If DD is refusing to eat and I really feel she needs something, the most effective solution is to get DH to sit on the couch with something to eat. Then she's desperate for it, whatever it is!

TeamEponine · 29/02/2016 18:34

Seems like private men b jabs are no longer allowed anywhere Angry

Acorncat · 29/02/2016 20:06

Shortage of men b vaccine everywhere it seems Sad. It's crazy how much of an impact that recent campaign had!

TeamEponine · 29/02/2016 20:10

It isn't a shortage issue. They had it there, but are no longer allowed to give it. I called the other local private place near us and they said the same thing. They have it in stock, but are no longer allowed to administer it.

Acorncat · 29/02/2016 22:01

Interesting, people are definitely being told there's a shortage here but I wonder what the real problem is. Mine has already had it, hope there isn't a problem with the vaccine!

TeamEponine · 01/03/2016 08:18

I don't think it is an issue with supply or the vaccine. I may be a cynic, but my first guess is it is financially motivated. As demand increases, so can the price! I assume they are holding it back to renegotiate the price!

lilone1234 · 01/03/2016 13:38

What I've read is that the private clinics have been asked by the drug manufacturer to stop giving new courses of the vaccine (because you need 2-3 doses), there is a shortage so although there is some stock they need to finish the full course for people that have had it, and be able to make sure they can offer all doses to new patients. And they have to give priority of their supply to the NHS to guarantee all the young babies can have it as part of the immunisation schedule. The demand for it has gone up massively, so I do think there is a shortage. However, I definitely agree that when private clinics are able to start new courses there will have been a big price jump!

Can't say I've ever done dinner in the bath! Does anyone else have the ikea highchair? I'm slightly regretting that one now as DD just stands up in it now as it's just a waist strap and I think she finds it uncomfortable as she's always trying to put her legs up. So she's always in a rush to get out when having her meals so is practically always nagging for a snack! Ah meal times, such frustration!

Oh and team - can I ask why you got your DD the chicken pox vaccine? Does it protect for life? I've always been under the impression it's not a big deal to have has a child, only sometimes as an adult.

Fate that is a very cute puppy. I do remember your last dog being put down. I bet you can't wait to welcome your new family member.

Team glad things are a bit better at work.

The Meningitis B thing makes me so cross. I would like to get DD vaccinated for it too but doesn't sound like I'll be able to right now. Probably demand will calm down in a couple of months once recent media attention has faded, so may be worth trying again then?

Booked a holiday to Spain for June last night. Very excited!!! Grin

Acorncat · 01/03/2016 15:56

lil I know you asked Team, but I got DS the chicken pox vaccine too. It should protect for life, though rarely they can catch chicken pox, in the same way that people do occasionally get it more than once (but it should be very mild). If DS was female I'd advise him getting immunity tested before pregnancy and I suppose there's no harm in just getting it checked in 20 years anyway. I got it done because although most cases are mild there's still plenty that have nasty side effects and if I can prevent him from suffering then I will. Plus, it's cheaper to get the vaccine than take a week off work unpaid when he catches it!

TeamEponine · 01/03/2016 16:25

We decided to get the chicken pox vaccine done mainly for very bad mummy and daddy reasons! If she got it, it would potentially be two weeks off nursery as they, understandably, have a strict exclusion criteria. DH has a job where it is very difficult to get last minute time off for a sick baby. My job has some flexibility, but I simply could not have an unexpected block of time off like that. We have no family nearby to help out. So, possibly selfishly, our main reason was because of our jobs. Sad

It is supposed to be very good protection, although they do suggest a booster when they are older.

Oh, a holiday sounds very exciting Kitkat! I love Spain.

lilone1234 · 01/03/2016 16:54

That's interesting about the vaccine ladies, I'd never thought of it like that. Thanks for filling me in!

KitKat - I love a good summer holiday in Spain, so relaxing! We are off to Paris and Sicily in June for our honeymoon, with DD!

From what I've heard private clinics should be able to start offering the Men B vaccine again in June, I'm on a waiting list with a clinic, so you could do that.

So much to catch up on.

Team if I am struggling to get A to eat something then I sit down to eat, he seems to prefer things from my plate than his lol.

Fate gorgeous pup, I am sure he will be a good addition to your family.

KitKat - I am soo jealous, our family holiday this year is to Wales. I am looking forward to it, but would love some (virtually) guaranteed sun Grin

I think A is getting more of his back teeth at the moment, he hasn't been himself at all, very clingy. I had to pick him up from nursery early today. Hoping he is well enough to go back tomorrow, as soon as I got him home today he came to life Hmm

Nazly · 02/03/2016 22:13

Hello all Smile I am not getting enough chance to read here everyday but just thought I should add a quick post and say how much I enjoy reading you all ladies when I do get the chance

Puppy is super cute Fate :)

KitKat1985 · 03/03/2016 11:06

Yeah I completely get why you ladies have gone for the chicken pox vaccine. This winter has been a nightmare for having to have time off work for illness related things. DD has been on antibiotics 3 times this winter, plus she has had several viruses, all of which she gets sent home from nursery for. Each time this has required DH to take time off work (it's easier for him than me to do it because he can do some work from home, but obviously with me being a ward-based nurse I can't do that). Unfortunately the bugs have hit both me and DH too so we've both had quite a lot of time off work too. For me alone, I've had 2 fluey viruses since winter started, D&V twice (lovely!), tonsillitis and an inner ear infection which made me dizzy / sick. Prior to this winter I don't think I've had a sick day in about 2-3 years. This winter I seem to have had loads. DH is the same and is off work currently with flu which he caught from me last week! DH had already been warned prior to getting this bout of flu that his level of sick / compassionate leave for DD for this work year was becoming a cause for concern, so now I'm really stressed he is going to get a warning when he goes back to work. Sad Gahhhh!

Roll on summer when all these winter bugs so away!

FATEdestiny · 03/03/2016 14:06

My eldest was potty trained in the 7 days we were isolated at home with chicken pox. Not being able to leave the house has it's uses :-)

World Book Day today - I chuffing hate enforced arts and crafts. Huckleberry Finn, Stick Man and The Cat in The Hat I have done this year. Easter bonnets in a fortnight

I tried putting a bobble in DDs hair today. First time she's kept it in.

LillyBugg · 03/03/2016 17:50

I bet she looked sweet fate!

I'm just recovering from a bout of stomach flu :( god it was awful this time, I actually slept on the bathroom floor. DS has had a few bad nappies but doesn't seem to have caught it fully luckily. I've also taken two sick days from work this winter and before that I think I'd had one day off in 3 years. If I'm off again that will trigger an absence review, which I normally hold so that would be weird!

The fancy dress days fill me with dread! I do think it's got rather out of hand, shouldn't it be about books today rather than dressing up?! Congrats to you fate on doing 3 costumes!!

KitKat1985 · 03/03/2016 20:48

Hope you feel better soon LillyBugg. Stomach bugs are the worst and as I say I've been cursed twice this winter myself with them. [Part of the problem of working in a hospital is that we're all a bit doomed each time a patient comes in with D&V]. Hopefully it's a short-term thing and the rest of your family don't catch it. x

Fate well done on the 3 World Book day costumes. DD was due in nursery today and I know because it said in their winter newsletter that they were encouraging all the kids to dress up as book characters. However I'm afraid to say given that she is only 1 year old I chose to ignore this, as she has no concept of what World Book day is and frankly I couldn't be bothered ! Blush Thankfully most other parents with children DD's age chose to do the same so she wasn't the odd one out! x

TeamEponine · 03/03/2016 20:53

I did the world book day costume in reverse. Get an easy costume then find the book you can say it is from. DD was Alice in wonderland! She can't really say what her favourite book is yet, and Alice is one of the books she does ask for very frequently Grin

CumbrianExile · 03/03/2016 21:12

I also didn't do the world book day costume. We were only notified on Tuesday and I didn't have chance to get anywhere to buy anything (and I am awful at sewing). I did plan to send him in his Batman sleep suit, but I couldn't find it this morning. But like KitKat most other parents of the little ones seemed to have not done anything either.

cookielove · 04/03/2016 20:42

We reused his Halloween costume which was a penguin and we own "that's not ny penguin"
