Me I'm pretty sure Rhu's DS was born on the 3rd too :)

dobbythedoggy · 07/04/2016 08:28

indom really hope you managed to get some sleep or that you are able to today.

Fingers crossed dd appears to be returning to her usual self now she's got used to being a big sister. She's not pushing the boundaries so much and actually wants to go out and do things we used to do.

Taking Eddy for his hip scan this morning. So must actually work on leaving the house...

MyNameIsSuz · 07/04/2016 08:36

Sorry to all those with bad sleep. S's feeding has gone mad too, marmite did you say there was a 20 day growth spurt? Last night, with the exception of 45 minutes when I ate my dinner, she fed from 5 in the evening til 1am. By the end my boobs felt like empty sacks and she was really fussing. I don't think the antibiotics I'm on are helping either, I think it's affecting her tummy and she's been quite unsettled. I'm trying to look on the bright side, at least I'll have burned off the packet of Oreos I ate yesterday!

Hope the gaviscon keeps working for you q, I couldn't believe how quickly it changed ds when he had it. I used to make it up with cooled boiled water so no expressing, and squirt it in with a calpol syringe.

RhubarbAndMustard · 07/04/2016 08:38

Yep you're right Beaut, 5 weeks today too Smile.

It definitely could be a growth spurt Me, but the over eating has been going on pretty much since end of week 1. At 2-3 weeks I thought a growth spurt, then last week put it down to his cold. A few days ago my friend (who happens to be a HV) saw what he was like and tried herself to distract him between feeds without much luck, so she said to get him checked by GP for silent reflux like Indom has mentioned. He does gag/retch quite a lot without actually being sick. Most of the symptoms fit except for the excessive eating but she thinks he's doing that for comfort to cool his throat. The only thing is DS1 was a big eater too so could also just be genetic. So hard to know but will feel better getting him checked over. Appt is at 11.

vroc81 · 07/04/2016 08:45

Sorry you had a bad night indom hope you might get a brief opportunity to put your head down today.

Rhu will be interested to see what your GP says, I'm going to the clinic this morning to get her weighed, speak to the breast feeding support and I was going to ask them about it, almost as you described she's very very uncomfortable after eating arching her back, straining and squeaking and seems to only settle when eating so bit concerned the clinic are going to tell me she's too heavy (do they do that with 3 week old babies?)

I have managed to increase my pumping volumes though, would like to get her off formula top ups completely and see if that helps.

Q we've been using white noise when she's almost gone to sleep enough to put down but not totally and works well, there's some free white noises on the mothercare app if anyone wants to try it although only 5 minutes worth so do have to keep repeating it if they've not gone..

Sorry to hear everyone had rough nights. I feel bad saying Dex slept for 7 & 1/2 hours. He was feeding all evening though so it was a bit of a trade off. I think he's having a growth spurt!!

marmiteandcheeseplease · 07/04/2016 09:29

I've also been using white noise apps on my phone/tablet. Don't know if it helps but not going to test it by stopping using it!

Yes, suz there is a growth spurt around the three week mark, so could be that. E didn't feed any more than usual overnight but yesterday was on the boob all day and has been wanting boob this morning more than usual. She's been asleep the past 45 mins and I really should have spent that time getting dressed/brushing my teeth etc instead of lazing on the bed faffing around on the internet as she's just starting to wake and fuss now and no doubt will want more boob!

Found a large and angry looking boil on E's bottom yesterday, freaked me right out. Got a GPs appointment this morning to check it out, though from looking on Dr google it seems they go away eventually by themselves.

vroc if you're bf they generally don't worry about lots of weight gain/being too heavy. DPS neice is exclusively bf and went from 75th percentile to 98th! And the HV never showed any concern - its very hard to overfeed a bf baby so if they gain lots of weight/eat a lot that's just the way they're made. From experience of friends I know who formula fed HV etc can get a bit funny about weight gain in ff babies as its possible to inadvertently overfeed when feeding from a bottle apparently.

IndomitabIe · 07/04/2016 10:03

Rhu be prepared to be fobbed off by them saying his weight is fine. Push for a trial of gaviscon at least.

RhubarbAndMustard · 07/04/2016 10:58

Marmite is right. My HV was constantly weighing DS1 as she thought he was gaining weight too quickly. I think that why I'm over cautious this time round and want to get a Drs check before HV panics.

Thanks Indom. Will try my hardest!

RhubarbAndMustard · 07/04/2016 12:29

Dr agreed that symptoms suggest silent reflux and she's given us the Gaviscon- result! Fx for a happier baby.

Woodenmouse · 07/04/2016 12:51

That's good news rhu I hope it helps

Trinpy · 07/04/2016 13:45

Glad you got the gaviscon sorted Rhu. The difference it can make is amazing.

Pretty sure that William has reflux. I was getting a little suspicious that he was feeding so much and bringing up so much milk after every feed, but things got much worse yesterday - he was just feeding and crying all day, barely slept, even in the sling. Trying to get ds to bed was a nightmare as he obviously couldn't sleep with a baby crying. Luckily I still had some gaviscon left over from when ds1 was a baby so I gave him a sachet at bedtime and we had a lovely calm night. Unfortunately I've only got a couple of boxes left so I'll have to brave the doctors at some point to beg for some more.

In happier news, my lovely ds1 turned 2 today Smile.

marmiteandcheeseplease · 07/04/2016 14:13

Glad you got the gaviscon rhu, hope things improve.

Had a bit of a nightmare day - went to doctors at 11 about E's boil, doctor was a bit unsure how to treat it so referred me to A&E to see paediatrician. Had to come to a&e which took ages, saw junior doctor who wasn't sure how to treat it so had to wait till consultant available, then by the time he turned up to have a look at it, the boil had popped. Was really gross and tbh am glad i was in the hospital when it happened as I would have freaked right out if it had happened at home. He then had to squeeze it to get everything out, it was pretty gory and El was really distressed so was really hard to keep calm, though she's fine now and asleep in the sling. Now waiting for antib for her and have follow up appt on Monday. going to head home after this, have a cup of tea and sit on my arse for the rest of the day...

vroc81 · 07/04/2016 14:18

Glad you got it sorted Rhu

Happy birthday mini Trinpy 1

Well we've jumped from the 50th to 91st percentile weighing in 9lb1 at 19 days (7lb14 at birth) but HV wasn't too bothered if she was mostly on expressed milk.. In fact HV wasn't much use at all, expressed my breast feeding concerns and got the now classic to our local health service "sounds like your doing it all right just persevere" good job I'm not just trying to BF without expressing or we'd have long since been back in hospital. Has anyone used the NCT boob line? And when I said she seemed uncomfortable after eating that's also normal... Hmmmm might add her an appointment to my BP check at doctors next week.

Calais is a right moany moo today.
She has slept 2 hours only since 7:30 and I can only get her to sleep in her bouncer ahh!
Last night 9-10pm screamed and couldn't be calmed. Tried feeding, winding, rocking, holding, putting down nothing worked. Thank god she let us have eight hours broken sleep last night though.

Today she has taken 2oz at 7:30.
1oz at 8:30
.2oz at 10:30
1oz at 11:30
2oz at 12:30
1oz at 1:30
Just constant feeding n crying

QforCucumber · 07/04/2016 16:16

Oh time I feel for you - Rory was like that until we got the infacol. It's made a world of difference.

trinpy doc has given me the gaviscon but told me to use half a sachet at a time, half on a morning half before bed and it's working wonderfully - might help to stretch out your box by only using half? Glad you got some too rhu hope it works as well as it has done for us. Fingers crossed.

Ooo marmite sounds scary - good to know there were medics around to help though as like you I wouldn't have a clue what to do in that situation!

Have expressed 3oz this morning so going to try Rory on a bottle for his evening feed, if we can introduce that then mil has offered to take him for a couple of hours on the 23rd so dp and I can attend a friends 30th birthday meal together. Figure starting it now will mean it's not such a shock for him.

Timetogrowup2016 · 07/04/2016 16:34

I have started on infacol today.
Binge watching one born today on 4 catch up. Feels strange watching it after having a baby

RhubarbAndMustard · 07/04/2016 16:39

Marmite thank goodness you were at the hospital when it burst. You deserve Thanks for your day today! *

Vroc* definitely worth checking with GP too if the symptoms are similar to J's. I've found that some HV's just aren't that great.

Trinpy hope you get a fresh prescription when you need it. It's odd why it's such a battle to get it prescribed by some doctors. My GP said there is certainly no harm in trying it.

Time think you need Thanks and Wine too.

Gave J the Gaviscon at 12 in a 4 ounce bottle and he's been asleep ever since. Usually he would have been crying in discomfort and rooting for food the whole time and definitely would have had another bottle by now. Think will take Q's advice of half a sachet and see if that is sufficient before bedtime.

RhubarbAndMustard · 07/04/2016 16:41

Gah, bold fail again. Stupid phone.

Timetogrowup2016 · 07/04/2016 16:57

Baby sleeping in her basket now ! Result. She better re pay with a good night lol.

Tmi but anyone had their period yet? Mine started three days ago. Very heavy but zero cramps

Timetogrowup2016 · 07/04/2016 16:58

Gave her a bath to calm her down and swaddled her and seems to be ok at the minute

Me624 · 07/04/2016 17:34

marmite hope E is ok now poor little thing.

vroc I used the NCT breastfeeding helpline when I was still bfing. Honestly I didn't find it that helpful - the person who called me back was lovely but there's not a lot someone can really do over the phone and most of what she said I already knew - I think it's far better to go to a local support group in person where someone can watch you.

Time I haven't had a period yet and at 5 weeks post birth my lochia hasn't stopped yet! It's not heavy but I definitely still need to wear a pad. I'm getting fed up of the horrible sweaty pad feeling so I really hope it stops soon.

TriJo · 07/04/2016 18:01

Me Conor is only 10 days old and I have had it up to HERE with pads, I hate the feckin things!

Had a midwife appointment this afternoon - he's up to 3.66kg (8lb 2oz) which is great considering he had dropped to 3kg on the nail a week ago. He also peed on both me and the maternity support worker...

Timetogrowup2016 · 07/04/2016 18:04

My lochia didn't stop until three days before my period.
Too scared to use tampons but I really want to lol. Hate pads.
