I was also getting fed up of pads already, but then my lochia mysteriously stopped yesterday - day 8 Hmm seems to good to be true, keep thinking it'll start again but 36 hours still nothing...

Sending hopeful vibes to all those trial long infacol, gaviscon etc. FX for happier babies and therefore parents very soon.

marmiteandcheeseplease · 07/04/2016 19:46

time sorry to hear Calais has had a fussy day. Fingers crossed you get an easier evening!

Am also fed up of pads, three weeks now and although lochia is light its not looking to stop anytime soon Hmm

E seems OK after the hospital drama today, think I found it more stressful to be honest! Have antibiotics to give her four times a day for seven days, bit of a nightmare, tried to give her some earlier and she spat a fair amount out. Sigh. Also the pharmacist told me I had to give it to her at least an hour before eating and two hours after food, I told him that was impossible to do with a bf baby on demand who rarely goes there hours between feeds and whose feeding is not predictable and he shrugged and said it works better in an empty stomach... So not sure how effective they will be anyway. On the plus side, they weighed her at the hospital and she's gaining weight really well, is up to 3.98kg now - 8lb 12 up from 7lb 5 at birth! Consultant plotted her weight on growt chart and said she was doing really well, which made me feel a bit better.

Timetogrowup2016 · 07/04/2016 20:04

Getting really annoyed now. Calais berm fussing since 7:30 am this morning.
Just go to sleep baby!!! Ahh.
:(
So fed up and nothing I do works.
Glad she is Ok marmite . Sounds hard timing the anti biotics

TheMshipIsBack · 07/04/2016 20:16

Oooh it's been ages since I've been here! Congratulations many times over to all the new babies and more importantly their mums Flowers

Tamsin could compete for Scotland in the nursing and burping biathlon. She's gained almost 2 lb since birth and is pushing 11 lb, will be into her 3-6 month vests next week. DH went back to work on Monday and I'm coping ok with DS and Tam together, but it's hell on my back, she's happiest carried or in the sling.

dobbythedoggy · 07/04/2016 21:12

Before and 3 days after hair wash! It's so fluffy and literally standing on end. Constantly get stopped with people asking about his hair. And one pair of ladies, out with their beautiful vintage silvercross prams and slightly scarry reborn doll, who think there should be a reborn doll like him!

Sorry you've had a fussy day today time. Eddy is really fussy this evening. Just taken almost 2 hours to get him to latch and settle doen for more than a few sucks at a time. A few hours is stressful enough, over 12 hours must feel like hell, awful when you know they just need to sleep or feed but they can't settle.

marmite sounds like a stressful and emotional day. Good luck with the antbiotics. Personally dreading the need to dose with calpol post 8 week injections.

Eddy has had the all clear on his hip scan, so will be discharged so long as the radiographer is happy with them too. Relieved after years of scans and x rays with dd.

Glad E is OK now marmite. I laughed a lot at the very precise timings the consultant gave you for the antibiotics. Good luck with getting a hungry newborn to wait 'at least an hour' for a feed Confused.

Rhu I have no idea why so many gps are weird about prescribing gaviscon - its only a thickener, its not like you're giving a newborn some super strong drug. The gp I saw with ds1 told me she wouldn't prescribe it because it would only make him constipated (it didn't).

Q silly question but when you say half a sachet do you mean one half of a double sachet?

I haven't even got round to registering W's birth yet, let alone registering him with the gp, so can't get a prescription just yet anyway!

QforCucumber · 07/04/2016 21:43

I was given 14 sachets, so 7 pairs. And literally using half of a half if that makes sense? So tear it open, sprinkle half into a ramekin and fold it over saving the other half for that evening. Dr said ad he's only 18 days it should be a sufficient portion size and seems to be ok so far. I had to go to the walk in clinic to get the prescription but he is now registered at our gp as dp was there a few days ago and filled in the forms for us. We had to make an appointment to register his birth and it's not until the 22nd April!!

time have you tried playing some kind of white noise app? The hoover or running a bath send R straight to sleep so downloaded an app and just out my phone bear him and play vacuuming noises and he soon drifts off.

dobby that's great news about bring signed off! Bet that's a weight lifted massively for you!

Awww no matter how much he screams he is a bit cute Grin

QforCucumber · 07/04/2016 21:44

I put my phone near him I do not 'out my phone bear him' ??!!

Missikat · 08/04/2016 04:55

It's quiet on here tonight! Hope that's because all your babies are letting you get some sleep finally!

Q, glad to hear the gaviscon is doing a good job for your little man (he's very cute btw, love the outfit!). It's great that only half a sachet twice a day is doing the job, we're on half a sachet every feed - which is an arse as, unlike DS1 who used the just gulp it down out of a bottle mid breast feed mixed with water, Zach is wise to it and knows it's not milk. He protests massively and will be pushing away the bottle with his hands and screaming. I've tried syringe and spoon and he just spits it out, tried it mixed with a little milk like Indom suggested, same result. He must be getting some down tho as the vomiting has massively reduced and his weight at Wednesdays weigh in was 3.06kg/6lb 11.5oz, up 6.5oz in 6 days which is awesome! My boy is no longer a tiny baby! (Well, he's still tinier than all on here though I think!)

Rhu, hope the gaviscon continues to work for you and helps little man to relax and be in less discomfort.

Marmite, hope you've recovered from the horrible sounding boil experience and E is ok.

Great weight gains Mship, Mamite,Tri and Vroc!

trinpy, hope you manage to get some more gaviscon and help your little man to settle again.

Has anyone taken any of their DCs (or themselves)) to a cranial osteopath? I've heard from a couple of friends that they can really help with reflux and other issues, particularly if babies had a traumatic birth (which Zach did as his head was stuck for 10 mins after his body was born...he was breech). I've noticed he seems quite still/tense in his arms and legs and wondering if it may help this and his puking (although the gaviscon is working wonders).

Indom and Time, hope you've both got some rest tonight.

Wooden, awesome sleep! Go Dexter!

Purpleprickles · 08/04/2016 06:08

Dobby and Q beautiful babies! Smile

Well done for the weight gain to so many of you. E feels so heavy so I'm excited/nervous to see what she has gained next week.

Missi a friend of mine absolutely swears by cranio osteopathy. She took her son and says if worked wonders.

Time sorry you have had a fussy day with C. I have to admit so envious of your 8 hours last night though.

E has been doing 4 hours between feeds in the day so why at night is it three? Just finished another feed now and am shattered so back to sleep hopefully.

Timetogrowup2016 · 08/04/2016 07:29

She re payed me with a decent night. I went to bed at nine.
Left her with the oh.
He fed at her 10 and she settled fine after.
Then I fed at her at 1:30 and 4:40 and now at 7 she has woke for 1 oz and now crashed out on my lap.
She took about an hour to feed and settle each time so not to bad.
Might have an afternoon nap later though. Oh finishes at 1pm today yay.
Also calais has had a cold for two weeks now. I was thinking of maybe phoning the doctors today should I ?

Timetogrowup2016 · 08/04/2016 07:53

I do use white noise. Not sure if it works or not lol

Timetogrowup2016 · 08/04/2016 08:09

Appointment at 2:30 today :)

dobbythedoggy · 08/04/2016 09:33

Glad you've got an appointment time. All the drs I've seen since having dd have always been quick to reasure me that they are happy to see a baby or young child. The gp and ooh gp I've seen with Eddy were both delighted to see him as they got to have a cuddle. When they are so small if you are at all worried just get them checked. She a little beauty!

Timetogrowup2016 · 08/04/2016 09:38

Thank you.
How's eddy today?
I hate seeing calais struggle to feed so much because of her nose. We have saline drops but they don't seem to do much.
She still has a huge appetite though. 9oz so far today. Plenty of dirty nappies and very alert still so I'm sure she's ok but being prem I'm a bit worried about her breathing as it's very snuffly even though I had steroids so I hope her lungs are ok.
Glad oh will be able to help me get her out the house later so much easier with two isn't it .
Daddy bought her this t shirt lol. Massive at the moment but he just wanted to try it on her.
Does anyone think she is trying to smile in this photo ?

Timetogrowup2016 · 08/04/2016 09:44

Also I have my eight weeks jab next week

I take it zach is the only baby on here to have had them ?
Wasn't their a baby born around calais birthday though ? She was 16.02

QforCucumber · 08/04/2016 10:57

Has anyone else had an overwhelming feeling of 'I just can't do this'? Ds screamed the house down from 3am until 7am, he cried, I cried - nothing calmed him. Dp couldn't really do much as had to leave for work at 6am. He now tells me he wants to have a drink tonight so I'll have no help tonight either.
Just wish I knew why he was crying......really wanted to shout shut up at him and that's not like me at all. Its so tough on nights like that but certainly doesn't help when I'm annoyed at dp too. We slept from 7-10 and now he's screaming again, he's fed, changed, cuddled, winded, been sick. Arghhhhhhhhh.

Timetogrowup2016 · 08/04/2016 10:59

Yes calais was like rhos yesterday.
Tbh your husband should not be drinking tonight he should be helping you. I think that's really unfair of him.
It won't be like this all the time but it's so tough isn't it. No advice but calais did eventually calm.

Woodenmouse · 08/04/2016 12:34

I'm sorry to hear that Q can you tell your dh you would like some help tonight and ask him to go out another night?

QforCucumber · 08/04/2016 13:01

wooden I did exactly that about half an hour ago and he said he'd already realised he wasnt being fair and was going to bring home a fish and chip tea and not go out. Think the lack of sleep made me angry without actually speaking to him.

Timetogrowup2016 · 08/04/2016 13:04

Good to hear q :) how's baby today ?

Purpleprickles · 08/04/2016 13:53

Q I have no idea on the reasons for crying but ThanksBrew for you. Can you get out the house for a walk? It might be the last thing you want to do but E loves the motion of the pram and I think the fresh air knocks her out sometimes. Also I remember my mum telling me with ds that there is nothing wrong with putting a screaming baby down safely and shutting the door to give yourself 5 mins thinking time or making a cup of tea time. I also used to tell ds to shut up when it got bad so that is a normal feeling too. Glad you dh is coming home tonight!

Me624 · 08/04/2016 13:54

Q I know how you feel. I've had nights where DS won't settle when I've picked him up out of his Moses basket and got really frustrated with him, hissing why won't you just sleep!! at him. Poor little thing. I feel guilty in the morning when I am calmer and see his angelic little face. Sleep deprivation is so tough.

Time glad you're going to the doctor. DS was really congested for the first 2-3 weeks and it was horrible watching him struggle. I would recommend a humidifier, we bought a Vicks one and it really seemed to help DS.

DS is being a bit of a pain this morning. He hasn't had a proper sleep all morning, only half an hour or so. He will only fall asleep on me and then the moment I try to put him down he starts screaming!

MrsBenWyatt · 08/04/2016 14:04

Q sorry you had a bad night, but I am pleased your OH saw sense and is going to help.

Hope Calais is better soon, Time.

I am feeling like a superhero today. I walked into town with all three children, took DS1 for a settling in session at his pre-school, walked to hairdresser with baby and DD to get her hair cut, back to nursery to collect DS1 and then home again. Ted was in the sling from 9-11.30 and slept the whole time. We are now all slumped on the sofa watching Monster House!!

I am aiming to put him down for a nap around ninety minutes max after he wakes each time, which works OK unless DS1 wakes him!

Trinpy · 08/04/2016 14:44

Thanks for the advice about the gaviscon Q. I'm trying the same with half a sachet twice a day from today. Glad your dh realised he is needed at home tonight. I get the feeling of being totally overwhelmed by it all too. I had my first day on my own with both dcs on Saturday and I just couldn't cope at all, it was awful. I do remember it all gests a lot easier around the 6 week mark though - just need to battle through the next 3 weeks Smile.

MrsBen I honestly have no idea how you are managing so well with 2 older dcs and a newborn Shock.
