A water table is great investment we have a split sand n water one but never both doing both you get sludge otherwise do one or other it was ds1 he got it when 2 and stuil kooks new its a chad valley one n legs come off to use as tray on floor ds2 loves it pop in puddle suit n he stands at it forever splashing he also loves the playhouse.

Strawberryfield12 · 03/04/2016 20:34

anna it already makes me laugh, mainly because of DD's face. You know those videos online with dogs sat next to the damage with the guilty eyes? She had the same face while sat in the water crap floating everywhere. She definitely knew she'd done something odd. Luckily it was DH cleaning the bath, so I got away pretty easy on practicalities Wink

haventgotaclue1 · 04/04/2016 11:24

strawberry dd is a pro at pooing in the bath Hmm - luckily she was more prone to doing it when she was smaller and we used the baby bath. ..meant we could pull her out and more the entire contents of the bath down the loo! Bit more of a pain when it happens now in the normal bath.

ladydolly how's the sleep going? Baby haven't is really testing us at the moment. Last night she slept fine in her cot bed from 7-11pm; then I had to sit up with her from 11-12.30; then back to sleep in her bed until 2; then up with her sleeping on and off on my lap until 5.30 when I gave up and brought her into bed with me (dh already left for work by then). Normally she'd be wriggling around and exploring if I do that. Luckily this morning she slept for another 1.5 hrs beside me whilst I dozed. Thinking we're going to have to go hard core on the sleep training technique tonight. ...but she can definitely scream for England. ...

ladydolly · 04/04/2016 11:36

Oh strawberry! One of those mornings when by 9am you're totally knackered and feel like you're ready for bed! If it's any comfort DD has pooed in the bath several times including once when I was in it with her (I cringe at the thought of it). When it's happened she's been really upset by it, looking at the poo like it might bite her.

MrsA We always need to plan to be out of the house too, DD would go mad cooped up with me. The library often does storytime of singing sessions, they're good. Also you'll often find you can do a free 'trial' session of loads of activities like hartbeebs, massage, sing and sign etc, lots advertised on mumsnet local.

Babydolly still not sleeping brilliantly but we've decided to nightwean, she's drinking so much at night that she's waking up because of a wet nappy and I'm not sure she's actually hungry and it's just habit. Last night she woke at 11 which dp sorted in 10 mins then again at 3 but it took me 1.5 hours and she still wasn't going down, she was so angry she was punching and pulling and chucking her bunny all over the place, I eventually had to send DP in and she stopped howling, kissed me and fell asleep on his shoulder. One the one hand I'm heartbroken and on the other, great, DP can do all the nights. But of course he's away tonight so I'm on own - eek!

porsmork · 04/04/2016 14:17

All this talk of pooing in the bath must have inspired ds!
We sat with him on the potty for half an hour before bath time and he really squeezed, nothing. Then, in the bath I gave him a tummy rub, and......well, tmi. Luckily dh was on hand to catch it! That's only the second time he's done it. The first time was very well timed. I'd literally just finished saying 'it's funny he's never pooed in the bath', when he decided to go... Excellent comic timing.

Strawberryfield12 · 04/04/2016 14:38

Oh well, sounds like I have overreacted with the poo in the bath, seems to be a regular thing with 16 months old! Grin

happypotamus · 04/04/2016 17:15

Although she can't walk by herself, DD2 has discovered wellies! DD1's first pair of wellies have been worn by large-footed cuddly toys for the past 3-4yrs so DD2 discovered them lying around the house, recognised them as shoes and tried to put them on. They are probably too big for her, but today I let her wear them outside in the rainy garden and she walked holding only one hand more than usual and stood up on her own long enough for me to take a photo although she is crying in the photo because I wasn't holding her hand. They say you shouldn't get babies shoes until they can walk several steps by themselves, and I am absolutely sure you shouldn't let them wear too big wellies for more than a few minutes, but I was surprised how much better on her feet she seemed. Clarks do the pre-walker shoes, which I always thought to be a waste of a lot of money, but now I wonder if they would help. On cold days or when she will be walking about outside she has fabric baby shoes at the moment. I know all your babies can walk, but did you bother with the pre-walker shoes or not? Tomorrow she is back at nursery in the next room where all the other children will be walking confidently which might spur her on to start (or, in the back of my mind, is the worry that my niece couldn't walk until she was 2 and she is dyspraxic and what if there really is a problem that I am dismissing. I will have decided that if she gets to 18 months without waking, which is in 22 days, I will take her to the HV and ask about a referral or something)

Annarose2014 · 04/04/2016 17:26

happy we never got pre walkers, we just bought slippers in a size 4 which is the smallest I think.

I think they only cost 4 quid! Not remotely waterproof of course as they had felt uppers, but had a rubber sole which was all we needed for the few steps he was doing back then.

Annarose2014 · 04/04/2016 17:28

I forgot to add, once they take 3/4 steps they usually accelerate pretty fast which is why we didn't want to fork out on pre walkers.

eastmidswarwicknightnanny · 04/04/2016 19:54

Happy ds2 isn't walking on his own he cruises and climbs he has shoo shoes for outside at nursery, ds1 didn't walk til 18mths funnily he had crawlers shoes from Clark's at 9mths then soft type shoes from next for cvhildcare . ds2 has size 4.5\ feet so the sz4 wellies I got in sale for when walking will be going on eBay!!

I need sz 18-24mths pram shoes and next do odd style in that sz as its roughly a sz4.

I have reads no shoes til been walking independent for 6weeks but can wear soft shoes that fold completely in half are OK .

Strawberryfield12 · 04/04/2016 20:48

happy we never had pre walkers either I thought it was another gimmick to squeeze money out of loving parents. Actually, we got her first walking shoes when she wasn't still theoretically walking independently, but was walking both indoors and outdoors holding just a tip of one finger, could feel she wasn't leaning on me and the finger was mainly the confidence thing. She was walking holding hand from 9 months and was desperate to do it, she would throw a huge strop if we wouldn't let her walk outside, so in October she got her first snot from walking on a cold day with leather slippers on and it was going to get only colder, so on beginning of November we went to Clarks and bought her first walking shoes. She still wears them after months of walking. I was in doubt about buying proper shoes before she walks, but then thought that surely parents in cold countries where winter days go way into minuses don't make their children walk outside in slippers, they buy proper warm boots with lining so thick shops don't even have on sale in the UK or babies would be down with pneumonia in no time. Once she started to walk she was just as good indoors and outdoors, probably because by the time she was already used to wear shoes.
Go along with your gut feeling, it is more reliable than any generic rules.

happypotamus · 04/04/2016 21:23

After worrying after her wearing wellies to not walk by herself in the garden, I bought her inside to do dinner. I made calzone from a packet mix pizza base. I got out a mixing bowl for me and one for her, gave her a cup when I got out a jug to measure water, let her her poke the dough when I kneaded, gave her some left-over spinach leaves to stir in her mixing bowl and throw on the floor while I made the filling. She had a great time when usually she is tired and hungry and miserable and cries while I am making dinner. Of course, she put the bowl on her head so had to have her hair washed which she hates and we created a lot of mess and twice as much washing up but we had fun. Hopefully I can get DH to put the photos on the computer so I show you her crying in her wellies and helping me make pizza dough.

happypotamus · 04/04/2016 21:49

Also, for someone who can't even walk, she is very good at mastering soft play equipment. We went to DN's birthday party yesterday, and, after trying out the 1-3yr old section, she noticed her sister on the bigger section, which was very high up with long, bumpy slides and realised that would be much more fun. I was exhausted by the end of it, as I had to keep going up with her to make sure she went the right way, wasn't trampled by other kids, lift her up the bits she was too small to climb and so she could sit on my lap on the very fast slides. She loved it. She still didn't sleep for more than 1-2hrs at a time last night though despite all the climbing.

ladydolly · 05/04/2016 10:03

DD had those little leather slipper things before she walked, I got proper shoes about 5 weeks after her first unaided steps. They have just one welly boot at our sing and sign class (it's a prop) and she LOVES it and wears just the one for the last 10 minutes of the class.

Weird night last night, I'm on my own and really busy at work so was kind of looking forward to getting her down and cracking on but she had other ideas and I spent 3 and a half hours rocking her to sleep only to have her wake up as soon as I put her down - repeated over and over. And when I say wake up I mean 'totally lost her shit hysterically crying'. She finally when down at 10.30 and then thankfully went through until 6.30.

Feeling way more capable this morning when I got dinner in the slow cooker, our lunches ready and off to childminder all on time only to spend the next 1.5 hours in traffic trying to get to my work which is 4 whole miles from home only to have to give up and come home again. big sigh

haventgotaclue1 · 05/04/2016 19:25

No pre-walker shoes here either - got her first pair of "proper" shoes about 6 weeks after she first started walking unaided. Before that she was tottering around in soft-soled JoJo Maman Bebe pram shoes (she almost wore them out...).

ladydolly can TOTALLY relate to your night last night: had even worse on Sunday night when she DD did exactly the same thing between 11- 12.30 and then from 2-5.30am Hmm - I was not impressed one little bit. Then last night we decided no more messing around and we'd be firm with the sleep training technique we followed. She woke at 1 and we needed to go in maybe 4-5 times until just after 2, then she slept through til 6.15 which was brilliant Grin. I reckon baby haven't and dolly must be on the same wave-length....

happypotamus · 05/04/2016 19:36

Based on one day, she gets a lot messier in the new room at nursery. They completely changed her once after she soaked herself playing with water and she had mud and paint and dinner all over her at home time. She had obviously had lots of fun making a mess despite a bad start when she clung to DH and cried when he dropped her off. The keyworker was very apologetic about the state of her fabric shoes from playing in the garden (the baby room had fake grass in its garden so it didn't get muddy), but I had expected that to happen. She tried to persuade me to get some better shoes for playing outside but I still don't think I want to pay the ridiculous price of pre-walker shoes for probably just a couple of weeks.

happypotamus · 05/04/2016 21:42

DD in her wellies crying because I let go of her hand, making pizza, and looking especially happy and cute in the sunshine just before Easter. We haven't done photos on here for a while so please join me in posting new photos.

Lovely photos happy. I will share later off my phone.

Yes ds2 is awake n yes dh was getting up before 4.30 to him for past 2weeks he seems not to hear him!!

ladydolly · 06/04/2016 08:04

Haven't they definitely seem to be in sync don't they? How did you get on last night? DP put her down which took a little while, maybe 20 minutes then that was it until 5am but we just couldn't get her back to sleep after that but still, we all agreed that counts as a sleep through :)

happy What a sweetheart!! Love her little coat too.

ladydolly · 06/04/2016 08:10

Some pics from my phone including one of dd oblivious to the incredibly famous man behind her.

DD seems to have decided that Tuesday nights aren't made for sleeping. Last Tuesday was horrific before we went on holiday and nobody got any sleep. Last night she was in bed earlier than usual because DD1 is staying at in-laws' and it's a lot quicker to get just one child ready for bed, but she woke up a few times coughing, then a bit before 12 she woke up and didn't go back to sleep until after 3am. She was in bed with me for about half the time and she was mostly not crying just clambering around and chatting and generally doing anything but sleeping. Of course she was exhausted when it was time to get up for nursery so I don't know how she will get on there with unfamiliar people. DH and I are exhausted too and I am back at work tonight after a week and a half off, so she will be even more upset and possibly less likely to sleep when she wakes up and discovers I am not here.

Was pouring with rain earlier here so sent her to nursery with the too big wellies so she can play outside. DD1 also moved up to this room not walking by herself so without proper shoes, but I can't remember what we did about her playing outside. It was the middle of summer so maybe it was a dry summer and didn't matter too much. Maybe I'll have to pop to Primark for more baby shoes that she can ruin to get her through the next few weeks.

Strawberryfield12 · 06/04/2016 09:02

Oh ladydolly cant believe you got him in the picture just like that!!!
Great pictures if both babies, will get round to posting soon.

ladydolly · 06/04/2016 09:28

happy we went through a few pairs of inch blues from playing outside, I got them cheap at a nearly new sale, like a pound a pair, if there are any near you. There were loads because I guess they're in them for such a short time. Hope it goes better than planned today and everyone gets more sleep!

strawberry I know! We see him quite a lot, I sat behind him in the cinema not long ago. I was a bit worried because dd loves wheelchairs and laptops so if she'd spotted him she wouldn't have left him alone... awkward!

porsmork · 06/04/2016 11:05

These babies must all agree Tuesday's aren't for sleeping! Ds woke at 11.30pm and screamed for 40 minutes, that's unheard of for him. Poor little thing. I was more stressed with dh, as I asked him to get calpol (which he had put away), and he said he couldn't find it. I went to the cupboard where dh packed it, and it was right there.... I hate how he never sees anything even when it's right in front of him!
Here are some recent pics. Wow, lady, what a famous person to keep running into!

This is DS showing typical behaviour by plonking himself down in a puddle without any wellies and splashing merrily about not caring he was getting literally soaked to the skin.

Had to have a full bath at noon. > sigh>
