First birthdays are starting to arrive and our babies are becoming toddlers! What will the next year have in store?

DS has become very fussy too. He will happily eat peas and sweetcorn but any other veg has to be chopped up into tiny pieces and cooked in something like an omlette. He loves chilli and curry but will change his mind from one day to the next! He has never liked bananas and is changeable with things like strawberries/blueberries but will eat toast all day long!

TeamEponine · 19/03/2016 06:11

DD is a banana and berry obsessive! She would also quite happily live on cheese. An interesting combination!

We are suddenly getting lots of two word utterances! She is such a chatterbox and wants to be making conversation constantly. Either that or reading yet another bloody book. She woke up the other day saying "book"!

lilone1234 · 19/03/2016 15:37

Aw Team, a little bookworm! 'book' is one of our favourite words here too. She's trying very hard to say 'ball' too but the L sound is difficult so that becomes 'book' sometimes too!

She's been fussy eating for a long time, just starting to get better now. Trying at least a bit of most things rather than refusing whole meals!

E does have lots of words hmmmm but he will not say mummy he looks at me smiles and says daddy, I'm thinking of exchanging him for another lol!!

CumbrianExile · 21/03/2016 09:42

Lol Cookie that might be a good idea Grin

Still not really any words here. Not too worried though, he understands well enough and can get across what he wants. He is trying, so I expect we will get words soon enough.

He loves melon. I just got some for my breakfast and think I got 1 piece. He also loves cheese. If I make a cheese sandwich he picks all the cheese out and leaves the bread! He isn't very fussy at all, but sometimes will just not eat/pick at the meals I make. Its odd as he always eats everything at nursery. If he doesn't eat what I offer I will give him fruit or veg sticks and he still drinks a lot of milk.

He is also a book worm, I am always reading to him. Both me and DH read a lot too though so I think it was inevitable!

TeamEponine · 21/03/2016 14:22

This weekend's food obsession was dates and sunflower seeds. Her nappy this morning was terrifying!!!

KitKat1985 · 21/03/2016 18:03

Cumbrian DD doesn't say much yet either, but she does babble a lot.

Team Grin re: this morning's nappy.

Found out this afternoon that I'm pregnant again! Shock I've had pretty much no symptoms this month so counted myself as out, so I'm still in shock. Can't wait to tell DH when he gets home!

Topsyloulou · 21/03/2016 18:27

Congratulations kitkat, that's fab news. Will that be a Christmas due date?

That nappy sounds interesting Team!

DS eats anything & everything. The only things he won't eat are celery & brussel sprouts. He was ill last week & I knew it was coming as he was off his food which never happens. I have to share pretty much every meal with him. I've had to start hiding in the kitchen if I want a snack!

Lots of chatting here. This weekend he learnt to say mess. He doesn't like any food debris etc on his hands so as soon as he's finished eating he holds his hands up & days mess. He's just starting singing, row your boat is his favourite, closely followed by Rihanna's work, he just sings work over & over. I can't stand Rihanna but he isn't happy if I turn it over.

LillyBugg · 21/03/2016 19:35

Ha ha topsy, Rihanna?!

DS has been full of mischief here today. Nursery tell me they turned around and found him standing on the dining table Shock And we've had tantrums and everything today. But in the car on the way home I sang wind the bobbin up and he did lots of the actions on his own! I might have had a little cry in the car...I'm such a wuss lol!

The words are coming thick and fast now, it's really nice to hear and it does make life a little easier! I've got some first word books from the library and he just can't get enough of them.

That's great news Kitkat congratulations. I always take my tests with DH, you must be bursting with excitement! We are on our fourth cycle trying here, DS took three so a little disheartening. I'm trying to avoid the conception boards because I don't want to get worked up about it.

CumbrianExile · 21/03/2016 19:48

Congratulations KitKat that's great news Thanks.

DS also babbles a lot, he has what look like interesting conversations with himself. I wish I could understand him.

[Grin] Team at the nappy. We had fajitas on Saturday, A's nappy on Sunday morning was lovely haha/

polkadotdelight · 21/03/2016 20:00

Wow! Congratulations kitkat!

FATEdestiny · 21/03/2016 20:12

Kitkat that's ace! I an mighty impressed you told us before the father (of two) to be

TeamEponine · 21/03/2016 21:54

Massive congratulations Kitkat! How did DH react? You must be so pleased Grin

Lilly- fingers crossed that next month is your month!!!

DD loves singing too, and her current favourite is Twinkle Twinkle. It's a bit mumbled, but the tune is recognisable. I keep trying to video her doing it, but she instantly stops.

I'm back at work ft soon. I have very mixed feelings about it, but the decision is made.

lilone1234 · 21/03/2016 23:07

Big congratulations KitKat!

Topsy - Rihanna, that's fab!

Lily - I would have cried too! DD still doesn't really like nursery rhymes too much. She throws a fit if I try to do row row row the boat with her Confused but she has started doing a 'bit' from mr tumble. The 'take your finger, touch your nose, blink 3 times and off it goes' and uses the same tone and does the actions but can only really say nose and goes!

cookielove · 22/03/2016 07:16

Awwww congratulations kitkat

E doesn't get row row he just throws himself backwards!

E favourite saying is ready steady go! It is so sweet!

TeamEponine · 22/03/2016 08:17

Oh, Lil, I'm pleased you have a tumble fan too! DD sings the hello song very clearly. I always try to stop her doing it in public for fear of being judged for too much screen time!

lilone1234 · 22/03/2016 14:18

Haha I know what you mean Team - I feel the same especially given her refusal to join in any action songs, apart from the hopping part of sleeping bunnies! I'm definitely guilty of too much screen time though Blush

Ahh thank you for the congrats ladies. Hope it happens for you soon too LilyBugg. Flowers Due date will be late November / early December-ish. It's very early days though so I'm still feeling cautious, especially given my lack of symptoms. DH was pleased. I sort of dropped it in casually when he asked how my day was. I said 'oh you know work training was boring, popped to Tesco, put the laundry out, found out I was pregnant, the usual things'. His mouth dropped open wide. It was very funny. I wanted to tell him in person this time as I told him on the phone last time. xx

Nazly · 23/03/2016 23:28

That's so sweet Kitkat, and many congratulations - are you excited ? I hope everything goes smoothly for you :)

Ds is an Adel fan, we got the new album in the car and if it is on in the car, nobody dares changing it Grin I told his nursery carer about this and one morning when we arrived she started singing hello for him and his reaction was honestly priceless Grin
I have a massive chatterbox here but in contrary to you ladies I don't understand most of what he is saying; not sure if it is me or him (or a combination!!!)

I read something on dr sears website about fussy kids and how to do tray of snacks - and I really liked the idea and tried it a few times with various degree of success...

lilone1234 · 27/03/2016 09:29

I'll have to look at that snack tray thing Nazly!

Happy Easter ladies! Hope clocks going forward wasn't too brutal for anyone!

FATEdestiny · 27/03/2016 11:20

DDs usual lunch is buffet style. Came as a consequence of her not being a big bread fan. So instead of a sandwich, she has the contents of a sandwich but without the bread - a slice of ham, chunks of cheeses, cherry tomatoes and cucumber slices for example.

I also tend to merge together lunch and desert in a way I'm not used to and she eats better. Previously she'd have lunch until she stops eating, clear up lunch and then give fruit.

Now she has buffet style lunch, when she starts pushing it away I clear 'lunch' to one side of the tray and bring fruit on the other side of the tray. I often find when she's had something sweet that she will go back and have another nibble at what was left of lunch.

Don't know if that's worth a try for those with fussy eaters.

Clock change in spring is quite nice I find. Not the 'hour less in bed' like the Time Before Children. Instead it becomes that the usual 7am wake up says 8am on the click. No actual change in sleep but psychologically it's nice to think I got up at 8am not 7am.

Naps will be weird for a few days tho.

Happy Easter everyone! ThanksEaster Grin

cookielove · 27/03/2016 13:33

I am just carrying on as usual with E's routine, I knew it was soon the clock change but didn't realise it had happened! E woke at 7:45 this am so 6:45 really but that is normal for him! He has had his lunch and is down for a nap now!

I love the idea of a buffet lunch but E's fussyness stems from not wanting to pick up things he doesn't want to eat! So he will eat a whole range of foods off a spoon (albeit mostly jar/premade stuff and more home cooked things) but he wouldn't pick up any kind of meat or vegetable!

Hmmm these things he would eat off of a tray:

Blueberries. Apples. Satsuma
Nectarines. Peas. Chips
Toast. Breadsticks. Raisins
Grapes. Melon. Crackers
Baby crisps. Cheese dippers
Freeze dried strawberry and yoghurt things

Hmmm I think thats it. So really he is good with fruit and dry stuff but pretty rubbish at other stuff! I just offer it ever so often and pray one day he will pick it up and try it. He is very curious about food though always wanting our food but refuses if we offer!

LillyBugg · 27/03/2016 19:59

Well the day was going so well until bed time...everything was spot on time! Now I am mumsnetting in the dark to prevent the screaming. He just wasn't ready for bed at 7, not tired at all. Hopefully he will drop off soon...

TeamEponine · 28/03/2016 08:10

Somehow, although we have just been away for a few days, had a two hour time difference and has the clocks change, DD still managed to wake at her usual 5.40. I was really hoping to sleep an extra hour today Sad

FATEdestiny · 28/03/2016 22:24

I tried to use the clocks changing try stopping the morning nap. Managed one day on one nap, but that was it. Back to our two nap days. I am soo desperate for her to be ready to drop this morning sleep so we can start doing stuff.

Collecting our new puppy tomorrow! Easter Grin
