I think it's not that you can't give babies water I think it's that they probably don't need it. Whether you're bf of ff they get their fluids from the milk and if you give water it's maybe reducing their calorie intake because it will fill up their tummies when really they might be hungry not thirsty iyswim. I don't think I gave other fluids til we were doing weaning. It would be very unusual for a baby to sleep through before six months (in spite of what the books say). What the babies are doing just now is normal. They aren't broken. It will pass. Like giraffe, loves and frolic we are cosleeping. I never check the time or look at my iPad either. If I knew how often I was waking up I'd become obsessed!

The massive clear out continues. Bye bye clothes! Have also filled a bag of books. Kitchen gubbins are on my list too. We will need to make big changes to our housing situation in the next few years so I'm getting in early and throwing it all away.

The weather is rotten. So chilly when the wind blows in a certain direction. I'm making Dh take the baby so I can walk the dog myself. Too awful to take the wee toot out in. I don't do prams as out track is too rough and I came back this morning soaked through so she would have got really wet I think. He was walking the dog but then I realised that I was never leaving the house! Need to get out and about or I go mad!

rrra · 07/01/2016 14:52

Thanks. I certainly don't expect sleeping through the night for a long time yet, but it would be good to get an improvement on a 2 hour stretch! I'm also concerned I need to somehow be teaching him to go down awake, rather than feeding to sleep or rocking.

MaGratgarlik1983 · 07/01/2016 18:12

Evening all augmums! Mzzf I hope you feel better now. Hope you managed to get a bit of rest fatty. Glad you liked the nursery Frolic - still don't know what to do with our booked place yet... Yes to leaving the house Joskar although it must be tough if it's that terrible outside. Good luck with the sleeping rrra

We went to the weigh in clinic today and DS is still roughly tracking the 9th centile but has gone just a tiny bit below it ggrr. They weren't worried though. had to wait an hour to be seen it was that busy! I just need to stop obsessing about it. He looks healthy, happy, alert and is meeting milestones so...! He's been having over a litre of milk a day recently as well although I wonder if he's been making up for maybe taking less over Christmas? I sort of lost track with how much he'd had for a few days over the festive period. One of the issues with bottle feeling I think is that it's easier to get a bit obsessed with the stats! I measured his height when we got back though and he seems to be on the 75th for height (which is where he was at birth as well) so obvs seems like a lanky little man?!

Met up with our NCT group this afternoon for coffee which was lovely although we're all feeling the same about going back to work...not really wanting to...! OMC I hope it's all going ok with you. We also have a tooth at the bottom where the top has come out but is still pushing through that I think is causing a touch of the grumps at times. I felt today and I think the one next to it is about to cut through as well eek!

Anyhoo better go and get tea on. Sorry if I missed replying to anyone and hope everyone is having a good day!

Frolicacid · 07/01/2016 18:48

I'm sat at the hairdressers without Ds! It's so weird! I've only left him once before - 12 weeks ago when I last cut my hair. He's hardly slept or fed all day, is dribbling and gas big red cheeks. Good luck mr frolic!
I have left a variety of milk and drinking vessels for them to try with.

Well done on the clear out jockstar. I could do with some of that.
I have to leave the house every day or I'd go mad. I've barely had any use out of the sling in the past few weeks due to the rain, but the pram rain cover is well used.

I have a long, thin one as well magrat. It's hard not to obsess about the weight. He sounds like he's doing just fine.

I hope you've all had a good day. The cold is setting in here. Hopefully it will kill off some germs!

mzzzf · 07/01/2016 20:29

Cheeky question as I'm sat in the dark (again!) are any of your bubbas having a bit of a skill regression and/or change of activity?

Mini mzzzf was a demon roller, would flip again and again and again ALL the time anytime you put her down since 3 ish months. But for the last few weeks has been content to just lay on the floor on her back with no attempt at rolling. I know she can do it as she pulls it out of the bag when she 'has' too but it's such a change in activity for her. I wonder if there's a new skill about to pop up and she's just been using this time for thinking and doing brainy planning stuff... 🤓

Frolicacid · 07/01/2016 20:41

I'm sitting in the dark too! Ds refused a bottle while I was out and is now stroking, sucking and cooing at the boob like a long lost friend. I was only gone for 2 1/4 hours 🙄

I reckon mini mzzf must be working on her next skill for sure. World domination perhaps? Ds has slowed down his rolling - probably because he can't really do rolling back and he hates being stuck on his front.
I hope she settles quickly.

Lilydreams · 07/01/2016 20:55

Hope your doing ok fatty, thought I'd not seen you post in a while but I know you've a lot on your plate jut remember we are all here if you need it.

Frolic- glad the nursery was nice it's quite relieving to find a good one I found. Ours has been reserved since before DS was born but need to go down soon and organise his settling in period and what days we need when for the first month as they are flexible to shifts as long as a month in advance.

I think the water in the night thing is to try and artificially get them to drop night feeds as the rationale is they won't think it's worth waking up for water but seems a bit mean to me (no offence to anyone trying it) I just figure if he's hungry he's hungry so I'll feed him!

Rra- I've just attempted to do 'go down awake' as he can do it for naps and he has gone to sleep really easily the last week- well I was obviously pushing my luck as he not only couldn't do it like he does naps but started full blown crying and it took me 50 minutes to get him asleep rocking in the chair!

Magrat and frolic- a long thing one here too just like his daddy!

We started decorating DS's nursery today- nautical theme, I'll post pics tonmorrow when it's finished!

How did Mr frolic and DS get on with feeding? Well I hope.

Here's to a good one tonight- although I'm losing optimism by the day!

Lilydreams · 07/01/2016 20:58

Xposts Mzzf and frolic! Oh no sorry baby frolic didn't get on with the bottle- sounds rather cute how he missed the boob though although I know it's probably abit annoying!

Mzzf- not seen much of a regression skill wise if I'm honest but as we always say all babies are different! Maybe baby Mzzf is about to master sleeping through? Grin

Clstow · 07/01/2016 21:07

I read that babies like to really get their heads round a new skill before moving on to the next one. So mini-M was probably mastering the rolling and now she's got that licked she's preparing her next trick... Sleeping through I reckon Wink

DS is the same. Last week he wouldn't stop blowing raspberries, this week no raspberries but he is loving pulling his socks off (yay for me playing hunt the sock all day).

mzzzf · 07/01/2016 21:58

Sleeping through would be effing AWESOME!!! Let's all do an 'I bloody hope so' dance just in case 😁

Lily - cool bananas job! Bet you've got some stories!
Frolic - how's the Barnet doing? Did mr frolic handle the complaining over lack of boob ok?
Joskar - I know what you mean about getting out. I can let a day or two go by without getting out due to the crap weather. So dog walking (despite driving rain!) is the only option sometimes for some solo time. Snow and ice are forecast for scotlandshire this weekend though! I'm hunting down a wet weather cover for our sling.

OMC - hope work is ok as it can be and dare hope you're enjoying the baby free time a little. Imagine a long uninterrupted poo - ahh bliss! 😁
MaGrat - mini m was a lanky wee one and then we started weaning and BOOM we have our first double chin. It's tres cute!! Not advocating for early weaning but she has certainly benefitted from it as milk intake remained at a litre but the additional meals have really helped as she was dropping centiles too.
Rrra- first few weeks of doing bedtime with DD and it took hours. This last week has taken 45mins and that includes changing nappy and into pjs, 8oz feed and waiting for her to be properly asleep before creeping out. I owe it all to our light up lullaby froggy 😁 Best £9 I ever spent. I think I've conditioned her like a Pavlovian doc and when she hears that music and sees those stars she knows it's bedtime. However, that could all be bollocks and it's just that she's ready for bed at 7.30!! 😁

DH back to work tomorrow. No more help and company. As much as he's an annoying bugger, I'll miss the pants off him!

FattyNinjaOwl · 07/01/2016 21:58

We are all OK as can be. Thanks every one.
I'm now full of a horrible cough. Nathan is not doing well after his jabs. He won't sleep, he's fussy with his bottles (as in only taking 7-8 oz every 3/4 hours instead of his usual 8oz every 2 hours!)

OP posts:
Frolicacid · 07/01/2016 22:19

2 1/4 hours without me the boob was clearly devestating stuff and I'm still cuddling and feeding Ds who won't let me put him down or stop smiling at me! I am obviously the bee's knees 😉

Me frolic did a fab job. Ds was asleep when I left. My mum stayed the 10 mins until he got home. Apparently he woke up after my mum had gone and was very upset at not being put straight on to a warm breast. Luckily for us, he is a distractable little chap and lots of silly making followed to keep him jolly. He played about a bit with a bottle, but didn't do any real drinking. Lots of air was swallowed judging by the belly gurgling going on tonight, but hey ho.
It can't have been too bad as he has suggested that I try and go out a bit more often. I may attempt some swimming i think.

Looking forward to nursery pictures lily. Ours is still a bit of a dumping ground, so some inspiration would be great.

We are on blowing raspberries this week clstow, along with taking off the socks and sucking the big toe. Charming.

What is this magical frog you speak of mzzf? I'm willing to try anything that might help with settling without boob.

You poor thing fatty, so much going on. Ds was pretty shitty after the 3rd jabs, but it passed quickly. Take it easy.

Giraffescandance1 · 07/01/2016 22:28

raa I wouldn't worry about the going down awake thing, I reckon it's one of the things that baby books like to sell as an idea but babies will learn in time, once they're running round they'll certainly fall asleep easily, it this age they need a bit of help sometimes imo Smile

Agree with loves on the childcare thing, I looked at loads of nurseries and childminders for dd1, in the end I found a childminder I loved, I still love her years later and I've even asked her to be dds godmother (she was thrilled Smile ).

I'm sending a spell to make babies sleep tonight Grin

FattyNinjaOwl · 07/01/2016 23:35

taking off the socks and sucking the big toe. Charming.

Nathan is desperate to do this, he can get his sock off but he's too fat to get his foot in his mouth. 😂 hes figured he can slump forward and get it a bit when he's sat up, but he really wants to do it when he's led down.

Fanby · 07/01/2016 23:43

Got a load of catch up reading to do but I'm so tired I will read then post again when I'm next here...

Until now I just got all excited that DD had slep from 9:30pm-1:30am....oh the disappointment when I realised I'd mis read the time and there was another 1! FML!

X

Fanby · 08/01/2016 04:42

Ugh, she's been up for a feed at 11:30, 3 and 4:20 - now I know this is good, I keep telling myself this is good. It's better than every hour BUT quite frankly I am so sick of it. DH is shit at settling her and he's just come up with some fucking STUPID suggestions and I just want to bash his head in. I don't want him to say 'what else can we do', firstly we - there is no we, you don't and have had hardly ever got up with her at night, if I knew the bloody answer I would do it. We ended the conversation on him saying 'this is a ridiculous time to be awake I'm never going to get back to sleep now' well treacle welcome to my world. Honestly my limits with him at the moment are ankle high.

Frolicacid · 08/01/2016 05:02

Holly shitballs! 10:30-4:45!!!! All of you, go and get your hair done tonight!

giraffes, you are clearly a witch and your spells are the shizzle ⚡️

Aww fatty, I love the thought of your little chunk trying to eat his toes! Ds is long and thin like his dad, whereas I'm short and fat. But I think he gets his bendibility from me - I could still touch my toes at 40 weeks pregnant 🙂

Oh fanby, it's so bloody tough. This is why I encourage dh's use of the spare room. I cannot stand the helpful suggestions.
It's a shame that it's a bit mean to use a little human to prove a point, or I would totally suggest that you leave him to his suggestions and see how he gets on.

loveandsmiles · 08/01/2016 06:51

Morning allSmile

giraffes sounds like you had a fantastic childminder! I didn't get your witchy sleepy spell - please resend💤💤💤

fanby my DH is banned from bedroom at night as he gives me so much rage - even his breathing manages to annoy me - he keeps asking when is he allowed back inBlush

frolic wow, wow, wow - you must feel like a new woman today - hair styled and a sleep!!! You will conquer the world today 🌎

I had a disaster of an evening - had dancing, football and swimming and had to fit tea in too. Arrived back at house from dancing to quickly have tea before football, with car full of DCs - had Frozen blasting on CD (it keeps toddler awake), it's pitch dark and pouring with rain - reverse into drive - straight into DHs sports car!!! Didn't hear parking sensors because of Let it Go blasting outBlush. Silence from DCs who then all said in unison - "Mrloves is going to kill you!" Omg - I have a mahoosive people carrier - it's totally squashed the front of his car. That's what he gets for driving his impractical, un-child friendly cars - he drives a sports convertible day-to-day and has a second sports car (now squashed!) in drive. He is not amused - wasn't home until 9.30pm last night - he wondered why I had stayed up to welcome him - oops!!

everythingispeachy · 08/01/2016 06:58

Well we were up at 9, 11, 1, 4 and just now. Compared to the last 3 nights this is an improvement and Ds is ill with a cough so I can't really blame him. On 2 of those wake ups he didn't want to feed so I am hopeful once he is over this we can go back to a couple of feeds a night.

Frolic I am so jealous of your haircut. Mine is desperate for it. Not had a trim since June and even then the hairdresser did something odd so it needs sorting out. Going to book an appointment next week.

Sorry you aren't well Fatty on top of everything else. Take care of yourself.

Ds1 has his first day at nursery today. I have to stay with him so dm and Mil are coming to look after ds2.

Happy Friday everyone.

mzzzf · 08/01/2016 07:24

Oh loves!!! Fuuuuccckkk! I did s similar thing with our car before Christmas reversed it into a low wall, was t concentrated due to loud singing along to radio. Minimal damage just embarrassed to have done it and for DH to be in the car at the time. I'm a better driver than him for smoothness and speed etc but DH is Mr Safety and will insist he's best despite shitting lurching clutch action, which is vomit making when in the back seat!!

Fanby - you poor love. I can completely emphasise with you. It's the shits isn't it. And double 'grrr' to your DH. What a div for commenting on the 'early hour' and not getting to sleep. Blokes are knobs sometimes. Agree with frolic that if it wasn't for stressing out DD I would leave him to it! Banish him to the spare room maybe?!

Frolic - you little dancer!!! Is your main mode of transport moonwalking this morning?! 😁 Amazing! This is the frog - he rocks!!
www.argos.co.uk/m/static/Product/partNumber/9058912.htm

Giraffes - yes I agree with the book that it's knobbery about aiming for awake put downs. Awesome if they do it naturally but come on baby gurus just give us the truth - babies are dickhead sleepers!! 😀
Fatty - hope you feel better soon! Pj day for you?!

Sooooo mini mzzzf did something she's not done before. She went through the night without a feed!! Wtf?! Went from 7.30-6.30 and only had minor repositioning wake ups every couple of hours, that took 5-10mins max. Wtf?!?! I've almost had a full nights sleep!!!!!!! I'm totally aware that this could be a fluke and never to be repeated but wowzers!!!! Thanks for the spell giraffes!! 😁

mzzzf · 08/01/2016 07:25

X-post everything - Good luck at nursery!!!

everythingispeachy · 08/01/2016 07:39

Cross post with loves oh shit! How did dh react?

Thanks mzzf, the grannies can't wait to get their hands on him! and wowsers mini mzzzf! Giraffes keep the sleepy spells coming you wonderful witch

kbro79 · 08/01/2016 08:06

I put DS down last night 'drowsy but awake'. Needless to say 10 minutes later he was just awake and not a hint drowsiness left. He spent most of the night in bed with us again. I didn't look at the clock but he was awake lots. It's nice there are lots of co sleepers on this thread. In RL I have quite a few friends who disapprove. Whatever. Giraffes that's good to know your thoughts on putting down awake. I had never thought of that but makes sense they will get it once they are burning more energy.

Mzzzf and frolic massive congrats on the sleep!!!! Hurray. Fanby I feel that too. He is not waking every hour but is so far away from decent sleep still. Trying to focus on the positive but God am tired. Please just do the magic 4 hours DS. Please. That's all I ask.

DS is also long and thin. Takes after his daddy. As well as my dad and brother. Not me.

Oh loves what a shame about the car. In light of how it happened could you just suggest he 'lets it goooooooooo'.

Clstow · 08/01/2016 10:10

Grin to let it gooooo. Sorry Love, shouldn't be laughing, hope your DH wasn't too upset.

I told you MzzF - Mini M's next trick is sleeping through... Great news for you. And for me too actually, Alex did one of his overnight big sleep specials 7:45pm-6am. I'm in the feeling like a hero club today.

Another long one here - DS was 54cm when he was born and just keeps getting loooonger, but his Dad's 6 foot 4 so he's gonna be tall. Weird that so many of us have lanky babies though... Must have been something in the water last October/November.

Happy Friday all, hope everyone has a fab day planned. We're off to baby massage this morning, will be nice to catch up with everyone after the Christmas break. Many Mugabes to you all x

loveandsmiles · 08/01/2016 11:25

mzzzf so happy for you - minimzzzf is a superstar Star - miniclstow too - there is hopeSmile

Lol at 'Let it Go'!!! DH has been banned for the bedroom for so long he says my 'punishment' for wrecking his car is a weekend of passion - haha he will be lucky unless he has found someone to look after the 6 DCGrin. He wasn't as mad as I thought he would be - think he feels guilty that I am always running around with all the DC and it is quite stressful!
