Ah, yes, the tantrums... All the time, every time I say no, every time I take a tiny little toy that is meant for 4yr olds from her, every time DH doesn't let her take all his stuff off the computer table, every time I move her away from poking the cats in the eyes and mouth, usually for no apparent reason at all. DH claims not to remember DD1 ever doing this. I do but had probably blanked out the relentless, repetetive screaming about the same things.

No shoes here either, as she can't actually walk without holding on to the furniture/ baby walker. I am extremely grateful after being nearly bankrupt by the extraordinary cost of DD1's new school shoes last week. Very cute first walking shoes were in the sale and only £10 in John Lewis, and the shoe size measuring lady did offer to measure DD2 so I could buy some ready for when she needs them, but I have no idea how long it will take her to be that good at walking or how fast her feet will grow.

DD1 was back at school yesterday. DD2 missed her. DD2's 'job' is to shout her sister in for meals. If she is sitting in her highchair and I have been cooking and I shout DD1's name, she joins in shouting her too. Now she sometimes shouts before I do, maybe she is hoping that will make the dinner be ready quicker?! Yesterday I sat her in the highchair and, when I had finished making lunch, she shouted DD1 and looked quite sad when she didn't come in because she was at school.

Today she is back at nursery and I am trying to tidy the house after 2 weeks of DDs and DH being at home messing it up all the time. It is taking a long time, especially as we have many new toys that do not live anywhere. I may not be able to fit in a nap before working all night, but can't just give up on it as my parents will be here on Thursday because I won't be home from work in time to take DD1 to school and for DH to get to work.

ladydolly · 05/01/2016 13:29

Sleep continues to elude us, it's inconsistent but ranges from 1 - 4 times a night and about once a week it will be for over an hour. We're going to try the no cry sleep solution as I'm pretty sure she's not hungry in the night now, it's just habit. I realised this week it's making me quite depressed, I'm so desperate for sleep I skip the exercise I love and I'm not performing at work (at a time I really need to be) and we want another baby but it seems impossible when we're so knackered.

I'm off sick AGAIN, I don't think I've been free from a cold since at least October.

I'm so on board with reins, I had a near miss with my nephew and a busy car park once and it's frightened me for life!

happy DD calling her sister, so cute!!!

happypotamus · 05/01/2016 14:27

Ladydolly DD1's name, which is not at all easy to pronounce, was her first proper word. She can babble mama and dada and says something which consistently means cat but doesn't sound much like cat. She sometimes says something which sounds like thank you when given something and has a shout which means more. But her sister's name is her only real word, probably because she hears us shouting it so much!

ladydolly · 05/01/2016 20:44

happy How lovely! Much cuter than babydolly's favourite word 'dog' which came shortly after mama and dada. She's absolutely obsessed with them. It won't make such a lovely story when she's older.

I found that the last few weeks while she's mastered walking she didn't talk as much (but there was a lot of random shouting) and now she's back focussed on the talking. DP is desperately trying to teach her to say his football team's name but so far it only comes out as 'de-do' which really isn't that close to it.

How is everyone getting on with toothbrushing? DD loves the brush and in the bath shouts 'tees' (teeth) at the brush but really only chews the brush and howls if I try and help her.

eastmidswarwicknightnanny · 06/01/2016 05:58

Well another good night some at 10.45 dh cuddled him n popped back down n other than a couple of odd cries literally a shout out he has slept til 5.30 feeding now n hopefully back down so I can get dressed for work.

Ds says hi ya which he has learnt from nursery also mama Dada and baah is what he calls his brother he has also this week started singing along with xs1 to eye of the tiger words not clear but noises and tune are ds1 sings it loads as end of last year at school they were doing it in assembly no idea why.

I am doing my first week of 4days a work but have reduced by hrs by 2hrs a week to finish early on a Fri to collect ds1 from school.

Annarose2014 · 06/01/2016 09:09

Another good night here too. Could cry with gratitude that the night before wasn't just a fluke.

13 month jabs here today. Dreading them!

DS hasn't a word in his head. Just golly golly golly as usual. Doesn't say mama or dad's. I don't much care . Early walker, late talker and all that.

HalfStar · 06/01/2016 19:05

Hi everyone. Glad to hear people are getting a bit more sleep in the new year. Dd has been a bit mixed - a few awful nights thrown in with some good nights and some amazing nights, like last night which was 7.30pm-7.40am without a peep all night. Such an amazing feeling! Surely we can't hope for a repeat.

Need to figure out the shoe thing, haven't got her measured or anything yet as she's only taken off properly in the last 3 weeks or so. I'm loving having her walking, I love this age.

She doesn't have many clear words and has forgotten her old ones like teddy and tea! just lots of babbling at the mo but can make her wishes very clear ...understands so much it's freaky.

Dd1 is almost 4 and becoming quite the little madam.

Looking forward to getting life back on track a bit in 2016.

ladydolly · 08/01/2016 07:48

Ooooh babydolly slept through. Dp has done all bedtimes and wake ups this week because I've been poorly and to earn points in advance of boys weekend and has been trying a version of no cry sleep training and she's only woken up once a night all week and last night didn't wake at all, she was up at 5.30 though because she was starving hungry but I'll still take that.

Meanwhile a trip to the docs has me loaded up with antibiotics, steroids, nasal sprays etc etc to wipe out this bug once and for all.

Yesterday a good portion of the afternoon was spent bringing me shoes from the front door with commentary 'daddies shoes' (well, 'dada sooz'}. She seems to have totally forgotten the word 'mama' altogether :(

Annarose2014 · 08/01/2016 09:48

Oh well done baby dolly! We had three wake ups here BUT he was back asleep and we were out of the room within 15 mins each time. This is a vast improvement on the 2 hrs of last week!

Oddly his appetite isn't as huge as it's been either. Definitely points to a growth spurt just finished.

Strawberryfield12 · 08/01/2016 10:35

So this is my back to work first week almost finished. Haven't been doing much at work because bosses are still deciding whether I should get straight back to my role or first entertain myself with some project work and then take it over the previous duties. So today it's me working from home which means I will be cooking up some meals for next week and do bits and bobs around the house and get paid for doing that

DD seems to start settling in in the nursery, yesterday she had finally stopped being clingy and sit most of the day on somebody's lap and started to play with other kids. Yay!! She still cried this morning when I dropped her off, but it stops as soon as I am behind the door. So not that bad.

Very positive aspect of returning to work - I have lost 5lb of weight! The magic of not being at home and constantly eating chocolates!! I had already started to think that I have lost ability to keep ok weight without massive dieting or workouts.

Sleep-wise, it's funny. She has a witching hour about 1am, when she kicks off and nothing would help unless she is taken in our bed. Thank god it's a super king one and there is enough space for everyone. Once she is with us she sleeps very deep and still without any stirrups till 6am. I start to believe that if she would be put in our bed in the evening she would actually sleep through. We have battles to get her down, I think it is the fact she is away whole day and once we all are at home she refuses to go to bed despite being very tired. Last night after her crying eyes out about going to bed, we both got down in our bed and she was fast asleep in minutes, so deep she didn't notice I moved her back to her own bed. It's a difficult one with being in our bed regularly. On one hand I'd rather she starts to sleep well enough it makes sense to move her out of our bedroom, on other hand - her wanting to sleep with us might be the way she compensates for whole day being away. We will probably hold on for some time to make sure she is used and comfortable with the new arrangement and then will start to address the bedsharing issue.

eastmidswarwicknightnanny · 08/01/2016 17:06

Yay dolly - last night was 4 wake ups well 4th was 5am but went back down.

Feeling tad guilty ds2 now in nursery 4days n I finish early Fri to collect ds1 from school first week of doing these increased hrs and decided to get ds2 at same time as nursery next to school n in next village so car journey anyway they had taken them all out in buggy for walk round village so left him n husband will get at 5.45 so I dont have to do the journey in rush hr taking 30mins but poor baby is always picked up by 5pm on the p!us side dinner is all prepped I have had 2 cups of tea washed up n hoovered throughout ds1 is just chilling in front TV.

MrsAukerman · 08/01/2016 19:46

We've had sleep throughs about 6 of the last 8 nights. Sometimes the day does start at 0500 or 0530 but not too bad. I'm usually asleep by 2200 myself.
We got the rabbit book for Christmas and dh and I are taking turns doing bedtime and it works! I urge those who tried it when it first came out to try it again now that the babies are older.

Strawberryfield12 · 08/01/2016 23:08

Sleep is OK at no out last 5nights has only had milk once on one of those nights and has woken once a night n gone back down with a cuddle from dh, had few 5.30am starts though.

ladydolly · 10/01/2016 15:30

Great bargains eastmids!

Managed to get babydolly 1st shoes from clarks sale for 15, couldn't resist a pair of boots from their online sale too even though I swore I'd only get 1 pair

Left my finished sushi box on the side this afternoon and caught her just as she shoved a fingerload of wasabi in her mouth. She was a bit panicked but I gave her blueberries and she seemed fine! This follows finding a ladybird wing in her mouth yesterday... no prizes for guessing where the rest of it went!! Oops!!

eastmidswarwicknightnanny · 10/01/2016 16:30

I had ds2 feet measured today 3.5 didn't get any shoes as ds1 first crawlers we kept are same size.

This baby has today eaten like a king refused weetabix in favour of crumpets with beans and mushrooms followed by prunes, mid morning snack of fryuit and oat cakes, lunch paella followed by fruity oat dessert, afternoon snack of some fish with cucumber sticks, tea was chicken n veg balti with rice followed by hipp organic fruit pot and we will have a roast dinner at 5pm which he will have small amount of.

ladydolly · 10/01/2016 19:14

When your lo's have yogurt, fruit pots, desserts... do they feed themselves or do you spoon it in? I don't give her much that she can't eat with her hands but I do give her a spoon and she gives it a go but prefers to shovel it in herself.

eastmidswarwicknightnanny · 10/01/2016 19:51

I spoon feed saves on the mess although we have plenty of that with normal food prunes are not fun chewed and spat out he sucks the middle but out and discards the outer dry bit!

Annarose2014 · 10/01/2016 21:22

We use the 2 spoon system. Put yoghurt on Spoon 1, let him work away sucking on that, and every time it hovers remotely beyond his lips, shovel Spoon 2 in. He seems to think he's feeding himself with Spoon 1!

MrsAukerman · 11/01/2016 06:41

Also a 2 spoon system but you load one spoon, let him insert that which he's quite good at now while you're getting the second spoon ready. As soon as he's eaten one spoon you need to swap it for a full one before he starts playing with the empty spoon.

OP posts:
haventgotaclue1 · 11/01/2016 13:41

For some reason DD will not feed herself using a spoon at all - I've tried loading it up and putting it in her hand, but she just drops it or pulls her hand away...she's quite happy feeding herself finger food, but wants us to do the spoon work Hmm

Need some advice / suggestions please: until about a week ago, we'd never had any problems with nappies leaking during the night. However, all of a sudden they seem to be leaking or DD's producing a whole load more pee. I've been using the normal size 4 Aldi nappies but on Saturday got their 4+ ones remembering that they were supposed to be thicker. Hmmmmm, well, first night using them, when I got her up the next morning everything was wet: sleep suit, sleeping bag and even bed sheet. It seems to be coming up over the top of the front. Any ideas?

She's definitely on a "testing the boundaries" phase....don't know how many times a day my kitchen cupboards get emptied! As I type, my purse is being taken apart....must remember that my driving licence is down between the cushions of the sofa!!!

HalfStar · 11/01/2016 13:55

So I think this is the week I stop breastfeeding. It's time, my supply has all but vanished after I was sick over Christmas. Feels strange to think that this part of my life is coming to an end! Not sure how dd will take it but hope she'll be ok. Going to give her a big bottle of milk before bed as I don't think she's been getting enough milk recently. I know we're all 'supposed' to be ditching bottles at 1 year but frankly I'm happy to put that off a bit for a while, she's likely to drink much more and get much more comfort from a bottle than a cup she'll just sprinkle everywhere! She wouldn't settle last night around midnight until I gave a bottle and she downed 5oz. So going to do that before bed tonight.
Anyone else still doing a boob or bottle feed at night?

ladydolly · 11/01/2016 13:58

Was there leaks from the size 4 normal as well *haven't?

Yes the emptying and sorting... my bag is her favourite plaything, I keep meaning to get some old empty make up and make up bag to keep her away from mine.

I found some old (but in date) ellas pouches in the cupboard so I've been bulking them out with pasta or veg to make stews. I am SUCH a skinflint!
