at her MMR jab at 13 months ish.

She has an eye infection so has given me some ointment for that-he was happy with her chest and said this illness was going round the area.

HV gave me a bag with books in it and said to start the bedtime reading and join the library. She said the hessian bag is not baby friendly so keep Sophie away from it. Er, why produce bags like this? Never did take DD1 to the library as she has hundreds of books of her own.

Off to have the rest of my lunch as had to leave in the middle of it.

Bye for now.

Please try not to worry, and don't be watching those programs where they have unusual conditions, that's exactly what they are, unusual and extremely rare. Little Sophie is PERfect!
hugs to you.
