Holls, yes- me!

holls2000 · 15/08/2015 22:53

phew nazly. Thank goodness. g have decided it's excitement at being able to make a new sound?

lilone1234 · 15/08/2015 23:24

Holls - my DD does too, I think that's it as they just realise once they have enough teeth that it's something they can do.

Oh god, I hate the grinding teeth! DS goes through phases of doing it. Yet another cold, he's had more since starting nursery than in the 10 months before that.

cookielove · 16/08/2015 09:45

E grinds his teeth, I hate it! He has recently learned to blow bubbles which is much less annoying and he does more often!

CumbrianExile · 16/08/2015 11:03

1st birthdays already! Can't believe how quickly this year has gone! Hope you had lovely days and partys Cookie and Nazly

Acorn DS had a permanant cold for the first 6-7 weeks of nursery. He has only really got over it now. I think its just mixing with all the other children and picking up new germs, but it wasn't much fun!

No teeth grinding yet, but we still only have the two bottom teeth. Can feel his top teeth now, but still can't see them. Thanks for the warning though Grin

Hope your DD managed another full nights sleep Team

holls2000 · 16/08/2015 12:26

Dreadful nights here at the moment. b wakes up for 2 hrs and cries. i am putting it down to teeth tho as he has one coming through, one just through and another two starting to peep out. deep joy.

She didn't sleep through last night, but that's ok. I wasn't really expecting her to. I'm actually ok with just feeding her once. We are going to wait until after her birthday and see if she self-weans off of that feed. If she hasn't, we will start diluting the milk to get her off of it!

Acorn, sorry, you asked about the milk ladder. We had to stop as her reflux got bad again. Not sure whether it was the milk or not. Anyway, we increased her ranitidine back up and got the reflux back under control. She's currently on the lasagne step and seems to be doing ok on it. She's fine with soy too. At first she wasn't to keen on the alpro yogurts, but she now quite enjoys the smooth ones. How's your DS getting on?

Acorncat · 17/08/2015 06:54

team that's a shame her reflux came back but at least she's tolerating some now. We're still waiting on his blood allergy tests to come back, we were starting the first step and he was fine but I may as well wait. Though I'm pretty sure his results will be negative given the reactions he has. I'd be happy just to get half up the ladder, it would be much easier if we could eat some dairy. Seeing the dietician in a few weeks and I think she'll say start the start again now. It's difficult when they're still on their reflux meds as maybe they're just controlling the reflux caused by the milk. DS is still on full dose and no sign of decreasing that either.

holls2000 · 17/08/2015 07:28

Thanks so much Ella, i feel better now. dh has been great since we got home, and b has had a great weekend messing around with daddy, i feel so relieved.

can I ask a stupid question? can pnd hit late after birth? just am very weepy at the moment and not handling stuff as well as i could.

also, how many of you have had a night where baby has stayed with in laws? nursery is closed for a day when I am back at work so mil has said she will collect b the night before and take him back to hers. I'm mildly worried about silly things like setting up the cot and what if he cries in the night? she tells me she ignored dh if he cried!! I think really it's just a big thing handing him over for the first time? right?

KitKat1985 · 17/08/2015 07:30

Polka glad to know I'm not completely alone in finding August a bit challenging / lonely. I've arranged a couple of meet-ups this week with friends which hopefully will make this week better. Hope yours is too. x

Holls I'm sorry your DH was so difficult on holiday. Sad Also sorry to hear B is being so difficult at nights at the moment. Hopefully he'll be better once his teeth are through. x

Team we're the same here - a few occasional random nights of sleeping through but mainly up for 1 feed a night. We've watered now her night milk now but she's still waking for it. Even the nights she 'sleeps through' she's generally up at about 5-5.30ish.

Out of interest how many of us have babies that do sleep through the night pretty consistently at this point? Do most babies sleep through by now? I have no idea. Confused

KitKat1985 · 17/08/2015 08:06

Oh on a complete aside - the Early Learning Centre have a huge sale on toys on right now. We got a baby swimming pool / ball pit for Jessica's birthday plus a big bag of balls for just over £10 for both! x

CumbrianExile · 17/08/2015 08:14

Holls A has stayed with my parents overnight numerous times now. The first when he was only 8 weeks old. Mostly at our house though, but that is more down to circumstance than deliberate. He hasn't stayed at the in-laws on his own though, but again more to circumstance and I would happily leave him with them. We have slightly different parenting styles to both my DP and the PIL, but we all have A best interests at heart so I wouldn't hesitate leaving him with either of them. Having said that, I imagine the longer you leave it to do the harder it must be. I am sure B will be fine though.

KitKat I have a through night sleeper. Sleeps anywhere between 8-9pm to 7-8am. Sometimes later. I usually have to waken him for nursery. He has been like this since he was about 3 months old. I tend not to comment on the sleep questions as I wouldn't know how to help. I don't recall doing anything apart from not wake him for his 1am bottle if he slept through it and although occasionally he will go through a phase of night wakening, it doesn't tend to last long and resolves itself.

Topsyloulou · 17/08/2015 15:18

Kitkat DS sleeps from 7-6.30ish and has done consistently since about 4 months & before that he was only waking in the night rarely apart from feeds & that was mainly as he'd run out of space in the crib. I'm thankful every day that he does sleep well, the occasional bad night with his teeth or ears absolutely knocks me for six now. I'm not a great sleeper & I was worried that he'd take after me but luckily he takes after daddy on this (& everything else).

Thanks for the elc tip too. I've bought DS birthday present but need things for other people to buy him so will pop in tomorrow & take a look.

Has anyone progressed to the next stage car seat yet? What have you gone for? I'm really torn on what to get. Currently thinking of something that will do him til he's 4 & that can stay rear facing a bit longer but they all seem to be £300 plus.

polkadotdelight · 17/08/2015 15:51

Ds was sleeping from 7pm to 5 or 6am and only needing resettling (a ssshhh or dummy) a few times. Since he has learnt to crawl and pull himself to stand bedtimes have become a battleground. Nothing in his bedtime routine has changed but now he constantly stands up in his cot and jumps/shouts etc. Its rare to have him asleep before 8pm these days. He wakes at 5ish but recently if he has a feed (he will take 10oz or so!) he will sleep until 7ish if you can get him resettled. Im coming to dread bedtimes!

We moved to the next stage car seat very early as DS is tall and broad, he was starting to cry in the car and looked really squished in his cabriofix. We went for the maxi cosi axissfix because the swivel function was a godsend and I wanted to keep him rear facing for as long as possible. In hindsight I didnt do as much research as I thought and was led to believe that he could rear face until 4 in that seat. I now realise that its actually 2 years (87cm) but if DS continues to follow his centile chart so well he will actually hit that height at 16 months. Im so bloody annoyed and unsure what to do now because I really wanted rear facing as long as possible.

On a positive note, I went into work for a few hours today and left him with my mum. After work I went to my favourite cafe and had lunch, just me and my book. It was bliss!

holls2000 · 17/08/2015 16:13

We are on next stage car seat. We got a Be Safe one from a friend who had only used it a couple of times, and I got a britax one for my car. He is rear facing in one and forward in the other - he prefers forward, I prefer rear….!

TeamEponine · 17/08/2015 18:58

Dreadful night last night!

We just got a Joie Stages. We had to go for a seat that included stage 0 as she's only just gone over 8kg but was too long for her baby seat. Pleased with the car seat, although I think she will prefer it forward facing. She's used to being in the front, but she's now in the back and rear facing, so she's none too impressed!

Nazly · 17/08/2015 19:06

We are no where near sleeping through.

Our car seat was adjustable firstly because it had small baby inserts that are out now and secondly because it tilts ; although he is a big and tall baby (98%), I think we will be fine for another couple of months before moving up to the next level...

I am so tired these days with 12 hours long working days and so annoyed for not getting to see ds enough some days Angry

Fate, I meant to ask you why you were looking for a van instead of 7 seater; i know you posted a while back; I have no clues on cars, so didn't comment...

PipersOrange · 17/08/2015 19:24

Hi guys catching up, I've name changed since last on the thread though to be fair I didn't post that often. Ds is one on the 26th, he's cruising and standing for a few seconds but absolutely no inclination to do anything more than babble incoherently, no sign that he really understands anything. He does give plenty of kisses though which makes up for it. Teeth grinding is a thing of the last thankfully, he now has 8! Apparently we get a little break before the next ones come through, I'm not looking forward to it!

Started sleeping through by complete fluke a couple of weeks ago. I genuinely think they just will when they're ready, and it's just a fluke whether it's 4 months or 10. we had tried CC and gentle sleep solution but neither worked. At least that's what I tell myself every time my friend with the baby who I kid you not has slept through since 6 weeks Hmm

KitKat1985 · 17/08/2015 20:10

Yes we have a forward facing seat now - a Britax one. I think Jessica prefers it as she loves staring out of the window.

Sounds like most babies are sleeping through now. Happy for you (but also a tad jealous...) Jessica's also awful with napping. I really need to try again and get her into cot naps. She's been up since 5am today and only had 2 half hour naps. She was beyond exhausted. She was hysterical. She actually vomited she was so hysterical. It's draining being with her all day. I'm so frustrated with her sometimes.

PipersOrange can I ask what your MN username used to be? Oh and our SIL & BIL also have a son who has slept through since 6 weeks. Now he sleeps 12-13 hours each night and has a 3 hour nap each day. It's hard not to feel a bit enraged by this.....

cookielove · 17/08/2015 20:42

E has been sleeping through since he was 9 months, but I went on a sleep training course which was basically stop him falling asleep on milk! He now only naps in his cot (or car seat) and self settles for both naps and bedtime!

He sadly often wakes at 5:30, we would prefer if he slept through till 6:30 though! He naps twice a day usually for 1-2 hrs each!

We are still in the maxi cosi pebble, we will keep him that till he grows out as I want him rear facing for as long as possible. We bought the family fix base ( to go with the pebble and pearl) as it seemed the best deal but now of course they have brought out the new pearl + which is rear facing not forward facing but it isn't compatible with our base!! (Grrr) luckily for us though E seems to have long legs and a shorter torso so I think he will make it to 15 months (if not further) before we flip him to forward facing!

holls2000 · 17/08/2015 21:02

not sleeping through here. naps are a bit all over the place. The last couple of days he has had one 1 hr nap, today he had an hour in the car too, but nowhere near the 2 lots of 2 hours he has been having. last night he went 8-5.30 which is the best so far.

Beccus · 17/08/2015 21:07

ds is much better with sleep- usually feeds once at 5ish and occcasionally an earlier one. he may need resettling once or twice with a shh or a pat. sometimes goes back off to sleep after his feed, sometimes not. we have moved to 1 nap a day. he does get tired, but it's just much easier with dd as well, who is nearly 3 and doesn't nap, but plays with her toys in her cot when ds naps. bedtime is 7 now with 1 nap, with 2 it was 8/830

ApplesTheHare · 17/08/2015 21:07

Hello all

We've just been on a little long weekend break. It was lovely but I'm knackered as DD woke in the night while we were away. Those of you who are still getting woken in the night and functioning during the day are amazing. DD's been sleeping through from 7pm-6:30am since she was 6 months, but I've done loads of gradual retreat/gentle training with her for naps during the day to practice self settling.

I'm finding August a bit of an anticlimax too. I go back to work in October and it's hanging over me. Still haven't had chance to ask about going back part time. Whatever work says about that I need to work on enjoying the time I've got left rather than worrying about going back.

DD is 1 in 3.5 weeks.... aaarggh!
