Snap! Tonight makes 5 terrible nights in a row. He's already woken up screaming once already. I'm fully expecting more to come.

Its just so grim. Last night I actually broke down and sobbed at 5.15am, after an hour and a half. DH took over and it still took him another half an hour.

WTF is going on?? I don't think its his molars tbh. He's not sick. He's happy and alert during the day and eating ok. Naps unchanged. If only I knew why this was happening!

ladydolly · 02/01/2016 00:54

We're up too anna, she just won't go back to sleep. I think its teeth though... doesn't make it easier though. I have an upset tummy so can't help because of loo dashes!

Mstchsticks all round tomorrow!

Annarose2014 · 02/01/2016 01:26

We've had another wake up since. Ugh.

Am trying a new thing tonight of just putting him back down on the mattress gently and stroking his hair. Amazingly the hair stroking is getting quicker results than all the shh-patting-cuddling-rocking I've been doing. He must like it.

Also Ewan the sheep is still indespensible for his white noise setting camoflaging the ninja-creep across old floorboards to the door.

Some groaning and rolling here but I must try to sleep. Hard when you're literally waiting for something to happen.

Happy New Year everyone Smile - sounds like lots of sleepless nights Sad. Touch wood, we're doing relatively well on that front at the moment....having said that, I'm bound to have jinxed it now Confused

So after learning to stand completely unsupported 3 days ago, dd took her first few steps (supported) yesterday - time is going SO fast!

No new year's resolutions here. Just keep going, and making the most of it all before she grows up Grin

moggle · 02/01/2016 22:47

Sorry to everyone having crap nights :-( very lucky we are as since starting walking properly DD has been sleeping through almost every night. Although bedtimes are getting difficult / not sure if it is due to late rising during the holidays or maybe we are heading into one nap territory.
She is a proper little toddler now, I can't believe how fast she has cottoned on to walking in the past two weeks, considering it took her six weeks to do more than a few steps at a time. We got her some cheap boys cruisers from Clarks but tbh she's only worn them a couple of times outside. She spends every waking hour walking around downstairs.
And putting all her toys through the cat flap - argh!!
Had a really nice day today - sale shopping and cinema while DD was with my parents most of the day. So relaxing not having to entertain her all the time!

Annarose2014 · 02/01/2016 23:31

Today we bought DS some size 5(!!!!) wellies and he discovered the joys of splashing in muddy puddles. It was hilarious seeing the dawning realisation that he could make the water splash and then the utter concentration required.

We let him run around on a big field for ages in an attempt to tire him out. Seems to have worked, he hasn't moved so far. Finger crossed as long shift timorrow!

(Btw DH says it is all teeth related as every top is soaked. We just dont know what teeth as he wont let us look)

moggle · 03/01/2016 08:15

Size 5!!!!! :-D

MrsAukerman · 03/01/2016 09:36

Got DS measured yesterday as a 4.5. John Lewis lady hadn't even heard of some of the brands I wanted to try (barefoot brands) even though JL do sell them (just not in that store). Ordered online in the end so I hope they fit OK. We have a pair of size 5 wellies as handmedowns and I thought it'd be summer before he fitted them but he'd be fine in them now I'm guessing!

DD is definitely teething. She has been off food for about 3 days now and today she is drooling so bad, I will have to go and get the bibs out. She hasn't been very big drooler, so this definitely is a sign.

ladydolly · 03/01/2016 10:26

Whenever dd yawns I'm straight over sticking my face in her mouth! I see teeth but not identified which they might be or how many. She's only waking up twice in the night but she keeps shoving her hands right to the back of her mouth and holding the side of her face, must be really hurtin poor love.

I'm going to attempt shoe shopping for herr next weekend but dreading it, doing anything that isn't what she wants to do isn't well received... getting her dressed takes about 10 minutes these days. It's like taking on a drunk and angry octopus.

Strawberryfield12 · 03/01/2016 12:21

Size 5 is impressive! DD has size 3 shoes with reserve, actually she still wears 6-12 months leather slippers, looks like a duck in 12-18 months ones.

eastmidswarwicknightnanny · 03/01/2016 13:01

We don't even have shoes he pulled the leather slipper style off in diusgust and as we only pull to knees and crawl we don't need therm so saving our money ds1 had cruisers from 9mths but won't be suckered in this time til taken independent steps.

Just been swimming four first time since July ds2 cried bjht settled eventually.

haventgotaclue1 · 03/01/2016 14:45

Another shoe-less child here Smile - well, has some bootees to wear when out in the pushchair / on her trike, but as she's not walking yet, can't see the point....and they look SO expensive...

Arkkorox · 03/01/2016 19:43

I have had enough of sick and poo Angry both me and dd have some virus. Poor mite hasn't eaten anything but 10 bits of plain pasta since Thursday!

haventgotaclue1 · 04/01/2016 14:21

Oh Ark Sad - sending you lots of virtual hugs and hope you both get better soon. Have you tried ice-cream for your dd? When mine wasn't eating anything due to illness, she did manage ice-cream and jelly.....

eastmidswarwicknightnanny · 05/01/2016 06:27

Ssshh don't tell my baby he slept til 5.15am had a quicvk feed and back down at 5.30 shame I am up for work at 6! He went to bed at 7pm woke screaming as if in pain at 8 dh cuddled him and he went back off in 5mins. What makes him sleep I do t know other than we went to soft play yesterday.

Annarose2014 · 05/01/2016 09:51

He slept through! After 8 consecutive nights of hell! DH & I are more shattered this morning than we were yesterday. I think we were adjusting a bit too much to three hours sleep.

If he sleeps through again tonight then it must have been the 13 month sleep regression, as he's not sick or teething. Fingers crossed!

moggle · 05/01/2016 10:15

Woo Anna that's awesome!! I hope it continues. It is hard to admit on here when so many are struggling with sleep still, but DD has slept through almost every night from 8-7 for about four weeks now, since she started walking in earnest, it started quite suddenly. We've started making an effort to go to bed a bit earlier too and I feel like a new woman... I'm even contemplating exercise for the first time since I was about 3m pregnant! No idea how the logistics of exercising with a toddler works though, if anyone has any ideas please pipe up!

So, DD seems to be dropping a nap here. Bedtimes have been getting harder and harder, and she's been taking longer to fall asleep, so the last few days I've just let her stay up in the morning and yesterday she didn't start yawning for four hours which is amazing for her. She actually basically entertained herself from 9 until 11:30 - pulled all the tupperware out of "her" cupboard, played in / trashed her playroom, pushed toys out of the catflap, rifled through the receipts in my wallet, practiced putting her hat on until she could do it herself (it has earflaps so you have to put it on the right way round!), closely inspected all our shoes. I was cleaning the kitchen first, then did some life admin on the laptop, and then just sat there with a cup of coffee watching her. Very nice morning considering it was the first day back to normal life after a long break. Anyway I gave her an early lunch then she slept from 12:30-3:15! I was dreading giving up a nap but if she sleeps for that long every afternoon I don't think I can complain!

Back to work today :-( When I got DD to nursery and told them she seemed to be dropping a nap they looked a bit scared - apparently five other babies in her room have also come back with parents reporting that they've dropped their morning nap! They are going to have a fun morning and lunchtime there today!

Arkkorox · 05/01/2016 10:29

Right now we're getting to the otherside of this bug thing I can actually post instead of moaning like normal!

Anna and east im jealous of your sleeping babies! Dd will sleep all night but only in bed with me. I think next week will be time to change it to be honest. I miss dp lol! Dd is walking so well now. Need to get her some wellies to go with her waterproof all in ones so she can fall over walk around in the play park. Christmas was nice, first time I've been invited by dps family to come with him which is lovely. Must get some thank you cards ! What are people doing about reins / back packs? Yes or no?

Annarose2014 · 05/01/2016 10:48

I've ordered the giraffe backpack from Jo jo. Hopefully it'll work!

moggle we dropped a nap ages ago but it's worked out well in that the one problem we never had was getting him to sleep at 7 pm. It was keeping him asleep that was the problem! Sometimes he sleeps 2 hrs, sometimes only 1 hr. It doesn't seem to make much difference tbh.

The only thing you have to think about is being too tired to eat dinner properly. He rarely eats later than 5 now because his nap never lasts beyond 12.30. We also give him fruit on the go at about 4 for an energy boost.

Annarose2014 · 05/01/2016 10:50

Clarifying that sometimes he NAPS 2 hrs/sometimes 1 hr! That was a bit confusing!

Arkkorox · 05/01/2016 10:55

Anna we've got the dinosaur one Grin

moggle · 05/01/2016 11:03

I think we will have to get a little life backpack with reins for DD but right now she can't go fast enough to get away and isn't really that interested in walking outside. When I get her out of the buggy in a playground she just clings to my legs and whinges. We will need some wellies too in time but like Anna said in an earlier post they are so rigid and cold looking. I am wondering about getting some snow boots instead as they seem cosier and often still have a one piece rubber sole around most of the lower foot.

Oh we are starting to get some brilliant strops at the moment. Still funny at the mo but suspect they won't be for much longer. Yesterday she brought me the teething gel, I put some on her gums, she looked me right in the eyes, then bit down really hard right on my nail bed, I shouted pretty loud and she burst into tears!! She keeps bringing me the gel but she only wants me to take the lid off so she can play with it; when I refuse she just dissolves into a strop. It's so hard not to laugh at her but we must try!

Arkkorox · 05/01/2016 11:06

moggle its the over dramatic crying that gets me every time. I keep thinking she's hurt but then I realise its because the dog is in the wrong bed or something lol good call with the snow boots! I might get her some little yard muck boots to keep at the horses

moggle · 05/01/2016 11:16

Yeah she has also stropped when she couldn't fit a whole jigsaw board out of the catflap, and when she couldn't steer the walker onehanded as wanted to hold a toy at the same time. And whenever I tell her NO for the second time. The first time she just does it again, the second time the lip starts wobbling...
