Mzzzf he still doesn't roll front to back, or get from lying to sitting, all his desperate flailing when he saw the cat just suddenly came together, and he started spinning on his belly and dragging himself with his hands and knees. Took him a couple of days to build up the coordination and strength to get about, so middle of last week I saw him do it first time, but DP didn't believe me until Friday, and by Sunday night DP was getting seriously overwhelmed by trying to keep him out of stuff.

With the childminder I honestly just went with my gut. There were only two in easy walking distance with vacancies. I forgot all the questions, and mostly just watched her play with the kids. DS seemed to really like her, she seemed to genuinely like him, and I liked the environment in her house. We saw another one who seemed better on paper and was more clued up about breastfeeding and stuff, but I just didn't feel right about her. Her house was dark and hot, and DS cried and then stopped as soon as I got him outside. The other kids seemed bored and listless and the toys available looked a bit rubbish, and she didn't offer any to DS.

Frolicacid · 01/02/2016 10:50

Awwww, thanks guys! I'm having a nice day so far - just me and Ds as dh is a bit short on annual leave. We're still in pj's. Swimming later.
Ds finally settled at 9pm. I got to finish making a murderer. He had a quick feed at 11:30, then slept until 6AM!! BEST PRESENT EVER!

D's loves the syringe kbro. Gulps it down. I'm getting slightly paranoid about doing it out and about as I use a calpol syringe and someone I vaguely know came up to me in a cafe on Friday to ask if he was ok. I think she thought I was overdosing him 😮
We are nowhere near 40!

I don't have cake mzzf ☹️ But I just got some lovely looking chocs in the post from
SIL. Anyone fancy a praline?

Oh loves. You poor thing. I hope you feel better soon. Don't overdo it today. A bit of mess won't hurt anyone. 💐

☕️☕️☕️☕️ fatty.

The childminder sounds fab siani. And no mention of Jesus and the gays I assume? 😉

Right, Ds is asleep and the birthday fairies haven't done my washing up yet, so I better go and open the back door for them!

Slowifeandthegrumpydwarfs · 01/02/2016 12:55

Morning all,

HAPPY BIRTHDAY FROLIC . Hope you are having great day. I turned 36 the day after grumpy 2 was born (she was due on my birthday but a trip to Loggerheads Country Park sorted that out). Anyway my birthday got so lost in all the kerfuffle that I am totally claiming that it didn't happen so I get to be 36 all over again this year! YAY!

loves Sorry to hear that you have been unwell and even sorrier to hear that you have come downstairs to a mess as I suspect that is probably even more stressful for you than the being ill in the first place! Hope you manage to get yourself straight today so you can relax a bit later with a Brew

fatty why no sleep Missus?

tindel good highchair action J. Grumpy 2 loves sitting in hers while we eat tea now even though she is not weaning yet. I think the view is better.

kbro glad that the article resonated with you. Did your friend have any 'helpful' advice for you? And if so I hope you felt able to respectfully tell her to fuck off.

mzzf sorry to hear that the sleep fairies have buggered off again for you. Anxiety monkeys made me chuckle as we have been reading The Wizard of Oz to grumpy 1 for bedtime but had to have an extra long session last night to get past the Wicked Witch of the West / Flying Monkey section. Quite scary for a 4 year old it would appear!

Good news about the childminder siani and congrats Fergus on epic mobility!

Glad you had a nice weekend away magrat.

We made it to Aldi on Saturday, we now have lots and lots of baby wipes! Don't know if it is nationwide but our local Sainsbo's had a great baby event on over the weekend too - worth checking it out if its still on.

Grumpy 1 is back at school now, still has a bit of a cough but was so much better in herself that there didn't seem justification to keep her off. The week off seems to have done her loads of good mentally as well as physically though, you can see she is more relaxed. My chat with her teacher went well I think. She wasn't aware quite how much extra homework the other teacher was setting them, nor how fast she was pushing them at phonics. She has had a word with the other lady and told her to back off a bit. We shall see how that actually ends up working in practice. Grumpy 2 is her usual chilled out self, so much so that DH and I actually ended up having a conversation about whether or not she is too chilled out and does that mean there is something wrong with her!! ARGH!! Bloody anxiety monkeys!!!

MaGratgarlik1983 · 01/02/2016 13:48

Hi all! Happy bday frolic!! Sorry to hear you're not well loves.

Big news Here - just done first tastes! DS had carrot puree which I think went well after the initial shock of something other than milk. So messy but fun!!

Frolicacid · 01/02/2016 15:12

I think someone has told Ds that it's my birthday. He's being sooooo good today. Lovely naps, eating well and really loved splashing about and making lots of noise at swimming. Please let it last at least until after I've had a steak at the pub tonight?

tindel, I forgot to say how bloody gorgeous that pic of j is! Love the look on his face.

Thanks slow. You definitely get to be 36 again this year. How rude of grumpy 2 to gatecrash your day 😜
Glad grumpy 1 is doing better on all counts. Chase those monkeys away with a big stick.

Yay to first tastes magrat.

MaGratgarlik1983 · 01/02/2016 18:47

Ugghhh took ages to get DS to bed as I think the weekend away messed with his routine. Finally got him to sleep then half an hour later I took the recycling out and the lounge door slammed waking him up. Ugghhh.

rrra · 01/02/2016 19:58

Howdy all. DS was 5 months on Saturday. It has passed so quickly in a sleep deprived fog!! Nights not good still. I reckon he was up every 45 mins last night, but we all have a cold. He also has red cheek and ear from teething and has finally managed to roll back to front, and wants to do it awake and asleep! I'm so tired and frankly don't know if I can keep this up for months more. Really hoping to turn some kind of corner, even if it just meant 3 hour stretches.

Have been pondering bedtimes. Does everyone else's babies all go down of an evening now? I still have DS down with me until I go up at 9pm. Sometimes he'll be settled and sometimes not. I just can't face going up and down the stairs all night. But will need to bite the bullet at some point.

We are also hoping off weaning for another couple of weeks, but have sat DS up at the table with us a few times at mealtimes. He wants to grab at everything so gave him a bit of carrot, but he just mushed it into the tray!

Happy birthday Frolic! I'll be 36 later this year.

Magrat, hope the first tastes go well! I think carrots so the first food I gave DD and I remember her little mouth opening very keenly, like a baby bird!

Slow, glad Grumpy 1 is better and I'm sure grumpy 2 is just fine too. Thank your lucky stars for a chilled out little lady!

Siani, crawling???!!! Good luck!

Loves, hope you are feeling better.

Kbro, keep meaning to say my DS is Aiden, and he doesn't sleep either!

Sorry can't go back any further but hope all mums and tots are well.

mzzzf · 01/02/2016 20:09

Oooh rra - I hear you my sleep deprived sister.
For me bedtime became more about me, even if it took 2hrs to go down and I only got 30mins to myself. That 30mins is fucking magic!! Mini mzzzf isn't the greatest sleeper (as I drone on about!) but having some adult time was IMO as good for the soul as cat napping. Even now as I type this in a darkened bedroom waiting for the right time to stealth transfer I'm happy that I have this time to myself. I've stuck with the same routine of bedtime and she knows now. I get yawns at the same time in the routine everynight now. I'm just praying that the nighttime sleep moves on too. She varies from 90mins to 4hrs in between. She's only gone past 4hrs twice!!

Plus bedtime is something to look forward to for me, it is the end of the baby care day. And sometimes it cannot come quick enough 😁 😁

Can you maybe join him into your dd's bedtime?

Also loves I really hope you're feeling better. I totally get the sheer frustration and upset caused by walking into a bomb site of a mess, makes you feel like nobody gives a shit. Really hope you've managed some order today, for yourself rather than those messy dc and DH of yours 😉

Awesome for chilled out no.2 babies you give me hope Slow (and Joskar & Fatty too!). Am sure grumpy 2 is just uber laid back and taking it all in her stride.

Magrat - woohoo to carrot, boo to slamming doors!! Further proof we all need Man Fridays to help us do all the menial stuff 😁
Surely there's an online catalogue we can order some from in this day and age!

Big up to the born in the 1980's crew!! I felt so old being a ftm and like I must be the only one leaving it later! Yay for you guys 🤓

randomsabreuse · 01/02/2016 20:19

Haven't tried to get F to bed early yet. Like my 6 hour stretch to be at "night" and if I go to bed early she wakes up ravenous early hours which just hurts. Don't know how those getting less cope - but I think lack of reserves means getting less than you're used to is a total killer. Tried going to bed earlier - 9ish but just got a 4am wakeup. I don't need to be up early too often and it suits to be able to take her out in the evening but if she won't go back to sleep in the morning she must get overtired.

Need to get back to weaning, tried last week and she wasn't interested beyond licking some banana off my finger. However she's been really vommy today, possibly chilli in my dinner, possibly soya flour in hovis or possibly just I was wearing a nice new top so it needed claiming like her clothes always get.

Anyone else have unlucky clothes that have been washed about 20 times before they've been worn for an hour?

Dozygirl · 01/02/2016 21:07

Oh loves how horrible for you! 5kg is an awful lot to lose in such a short time. Hope you're on the mend soon.

Glad to hear you're having a fabulous birthday frolic my dear. Many happy returns to you

Frolicacid · 01/02/2016 22:29

Just had my first bag of mini eggs. Bloody yum! I missed mini eggs and Malteser bunnies so much last Easter when i had hyperemesis - major catching up to do this year.
I also had a massive burger and chips at the pub. I had managed to lose 7lbs last month. I may have gained it all back today, whoops 🙊

rrra, Ds goes down now at about 8. It's hit and miss if he will stay asleep without me sat there, but he can no longer tolerate being downstairs beyond that time.

mzzf, all of my baby group friends are a bit younger. I saw on one's Facebook page the other day that she was 'class of 2010' for gcse's 😮 Nothing wrong with that, but fuck me, it made me feel about 100!
There are loads of us around the same age on this thread I think 🙂.

Yes, yes to unlucky clothes random. I actually wore something nice and put proper make up on for lunch yesterday - first time in ages. I was covered in carrot purée and sicky burps in no time.

Thanks dozy 🙂

rrra · 02/02/2016 02:46

I think I'm cracking up. I really don't think I can do this for muchoger. Was up every 20 mins from 9, then two stretches of an hour. Woke at 2am and still not settled. I gave ibuprofen for teeth but no help.

I have rolled up tissue stuck in my nose and feel achy and fed up. Why, WHY can't we have a bit more sleep??! DS is exhausted too but still cries and thrashes around both while held or when put down.

Tindel · 02/02/2016 04:46

frolic thank you - J rarely smiles for the camera, which is a shame as he has a lovely smile, but I do love the other faces he pulls too.

magrat yay for first tastes and boo to waking up by slamming doors.

rra J is now normally asleep just after 8pm, this is a relatively new development and still involves a few runs upstairs for food. Am trying to work out if that's actually his bedtime or he just needs that long to wind down in the evening. I wasn't sure I could be doing with all the running around, but something has clicked the past few nights and it seems to be working (for now). Hope you are getting some sleep now.

Fairly successful bedtime, other than J refusing a bottle from DH and me coming to find J furiously thrashing away from it and DH trying to make him take it because "he's got to learn". Politely explained that this may not be the best time and while it is frustrating, it was easier for me to put J down by feeding him. Ran through some suggestions we can try to get J to feed from someone else. We're out next weekend and SIL is looking after J, so think DH is panicking slightly. He has refused bottles before and taken them again, so hoping it's just a phase.

loveandsmiles · 02/02/2016 07:11

I am still feeling rubbish - sickness gone but now have a cold - sorry - woe is meSad. Couldn't even take children to school yesterday - the school run seemed like a mountain to climb - will struggle out today in the hurricane!! I so wish I had family to help.

frolic happy belated birthday - sounds like you had a great day and what an amazing sleep.

slow glad Grumpy1 is better and that you had a good chat with the teacher - children are such a worry - I thought babies were hard but the worries just continue - the good moments more than make up for it though.

mcgrat think I will try babyloves with some food in the vain hope it might stop her feeding all night long! Good luck.

rrra I am with you on the no sleep - most I get is a couple of hours - she just wants to lie on me and feed all night - it's the absolute tiredness that has me so run down and ill - I feel so bad. The thing is she self-settles and sleeps for 2 hour stretches in the day so she can do it but by 9pm she just cries for me - won't let DH near her. I know I've said before that it does get better but even I am despairing now.

mzzzf you are not old - I am definitely the oldest mum on this thread - unfortunatelyGrin

kbro79 · 02/02/2016 08:46

Oh rrra hurray for Aidan's. We dithered a lot over his name but so pleased went with aidan in the end. Less pleased it's currently the name of the sleepless. I have no practical advice about sleep (obvs) other than have you considered co sleeping? It is keeping me sane at the moment as settling so much quicker so I get back to sleep quicker. Although totally understand it's not for everyone.

Well done baby frolic!!!! He knows how to treat his mummy. Oh god love those malteaser bunnies. Will be also enjoying Easter without the constant threat of vomiting hanging over me. I think we have the same anxiety monkeys visit as supply is my default go to worry at 3am even though I have no reason to think that.

My hazy sleep deprived brain can't remember anything else.

sianihedgehog · 02/02/2016 09:14

Big up the born in the 70s crew! DS was born a week before I turned 38. It hasn't seemed to make much difference, though. I've a few friends who are 10 and 15 years younger who are also first time mums, and apart from the fact that I paid £500 for the Harmony test because of my age we've had much the same experience.

I'm feeling the pain of the sleep deprivation today. DS was up every hour all night. In between 7 and 7:30 I had a glorious wish fulfillment dream about him sleeping through, but was woken up by him wailing because he wanted to crawl RIGHT NOW.

rrra · 02/02/2016 09:22

Loves you truly are a legend taking good care of all of your children despite feeling rubbish yourself. I can't imagine having more than the two I have! Fingers crossed we both get some more sleep.

DS slept 3 hours straight!! But I was on my side tummy to tummy without moving. Now my back and ear are killing me!

FattyNinjaOwl · 02/02/2016 09:29

I think I'm the youngest mum on this thread (Nathan was born 9 days before I turned 24)
Born in the 90s.
I don't think age matters. Older mum, younger mum etc. Everyone's experience has positives and negatives, through pregnancy, labour and parenthood.
This shit is hard and how old you are isnt going to change that.
I was up until stupid o clock with a wide awake demon child (DD)
I want chocolate. Lots and lots of chocolate. Ugh. I'm due on my period. Can you tell?

kbro79 · 02/02/2016 09:54

Fatty completely agree. Motherhood makes everything an even playing field regardless of age. That said born in the 90's. In my head people born in the 90s are only about 7!!! Surely 1995 was only about 4 years ago?

Yes to the 1970's mums!!

Frolicacid · 02/02/2016 10:35

The all night sleep was just a special birthday treat. Back to every couple of hours last night 😴

Sorry things are so tough rrra ☕️☕️☕️

💐💐 loves.

The 3am monkeys are the worse ones kbro. 1995 was only 5 minutes ago!

🍫🍫🍫🍫🍫 fatty.

I really should be getting dressed while Ds naps. Laters 🙂

mzzzf · 02/02/2016 13:58

I've made banana and walnut bread to celebrate mini mzzzf being 6 months!! Her she is gobbling breakfast 😁
Where the duck has 6 months gone?! Grrr I hate you iPhone I never EVER mean duck!!! Seriously though, half a freakin' year!!!
We are getting there people!

Just think in our naivety we though it's all be plain sailing by now. Wonder what it'll be like in another 6 months? Can we all have a joint one year motherhood party in August ?! 😁🍷🍰

The winds up here are ridiculous, almost lost mini mzzzf in her pram whilst turning to open the boot of the car! Oops 😳

Mugabe Nights: sometimes you wanna go where everybody knows your (sleep deprived) pain!

Fanby · 02/02/2016 15:08

Wocka wocka! Big up to all those having shit sleep, shit illnesses, shit times....:( deep breaths and plenty of gin!

I have a very poorly baby, never seen so much snot and green poo BUT it is making her sleepy, lots of daytime naps and chunks of sleep at night Confused obviously would prefer her better (and to continue this run of sleep, greedy, moi?).

Happy 6 months mini mzzzf - she looks SO grown up!!!! And Siani, crawling!! Wow! Check out these milestones! xx

MaGratgarlik1983 · 02/02/2016 16:09

Just got in and there's a prog with Anton du beke on the telly! Get in!

Lilydreams · 02/02/2016 21:40

Hey hey hey mugabeans!!

Sorry for all the illnesses, shit sleep and anxiety monkeys- totally agree they are the flying oz type!!

DS has been better sleep wise dare I say- still not anywhere near all night but we have started dreamfeeding him at 11.30 and then he will maybe have the odd murmur needing his dummy but will resettle quickly and then wants a feed at 5ish sometimes 6ish and will generally go back down. I'm so thankful as I'll be back to work soon and I was dreading it off no sleep! So Rra especially hold on hope you can do this- it was only s few weeks ago I was crying in a heap on DS's bedroom floor at 5am after him waking all night every ten minutes and now look at him!

Weaning is going well here too- DS is a greedy little pig and can even do the spoon himself if I load it for him how did he get so grown up!!!!??

Amazing that we have crawling babies on here eeeek I can't imagine that! DS has majorly discovered his feet lately and is playing the sling his socks off game! He also does raspberries properly with his tongue rather than his lips now which is hilarious- he made me laugh so much doing it at tea before that he started laughing and we just sat there both giggling our heads off- definitely the stuff memories are made off

Doing a shift tommorrow for my second job- I'm actually bricking it as I haven't ever actually picked a shift up before even though I've been on the bank a year due to pregnancy and then mat leave! It's 4.30 till midnight so DH will be flying solo for all of bedtime routine- I'm praying DS doesn't pick it to have a naff night and goes to bed easily!

Started a new diet today and have booked in with a personal trainer for next Tuesday (at 6am am I insane!!!!) I WILL get my shape back! Determined!

Another 80s baby here but defo agree no matter what age you are having a baby is damn hard work as well as the most amazing thing in the world!!

Sprinkling sleepy fairy dust for us all tonight!
