Glad you're there in good time. Could still be a March baby!

Purpleprickles · 31/03/2016 22:47

Yay Indom! Good luck Smile

Realised a small red mark on E's chin which appeared about a week ago isn't a scratch and is more likely some kind of birth mark. It isn't raised so from my googling doesn't seem to be a strawberry mark. Feel stupidly upset about it. My midwife was coming tomorrow but is ill so can't so I'll have to wait to ask her. I also wanted her to weigh E but will have to wait another week for that too as we are going to my parents next week in a different part of the country. Feel stupidly upset about the lack of weighing too- although she is bigger I'm sure. We might do the weighing with me tomorrow.

Bloody hormones Confused

Beaut how did the gel nail removal go with the kids?

Suz sorry to hear about the boob pain- sounds awful.

Poppins27 · 31/03/2016 23:12

Purple you've just given me a potential answer to what I meant to ask the HV about today. I've noticed DS has a red eyelid, like you I thought he'd scratched it but it's still there a week later, and looking at his newborn pics it's noticeable on them too. I wonder if it's a birthmark too?! Sorry your upset about it, hope the midwife can (eventually) reassure you.

Indom thank you for taking the time to update us all mid labour!! You have everyone routing for you....is it sad that I'll actually look forward to the night feed for a progress report Blush

We also have a baby who much prefers to sleep on my chest that in the nemesis that is the Moses basket!!

DP is already snoring next to me...is it wrong I was to put the pillow over his head?!? Jealous much...yes...and it also annoys me an irrational amount!! Is it soooo hard to fall asleep on your side?!? Gah...sorry rant over!!

Purpleprickles · 31/03/2016 23:21

Poppins I don't know why I felt so upset. Dh isn't at all bothered. From my googling there is a type of birth mark that appears on eyelids. I think it was called an angel kiss. I'll let you know what I find out.

IndomitabIe · 31/03/2016 23:27

Aargh, labour hurts!

MrsElls · 31/03/2016 23:47

Good luck indom, almost there and it will all be worth it. Still a few mins for a March baby!

nixxxy · 31/03/2016 23:58

Yeay indom go for gold!!

Been AWOL from here for a few days but we've had a mad old time. Came back to the postnatal ward last night, Ellie had lost 13.5% of her birth weight, unable to feed properly. Had a horrible midwife visit that knocked me really low (she basically called me a liar and said I couldn't be feeding her as often as I was trying!) and spent the whole of yesterday trying to feed her with no success. No latch at all, sucking end of nipple once or twice, needless to say they are in shreds. (I've seen 2 BF specialists in the last 3 days FYI)

Called advice line at 2am and they told me to come straight in. Ellie was seen by paediatricians and she was obviously dehydrated. Got some expressed breast milk into her and topped up with formula.

Saw lots of lovely staff today, finally a senior sister here has diagnosed Ellie with posterior tongue tie Sad and it's the reason she's is finding it impossible to latch

We're here till Saturday, the change in her is amazing though. She was so unhappy - now we're getting the help we need. I've cried so much in the last two days I think I've used up my tears!

Think we're going to go private to get the tie dealt with, the wait list around here is 6 weeks Confused

MrsElls · 01/04/2016 00:11

Its after midnight, did indom sneak in a march baby???

Hope things get better from here on in nixxy sounds like you have had an awful time. 6 weeks wait if she can't latch can't be right Shock!

poppins ds had a red mark on his eyelid, I remember the mw saying it was really common and would disappear by the time he was a month old, I can't remember when it went but it did disappear.

magpiedreams · 01/04/2016 02:04

Thinking of you indom

RhubarbAndMustard · 01/04/2016 02:37

Came on to check on Indom. Hopefully you are having baby snuggles right now.

J has a Mongolian blue spot birthmark on his foot (pic attached- excuse angle of his foot. That's the nurse in theatre holding it and who took the pic). I'd never heard of them before but they look like a big bruise. Apparently this should disappear too but not for a few years.

Nixxy that sounds tough. Hope you get it sorted soon. 6 weeks is crazy!

ffauxlivia · 01/04/2016 04:40

Whoop go indom! Hope that gorgeous boy is in your arms right now!

nix and trijo Thanks for you. Seren had jaundice too, and nix your story is pretty much exactly what happened to us, except no tongue tie so don't really know what issue is. She always latches perfectly when with the consultants but at home I've been in agony so have been mainly pumping the last 2 days to try and give nipples a rest, going back to boob intermittently when feeling strong enough! I also felt pretty terrible about it and like a total failure and was non-stop crying for 2 days, but please remember it's not your fault at all. Seren lost about the same amount of weight but is almost back to her birthweight now, no harm done. Glad things are getting better for you

Here's a pic I took of Seren 'smiling' even though I know it's not a real smile yet! Is it about 2 months that they start voluntary smiling? I can't wait for the stage where you get more interaction from them

IndomitabIe · 01/04/2016 04:46

I've got an April baby! Grin

I'll do the details later.

ffauxlivia · 01/04/2016 05:05

indom yes!!!!!! How wonderful, can't wait for details and pics!! ThanksThanksThanks

dobbythedoggy · 01/04/2016 05:06

Congratulations indom!

Rhubarb I've seen a couple of mongolian blue spots. If he J goes into childcare before it dissapears ask them to point it out to the staff looking after him and record it prominantly on the records they keep about him. Both babies I saw them on were initially recorded as brusing as parents had never mentioned them or handed over red book.

poppins my cousin had a very laarge stawberry birthmark. It did take a while but it had faided by the time she started school and now she's in her early 20s even her mum struggles to see where it was.

ff Seren is beautiful!

magpiedreams · 01/04/2016 05:08

Congratulations indom! Hope you can get some rest now.

ffaux that pic is brill! They often smile by around 6w so perhaps not so long for you to wait.

Woodenmouse · 01/04/2016 05:34

Yeay indom congratulations Flowers

MrsElls · 01/04/2016 05:46

Ah lovely pic ffaux. Yay indom so close to being a March baby but all that really matters is that mum and baby are safe and sound and that you weren't left being pregnant on your own forever!

RhubarbAndMustard · 01/04/2016 05:51

Yay Indom! Huge congrats. And think of the April fools fun you can have with their birthday presents Grin

Thanks for the heads up dobby. I did quickly point it out to midwife and HV as was panicking they would think it was a bruise.

RhubarbAndMustard · 01/04/2016 05:53

Ps I'm loving the smiling baby pics! J has only had some fleeting windy smiles so far.

MrsBenWyatt · 01/04/2016 07:37

Many congratulations, Indom. Can't wait for more details!

Ffaux it's usually after six weeks that they start smiling in reaction to people, but Ted has been doing real smiles this week (4 weeks old). You can see that his are real and not wind when his eyes turn up too! The HV was really surprised when she saw him smiling at me!

BumpPower · 01/04/2016 07:45

Star Huge congratulations indom Flowers

Added my smiling passing wind baby photo!

MyNameIsSuz · 01/04/2016 07:53

Yay, congratulations indomitable!

I think I've got mastitis, I feel like I'm dying. I'm all feverish and nauseous and crazily thirsty. My dad is supposed to be visiting today but I'm going to cancel and go to the doctor/spend the day in bed, he'll be annoyed and won't understand. Anyone had this before? Would a hot bath help? Pumping between feeds?

ffauxlivia · 01/04/2016 08:09

Oh no suz! I thought I had it and found this link useful:

http://kellymom.com/bf/concerns/mother/mastitis/

Essentially rest, keep nursing, pumping will probably help too, use hot massage, ibuprofen etc. I run a newborn nappy under very hot water for a few seconds and put that on breast before feeds and then massage, definitely softens them and works better than a towel imo

bump cute!
mrsben well done Ted for smiling early, gives me hope!

marmiteandcheeseplease · 01/04/2016 08:10

Congrats indom!!

suz I had a mild bout of mastitis with DD1 which didn't get too serious and I ended up feverish for one day with a painful breast. I just took painkillers and fed frequently. I also used hot compresses and expresses from the blocked side. If you treat it early it's much less likely to develop into a serious case and can pass quickly. As far as I know you don't need antib unless it develops into a serious case, but if you're still feeling ill tomorrow I'd go to the GP.

Had a reasonably good night last night, E woke for two feeds and slept the whole night in the bednest so I could sleep in a comfortable position in bed, yay. Although she did have mega feeds of 1+ hour so I'm feeling quite knackered this morning.

Poppins Eleanor also has a small birthmark on her eyelid - think they're called stork patches or something? I was a bit bothered by it when she was born but not too fussed now as it's not that noticeable. DD1 had a haemangioma (strawberry birthmark) on her face when she was little. It wasn't that big at all but unfortunately was in a really awkward place by her lip and when she was 6 months old she scratched it and it wouldn't stop bleeding! Was an absolute nightmare, had to get it glued shut and she kept scratching it it so ended up in A&E a couple of times and they had to cauterise it shut. It then shrank and eventually it just disappeared off her face - by the time she was a year old it was gone. It was never particularly noticeable as was never larger than about 5mm in diameter but was just a pain in the arse to deal with once she'd scratched it.

nixxy sorry to hear about feeding issues but glad you got the posterior tongue tie diagnosed - hope that sortd things out for you.

MyNameIsSuz · 01/04/2016 08:44

Thanks both, that's really helpful. I'm now lying in bed with a hot nappy on my boob! I can't believe how awful I feel.
