moggle towards the end of babydolly's phase of middle of the night parties I used to just put her on the floor and let her crawl around for a bit (sometimes 10 minutes sometimes 45) I didn't play with her though. It was shorter (and easier) than 2 hours of wrestling her back to sleep. We had the same thing that she didn't want me but didn't want me NOT there either. Weird things these babies.

Welcome back to the working world haven't hope it wasn't too painful!!

We had a two hour wrestling match last night also. But I blame myself cos we had two wakes up prior to that where I watched him in tne monitor whilst he sat straight up blinking for about 10 mins but didn't actually stand up and then resettled.

But the 3rd time he stood up and wailed and I went straight in thinking I'd better settle him once and for all. HAH!

Cue: two horrendous hours where he was merrily singing to himself and even started laughing when I rocked him!

Finally wrestled him to sleep at 3.30. I hadn't actually slept yet at all at that point.

So I think I should have just given him 5 mins when he stood up the 3rd time. I suspect I made it worse and just ended up stimulating him whereas if I hadn't gone in he'd have gone back to sleep himself a lot sooner than 2 hours!

Its so hard to know the right thing to do, isn't it?

eastmidswarwicknightnanny · 03/12/2015 04:13

I sympathise with sleep issues ours go from not great to utterly shit and working on 4hrs of broken sleep is bloody hard going.

Had ds2 nursery parents eve last night he is doing ok. They are trying to encourage use of his feet he pulls up to knees and sits on his knees but not to feed I am not concerned, at 9-12mths check hv said she would ring every mth to see how he was getting on with that gross motor skills development but 2mths or more have passed and heard zilch. If he shows no signs walking by 18mths then I will get him checked out but sure he will be making some progress by then.

Nursery had to ring me at work yesterday as he had a high temp so I gave consent for them to give paracetamol and then he was fine he has yet another cough so another virus I am sure really chesty again but reluctant to visit gp yet again so will see how he goes.

MrsAukerman · 03/12/2015 06:50

So we had no wake up until 0530! Although he went back down for 15-20 mins of dozing we're still counting it as a sleep through (our first since about 4 months).
I'm deeply suspicious.

Annarose2014 · 03/12/2015 10:39

Last night he woke up at 2am, pulling himself up to standing and whinging loudly whilst looking expectantly at the door.

So I thought if I go in now, it'll be 4am before I get him down. Fuck that!

So I decided that I'd only go in if he burst out crying. He whinged and moaning and complained loudly for half an hour, all the whilst looking at the door. At one point he was trying to climb out of the cot to come to us! Pretty hard for me to stop myself going in tbh. But I kept telling myself he wasn't crying.......

30 of the longest minutes of my life later, he lay down and went to sleep. Thank God!

DH and I are shattered and frazzled this morning but both agree it was the lesser of two evils. We're going to keep it up.

Arkkorox · 03/12/2015 17:10

Anna that sounds promising!

Dd has some odd cold/cough thing going on, she's poorly for a couple of hours then fine?!

haventgotaclue1 · 03/12/2015 19:45

Oh Anna, I'm just sat waiting for that phase to hit us. ...dd has only just started to stand up in her cot bed and then cries cos she can't get back down (I assume).

Think she's got another bout of conjunctivitis Sad. Will see what it's like tomorrow and decide whether it's another trip to the docs for drops as don't want it to get worse over the weekend and we have nothing for it.

On a bf note, I'm seriously concerned that my ability to produce milk is disappearing. It suddenly seems to have fallen off the edge of a cliff and there's poor dd sucking away and getting bugger all for her efforts. ...thinktthe switch to a beaker of cow's milk is going to be sooner than I'd envisaged (mind you, if someone had said to me 12 months ago that I'd still be bf now, I'd have thought that they were taking illegal substances Wink)
Any other bfeeders made the switch / stopped yet?

Strawberryfield12 · 04/12/2015 08:59

Its DD birthday today. She got ITNG train so is pushing the buttons and I can finally sit down with MN without her coming over to take iPad away. Yay! We got up Christmas tree last night. She lost interest in it as soon as she tried to touch it and the needles were sharp. Long it may last...

She only woke once last night, had half bottle and straight back to sleep. After all the night parties this is like blooming sleeping through for me!

When she wants to get out of cot she stands up and tries to pull herself over the rails. Its scary to watch, good the cotbed is heavy and wont budge, but one day she will get herself out of it. Just hope she falls better and we dont have another trip to a&e.

Arkkorox · 04/12/2015 09:14

Happy birthday babystrawberry!

Can't believe this time last year I was STILL sat on a ward being induced Grin

Annarose2014 · 04/12/2015 10:47

So what are you all getting them for christmas?

We know we're getting an Iggle Piggle as he laughs every time he comes on screen....but we're a bit confused as to what else.

DH doesn't want anything noisy as he says he's already got RING RING! THE ANIMALS SING! in his head at all times.

Oh and who can forget:

THANKSFOR..THANKSFOR..TH..TH..THANKSFOR..THANKSFOR..CAAALLING!

Grin

So any non-noisy recommendations?

Arkkorox · 04/12/2015 10:50

I have no idea. We're waiting to see what she gets given for her birthday tomorrow then we can fill in the gaps for Christmas!

ladydolly · 04/12/2015 14:54

It'll be minimal whatever it is! I got her a keyboard mat thing (so, noisy, sorry) a set of pj's, a couple of dvds. She'll get plenty of bits from family so we won't get too much.

This MMR jab is no fun is it? She's had a raging temp ever since and looking very pale. Only a little out of sorts though so still at cm's.

OP posts:
eastmidswarwicknightnanny · 04/12/2015 16:53

Non noisy a large wooden activity cube, little tikes rocker, skuttle bug, toy hoover, sit n ride, toddler slide.

Ds2 is getting toot toot stuff from us and some wooden puzzles. From family members activity cube, little tikes rocker, and a little tikes garden picnic table to share with ds1.

Still bf three times a day plus God knows how many overnight every time I cut down overnight he gets ill. Another nasty cough viral of course. I plan to bf until 2yrs but will reduce to 2 day feeds at 13/14mths then just bedtime from around 18mths.

Strawberryfield12 · 04/12/2015 19:47

DD today survived an hour of a very classical Christmas music concert in a small chapel! slap me on that smug face because I cannot help myself! We were sat at the exit and had to have a walk around the back of the chapel, but otherwise she was quiet and didn't make any disturbance. The first three pieces she was sat on DH lap listening fascinated, but then her attention span was over.

Anna with DD atm the hit are all the noisy and flashy toys, her favourite presents today were vtech baby laptop and ninky nonk. Also her rugdoll Polly from previous Christmas is a big hit, she keeps charming and kissing her all the time. I wonder if she thinks she's alive.
Because her birthday and Christmas are so close, I have bought her toys for 18+ months so that she has something to grow into before the end of 2016. She also got today playmobil large zoo and Tomy pick'n'pop (no interest in those two yet). For Christmas there will be some cardboard books, which she likes a lot, lego duplo, Upsy Daisy and Iggle Piggle, some nice 12-18months clothes instead of the usual Tesco multibuys and a wigwam. I'm suspicious that the latter is my own childhood dream Blush Me and sister used to build huts using dining chairs and broomsticks, covering the construction with double-bed blankets, so I got very excited about the real thing...
I had that thought about how lucky we are this year that we can buy them what we like or think they will like. I almost start twitching imagining she would ask me Barbie doll in few years time (hate that thing with passion!).

moggle · 04/12/2015 20:01

Oh the walker!! Don't forget "peekaboo" DD flips the door a zillion times a day. I have got to say though I find vtech toys less annoying than one might expect considering they are going off all waking hours here. They probably did proper scientific research into that!

For Xmas we've bought DD the toot toot safari, a wooden push along duck thing, some small bits from Tiger including a mini shopping basket. She played for hours with a Russian doll at my parents' today so that might be an idea if any babies also like putting things in things? DD is obsessed!

I think if anyone else asks we might ask for a little life backpack with reins (have a feeling she is going to be an escaping nightmare once she gets going), an aqua doodle mat and a magna doodle. And my parents are eyeing up the ikea play kitchen.
TBH her favourite toy at the moment is a millicano coffee tin with lid, filled with empty cotton reels so I don't think she'll want much,,, long may it last!

haventgotaclue1 · 04/12/2015 20:10

Uhhhhh. Dd has conjunctivitis AGAIN Sad. Must have been all of 2 weeks that she was free of the 1st bout.

I don't know about anyone else's current experience, but at the moment dd is being incredibly clingy and demanding of me - not DH, only mummy will do....it's SO tiring sometimes: I literally cannot put her down without the world apparently coming to an end. If I'm in the same room as her but not giving her my undivided attention, she throws a complete tantrum; yet if we're in different rooms and she can't hear / see me, she's absolutely fine Hmm. I'm hoping this is a phase which is over soon.....

Dd's getting a wooden rocking giraffe for Christmas - Sainsbury's were doing a toy sale about a month ago and I got it then (for about £12 Grin) - and er, that's it for the moment Blush.....she's got so many toys already (lots of hand-me-downs from friends)....

ladydolly · 04/12/2015 20:28

haven't Urgh, what a nightmare for you, It's really contagious though isn't it so I guess she could have picked it up again. more boob milk in the eye then?

And yes, dd definitely had an 'only mummy will do' phase, heart warming for about 2 days then just really difficult. For us it lasted a couple of weeks. Nights were the worst, she would freak out as soon as dp went in the room. At the moment she still prefers me which is very unusual but not so much that she rejects dp totally...

So we've nearly filled up the thread, ideas for the next one? The one with the tantrums? The one where we can't believe we've a year has passed? The one that's sponsored by calpol? The one where babydolly finally sleeps through the night? (Here's hoping!)

OP posts:
Arkkorox · 04/12/2015 20:34

The one where ANY of them might sleep through the night Grin

Annarose2014 · 04/12/2015 23:29

The one where they need reins! Grin

Am definately going to have to buy a pair before we go on holiday at Easter!

I didn't realise we were at the stage of getting rockers! Never thought about that.

Btw moggle DSs favourite toy for the last two weeks is an empty jar of Burts Bees bum balm. We haven't washed it out as its the slatheriness clinging to the glass that he really enjoys. He carries it around with him everywhere, occasionally stopping to have a good slithery root around inside. God, that makes him sound feral! Blush

Strawberryfield12 · 05/12/2015 20:43

The next thread will be the one where sleep deprived mums get drugged along with the reins. Grin

Before I had DD I used to roll my eyes on people having reins for their kids and comment how they have their own kids like a dog on lead. I should just cross my everything we can skip this baby gadget or I will be eating my own words...

Goodness, it's so windy here! Why did I have to have this weekend away on the coast? At least we are not in Scotland or north England, must be absolutely horrible there.

ladydolly · 06/12/2015 13:06

Last night was HIDEOUS!! I couldn't get her to sleep until 10pm, 3 bloody hours!!! Then she was up every couple of hours. I've got a terrible cough so ended up heading to the sofa to let dp get some sleep but I was wide awake. Up for the day at 6.15. I feel dreadful. But, more unpacking to be done while dp and dd are out.

Hope no one has been blown away out there??

OP posts:
MrsAukerman · 06/12/2015 14:15

Still in one piece here but very windy. Luckily I'm in a city but there's been some damage not far away more rurally.
I've had company this weekend while DH worked Saturday. See pic!
