Ted is in size 3 nappies already! He wasn't huge when he was born (8lb 8oz) but he'd gained 2lb when he was weighed at 3 weeks. No idea what he weighs now at 7 weeks - we have HV next week and the post-natal check (they do the check and jabs at the same time up here so no check at 6 weeks).

CharleytheFrenchPoodle · 20/04/2016 11:40

Ours is similar Mrs- everything seems to be done at once to save having to go back and forth to the Drs. I think our checks and jabs will be at 8 weeks. Lovely to hear about everyone who is getting a lot of sleep! Nella woke at about 3 after falling asleep at 11 and then again about half 5. However, because she didn't really settle much until nearly half 4, it feels like I've been up since 3

My Caboo arrived this morning and I'm stupidly excited to try it out. Can I just ask to all you sling wearers- is there a difference with the amount of layers the baby should be wearing when in a sling as opposed to being in a pram? I'm guessing they may not need as many layers as they will get your body heat, but does that mean just a vest and sleep suit/outfit? I also imagine I'd be getting a bit warm wearing her as she's like a little hot water bottle! Grin

IndomitabIe · 20/04/2016 12:14

Charley, I usually keep DS2 in just a vest & sleepsuit but wear the wrap under my hoody & jacket so I can zip them round us both if it's chilly.

magpiedreams · 20/04/2016 13:18

Argh. We are having a Screamy McScreamerson day. I think it's poo related, willing a poo...!

Ohwoolballs · 20/04/2016 14:22

Hello folks, I have been reading but not posting as I'm doing most of my catching up during the 4am feed 😄

Paper M sounds hilarious and somewhat similar to G. He's an explosive trumper and does little Wallace (from Wallace and Gromit) hands when he does a doozy. He's really not a burper or an upchucker though.

Vroc Dread! That's the exact word I needed. It gets to 9pm and I start dreading night time. G will start crying, rooting but not eating, staring round the room... All of a sudden at 11/12 he will take a boob and settle in till 2/3. We've taken him out in the car twice 😳 Which has actually been a nice quiet time for me and DP to chat!
We've started giving him Coleif but I keep sticking him on the boob and then seeing the bottle across the room 😧 So then I either have to put him down or try and juggle him over it and sneak it in.

Purpleprickles · 20/04/2016 15:12

Wool sorry to hear you are having bad evenings! Apparently my inlaws used to drive dh around to calm him at night. I think whatever works and keeps you sane!

E and I are in the garden, she is snoozing in the pram in the shade and I'm enjoying the sun. I wonder if she is having a growth spurt because she has napped a lot today. Although I'm not convinced she went off properly after the 4am feed, there was a lot of grunting but then I went to sleep. She seemed to be grunting again at 7 when I woke up so she may have been grunting for hours Blush

We had our six week HV check today. They seem to be more available here now than they were with ds. E now weighs 8lb 7oz so a proper chunk compared to her birth weight. She has also started really smiling these last two days and making cooing noises, both of which she did for the HV. Basically she was showing off!

Had an email from my boss today inviting me to a management meeting next week. It was very informal and come if you can/want. I don't know how to feel, am partly flattered that I'm seemingly an important part of the team but equally annoyed because it's only 6 weeks into mat leave. She did say something about getting a babysitter which I was a bit like Hmm I don't have anyone to ask even if I did want to. It's tricky because I love my job and the team and I do want to go back part time if I can negotiate it but I'm not ready to be doing work things yet. She is actually a very good boss so probably wants me to feel included in future planning and I'm just being all Hmmabout it.

TriJo · 20/04/2016 18:22

Have just moved C into size 2 nappies at 3 weeks - he was leaking at night a lot in the 1's and it has made a difference putting bigger ones on him! Got a 54 pack in Waitrose for just over a fiver, Pampers were 1/3 off when I was in there yesterday...

My parents are over at the moment, they're being incredibly helpful which is really nice considering DH went back to work this week and any help is great. My dad seems to have the magic touch with making C sleep, my mum has the magic touch with making him poo...

Still contemplating the buggy issue - literally the only good thing about our travel system is that C sleeps really well in the carrycot, the rest of it is pure shite. Too wide at the back and caused me some embarrassing moments on public transport, also need to split it in two to get it up to our first floor apartment. Went looking with my mum yesterday, she absolutely loved the Baby Jogger City Mini but I'm still looking around...

SadSad

Moo has had her jabs today. My poor little sausage face is so unhappy. She squealed when they gave her her first jab and Andy and I have cuddled her since the second we got home.

She's cried every time we've so much as moved an inch and despite giving her calpol she's had a really shitty horrible time.

We bumped into one of the couples from our ante-natal group at the Dr's, it was obviously baby clinic day, and the place was overun with little squawking babies. I piped up "oh you here for their jabs too?" She told me that their little boy was stillborn a month ago Sad.

I feel so sad for them - I cannot imagine how painful it must be. I just hugged them both and told them I was so sorry. I couldn't think of anything else to do. We talked about their little boy, saw his picture (he was just a perfect beautiful little chap) and acknowledged that he was here, he was loved and will always on their minds and in their hearts.

I am hugging my precious girl just that bit closer x

IndomitabIe · 20/04/2016 19:35

Oh, paper that's so sad SadSadSad

Me624 · 20/04/2016 20:15

Paper how awful. It sounds like you said all the right things, I am terrible at knowing what to say when people have bad news.

I've heard that a lot of babies have bad reactions to the meningitis jab. DS has his in 3 weeks, not looking forward to it.

We have the doctor tomorrow for both of our 6 week checks. I wanted to get the doctor to check my stitches but my period started yesterday Confused (annoyingly I only got 2 days respite after my lochia finishing!) I think I'll just have to go to the loo when I get there and get as clean as I can as I do want the stitches checked although they have been feeling better the last week or so.

I have put DS in a size 2 nappy for the first time tonight too TriJo! He is 7 weeks. It seemed huge on him so I hope we don't get any leakage tonight!

Paperblank · 20/04/2016 20:38

I feel stupid saying it but I've got myself quite upset over it.

I think I'm also upset that they were surrounded by babies at the Dr's which feels very tactless (and then I go stomping in with my size 7's...stupid) They were both so incredibly brave talking about their little boy and to engage with Martha as well, I don't know how they had the strength to do it.

Me I have asked DH to come with me to M's next lot of jabs. He held her, and he's barely let her go since. Give DS some calpol straight after and then another 2 doses 4-6 hrs apart. M is having her last dose at 10 and I'm hoping that having a good feed alongside the Calpol will mean she wakes up back to her normal self.

The dr didn't check my stitches at my 6 week check - she just asked if everything was okay "down below" I said I think so and then she said had we thought about contraception to which I replied "No, we're going to try for dc2 so we're just going to see what happens"

My stitches had disolved after 3 weeks and as far as I know I was all healed up - if the dr doesn't offer to check request that they do!

marmiteandcheeseplease · 20/04/2016 21:26

Oh paper that's so sad Sad not surprised you've gotten upset about it. Sounds like you said/did the right thing though, ived got no idea what I would say in that situation and would probably make a right hash of it.

I've also heard that most/many babies react badly to the men b vacc with high temps. DPs brother and SIL refused it, I assume for that reason. They haven't/won't give their baby calpol for some reason and from what I've heard you have to give them it after the jab before leaving the doctors. Is that right? We haven't booked E in for her jabs yet - I was going to ring the drs this week but we might be taking part in a clinical trial where they are testing the best order/timing for vaccinations and I'm still waiting to hear from the study team.

I'm pretty sure my stitches healed up a while back and my lochia has finally finished, yay! I'm not expecting my period for a while as breastfeeding but no doubt I'll be one of the unlucky ones who gets it early! Think I'm going to get the coil fitted - after DD1 I had the implant which was fine but meant I never had periods, which I know some people like but I found it a bit weird and I'm not hugely keen on hormonal contraception.

marmiteandcheeseplease · 20/04/2016 21:32

Oh also re nappies: we've moved into cloth now during the day which I much prefer, but haven't braved cloth at night. Still using size ones and have had no leaks yet. I've no idea how big El is but I think she's just starting to grow out of them.

Has anyone elses babies hair started to fall out yet? El is developing a bald patch at the front of her head. That and terrible baby acne on her face and neck means she looks like a spotty old man! DD1 also lost her hair really quickly an it grew back fast so at 2 and a half she has a proper full head of hair which is really long.

Ohwoolballs · 20/04/2016 22:41

Oh Paper that's awful, that poor couple 😢 Massive hug.

We were finally discharged from the midwife today! G now weighs 7/15 which is up from his birth weight of 6/2 in just under four weeks, I am very chuffed. My milk is mostly Yorkshire tea, cheese and bananas but it seems like ambrosia cream to this chubby baby. Also, he is finally fitting into new born clothes properly.

Marmite Yes! In 48 hours G has lost all his hair on top! He looks like a monk (or taking his dad's hairline...😉) no cradle cap or anything. I think it's because he sleeps face down on our chests or on his side next to me (literally done about 6 hours all together on his back in the basket.) fingers crossed their hair grows back soon.

Just found out the Tour De Yorkshire is going through our village and past our house. (I have been a bit pre occupied lately and didn't think to check till now 😁) I am really excited as one of the only things I managed to knit for G is a rainbow striped winners jersey. It's terrible and cute at the same time.

QforCucumber · 20/04/2016 23:34

Ooo wool it's headed through here too, all the bikes and banners have been going up over the last few days, looks lovely!
marmite yup ds Is losing his too, it makes him look like he has a fantastic receding hairline haha.

1 month old and weighing 10lbs 9oz. He seems huge compared to all these teeny ones!

Purpleprickles · 21/04/2016 00:01

Q gorgeous boy! Marmite we also have a bald baby here. She literally has little tufts at the back now and that is it.

Paper that is terrible, it sounds like you handled it really well. That poor couple.

Me624 · 21/04/2016 01:40

DS waking for his first night feed early tonight Sad he never goes very long for his second stretch either so I expect I will be up at 4.30 too!

Q he is lovely!

I'm looking forward to finding out what DS weighs today at the doctor - he was 9lb2 last time I had him weighed 2 weeks ago at 5 weeks old. I predict he'll be 10lb something now.

DS hasn't lost any hair yet which is nice. He doesn't have much anyway though! marmite snap with the awful baby acne!

Paperblank · 21/04/2016 03:17

My beautiful chunky monkey xxx

M had baby acne which has left her skin a but dry and she's got the little bald patch, it is an unattractive stage!!

All seems to be getting back to normal now - we can actually move without M screaming and she's just had 3oz. Hoping she wakes up happy!

Ohwoolballs · 21/04/2016 06:07

Morning, beautiful babies Q and Paper

Gs acne is mostly on his neck which is making me even more antsy about wiping and drying after feeds than I normally am (much to his annoyance!)

I spent our 1ish and 4ish feeds reading the "what went wrong at your wedding?" Thread which kept me amused!

RhubarbAndMustard · 21/04/2016 06:22

Gorgeous babies Q and Paper.

Paper your previous post was so sad. You handled that situation so well.

Wool I read it too which kept me from my sleep!

My HV said Calpol def needed for these jabs. I hadn't really registered how bad it was going to be. Dreading them now.

Here is J finally smiling.....for a giraffe!!

Crispylicious · 21/04/2016 07:20

Aww gorgeous babies! Check out that smile rhu, gorgeous!

paper that is so sad. A couple of friends have had still born babies and it was one of my big fears. Sounds like you and they handled it v well. How do you ever get over something like that?

marmite snap at the hair loss and baby acne! Poor spotty bold babies!

So R decided to scream most of yesterday evening. It was awful. He was hysterical a lot of the time and our normal tricks didn't work. He did do several poos over the course of the evening, so I think that was the issue. He then slept really well, presumably exhausted from the screaming!

His nappies quite often have clear/yellow mucous in them - has anyone else noticed this? Don't know if it's normal or not, or if we should take him to the GP.

Timetogrowup2016 · 21/04/2016 07:56

Paper- bless martha. Hope she feels better soon.
C had no reaction to the jabs other than being very sleepy and loss of appetite for 24 hours. She didn't seem in pain though and wasn't fussy at all . Just to reassure you all it doesn't have to be dreadful. The worst part was when they did the jabs. She munched down that calpol though- she loved it.
A smile from my girl

Morning Brew

M is back to her normal self and despite thinking we'd have a rubbish night she was fine.

Calpol rocks!

Purpleprickles · 21/04/2016 08:42

Lovely pictures of the smiley babies. I'll add mine in too. E slept well last night but dh and I swapped round our shift so he could have an earlier night. It's completely thrown us as we both feel out of sync so we won't be trying that again Smile

I'm dreading the jabs as I've read in quite a few places that the meningitis one is bad. Ds was never affected by injections but then the meningitis one wasn't available then. I'm hoping E will be ok, we don't have her's for another few weeks. I could only get an appt at 9 weeks for us as the baby clinic at the doctors is one day a week and very busy.
