me sleeping bags made a real difference to E's sleep, she is a real wriggler and would always end up kicking off blankets and did't take to swaddling past day 3. They also mean we can do pre bedtime feed in the bag and pur her down easily.

rhu poor you with hayfever, I am suffering too (less since GP okayed loratadine/cetirizine) but real feel for you having baby affected too. Hopefully it was just the grass cutter really stirring things up and it won't last all season. I have head good things about saline spray for snuffly little noses too.

indom yay on the 6.5h, glad you managed to capitalise. If your boobs are big could you express? Not sure if you are but I am expressing 1 feed a day so DH can do 1x late night feed if necessary and/or fill in if I happen to be held up. If E dies only 1 feed at night I find I can easily express first thing. We have done since week 2.

Me624 · 23/04/2016 09:41

DS went back to sleep after his 6am feed so I did too until 9 - bliss!

Thanks Missi. DS has always screamed and screamed whenever I've tried to swaddle him, he sleeps with his arms above his head. He might tolerate a Woombie though if they can still move their arms a little bit. I might see if any friends have one I can borrow to try.

Rhu and Wool hope The babies are feeling ok this morning.

Gorgeous pic marmite!

Me624 · 23/04/2016 09:44

Cross post with french, good to hear sleeping bags have helped you. We'll definitely try tonight.

RhubarbAndMustard · 23/04/2016 10:04

Thanks for the Calpol info doc (living up to your name!)

Ohwoolballs · 23/04/2016 11:54

Rhubarb indom We woke up today covered in green snot (he's a really cuddly co sleeper) so think it might be a cold. I'll pop to the pharmacy and ask for a saline thingy. I've been using my pinky finger nail to pull massive globs out of his nostrils. Ew.
He's happy in himself though.

Fantastic news on the sleep indom it might not happen again for months but you can look back fondly at the memory (hah!)

french I'd plum forgotten about having a sleeping bag. G was far too small at birth but at 8lbs now I will give it a go. Hopefully it might make him more acceptable to the Moses basket.

me well done on the collective Saturday sleep in!

Paperblank · 23/04/2016 17:44

Wool Martha goes beserk if I go bogey fishing up her nose. She's been snuffly since her jabs, and there are some monsters up there!

We're a right lazy bones family... we went to subway for lunch which is across the road and we've spent the afternoon dozing!

dobbythedoggy · 23/04/2016 20:24

beaut the only way I can describe it is like someone suddenly decides to shoot a staple into the scar. Really sharp pain for a few seconds which faids quickly to a dull ache then a slight itch then disappears completely.

paper and wool I can't recommend a nasole asporator enough for clearing blocked little noses.

Me624 · 23/04/2016 20:46

I second the recommendation for nasal aspirators! DS was very congested after the birth which took several weeks to clear and even now at 7 weeks he gets very snotty every few days. We use saline spray to loosen everything up and then the aspirator to get it out. It's weirdly satisfying when you get massive bogeys out! Some of ds's bogeys are huge!

This is the second day in a row that DS hasn't pooed. He has gone a day without pooing several times before but never two days. I hope he goes tomorrow or I'll be getting worried! He is formula fed, I know breast fed babies can go quite a long time but I thought formula fed babies should be more regular.

ffauxlivia · 24/04/2016 00:45

Thanks for the warm welcome back ladies

me I worried about the same thing when S didn't poop for 2 days (she is breast and FF) and I called our paediatrician's office. The
nurse said that even on formula they can go 5 days without you needing to worry, but told me to give her half an ounce of prune juice. We didn't bother in the end as she went by herself that evening, but now her norm is one poop every 1-2 days!

Also if you have a rectal thermometer that is supposed to stimulate a bowel movement, or gently insert the very tip of a cotton wool bud and leaving it there for 10 secs. Prepare for an explosion if you do that Grin

1frenchfoodie · 24/04/2016 08:40

i know breastfed babies can go quite a long time ours definately needs to see this memo as it is still c. 5x a day and sling wearing is filled with trepidation given it can squeeze it everywhere. Lots of friends with bf babies are down to every 24/36h but at 5 wks we are still on constant poo patrol.

RhubarbAndMustard · 24/04/2016 08:51

Epic parenting fail! DS1 has just fed J cake! ShockConfusedBlushSad

I was emailing my solicitor about the redundancy so was stupidly distracted. Stupidly said yes to DS1 having the cake from yesterday's party (to give me 5 mins to send the email), hear J crying in his bouncy chair to find crumbs all in his mouth Shock. DS1 admits to giving him 2 bits but won't tell me how big. Am now panicking about what this will do to J- any ideas? He is 7 weeks.

He is breathing fine and have given him some water. He's now got a smug grin on his face. Should I be getting him checked out though?

Paperblank · 24/04/2016 09:30

Rhu Oh no! I have no idea. Would it be worth ringing NHS direct? I'm sure this happens all the time, but I would want reassurance just to be on the safe side.

Bless DS1 he was just sharing

Me624 · 24/04/2016 10:17

Rhu I'm sure he'll be absolutely fine but I think I'd ring 111 for reassurance too. I would think they'd vomit up anything their little stomachs can't cope with at this stage. I expect ds1 only gave him a tiny amount.

DS pooed this morning, phew! What a mess ... amazingly DH offered to deal with it as he hasn't done a pooey nappy for weeks - with DS only going once a day or less, it tends to happen when DH is at work! I was more than happy for him to take this one!

Is everyone else's babies starting to become a lot more vocal? DS is making lots of noises now when he's in his bouncy chair or on his playmat which is lovely!

RhubarbAndMustard · 24/04/2016 10:31

Thanks Paper and Me. DP has assured me that J will be fine so we've just kept an eye on him...and he's fine. DS1 keeps saying he is so, so sorry, bless him. I didn't expect J's first experience of solids to be cake but there we go.

Me glad DS finally poo'd! And even more glad for you that your DH did the honours!

MrsElls · 24/04/2016 12:38

Oh rhu I constantly worry about ds feeding Cassidy I don't know why as he NEVER shares food . I keep telling him that she can only eat milk to try to make him understand but I'm sure it will happen at some point!

QforCucumber · 24/04/2016 13:28

Glad he's ok rhu little ones just don't understand what they've done wrong sometimes and I can imagine it's tough to tell him off when he's just trying to include his baby brother.

me rory will sit on his playmat and chatter away to himself, getting a lot more smiles and he's awake much more during the day now too!

R was laid on the bed with us this morning in just his nappy, heard a noise and then saw a river of poo out of the side of his nappy all over our white duvet cover Hmm cover has washed fine but I decided to plonk the duvet in the bath (king size and won't fit it the machine) didn't cross my mind until now that I have to try and get it dry oops. Not rainy but not the nicest of days here, finger are crossed that being on the line from now until bedtime gets it dry otherwise we will have sleeping bags for cover tonight haha

Ohwoolballs · 24/04/2016 15:44

french G is a convayor belt of milk in - poo out. It's breast milk too so can be runny, at least it smells nice like malted biscuits OK. I read that with bf it can go either way, all the time because it's so easy for baby to digest or quite sparse because they get so much goodness out the milk there isn't much left over. Seems either is A-OK!

Rhubarb I'm sure J will be fine, worth keeping your eye on incase of a sudden upchuck. At least it's an amusing story for the future 😁

Q oh no! I hope you get it dry for tonight, what a nightmare!

Timetogrowup2016 · 24/04/2016 18:15

Evening all.
Was absolutely shattered yesterday evening as calais had several bad nights in a row so oh took over. I went to bed at 8pm and slept through until 11am with just one wake up I couldn't believe it. I've felt amazing today but am now dreading tonight as I know I'm back on night duty.
Me and oh have had a big clean up today and I must say it's so nice to be in a clean flat again as it was getting really messy. We also put up little ones cot and this morning after feeding she done her first proper smile after I said " are you a little pickle "
I gave into today and used a dummy as she's been so unsettled poor little mite.

We also are now on infant gaviscon as c was projectile vomiting after most feeds Friday day and night so we had an out of hours appointment yesterday. She was in so much pain eating screaming and arching from the bottle and had unbelievable issues with wind. I spent three hours winding her Friday and she done about thirty burps. Poor mite . Bit nervous about gaviscon causing consipation though. C does 4/5 big poos a day normally and is formula fed. I have now switched to the doctor browns bottles and using the gaviscon and she only threw up once last night so fingers crossed it works. Doctor diagnosed reflux

Hey time you've pretty much describes exactly the situation we have with Seren and her reflux. It's awful to see them in so much pain is taking it, so sorry you're going through this too

Funnily enough we just switched to Dr Browns bottles too. We've been on the US equivalent of gaviscon for almost a week but it hasn't made much difference so might have to go back to the docs this week. Can't believe we might be dealing with this for several more months potentially Sad cute pic though!

Glad J is okay rhu, definitely one to laugh about with them in the future!!

ffauxlivia · 25/04/2016 02:19

Wah sorry about all the typos there!

MrsElls · 25/04/2016 02:21

Hope the Gaviscon works time and she doesn't get constipated. Cassidy hasn't pooped at all today, she has had quite a lot of wind and seems do much happier after a good fart!

On the second night feed less than 3 hours after the first one here, her sleep stretches tend to get shorter as the night goes on so could be a long night....

Purpleprickles · 25/04/2016 03:10

Hello busy weekend here so just checking in after a night feed.

E poos sporadically, yesterday loads which I much prefer. She often strains and looks like she is about to poo but then doesn't. The HV says it's all normal but it does worry me if we get to the evening without a poo as she often looks like she has a tummy ache.

Time and Ffaux sorry to hear about the reflux, hope things improve soon.

Rhu I'm really glad J is ok, the end of your post did make me laugh though with the "smug grin" part. I imagine E would be the same if she got a taste of cake at this stage. The facial expressions she does sometimes are far too knowing for a six week old.

Me624 · 25/04/2016 05:58

Lovely photo Time. We do seem to have produced a bunch of cuties on this thread!

MrsElls DS is normally the same with the stretches of sleep getting shorter. Hope you got some sleep. Last night DS wanted his first night feed at 12.30 - he's been going to 1.30 or 2 most nights - so only 2 hours sleep for me Sad

He took a while to settle after that feed too and then started stirring at 4 but I managed to "snooze" him with Ewan the sheep and his dummy so I got an extra hour. Even when it's not a deep sleep it all helps! Hopefully he'll go back to sleep after this feed - it's hit and miss, some days he does, some he doesn't.

marmiteandcheeseplease · 25/04/2016 09:29

hey everyone been lurking but not posting past couple of days!

Commiserations to those dealing with wind/sick/unsettled babies. Had a few awful nights with E with terrible trapped wind, on top of her feeding every 2-3 hours (which is the norm for her). Even when she goes three hours between feeds (which is rare), once you take away feeding time, nappy changes, and trying to settle her, I'm only getting 1-2 hours sleep in between wake ups. What I would do for a three hour stretch of sleep! She hasn't had a poo in 4 or 5 days either Confused. She doesn't really cry during the day or complain much but come night time and she seems to really struggle and I can't settle her after a feed. Have been trying to do baby massage and bicycle kicks to clear the wind - did it this morning and she was farting like mad, one lasted about 10 seconds! I'm tempted to try infacol or something, but to be honest I know that the problem is my latch is still poor and she 'clicks' when feeding which means she is slipping off the boob. According to dr google this means she's taking in more air and can cause issues with wind. She's 5 and half weeks old now so I was hoping we would have sorted breastfeeding now but apparently not Hmm

stuck at home today as whilst we were away at the weekend we missed two attempted deliveries from Hermes, and now have to be in to collect this one or they'll send it back! It's my wedding dress as well, so I really want it as getting married in two weeks... told most of my family about it and the 'no guests' rule over the weekend and they all made a big fuss 'you have to have a party' etc ugh. they don't seem to want to take no for an answer! I'm also under pressure to change my surname which I don't want to/won't do. Will be glad when the fuss has died down...
