Same here with eating. I don't know what to give her or when. Sometimes she's in the mood sometimes she's not. The easiest thing is a weetabix first thing in the morning but even that's hit and miss depending on how much time we have in the morning.

I did try an ellas kitchen pouch yesterday which she loved. Although I'm trying to do baby led weaning, she has now learned to chew so figured giving her this now should be ok. It's just useful for those days I don't know what to give her.

loveandsmiles · 16/02/2016 06:21

Happy 6 months molly🎈. Lovely pics. Babyloves still can't sit up, or move!

I have been up all night - babyloves has a heavy cold and terrible cough - it sounds weird such a big cough coming out of such a tiny person! She just wants held upright. Get her settled then the coughing startsSad. Eventually settled her at 4.30am but I get up at 5am on a school morning so just got up - hopefully baby and toddler will snuggle on sofa with me later.

I find it hard fitting food in too - ideally it would be lovely if babyloves sat with us at lunch / tea time but sometimes she is tired or just not in the mood for food - it will change as they grow older. Toddler loves playing with the baby - it's almost like she has a real, live doll - she chats, sings and dances away to her - wondered what she was doing with her yesterday as I heard her say "good girl eating all your lunch!" - omg - she was stuffing blueberries in her mouth - babyloves lying on her playmat looking like a little chipmunk with a mouth full of blueberries.

ruby242 · 16/02/2016 07:03

Thankyou I think it might have been teething pain-not much crying last night so hopefully better now (...not much sleep either though, 2hr was the longest stretch but at least he settled quickly)

What beautiful photos fanby!

We seem to have no routine with eating-sometimes I give DS 3 meals a day, sometimes he has 2 and they are at random times as depends when we are home. He only eats small amounts at the moment so I guess it doesn't matter too much. Just done purées so far but looking forward to introducing some finger foods.

Coconut the garden swing sounds so peaceful!

Dozy I've found the Ella's pouches really useful when out and about, DS loves them

Loves sounds like a very difficult night for you, I do hope you get some rest later. Your toddler sounds adorable!!

kbro79 · 16/02/2016 16:26

It is v hard to fit food. Esp with my little nap fighter taking forever to fall asleep. That said he is doing better on the naps today. Had an hour and a half nap in the sling and is napping again now. Possibly because he had a shocker last night. Although I did get some sleep so Brew for you loves Hope you, toddler and babyloves are snuggled up.

Got up and draggggggeeed myself and DS to yoga with 20 seconds to spare only to discover that last week was the last week. Doh. Still yoga is near aldi so full of chocolate now. Some woman nearly felt the brunt of my sleep deprived rage though when decided to tell me I didn't have DS wrapped up warm enough. Mind your own love!!

Happy 6 month Molly!! How was your hols???

Am off out for pizza tonight. Good luck with bedtime DH! I was in such a strop with him this morning for no reason. Feel v bad. Will make it up to him by having an extra slice of pizza tonight. Wink

Tindel · 16/02/2016 16:50

kbro I had someone in the supermarket rubbing J's feet while he was in the sling this morning and telling him he was cold and she was warming him up. I resisted the urge to slap her hands away.

J is currently napping on me. Met up with some of my NCT friends and was sightly encouraged to learn the one who has this strict nap schedule for her baby is having him wake up every hour in the night. For all our struggles, at least we don't have that Smile

ruby242 · 16/02/2016 18:25

Kbro we had a good day with naps too, had two hour long ones which is good for DS! How annoying about the class-we have done that before in half term too. Glad you got some chocolate though and enjoy your pizza tonight!! 😀

Yes I've had the cold comment towards DS before too, i think older people worry about babies and the cold. I just ignore, DS is a hot baby.

Bath time now, DH away with work so hoping DS behaves and goes to sleep easily tonight!

EffinIneffable · 16/02/2016 20:03

Fresh air and swimming did nothing for sleep last night. After a couple of weeks of 2230, 130, 430 - bliss after we'd been doing every 2 hours for months - it was back to hourly wake ups. Can I blame teeth? I'm definitely blaming teeth.

Gorgeous pics fanby. I've never seen those cards before - so cute.

dozy we've been kinda doing baby led weaning too. But I'm a bit impatient, so I've done some spoon feeding too - mashed banana, and blueberry porridge. But meals happen pretty much as and when.

love hope you survived the day. Getting up at 5 is normal for you - eek! Anything before 6 counts as nighttime to me.

What is it with people trying to warm up your children?! The sling library expert told me specifically not to overdress babies in the sling as they are getting your body heat and layers of your clothes too.

I had my baby free time this afternoon and went for a lush massage. DH looked after ds, but only have him 60ml of milk, so he was starving when I got home and cried / giggled at the boob. DH said the other bag of milk 'looked weird' - yep that's what unhomogenised milk looks like! I deliberately go to a woman on the other side of the city so the whole thing takes a couple of hours. I find it helps reassure me that DH and DS are actually fine on their own for a bit and I don't have to be the sole person looking after everyone every second. Control freak moi?

Here's hoping for a return to 'form' tonight. Bonne nuit tous le monde.

FattyNinjaOwl · 16/02/2016 21:39

So... After arguing with DP this morning I have managed to convince him to spend the night again and do the night shift so I get a lie in! Tomorrow is the only day I don't have to go out anywhere this week, I've been to my mums sunday, Monday and today, then I've got to go back to my mums on Thursday as I need to take my DB to the orthodontists while she waits in for sky, then I will be back on Friday as DB will be sleeping over Thursday night, so I will have to take him home and drop DS1 off as he's sleeping at my mums on Friday night. I've no idea whether I'm going to pick DS1 up on Saturday or if my mum is dropping him off!
It's an hours walk each way to my mums house so my poor hips are going to be knackered by the weekend!

loveandsmiles · 17/02/2016 06:29

Yikes - it's a snowy/slushy morning - school run will be a joySad

kbro hope you enjoyed pizza🍕🍕

effin your baby free afternoon sounds fab - we all need a bit of time away - even an hour can recharge you!

What is it with random strangers feeling they can comment on your baby?? I always get told babyloves needs a hat on - she doesn't like a hat and has plenty of hair - leave her alone!!!

fatty you will be getting very fit with all that walking 🏃🏼

Babyloves is great at napping in the day - self settles and usually has a couple of 2 hour naps - however, this is not the case at night - guess you can't have it all waysGrin

The HV couldn't come out to do babyloves 6 month check up as she is about to go on maternity leave so she telephoned to check all ok and told me to take her to the clinic to be weighed as she was concerned at last check up that she was dropping percentiles. Took her yesterday and she has dropped again - below 9th - she is 13lb - but she looks healthy and is now taking food and I have no worries about her but clinic not happy - to take her back in 2 weeks - they are obsessed with the red book graphs - honestly, I don't know everything but managed to raise 5DC so far - all different shapes and sizes and all well!

Off to Mumafit this morning - can't be bothered but I do enjoy it when I'm there❤️

ruby242 · 17/02/2016 09:32

Morning all!

Effin definitely blame the teeth, that's my go to excuse for why DS isn't sleeping. Babies are such a mystery. I hope you had a better night?

Fatty that is a lot of walking! DS mainly naps in the pram or sling so I feel I spend half my life walking around-I just remind myself that it's a good way to lose the baby weight! Hope you enjoyed your lie-in!

Love, super jealous of the 2hr naps you get, that is the dream! I've tried many times to extend naps but only can with movement (continually walking with pram or sling). So have for now given up and accepted that DS is a fan of the power nap!

We don't even get a 6 month checkup where I am! Must vary a lot depending on area. Have heard from friends about Health visitors obsessing over weight, is strange. Yes by your 6th baby I think you most definitely know what you are doing-that is amazing, I can barely cope with one 😮
Enjoy mamafit!

We are off shopping today, have had a boring start to the week as none of our regular classes on due to half term so will be nice to do something fun 😀

Slowifeandthegrumpydwarfs · 17/02/2016 11:39

Hi everyone!

We are away for half term so not getting much of a chance to comment, but I am reading to keep up!

loves I've had the same with the HV with both girls weight. Especially daft with grumpy 2 as she has returned to her birth centile after gaining weight quickly early on rather than actually dropped against it. I haven't bothered with fortnightly weigh-ins and no one has dared challenge me about that yet, I give them the second time Mum evil eye... I suspect the sixth time Mum evil eye is even more powerful Grin

ruby I hope you have fun at the shops. It is frustrating when you have a preschool age child that all the classes stop for half term. It's a bit silly really.

fanby Molly looks so grown-up sitting like that! What a clever girl! Grumpy 2 would do better at the sitting thing if she stopped launching herself towards her toes every time she sat down. They are her absolute favourite thing at the moment and because we are in disposable nappies this week for holiday she can get to them even more easily. Nom, nom!

joskar was it you that said your DD1 has dry skin if over-bathed? Grumpy 1 is the same so we only bath her a couple of times a week but now even on that schedule her skin is really dry. Do you have a bubble bath or moisturiser you can recommend? Her sister has Cetraben on prescription so I might just lather her in that for a couple of days to see if it shifts it...

CraftyPenguin · 17/02/2016 12:35

Morning everyone! Hope you're all well - I'm sooo tired!!

DD had an allergic reaction on Monday night, it was a bit scary the way all her face and her right hand and arm came up all red very quickly. She's fine now though.

We took her to be weighed yesterday and she's 17lbs 5oz so she's doubled her birth weight. We also asked the HV about her skin and she said she has eczema so we have a Dr's appointment for this afternoon. Dozy she said not to use that cream you recommended at the moment, as she said the GP might prescribe something for in the bath. So will see what they say, but I've 'liked' the page so I can find it again if I need to - thank you!

I'm struggling to know when to feed DD and fit meals in. I've not been giving breakfast at the moment (as it's too much hard work!). She sits with us to have lunch and dinner, but I always make sure I give her milk before food now as she went on a nursing strike when we first started weaning. I think she was just too excited about food! Does anyone have any meal ideas? I'm struggling to think of new things to make!

Effin I've read the same about sling/carries on Facebook pages; that you're not meant to wrap them up too warm as your body heat heats them up. When I first had DD in the Ergo I had her in thick pram suits and she was boiling. I also read things like pram suits/snow suits can stop the legs from going in the proper 'frog' position, so you're better off using layers.

What are you all up to today? After the drs, we are hoping to go to the next town to pop into Sainsburys for their sale. I want another pair of jeans and I want to get DD some more clothes. I spent all our Christmas money in Primark on Monday on her, stocking up in 9-12 month clothes, so she was ready for when she moves on from 6-9. I've just been sorting them out to wash (because of her skin) and found whilst the leggings are huge, all the dresses will fit now! So I put some of the Christmas tops and dresses we bought in the sales, against her and they look like they'll nearly fit her! They are 12-18 months....

Coconut0il · 17/02/2016 13:04

Hi everyone. Wednesday again already, don't know where the time goes!

Enjoying half term with DS1 here, DS2 thinks he is the best thing ever and he only has to say hello to get a smile and giggle!

Shockat people and their cold comments. They must not think before they speak.

That's a lot of walking fatty. I could do with doing some but not good if it causes you pain.

ruby DS is a cat napper. 40 mins and he's done. 2 hours would be a dream!

Hope babyloves is feeling better love. Hate the school run in wet weather, everything just gets damp. When's half term for you?
No 6 month check here either. Don't really enjoy taking DS2 to clinic, it's always so busy and it's luck of the draw if you get the one lovely HV or one of the 2 less helpful ones. Only take him about every 8 weeks but agree most are obsessed with the graphs. A few have looked at me likeHmm as DS is above the 98th. The lovely HV just looked at his big tummy last time and said it looks like he had a good ChristmasSmile. Glad he is my second though, the others could make you feel quite worried. DS1 always tracked the 50th line. They are just different.

Slo GrinGrin at the second time mum evil eye!!

Coconut0il · 17/02/2016 13:14

How scary for you crafty . Glad your DD is ok now. Do you know what caused it?

For food we are mostly using the Ella's first taste or home made purees. DS has had a bit of toast, pitta and cucumber and that's it so far but he's not 6 months till next week. I'm not a very good cook so will be watching for ideas!

kbro79 · 17/02/2016 14:13

crafty I always give milk before food too (much to the disapproval of my hv) as he won't take much or any after food.

Good to hear about other babies and percentiles. DS has dropped 2 but is totally fine. Am supposed to go to clinic today but is so grey and miserible that am going to rebel and wait till next week. Can't wait (assuming it happens) to give second time mum evils. At the moment am just doing first time much anxiety every time he is weighed.

In terms of foods we bought a baby cook book as I was the same. No inspiration. We cooked fish and tomato source at the weekend. He loved it. Done a bit of pasta and veg too. Going to try risotto if DS will sit on his own long enough for me to cook. Hoping he will sort of just fit into eating what we eat assuming we are not having 2 for 1 dominoes

dozy did I miss the facebook page link? Don't think I have it. Although no worries at all if you just haven't had time!

Frolicacid · 17/02/2016 18:04

Ola!
I've been reading, but not had much time to post due to a Velcro chest infected little dude.
I really wish the germs would piss off because I have proper cabin fever now.

I can't remember who said what, sorry.

Re: food. I have puréed loads of different things, frozen them in tiny portions and just mix and match as required. I'll start adding more carbs and meat / fish soon as we're almost 6 months now. I'm using pouches for fruit so that he gets a bit more variety than if I were doing them myself.
We were going to start finger foods properly this week, but Ds only wants the boob since being poorly.

Re: dropping centiles - we had that too. The hv's were very relaxed about it, but I worried a bit. Totally unnecessary as it's very normal for bf babies. I've not had him weighed for ages - another thing for the to do list.

Yes to stupid comments from people about cold babies, especially in the sling when they really don't need a big coat.

As always slow, our two are doing the same by playing with toes rather than concentrating on sitting.

Dh should be home any second. I'm going to chuck Ds straight at him and head for a bath before the battle of bedtime starts.

Happy Wednesday mugabeans 🙂

Joskar · 17/02/2016 23:35

Meals: we just give her bits of what we're eating so crusts of bread and some fruit for breakfast, bit of cheese or bread soaked soup for lunch, roast chicken and carrots/parsnips/broccoli for tea. Just wee bit off my plate. Omelettes cut into strips, meat (liver was popular with dd1), wee fish cakes or meatballs. Have a look at my lovely little lunch box online and on fb. Really good things on there.

Dry skin: her skin got better with not bathing everyday but I noticed dry patches again recently. I think it's using Matey bubble bath that's brought it on. She won't get in the tub without bubbles. Pita. Coconut oil was quite good last time but tbh unless it's causing her pain I'm going to leave it and see if she grows out of it.

sianihedgehog · 18/02/2016 06:52

Crafty we've just started on the 12-18 months stuff, too. DS doesn't fit Primark stuff well, too much of a fatty, but we've got some 12-18 trousers from M&s, and my parents posted overs some stuff from Canada.

We don't have a 6 months HV here either, but I took DS to the drop in to be weighed and he was 8.57 kg. I think that's around 19lbs? He's following the 75th centile nicely.

Dry skin: I swear by aveeno cream. Lovely stuff.

Meals: baby led weaning here, too. I'm finding it a bit tricky as I tend to forget either breakfast or lunch, or eat a sandwich on my way somewhere. Definitely easier than having to puree stuff AND remember to feed DS, though.

loveandsmiles · 18/02/2016 06:52

Morning Mugabeans!

ruby 2 hr day naps are fab but a 2 hr night nap would be better - never happy! Hope you had a nice day at the shops. It's frustrating when activities stop in the school holidays and soft play / parks get really busy with older children.

slow 6 time evil eye is SUPER powerful👁👁👁👁👁👁

crafty we went to Sainsburys yesterday at got quite a few bits in 25% off Tu - love a bargain

coconut our half-term was last week - been and gone too quickly

frolic babyloves has had some purees but was feeling poorly and just wanted boob. I try to offer her food first then the boob - when she gets the boob though she launches on as if she hasn't been fed for days and then clings on as if she is scared I will put something else in her mouth insteadGrin

Got to go to DD2 class at school this morning to see a project they have been doing - this would be great if toddler didn't have to come - she is a nightmare as she loves being in the school and will have a screaming fit trying to get her out - cue for other mothers to look at me and tut regarding my badly behaved child and poor parenting - the evil eye will be working overtime👁. If I survive that it's off for another Mumafit class. DH went away early this morning to Manchester and not coming back until tomorrow - I cope fine with him not being here he is like a 7th child sometimes! but struggle to do all the activities at night - tonight I have to have 1 at football, 1 at swimming and 2 at dancing - not going to be possible I think?!

CraftyPenguin · 18/02/2016 08:53

Morning all! Had a tough night with DD last night. It's her blooming teeth causing her pain :(

Coconut we were at my mums and so she was cooking and instead of using butter, she accidentally used some stuff that had 75% vegetable fat in it. That was the only thing that was different so it must have been that. It was very scary though. We then had to drive an hour home (I was driving) so I kept making dh check on her breathing. I was a bit panicky lol. She's fine now though.

Kbro Are you not meant to give milk first? We are doing BLW and then hv said not to do it when she's hungry as she'll get frustrated with the food. Feeding her before meal times really is working for us as she's then so excited about the food. She's really taken to it.

Re percentiles at the check before last DD dropped from the 75th to about the 50th. They didn't seem bothered though. I just get her weight every 2ish months out of curiosity more than anything! I really don't believe in all these charts.

Frolic That sounds tough. Is he feeling any better?

Siani He's in 12-18 months already? Goodness, where is the time going?! We got a few bits in Sainsburys yesterday and I got 12-18 month and they look like they will fit soon. Eeek!

Love you lead such a busy life with all your dc and their activities! I've no idea how you keep on top of it all, lol.

The dr said yesterday that DD does have eczema but will treat it mildly to begin at so gave hydrocortisone cream. It was a routine appointment, but he was a locum so had never seen him before. He said "is her nappy area ok?" To which me and dh said yes, but then he opened up her nappy and had a little prod anyway without asking. We were a bit Confused about it all. Hopefully we won't see him again!

Not sure what our plans are for today. There was talk about us going to a farm but my sides are hurting from driving yesterday (can't believe they still hurt from the c section) so I don't really feed up to it. I do need to buy some brown wool though, so we might end up having to go into the nearest city to get that! :(

I'd better go, DD is doing laps of the living room again, just rolling rolling rolling and she keeps rolling into the skirting boards and doors 🙈 Have a good day everyone!

kbro79 · 18/02/2016 10:04

crafty according to my HV your supposed to do milk afterwards BUT my HV also described baby led weaning as a new fad. Which must be true as we all know whilst caveman was out front discovering fire, cave woman was in the back wiring a blender together so the human race could survive. Interesting about finger foods - DS is taking to them much better since I started doing milk first. Never made the connection but if he not so hungry much less frustrating for him.

Sun is shining here! Happy Thursday everyone.

Coconut0il · 18/02/2016 10:56

Morning Augmums...

Wish these teeth would come through. DS not too miserable with it but the drool is unbelievable. Must be getting though 30 bibs a day. I have drool, dried baby food and scratch marks all over me. Feel quite rough. Didn't enjoy being pregnant as I was quite sick all the way through but I had lovely shiny hair and clear skin. So much of my hair has fallen out the bath now takes about half an hour to empty. Feeling sorry for myself today Sad. Need to get out in the sunshine.

Hope baby frolic feels better soon frolic

joskar had a look at the little lunchbox, looks good for some ideasSmile

siani My DS is a chunky monkey too. He mostly wears dungarees as trousers seem tight on his big tummy!

That's a lot of activities love Good luck! An exercise class for you too, I need some of your motivation!

crafty That sounds so scary, such a worry these babies. Glad she's ok now. What are you making with brown wool? DS1 was always rolling into everthing, DS2 can only roll back to front and then gets stuck, arms and legs going everywhere. He shows no interest in rolling back. He wants to go forward!

kbro I normally give milk before food. Depends what mood DS is in.. he's not eating much yet so feel better when I know he's had his milk. Food would never work if he was hungry, he loves the boob too much!

mzzzf · 18/02/2016 14:54

Loves you're a bit of a hero doing all that on your own!!

So two (ish) nights of ok sleep - might be that she's a belly sleeper indeed 😁
Also off to the docs later, were another dry skin/eczema household. Booked to see the dermatology nurse!

The Jumperoo has gotten another bashing tonight, mostly because the weather is s bit pants and I CBA to fight the half term hoards out and about.

Could murder a buttery hot cross bun right now!

OP posts:
ruby242 · 18/02/2016 15:06

Crafty eek that sounds scary, I was scared about giving DS dairy and bread in case something like that happened but all good so far. Glad you've both recovered from it! And wow 12-18 month clothes, how quick are these babies growing up 😮 Did you end up going to the farm, that sounds like fun!

No real order to doing milk or food first in this household-I tend to just wing it and see how the day is going. He is always keen to have both boob and food so in our case I don't think it matters!

Loves 6 children and your DH away-That's amazing, I can't imagine doing that so well done!!

Coconut we had a short break where the drool died off but back in force now-yes to the millions of bibs a day, I have so many but still need more! Have a feeling it won't be long until we see a top tooth from DS

Mzzzf glad the belly sleeping is helping things, hope it continues for you. We haven't ended up buying a jumparoo but wondering if I should now-what do you think mugabeans, worth it still or have I left it to late and he won't get much use out of it now? He's still pretty immobile at the moment!

Nice and sunny here, time to go for a walk to buy some chocolate get some sun for DS!

Tindel · 18/02/2016 15:25

Ruby we are going to get a jumperoo - my friend's little boy was still in his at 9 months. We are getting a second hand one though.

Having another ill day, so poor J has been left a bit while I try to sleep on the sofa. Am just sooo exhausted, but his cousins are on their way over, so hopefully they can play with him for a bit
