happy how did first night in own room go?

happypotamus · 17/08/2015 08:50

Well, that was shit! I went in at 10.30 because she was coughing so much but she went straight back down, then went in at 12.30 because she was crying but she was asleep. At 1.30 she was crying, I fed her, very carefully eventually got her back in the cot, went back to bed, but 10mins later she was crying again and didn't go back to sleep, at nearly 4am I gave up and bought her back to my bed. :(
DD1 stayed at in-laws last night. We are meeting her, MIL, SIL and 2 nephews at a local attraction this morning. I could do without a busy day out with them, a meeting this evening for my volunteer thing I do and a messy house to sort out before my mum comes to stay tomorrow.

DD can't crawl but can roll to get where she wants. She can even get down the step into the kitchen. The other day I turned round to show DD1 something on the computer, turned back and DD2 was somehow in kitchen.

havent hope your poorly baby is feeling better soon.

MrsAukerman · 17/08/2015 09:02

We had some good nights with first wake ups at 0300 but now they're slipping earlier and earlier again. But..... Standing man!

happy if it's any consolation that's how mine went when I had a stab at it on Friday, I lasted til 4.

DD and I had a kind of rough night, up at 10 and not back down til 12, she was desperately trying to sleep but just couldn't because of her teeth, even when I brought her into bed with me, she was snuggling in or climbing in circles like a cat to get comfy even climbing all the pillows to lay up there for a bit but eventually I tried rocking and she howled, not crying, crying is for babies, but shrieking, it is SO loud. Eventually in put her in the cot and she shuffled for a bit before sleeping until nearly 5 so at least there was a 5 hour stint for me. Up for the day at 6.40. Already back down for a nap after whinging pretty much since we got up. Today is going to be a loooooong calpol filled day :(

MrsA I don't know whether to congratulate or commiserate!! Great for ds but you now can't ever put anything down!! :)

Ark re naps. Dd was down to 2 per day (of maybe an hour each), but over the last week she's gone back to 3 x30 min naps. Am blaming this firmly on the teething problem. So far today she woke up around 6; napped again 7.45-8.30; & is now having a 2nd nap (fell asleep around 10.15). Thing is I'm going to have to wake her up soon as I managed to get a doc's appointment for 11 ...Confused

haventgotaclue1 · 17/08/2015 10:29

Oh Ladydolly, I fully understand the shrieking. ...Sad it's awful isn't it cos you feel helpless and they're obviously in pain and tbh calpol doesn't really seem to have much effect and she just licks off the baby bonjela as soon as I put it on.

Thisisimpossible · 17/08/2015 10:43

Thanks Ladydolly Smile it was worth the hangover. DP suggested that I am 'out of practice' ...I think he's probably right - such a lightweight these days!

So sorry to hear you were up so much Saturday night - it's so tough :(

Wow, happy that's great news! But not so good about your night last night. Our hv reckons at least 4 days and up to 7 for them to get used to a new routine. I am really hoping she's right. We started putting DS down in his cot to nap during the day on Saturday. He had a hammock initially and then for the last month since he's been too big for the hammock I've been putting him in his pushchair for his naps because it was the easy option to get him to go off. Consequently I've made quite a rod for my back. However, we are on day three today and it only took him 45 minutes to go to sleep this morning. And he's still asleep now so that's an hour so far... It took 2hrs on Friday (when I gave in and used the pushchair) and then 1hr 45 on Saturday morning. Lunch time naps are taking even more time at the moment.

ark before the daytime cot nap debacle DS was doing one nap in the morning from 8 for an hour to 2.5 hours, and then another in the afternoon from about 12.30ish for a couple of hours. I can just about get him to bedtime at 6 without another nap if he wakes at 2 but it can be a messy afternoon towards the end. I have tried to get him off for a short nap occasionally but he's not that keen. They seem to be getting less though. He's not getting tired until about 8.30am now rather than 8, and not sleeping as long...although that could just be the cot thing.

havent hope everything is ok at the docs x

Annarose2014 · 17/08/2015 11:41

I didn't realise there was a new thread! Blush Am a bit dense.

happy brilliant about the new room. The first week is well dodgy but we found it really improved his sleep once he got used to it. And the sheer joy of being able to read in bed! And shag properly!

Ark our naps are about the same as yours. He'll nap in the cot but he still wakes at 30 mins on the dot and if you're not poised to put him under again, then thats it. So its still a bit if a pain. I had hoped he'd do an hour uninterrupted by now. He does do an hour but only cos of us making him, iykwim.

DS is now crawling like hell. We were at a luncheon yesterday in a hotel and he zoomed clear across the room to the door and out into the hall. He can pull himself up on anything now. We hurriedly bought that fire guard from Argos that everyone gets, but we haven't had time to fix it to the wall yet and now he's pulling himself up on it and toppling it over! So thats the next job!

Also if you're sitting down he crawls over and pulls himself up the chair and you look down to see this little eager face at your knee! Adorable.

I think this is a lovely stage. DS has been merrily playing on the floor beside me for 20 mins babbling away, without whinging at all whilst I avoid housework drink tea and MN. When he gets bored with one toy he just crawls over to the next. Occasionally he looks up at me with this face: Grin This is lovely!

havent thinking of you! Flowers

TwigletFiend · 17/08/2015 12:27

Haven't, rash lasted about 36 hours as far as I'm aware but appeared at MILs house and she didn't notice, so could have been more like 48 hours. Hope all ok, fingers crossed for you.

DD is now attempting to stand unassisted at least twice an hour. She's mastered one hand pull ups/sit downs and is chomping at the bit to walk. Eeeek! She also climbed onto her table toy thing and up onto the coffee table yesterday. I nearly spat my tea out.

Happy, I am determined to do own room for the first time tonight. I keep putting it off and putting it off but she crawled and fell out of our bed last night when I feel asleep feeding her, no harm done but only by luck that she didn't whack her head on the end table Sad I felt so awful I couldn't sleep afterwards so I'm tired but absolutely determined to get her settled in her room tonight.

Lovely photos Twiglet and MrsA Smile

haventgotaclue1 · 17/08/2015 16:54

"Interesting" day. Doc said it's a viral infection and can't do anything. Dd had 5 x 30 min naps today... 5!!!! Shock

Strawberryfield12 · 17/08/2015 18:09

They are definitely at their best ATM! We constantly hear comments about how nice DD is. She is very animated, smiles to strangers and laughs at passers-by triggering lots of smiles in response. Last few days have seen few newborns on street and got that feeling that no way I would like DD be that small.

Arkkorox · 17/08/2015 22:01

I've only got one thing to say about today.

I hate teething.

Pass the Wine

MrsAukerman · 18/08/2015 06:37

Don't know whether it's a cold or teething but that was a shocking night.
Brew

TwigletFiend · 18/08/2015 07:55

Well our night was ok given it was the first night in her room. Wake ups and fed - properly fed - at 11:30 and 2:45, then woke again and comfort fed and fussed for a bit at 4:40, back into her cot at about 5:15 then slept til 6:40! So could have been worse. Bit zonked this morning but we managed to DTD for the first time in weeks!

Brew for all those who had shitty nights or days yesterday.

How is baby havent?

haventgotaclue1 · 18/08/2015 08:36

Had a "normal" temp for last 48 hours but still covered in rash. Doc gave her a thorough check-up and said she's ok, just a viral infection....Still bit grizzly and wants cuddles, but not sure how much of this is down to teething - am convinced I can see the 2nd one appearing despite the first one only coming along on Saturday Grin. Thanks for asking Twig Smile

haventgotaclue1 · 18/08/2015 08:37

Ark, I'm. With. You. Teething sucks.

ladydolly · 18/08/2015 08:37

Teeth continue to play up here, she got all 4 top teeth over the weekend, poor thing. Sleep was relatively ok given that! Down at 7, woke at 1.45 for an epic feed but it took me another hour to get her back down until 5.45 when I brought her into bed with me for another long feed until I slipped out at 6.20 while she carried on sleeping for another half an hour.

Dgm is in charge today, eeek!

Matchsticks and hugs for the tired ones among us :)

Annarose2014 · 18/08/2015 09:31

O teeth here but to say I am dreading it is an understatement. People keep on asking and asking about how many teeth he has, and when I say none they're over-dramatically SHOCKED and then go on about how he'll probably get 5 in one go. Errrr, thanks for that.

Now that he's discovered he can pull himself up the side of the cot, naptimes are a bit hairy as he thinks its playtime. We tried for 45 mins this morning and eventually the only thing for it was to bring him upstairs to his pitch black room. Thank god for blackout blinds!

He has his 9 month check this morning. DH is bringing him to give me a bit if a break which is brilliant. Can't wait to find out how much he weighs as he's already huge!

Thisisimpossible · 18/08/2015 09:36

Four in one go Ladydolly! Eeeek!

We had two bottom teeth about three weeks apart and that was 5 weeks ago. Nothing since.

I totally jinxed the sleeping through with my comment. Since then he's been up and shouting regularly in the small hours. Matchsticks and big cups of tea here too. I really wish I liked coffee at times like this.

ladydolly · 18/08/2015 09:44

And her front 2 are huuuuge like her dads!

You know what, some babies breeze through teeth and you'd never know, maybe you'll have that experience!!

OP posts:
Annarose2014 · 18/08/2015 12:15

Well he's 9.6kg (21lbs)

and 76cm long, which is at the high end.

I've forgotten what everyone elses are, are yours much the same?

The doctor did say he was "A1" which is a massive relief. She also said 3 bottles a day would suffice at this stage. Oh and said that with the dairy intolerance to keep with the special formula but try to introduce cows milk into cereal now and see what happens.

Greenstone · 18/08/2015 12:28

Another dense one here who didn't realise there was a new thread.

Well DD went all night last night without a feed which was a first, HOWEVER, it was all a bit of a balls and a terrible night. I wasn't actually trying to night-wean her fully, but I just didn't want to feed her again at 11pm because she'd eaten loads, drank loads, and was KNACKERED after lots of weekend travel. So I was determined to rock her back to sleep without feeding/get DH to do it.

It was just terrible! He went in first and she gale-force screeched him down. I had just fallen asleep and was still pissed-off and groggy when I took over and kept getting fed up with all the patting and rocking so it was a ridiculous drawn-out process and I just got really cross Blush At some point I realised that although feeding her would have been a magic bullet and we could have closed the thing right down, it would have only taught her to hold out for longer and that she would have been fed eventually! So had to wait it out.

It took almost 3 hours. Then she slept til 6.45. I'm really tired and need to figure out a plan for tonight. There's absolutely no sign of her dropping this 10/11pm wake-up whatsoever. Sometimes she goes back down like a dream, other times she wants to play and sing. But either way she's really holding fast to it. I thought that the crawling would have made her more tired but it's not happening so far.

We're on the road again next weekend for a long drive with the dds - ugh, car journeys with children! Have just ordered a load of baby snack bribes in the weekly shop.

Hope baby haven't is better and that baby happy will do a better night tonight. Babies twig and aukerman are adorable!

eastmidswarwicknightnanny · 18/08/2015 12:30

Anna ds was about that few weeks ago think 9.25kg he is now on 3 bf during day waking, 5pm and bedtime and 1-2 overnight.

Nap training was unsuccessful today ended in proper sobbing and took me 20mins to calm him he is now asleep on me he will be 9mths on thur so a shite time to try really with separation anxiety kicking in.

Nursery settling in sessions we get 2 lots 2.5hrs one we stay and other leave them so he goes with me week before and on his own day before not ideal but just when they could fit us in as with me I needed a morning as couldn't do 2-4.30 with collection of ds1 from school at 3. I did suggest a 1.30-4 n I leave him for last hr n collect ds1 n go to park but haven't heard back

Thisisimpossible · 18/08/2015 14:13

Do they all get separation anxiety at some point? Or do some of them just not worry, full stop? DS doesn't seem to be remotely bothered about who's holding him, or whether we're in the room with him or not, and when he woke the other night when we were out and the babysitter (who he'd never met) gave him his bottle he didn't give two figs and went straight back to sleep.

Is he normal? Or do I need to worry?
