Thought I had better start a new thread as the old one was about to crash

Happy 30th B'Day kbaby Wish I was 30 again but then I suppose I wouldn't even be married let alone have a house to live in or my 2 precious children. Whoops-going all sentimental now, better go!

Taking DD1 to her dance class Christmas Party so got some sarnies to be getting on with.

Happy Sunday

kbaby - good luck tomorrow, I hope it goes ok. Thomas does that manic rasberry-blowing thing in his bouncy chair too, his tops are soaked in minutes! And I'm impressed at your patience with the sleep thing. 2 minutes to get him to sleep is pretty good going. I hope it works for you too Wallace.

This weaning thing. I read what all your babies are eating and I feel wierd. It's a hugely emotive subject for me, as Thomas is definitely our last baby and I soooo like feeding him (apart from at 2am) that I'm dreading weaning, I really am . I half heartedly gave him a taste of mashed broccoli at lunchtime, he shuddered and spat it out. My girls are desperate to spoon-feed him, even they are piling on the pressure! He's nearly 27 weeks, does it matter that he's still on milk alone? He's gaining weight nicely and not really sitting yet, so maybe he's not ready either Am I being silly? No, don't answer that...

maewest · 21/01/2007 14:24

frenchleave, I feel like I'm putting off weaning as long as poss too (and DS is my first). He is 6 months old in a weeks time. Part of me feels that I really struggled through the first 3 months, and I now feel really comfortable with bf. Introducing solids is a confirmation that he's leaving behind little babyhood, so not surprising to have an emotional response to it. Physiologically I think the only thing you need to keep an eye on is iron levels, as solid food in the first year is mostly about getting used to tastes and textures, milk is still the most important thing, whether breast or bottle.

Lysettes · 21/01/2007 15:22

just quickly - frenchleave they don't have to be weaned until a year - as maewest says it's about vitamins and iron and if you are in any doubt, they suggest you can get a supplement (we had to use dalivit at the start with jacob) which works well. it's a multivitamin but i think you can get some with iron in as well.

FirstAtForty · 21/01/2007 15:32

Ceebee ? lol, I couldn?t imagine Emma painting either, but it seems to have been literally done with her own fair hands ? DP said ?that?s good, she can paint her own room now? (mean daddy). She doesn?t sleep much at nursery either - a half hour nap in the morning and one in the afternoon, and they have trouble putting her down. She seems to make up for it though with a long nap in the early evening. Glad the cot and room is working well, we?ve only tried the new room so far, will put up the cot tonight and see what happens ? can?t imagine she?ll move about much, though she may surprise us.

Kbaby ? gorgeous pic, she looks like one of those lovely cartoon babies you see sleeping with their bums in the air, bless! Oh and it?s hair dyeing day here today as well? Good luck at work tomorrow

Yes ? what is it with the raspberries?! Emma is obsessed with blowing them at the moment

Wallace ? good luck with getting Leo to sleep tonight! Was it Leo in the pic with what looked like a cigar in his mouth (so far back I?m not 100% sure ) ? made me laugh, what a star!

Frenchleave and Mae ? understand completely your feelings re weaning, I was very reluctant to start and only really did at 24/25 weeks because of worries about not having enough EBM for nursery. It did feel like it would be the end of a special time and I suppose it was. However I do now find it quite fun as it?s something new you can do together - I actually look forward to her ?solids? feeds. Also, if you keep the size of the meals small I don?t see why bf should decrease significantly anyway and they can still get to taste new things, (or am I talking bollocks )? I still seem to be doing as many bf?s as I did before, she has milk (or EBM) at least every 4 hours. This is good for us as she needs to put on weight anyway, so the solid feeds are just ?extras? as her appetite for milk hasn?t decreased yet. Anyway I?m definitely not trying to talk you into weaning as your circumstances are probably different ? I?m sure you will do what is right for you, just wanted to say I understand not wanting to do it (then I started rambling a bit?)

madness · 21/01/2007 17:43

well, I tried a little bit of babyrice today. Strictly speaking she will only be 6 months on wednesday but thought it was easier to have some pics taken as well with dh around. Also, I'm due to start work in 1 weeks time and dd2 hasn't really accepted any bottles yet...so hoping by introducing solids now, she won't starve next monday...

IamBlossom · 21/01/2007 18:58

evening laddez. Hungover here. Cannot take my wine these days, went out for BIL's 40th last night and am paying the price. Both boys in bed asleep by 6pm tonight, I couldn't wait to get some peace and quiet, mean mummy.

Toby blows raspberries too! Usually with a mouth ful of sweet potato. And why do they always wait until they have a mouthful to sneeze? He has pebbledashed many of my tops....

Sympathies to all those working, and to US re Zack......you have had a worrying time, hope all is ok.

Re colds - I use vapouriser in Toby's room if he is bunged up, it wafts menthol and eucalyptus around the room, smells heavenly and does seem to help his breathing. I also put snufflebabe on his chest, kiddie vicks, which also seems to help.

Toby is on three meals a day and I offer milk 4 times a day, and he usually manages to consume at least 20 ounces although I do have to keep an eye on it. If he refuses his mid morning or afternoon milk he does tend to make up for it by waking in the night for a bottle, so it balances out....flatly refuses to drink water with meals though....

I have used Medised with DS1 and TOby before. It is deffo my drug of choice because it does make them drowsy. I think that whoever said it helps to break a bad sleep/waking pattern is right, sometimes you just need them to have a solid lump of sleep to break a bad habit, and if you have to use Medised to do it, why not? Not going to do them any harm, hardly a Munchhausen by proxy situation!!

And a new week is in the offing.....jealous of KZ in the sunshine

Love

Bloss

All Josh seems to do is blow raspberries - quite cute!

Wallace - am just showing off now but one night I went to check on Josh and found that he had wriggled all the way up the length of his cot in order to get a dummy (which I thought I had put well out of his reach as I only give him them to go to sleep and take out as soon as he is asleep)!

Kbaby - Josh does the widthways sleeping aswell. Thank god for grobags cos otherwise he would be very cold all night as he would wriggle out of his covers in 5 seconds. Good luck tomorrow.

First - thanks for the reassurance about sleeping at nursery - don't know why I am so concerned about it - I should stop getting my knickers in a twist about it!

HumphreysCorner · 21/01/2007 19:47

Bloss-hungover eh? Only got yourself to blame-have no sympathy for you One thing is guaranteed when you have a hangover and that is that every hour that passes you will feel a tad better so by now you should be back on the wine (hair of the dog).

kbaby-good luck for tomorrow. Will be thinking of you. Love the pic of DD as my DD1 used to sleep like that-bum in the air. I had forgotten until I saw your pic. Sophie bounces her rocker across the floor.

Sophie's eczema has appeared on her face again. Gave her a piece of toast and butter this morning and she kept putting it in her mouth and gumming it. Ended up on the floor though. Going to introduce lumps next weekend as she will be 7 months on Saturday

Lost it with DD1 at tea time. Made a Shepherds Pie and she decided she doesn't like tomatos and was sat picking at her tea for over an hour. She has eaten Shepherds Pie before and she does like tomatos. GGGRRRHHH!!!

french-I love feeding Sophie and she doesn't go on the boob as much now she is on her 3 meals a day but still at least 3 times a day which is nice. Don't worry too much.

Going to chill and do my jigsaw now so hugs to all.

Ceebee-don't panic about not losing as you have lost 2 weeks running and my WW leader used to say that on the non loss weeks you were losing inches and not pounds. I always measure myself at the start of a diet so that I can cheer myself up if I have lost inches even though the weight hasn't shifted for a while. Also, she used to make a note of cycle time and write a P on my records. I think it was to stop people using that excuse every week-lol!

OP posts:
frenchleave · 21/01/2007 20:29

Thanks Mae, Lysettes, First and HC for your weaning reassurance/sympathy. It's a relief to know I'm not alone, and that they don't actually need food until a year, not that I'll be holding out that long! You'd think I'd never done this before.

T sucked on a piece of cucumber this evening, but wasn't over impressed with that, nor the toast finger he swiped from DD2's plate! I haven't even got a highchair yet as last weekend we got out the trusty one we'd had since 1998 and the straps had gone all mouldy (yeuch) so it's gone to the tip.

All this said, I am slightly of the wine guzzling Bloss (a bit less of the hangover ) and wouldn't mind a child-free, alcohol-fuelled dinner at a nice restaurant.

T's baptism is all but sorted, hooray! Shame I won't be drinking my share of the booze after that either

Night all xx

Ceebee74 · 21/01/2007 20:45

HC - Thanks for the reassurance - I like 'you are losing inches, not pounds' - must keep saying that to myself. Funny thing is that DH stayed the same aswell so maybe my healthy meals weren't as healthy as I thought.

Anyway, tomorrow is another day and I knew this would have to be a long-term thing.

Kbaby - meant to say - what a fab photo - think I might try sleeping like that tonight

soph28 · 21/01/2007 21:07

hello everyone! I've been away in Aberdeen for 5 days for my niece's dedication which was today. SO much to catch up on so haven't read everything!

loads of lovely photos again- all beautiful babies.

Frenchleave- thanks for the 6mth birthday reminder for Chloe! Wow it's gone so quickly, I can't believe it.

Still can't get Chloe to eat any solids- the only thing we've got close to her eating is custard!

Am absolutely shattered so am having an early night.

see you tomorrow, night.

Lysettes · 21/01/2007 21:08

ceebee also remember muscle weighs more than fat so if you are toning up you won't necessarily lose weight, but totally agree - inches!

jacob has taken to sneezing with a mouth full, and also as he's drooling so much at the moment when he eats, he seems to swallow all the "solid" and keep the liquid in his mouth with lots of drool, and actually spat it out in a stream at me today - classy chap

bloss we use snufflebabe as well - it really works, especially at the moment as he's really snuffly, poor thing!

have a lovely evening ladies

HumphreysCorner · 21/01/2007 22:10

Ah, yes-good old Snufflebabe. I put it on their noses (I know you aren't supposed to but it really helps). Have been known to stick it on my nose too.

Night all

OP posts:
Lysettes · 22/01/2007 09:05

HC we can't do that as Jacob likes to wipe his hands all over his face before sucking his thumb so it would probably end up in his mouth - guess it wouldn't taste too good!

we slept through the night last night! Not boasting at all, just so happy to have a decent night's kip - we'd gone to a feed at 1030ish and then through till 7ish for a few days, and then last night he didn't wake up at 1030, so with heavy heart I thought "here we go, it's going to be 2am again!", and then nothing, till about 6am! Admittedly I did almost wake him in the middle of the night by prodding to make sure he was stil breathing , but the little trooper carried on sleeping!

Of course this means I should be energised and get loads done today but it's so grey and horrid we might just stay in and snuggle!

anyone got snow?

pinkdolly · 22/01/2007 11:34

morning ladies,

Well The pox is now gone, hoorah!, but poor Jazz has come down with something or other. She is Hot and snuffly and coughing well.

Dare I say i started my diet again 2 days ago. All's well so far. My arms are sore from pushups (half body) and my tummy muscles are a bit achey too. Am gonna get me some decent trainers and take up running too (that'll be funny as dh says "you dont do running")

I have about 1 stone to get me pre pg weight but would like to lose about 1 1/2 really.

Oh girls! my pamper day is not looking good. Jazz will not take a bottle. I know she has been poorly but she hates it. She really cries and then looks so content and happy when I put her on my boob. What am I supposed to do?
My friend and i were supposed to be going to the spa tomorrow as they are having an open evening with freebies. Friend thinks i should take Jazz with us and take turns looking after her. But not sure. What do you think?

Bloss- am with you on the medised, I have used it for the girls it does help them sleep when they are poorly sick.

Well have been making cakes with the girls and they are ready for icing. So best go.

toddlepip!

Ceebee74 · 22/01/2007 12:17

Lysettes - I put snufflebabe on Josh's chest so he can still breath it but not get it all over his hands. Also, where are you? It is absolutely beautiful here in Lancashire - very cold but bright blue sky - wanted to take Josh out for a walk but am too busy watching tennis

HumphreysCorner · 22/01/2007 13:13

Afternoon ladies

No snow here, a touch of sleet but blue sky and sunny now. Did attempt a walk yesterday then it poured so stayed in.

Had a bad night with Sophie. Her and me are coming down with a cold so she was up for 2 hours between 1 and 3am (DH slept through even though Sophie thought it was time to talk at 1am and was v. vocal) So, out came the Snufflebabe and ye olde faithful Calpol. Therefore, am not going walking today either-maybe try tomorrow.

pink-if Jazz is anything like Sophie then I would take her as she happily sits and watches. Try not to miss out on your pamper day. Well done on the keep fit campaign and thank goodness the pox has gone. Colds can be expected at this time and are easier to handle.

Took DD1 to nursery and it has been broken into for the 2nd time since New Year GITS !

Have put Sophie down for a nap so going to chill as feel grot myself.

kbaby-hope your day has gone OK.

Byee for now

ImpyChica · 22/01/2007 14:44

Hi all.

Poor HC - hope you both feel better and nightmare about the nursery. Gits indeed.

Totally with you, Frenchleave, on the weaning - I've started it gradually with Ryan but it did feel strange and I intend to keep bf-ing inbetween for as long as poss.

Good luck with sorting out the pamper day, PinkDolly - you deserve it. Ryan took a while to get used to bottles - maybe try a different brand? Ry didn't like the Avent one and did better with Nuuk.

Hope you're having fun KZ and the flight was ok ! The short flight from here to the UK is bad enough for me!

Ryan's new tricks are - playing peekaboo himself with a cloth, turning 180 degrees in his cot and sitting for quite a few minutes unsupported... And I hardly dare say it, as I'll curse it... but we've had two nights now where he's slept for over six hours at a time. Record.

Anway, hope you all have a good week. Good luck to those back at work.

Hugs, Impy

soph28 · 22/01/2007 14:48

Jazz- Chloe would not take a bottle and I was planning on going out for a day on my montain bike a month or so ago. In the end I refused to give in to her (cruel mother that I am) and on the first day she took the bottle after 5 hours of crying everytime I offered it to her. By day 3 she was taking it like a trooper. Also one night I went out with a friend, I think Chloe was about 4 months, and she refused to take a bottle from DH for 17hours before she caved. This was at 6am after having her last feed at 2pm the previous day and sleeping from 7pm-6am straight through despite having had no milk! She was absolutely fine.
Do what you think is best but be assured if you leave her she will take the bottle if she's hungry enough! It's only one day and you deserve to be pampered and refreshed.

Am having a rubbish day. Thought I would start potty training Toby and so far he has wet his pants twice and has just pooed on the floor. Despite sitting on potty numerous times. He knows that if he sits on the potty he gets a star and if he uses the potty to 'go' he gets a chocolate button but we've had no success so far. Any ideas or should i just give up?

agalch · 22/01/2007 15:21

Afternoon all

Well girls both unwell here too. Both full of the cold over the weekend so off to the docs this morning.Poor Eilidh has a chest infection and doc gave her antibiotics but she wont take any medication at all. Also gave her a suppositary for pain/fever.Can see it being a couple of weeks more before i start weaning.

Pinkdolly i have had the same probs with my bf babies. It is hard because none of my 3 ever took a bottle.I didn't leave them till they were on a cup tho, couldn't bear the thought of them being upset as i couldn't have enjoyed myself if they were miserable. But i am a wuss lol

Decided my weight loss was going so well that i treated myself to an indian takeaway on Saturday, twas delish!! Have lost a total of 2st so i think i desrved it don't you?

Right my babies need me,fed up with daddy so have a good day all xx

HumphreysCorner · 22/01/2007 15:22

soph-had 3 attempts at training DD1. 1st time at 2 yrs 3 months, 2nd at 2 yrs 6 months and finally at 2 yrs 7 months she cracked it. The first 2 times she just wasn't ready and no amount of bribing worked so on advice from MN I left it so as not to make matters worse. Then at last with a pile of Orange choccie segments she went 100's of times and I picked her up from nursery one afternoon and she used the potty all the time after this. Don't know what they did but we only had little accidents after that day and it had only taken about a week to potty train her. Luckily, she then insisted on using the toilet so even better. I would maybe leave Toby and try again in a couple of weeks otherwise you will tear your hair out especially having a baby as well. Good Luck!

OP posts:
Lysettes · 22/01/2007 16:48

jazz - agree with the others - they wil ltake a bottle if hungry enough - tough mummy's club here we come

jacob's latest trick is grabbing his penis as soon as his nappy is off! all the time at the baby clinic today! wouldn't let go!

weighed today and he is 15lb 8, so has put on a pound in the last 2 weeks - he's now about 46th centile for corrected age and 9th centile for actual age - apparently he is only measured on corrected age so he's doing really well!

what do their gums feel like before a tooth comes through?

and we're in london - ice cold wind and sleet today

prettymum · 22/01/2007 16:56

hi

agalch- well done with the weight loss, you're doing great!!

soph- i need to start thinking about potty training dd who is now 2.3 yrs, we tried before but we got too stressed so left it!! good luck and dont rush it, he will do it one day!

pinkdolly- i think you should go, if jazz is hungry enough maybe she'll take the bottle, you'll never know unless you try. do what you feel is right though, you dont want to go spa and be worrying about jazz

the kids and i will be going over to my bestfirends house later to stay the night with our other friend! looking really forward to it as its been so long since we got together and will be shopping tomorrow!

junior is also refusing water here and not very into his solids! he'll open his mouth to taste but wont eat it all and he keeps slapping the spoon away which gets quite annoying

better go got dinner on and junior starting to shout for some attention! have a nice evening ladies x

prettymum · 22/01/2007 16:58

se london- no snow but few drizzles earlier on but freezing!!
