Love the photos Grin - will definitely try to get some of DD on here!

Ladydolly last night was much better for dd - we didn't need to go in at all from 7pm - 5.15am, and then dh managed to get her back to sleep for another 30 mins. She slept through - we didn't: she was doing some hacking / chesty coughing at points which woke me up, and now I have her cold (and am generally feeling a bit sorry for myself with a really sore throat, no voice, and a heavy head...)

The latest "funniest thing in the world" is when we leave nursery, for dd to walk to the car on anything BUT the pavement...ie, the grass, the flower beds etc etc...she thinks it's hilarious....and especially likes pressing her face up against the fencing which runs alongside the outdoor play area so she can watch the bigger children playing outside Smile

We're trying to set boundaries at the moment: it's really not easy! So every time she pulls EVERYTHING out of a drawer / pulls books on the to the floor / purposefully knocks all the stuff off the coffee table etc etc, we ask her to put it back...definitely mixed results - from actually doing it straight away, to running off laughing Hmm. Guess we just have to stick with it.

Love the photos!
Had a funny day here today, ds slept for 5 hours! 9-11.30 and 2-4.30 (when I went to wake him up!), must be a growth spurt again. Back in bed for 7.30, so we'll see what tonight is like....

Is that a big pink knob??! Grin

Today we bought DS some Hotwheels cars. The proper metal ones, with a track. Not because he's a boy, but because since Day 1 of playing with toys its been "Wheels or GTFO". To the extent that we bring him to the playground and he goes over to random Mums buggys and starts spinning their wheels. Blush He has two things with wheels bought by MIL, a big yellow truck and a big red firetruck and it got to the stage where he really needed more. So the wee metal car onslaught begins......

So feck it, if its wheels he likes he can have them. DH is not so secretly thrilled his son is likely going to end up with a Big Empty Paint Bucket 'O Cars just like him!

Is this a boy thing or are girls fixated by cars too? So many people at work tell me very gender-specific anecdotes "Oh my girl only wanted to cuddle/feed things from the start" - its wierd!

ladydolly · 08/04/2016 12:55

Massive LOL at 'big pink knob'!!

Observational evidence only but dd does indeed feed her bunny, loves cuddly toys and her dolls. She has some wheeled toys but can take them or leave them. She does however LOVE anything with balls (I'm talking toys here for the dirty minded ones among you), and now she has her own football in the garden she's happy as larry.

She is also obsessed with babies, there is a new younger girl at the childminder, not walking yet and d has been pretending to feed her and bringing her toys to play with - because she's such a big girl right? Have used this to my advantage and got a 1 hour video of babies laughing on youtube up on the TV and voila! Loads of free time for mummy while dd is distracted.

Strawberryfield12 · 08/04/2016 13:30

DD likes to cuddle up when asleep, but not cuddly toys, not at all. She is into all sorts of technology, music, balls and other rolling toys (ninky nonk!), books are popular. If there is any device with buttons on, she will be all over it. We have an old ipad we give to her if we need a bit of peace, she knows how to switch it on (no password though), in which folder is Youtube icon hidden and how to scroll up and down the videos and if "sign in" message pops up, she knows that clicking on X in the corner closes it down. We haven't taught her any of it, she must have learned it just seeing us do it. She can spend hours going through different songs and clapping hands and kicking feet in the rhythm. The other day I caught her fiddling with the oven timer and clock, no buttons, just icons drawn on the glass. How did she worked out that pressing them would make things happen?! We never really use them so it's a bit of a mystery.
When she was 11 months she had a moment of kissing and hugging a big rug doll, looked like she thought she was alive, but as there was no response to her expressions of love, DD was over it very quickly.
But then I look at her hairy shoulders (recent bath time discovery!) and it makes me think that she might not be the most girly little girl in the world. hopefully we avoid the pink evasion in our house

porsmork · 08/04/2016 14:59

Anna, the car and wheel obsession here is HUGE! ds will spend hours pushing dinky cars around the living room, over me, hiding them places. He loves older kids scooters too, or buggies, and he has a spinning top. His first word was 'round round! (Still no other words though!).
He likes teddies and gives them a cuddle too, and after cars water play is his second favourite activity.
Have my mum & dad with me here this week, not sure if it'll be more or less work!

happypotamus · 08/04/2016 15:20

DD has toy cars/ other vehicles but can take them or leave them. She is still mostly interested in toys meant for 4yr olds, but also likes lift-the-flap books, drawing (pencils, pens, crayons, chalks, aquadoodle, magnetic drawing board, anything), a ride on zebra with flashing lights and annoying songs, the ipad, my mobile phone. She discovered cuddly toys a couple of weeks ago. She had previously showed no interest at all, but suddenly loved a couple of them and picks them up and cuddles them saying aah. There is a bear and an elephant she will particularly look for at bedtime, which I am very much encouraging in the hope that something other than me and my boobs will bring comfort at night!! Water play is popular at nursery but we don't have it at home until this morning when she crawled to the kitchen and was sat splashing in the cats' drinking water, which was great until it was all over the floor and she was soaking wet. The cat wasn't too impressed either.

strawberry With DD1 I tried to avoid pink, girly stuff because I don't like it, but, since she has been old enough to choose, her preference is very much for pink clothes, dresses not jeans, dolls, Disney princesses etc. There is no hope for DD2 because she will have a lot of her sister's clothes handed down and plays with sister's toys and is generally massively influenced by her sister in every way at the moment, though that might all change and they might end up like my sister and I, who are very close in age but as children were completely different and shared very few interests.

The Cough From Hell has returned here (well, it never really went away but did improve somewhat) and is continuing to steal all our sleep. We are all exhausted. I worked Wednesday night and am usually the one getting up with the coughing crying child, DH spent Wednesday night with a coughing crying child who really wanted mummy to be there and both DDs are coughing all night.

Annarose2014 · 08/04/2016 16:48

DS has been happily driving his cars along the top of the fireguard for the past half hour whilst I chill out with tea. Best 1.50 spent ever!

We did have a beach disaster today though. We thought he'd get to the waters edge and splash around in his wellies. We did not anticipate he would run straight in up to his waist like bloody James Mason committing suicide in A Star Is Born!

And we had no change of clothes as he'd secretly taken them all out of the nappy bag and we hadn't checked it. Rookie mistake.....Hmm

So he had to sit in the car seat in the nip! He had a bloody brilliant time. Grin We enjoyed it a lot less!

Strawberryfield12 · 08/04/2016 21:16

Happy the idea that one day I will end up going to local supermarket with DD in plastic princess dress makes me wake up in the middle of night covered in sweat and struggling for breath Smile But I'm sure I will get used to it in no time just like poo in the bath. Grin

eastmidswarwicknightnanny · 09/04/2016 06:31

Anna that's so funny least he had a good time.

Ds2 loves cars ds1 was never interested we have loads toot to it cars, wooden garage n cars, mega b!ocks cars n trucks n hot wheels some from ds1.

ladydolly · 11/04/2016 15:28

I'm away with work this week, as much as I hate being away from dd last night I had 7 hours of unbroken sleep - amazing! Although I spoke to DP this morning and she OF COURSE slept through last night. It's definitely me she's trying to break not dp...

eastmidswarwicknightnanny · 11/04/2016 18:15

Ladydolly I think iyts just pot luck :)

Just took boys to Bella Italia for dinner as dh won't be home til 8 tonight went at 7 this morning and its last day school hols was lovely in there boys were v well behaved and yummy food

Strawberryfield12 · 11/04/2016 19:17

Ladydolly you have to go away more often, for benefit of everybody. Everyone seems to get good sleep this way. Grin

I was going home tonight and suddenly it struck me that I couldn't believe I was a mum to a little girl. Bit late to start wondering 16 months down the line, right? It's just I still feel the same person before Nov 2014, suddenly the realisation that the whole mum thing is really weird. Does it happen to others as well or it's me?

happypotamus · 12/04/2016 08:12

I got 2 whole nights' sleep Friday and Saturday and I didn't even have to go back to Wales! I accidentally agreed/ was guilt-tripped into changing shifts to work the 13hr day on both Saturday and Sunday so was very grateful for the sleep. My exhausted body and mind now reminds me why I don't do 2 long days together anymore and I missed my DDs after not seeing them at all for the entire weekend. She woke up once briefly on Sunday night and I didn't mind that as I hadn't seen her for 2 days, but last night she was awake for 2hrs which could have been much worse but wasn't great. Will wait and see if we get a repeat of the last 2 terrible Tuesday nights tonight.

moggle · 12/04/2016 09:00

Interesting that someone said about a growth spurt / lots of sleep - last weekend we had a day where DD slept for 14 hours overnight, and then had a 3.5 hour nap during the day. And still went to sleep fine that evening. In the morning I'd woken at 9am (!!!) and ran to her bedroom as I thought the worst!! But she didn't wake til 9:30!! So civilised! She wasn't ill so must have been some developmental or growth thing.

Had a lovely weekend with friends and their kids - DD enjoyed playing with them although she also enjoyed just carrying a half eaten apple around in a colander for quite a while...

Know I'm a bit late to the photo party but any excuse to share a pic - will try and dig one out on my phone.

moggle · 12/04/2016 09:06

Here are a few :-)
(I got the old cozy coupe for a few pounds off a selling site and then discovered a whole world of pimping them up on Pinterest!! I'm so excited ...)
