Thought I had better start a new thread as the old one was about to crash

Happy 30th B'Day kbaby Wish I was 30 again but then I suppose I wouldn't even be married let alone have a house to live in or my 2 precious children. Whoops-going all sentimental now, better go!

Taking DD1 to her dance class Christmas Party so got some sarnies to be getting on with.

Happy Sunday

Oh god i don't go on those threads at all,not even to read them.I am dead keen on bf for me and my babies it's true,BUT it's not the be all and end all.Nuff said lol

I have my size 14s that i bought the other day on so feeling good.
Was really worried about binning my old baggy jeans but had to be brave and venture out in my new ones.

Just had a call from school about ds1 that he's not in uniform so have to iron black jeans and take them up to school now.Grrrr like i need anymore to do.Also noticed this morning he had a huge lovebite on his neck eeek. What does one say to a teen about this? He is changing so much atm, looks like a grown man but still such a little boy inside.

Oh well you gals have all this to come lol xxx

frenchleave · 19/01/2007 08:56

Morning all. A better night here too - T woke for his usual midnight feast but then slept through til 8.15 , but I'm still tired because DD2 came in at something like 4am having had a bad dream Am v of all of you whose babs sleep through properly.

What is the min weight for front-facing seats? The rules are different here - my SIL has been using a carrycot in the car for her baby, and when he's too big for that (soon) he'll go straight into a front-facing seat, at least I think that's what she said, because they didn't want the expense of a baby carrier-type seat. Sounds dodgy safety-wise to me.

Time to go out now, boring shopping to do

Ceebee74 · 19/01/2007 09:19

Morning all.

Us - I asked the same question about sleeping on their front on here a while back as Josh always ends up on his front - the general consensus is that if they get themselves there then they should be fine (josh also can't roll over onto his back properly).

Agalgh/Koshka - bog congrats on the weight loss - keep it up girls!

Koshka - I have added a profile (struggling with adding photos though)

Twinkle - have a fab weekend (though you will have gone by the time you read this) - hope it goes well.

Re - front facing car seats - the weight limit is 9kg (approx 9 months but they do say that the weight is the most important.)

French - my guess is 17lb 8oz.

must go - got to get Josh ready for nursery (the little tinker slept for a while at nursery yesterday without needing to be held, stroked etc - won't do that for me) and then go for a 'return to work' interview with my boss - how exciting!

maewest · 19/01/2007 09:35

Our nights seem to be settling down too, more unsettled in the early evening, but then we get a nice long stretch until anything between 4-6am, then he will often doze off after a feed for a bit longer. Feeling much more human, naps in the daytime still involve buggy, but yesterday I cheated and pushed him round the living room until he was asleep and then he stayed asleep for nearly an hour both times! Woohoo!

Algach & Koshka - great weight loss. I think for me between the constant bf and buggy pushing I am slimmer than I've been for ages. Only trouble is that most of my jeans are now all saggy and I'm skint at the mo, can't win.

kbaby · 19/01/2007 10:08

maewest- he looks lovely and sits so well.

Well I wont bore you too much with our lack of sleep but its getting worse and out of desperation last night I gave him medised so he did eventually sleep 4 hrs bliss. The last 2 nights hes been awake at 10.30pm then 12 until 5am!! But he is going down awake for all naps and bedtime horrayy.. don?t know why I bothered with the naps though as I know mil will cuddle him to sleep.

My last day of maternity leave today, poor mil has been given a huge list of what to do?s along with toys, clothes and food ready for next week.

Took ds to gps about his cradle cap and its infected so hes on antibiotic and steroid cream.
DS, DD and I all have colds which is typical in view of the fact ive got work.
Kayzed- I used to give dd natural yogurt and mix fruit puree with it if I could be bothered and worrying about sugar etc. Don?t worry about the brekkie, some people aren?t brekkie people iyswim.

What age should I start to offer solids 1st. at the moment our day goes like this-?
7am ? milk 7ozs or boob
10- milk
1pm milk then 1 cube food
4pm- milk 5 ozs
6pm ? 1 cube food 1 cube fruit
7.30 ? 7ozs milk
Im confused. were following the unmentionable book but because I weaned ds later then im still on the 4 month plan I don?t know if I should skip to the 5-6 month plan and increase his solids more.
Lysettes- maybe he just realizes that hes on his own and wants the reassurance that your around.
Iamblos- dds fave book is The Gruffalo highly recommend it.
Koshka- well done on the weight loss
usandnosleep- dd was the same, she couldn?t roll back either but slept better and preferred it on her tum. As long as his neck muscles are strong hell be fine.

usandnosleep · 19/01/2007 11:33

Thanks for the thoughts re sleeping on front, that's what I felt too but wanted some opinions for my own reasurance.

Kbaby- I think medised helped get Zack into a better sleep routine, he has been poorly so I gave him a dose before bed for 4 nights. He hasn't had any the last couple of nights but still only woken twice for a feed and has gone straight back down.

frenchleave · 19/01/2007 12:31

Us- forgot to say that my DD2 slept a lot on her front when she was little and she slept so much better for it, it's obviously much cosier! Is Zack in a grobag? If so he must be very athletic to roll about with it on, T can't! (but he's lazy )

Off to the docs now.

HumphreysCorner · 19/01/2007 13:40

Hello ladies

kosh-brill pushchair-bet your v. pleased with it.

I am desperately wanting to put Sophie in the front facing Britax car seat now we have moved DD1 into a booster seat but the baby has to be 19lb before they can go in them. DD1 was about 20lb at this age whereas Sophie is only 14 or maybe 15lb so have got to wait a short while. Have pulled my back and heaving the seat (which clips to a base) in and out of the car is really hurting.

kbaby-good luck for your return to work. Will be thinking about you.

us-DD1 used to sleep on her tummy and I think it is a natural thing for them to turn their head one way to breathe easier. I took a photo of her so I know she was about this age. It is worrying when you find them in their cot face down for the first time. Even though Sophie is my 2nd baby I am forever going in her room and prodding her to check she is still breathing.

kayzed-I know you have already left but...HAVE A BRILL TIME !

Sophie is napping so better do some sort of cleaning-doh!

usandnosleep · 19/01/2007 14:14

French- yes Zack is in a grobag but it is a lightweight one and he only wears a vest under it so plenty of room to wriggle those legs around!

HC- I'm glad others prod regularly too! It seems a long time to wait before they can go in a front facing seat. It's going to be ages before Zack and Sophie can go in one, Zack is long and he props his feet up on the back seat of the car.

Zack woke up hoarse and pretty miserable so we went back to the docs. He now has an inflamed throat and is wheezing. More antibiotics to give him and if he deteriorates(sp?)at all at the weekend we have to go to the hospital. Poor little monkey, he is teething at the same time
It has been quite a worrying week.

HumphreysCorner · 19/01/2007 14:41

Yes us-Sophie is much longer than DD1 was so is really too big for the little car seat

Meant to say to Kosh and agalch-you are both an inspiration to us slimmers. Keep up the good work!

Back from docs and Thomas is now 17lb 5oz so Ceebee was closest . He measures 67cm and has stayed bang on his percentile, so he's doing ok on the boob alone. Also got no pressure from the doc to wean so I'm feeling 100% zen.

Us/HC - I check and prod constantly. I have been known to get up in the middle of the night to put a finger under his nose to check for breath! I've only woken him once with all my poking Not that I'm paranoid or anything.

I hope Zack is better soon. It's awful having an ill little one, poor you, and poor him My DD got bronchiolitis when she was 18 months and it was horrid, but she was fine after 24 hours on nebulisers in hospital, so try not to worry too much. {{{hugs}}}

Twinklemegan · 19/01/2007 20:19

Hi folks. I'm still here as Aidan's skin was really bad this morning so I took him to the doctor. We're driving down overnight now. The dr thinks there's a bit of an infection there so I've got some antibiotic cream to try.

Re THAT thread - I started out on MN thinking I could fly the flag for people who found bf really tough. I've come to the conclusion, however, that many of the people who post on these threads aren't interested in solutions - they're happy just to bang on about skin to skin and berate formula feeders without any attempt at understanding. One person on that thread had the gall to compare a man's sorrow at being unable to help his wife through her struggles with bf to a woman being annoyed cos she can't go to the toilet standing up! This is the mentality of these people. I'm still over there fighting my corner but I'm on the verge of giving up now! Rant over!!!

Right I'm signing off now. See you all on Tuesday. BTW Kbaby - I've moved on to the five month plan. Aidan's on 4 cubes at lunchtime and about 5 tsps of baby rice with 2 cubes fruit at tea time. Plan to give milk first at six months. HTH!

Lysettes · 19/01/2007 20:44

hi everyone - totally forgotten who i am supposed to be writing specific replies to...

i had a look on THAT thread - I agree there is a huge hardcore of MNers who do seem to think that their way is the only way - we had to express right from the start because Jacob had to have a powder fortifier added to two of his feeds a day when he came out of hospital as he was so small. And I also found out that the reason my milk dropped off so quickly was to do with the blood pressure medication i was on after severe pre-eclampsia! I'd feel terrible if i took to heart what most of thos people say!

I too have heard that if Lo's can get themselves onto their front on their own they are ok to sleep that way
Us - have you tried a humidifier? you can get cold ones and steam ones - Jacob is vey snuffly and we use it when he has a cold - really helps his breathing - a stema one may help if Zack is wheezy?

HC i too had a look at petits filous at the supermarket today - the new ones they are advertising on tv - left them because of the sugar content - we are going to try ralchel's organic yoghurts and see how we go.

And after saying Jacob won't touch baby rice even with fruit in (we had tried apple) he is loving it with pear in it! Had it two days in a row for dinner after a vegetable - we are now on porridge for breakfast, veg for lunch (need to expand his reportoire though ) and small veg for dinner followed by rice mixed with fruit. We are also giving him that eye-q fish oil supplement- just started today, so will let you all know how he takes to that!

grainy photo of jacobhere - will try and put some better ones on soon!

sorry must also rememnber not to post when i am drinking rather large glass of red wine - terrible typos

Wallace · 19/01/2007 22:20

I bought Muller little stars fromage frais (because they were reduced to 30p for 6!)I thought they were sugar free, but just checked and they are not - clever advertising! Leo hasn't had them yet..not sure how to fit them into BLW

Lysette - love the photo, you can see what a lovley smile he has

I thinbk to go in a forward facing carseat they have to be 9kg (20lbs) and 9 months old

prettymum · 19/01/2007 23:40

evening ladies

kbaby- hope tonight is better for you and hows the cradle cap? junior had very early on and used coconut oil on his hair when bathing and it cleared up.

agalch and koshka- well done to your weight loss, can you please encourage me, i really need to tone up, well my arms get a lot of work out with have to drag buggy up to the second floor to my flat!

agalch- its getting closer to your big day!! it must be so exciting.

cant write much, have work in the morning and feeling kind of down at the moment (probably due to AF) just in that mood were you want to be left alone and cant be bothered to show affection

well hope everyone has a good night, goodnight ladies xx

prettymum · 19/01/2007 23:41

lysette- i cant see your pictures, but dont worry its only me not being able to see pics [crying emotion] too

Wallace · 20/01/2007 09:39

prettymum - sympathies x xx x

kbaby - missed your post last time, I hope you had a better night last night. So pleased for you the he is going to sleep by himself Leo has regressed on that front again

Leo still only has lunch and supper (in too much of a hurry in the morning )

maewest · 20/01/2007 11:12

Lysettes - what a little dude!

Slightly crappy night here, but think we're making progress on the going to sleep by himself front, slowly slowly.... not all the time, but occasionally, so gives me some hope

FirstAtForty · 20/01/2007 15:14

Hi Girls
Hope everyone?s doing okay ? sorry can?t keep up with posts too well due to missing brain, work and lack of sleep! But gorgeous pics everyone, it?s lovely to see them

Thanks Bloss and everyone for your work support messages, really kind . I think it?s getting (very slightly) better - still forgetting things but not feeling so guilty about nursery as she seems okay, she even did a painting this week . Work?s just same old really, except adjusting to part time is odd, not sure I?ve got my head round that one yet.

Sleeping is better, thank the lord. She slept through from 11pm till 7am on Weds night (sudden change from waking consistently every 2-3 hours for about 6 weeks), don?t know if it was a coincidence but it was the first night she had spent in her own room. Thurs and last night she only woke up once for a feed (during our sleeping hours) at about 4am, so still much better than previously.

I?ve also switched from 3 small solid feeds to 2 larger ones (mid morning and mid afternoon) as her farts were waking her up! Thought it might be better to give her longer to digest before bed. She?s woofing them down now though after a slow start, loves pear, baby rice, butternut squash, sweet potato and banana in various combinations. Not so keen on avocado but I?ll persist with that one as her weight gain still isn?t great, though she?s cruising along on the 2nd percentile, she was 12lbs 13oz on Tues at 26 weeks.

Prettymum ? hope you?re feeling better today

Usandbump ? hope Zack?s better today , must be very worrying xxx And hope the sleeping?s still improving. Re weight gain, sympathies re the HV, I got a right old grilling on bf and weaning this week too cos of the slipped percentiles. I?m sure it?s not intentional, but does leave you feeling like your breast milk must be inadequate which is all the more galling when you have been feeding right through the day and night, grr! She didn?t really have any advice to give (after all the grilling) ? maybe she should come on MN and gen up a bit !

Mae ? fingeres crossed for you for more sleep too

Kayzed ? you must be in the air ! Hope the flight?s okay and that Aus is lovely and sunshiney when you get there

Great pram Kosh - give us a report on how it performs on your first trip to town!

Sorry for mega post, have a good weekend everyone xx

Ceebee74 · 21/01/2007 09:25

Lysettes - what a lovely little boy you have.

First - lol at image of your lo painting - can't imagine Josh doing that but it sounds like a good nursery if they are doing those activities.

Josh didn't sleep at all at nursery on Friday during the 4 hours he was there - I am really worried now that I am going to be picking up a VERY grumpy little boy each day now as he won't have slept much (if at all!)

Anyway, I think we can declare his move into his room/cot a success - he has settled really easily and seems to get good night's sleep - though he does seem to move around the entire cot during the night - turns himself round so his head is where is feet should be, flips over from front to back - he is in a different position everytime we go in! Is this normal?

kbaby · 21/01/2007 09:59

Hc- I leave ds car seat in the car now as I found lugging it about too heavy plus I kept knocking it on door frames etc.

Us- Hope Zack improves and starts to feel better. Heres a pic of DD sleeping when she was 21 weeks. DS is lazy and likes sleeping on his side but for some reason we have to put him there, he doesn?t think he can roll at night himself! here and ceebee, DD used to also move around the cot and her fave position was right up against the top of the cot with her head pressed against the bars or widthways, very odd.

Twinklemegan- I tend to stay away from those threads, its just not worth the hassle. Whose to say that one way of parenting is the right way for everyone. Plus I cant say I ever want to pee standing up, having a wee is the only chance of a sit down and a rest I get and thanks btw

Lysettes- I love his smile.

Prettymum- His cradle cap seems to have cleared up a lot now but must still be itchy as he scratches it if hes tired or fed up(he looks like Laurel from Laurel and hardy) and Fri night was back to normal with only the 2 wakings.

Wallace its taken me 2 weeks to get there and not much crying but I did this - cuddled him until dozy, laid him in his cot on his side and put a t shirt next to his nose and he snuggles into it. At 1st he would whinge a bit and try to turn onto his back so I put him back on his side(it stopped him waving his arms about)stayed there patting his bum (faster if he started crying) once he stopped crying I would then just lay my hand on his arm until he closed his eyes and then leave. The longest it took was 12 minutes and now were down to 2 mins. Now all I do is lay him down put my arm on him until he closes his eyes and leave. We do occasionally get a bit of a moan but Im determined theres no picking him up unless he really cries. I just need to convince mil now to do the same as with DD she always needed to be rocked to sleep for naps and I was still doing that when she was 2!!

Dreading going back to work tomorrow. Even though im going back to the same company im going back to a different building, team and Manager so lots of changes.

First- Glad the sleep is going better, I hope it continues for you.

Ds new trick is to frantically kick his legs in his bouncy chair to make it bounce, he does this while smiling frantically and blowing raspberries so that his entire t shirt gets covered in dribble.

Wallace · 21/01/2007 10:26

It's quiet here without KZ

ceebee - perfectly normal re the moving round in cot thing...I'm impressed, Leo doesn't move at all yet!

first - grrr at your HV, they have a talent at making people feel bad! Glad the sleeping is better.

kbaby - I need to try that, it took me FIVE HOURS to get Leo to sleep last night. He used to get himself to sleep a few weeks ago, but then just stopped. Re cradle cap, Leo has some itchy bits and does that comedy scratching too!

kbaby · 21/01/2007 10:36

Wallace- of course I have probably jinxed it now by telling you its going well and tonight of all nights wont work.

Right really must get off mumsnet as I need to pick up dc off mum and dye my hair.
