Aw, lovely pictures Fate, she looks like she is enjoying her food Smile

They are very helpful. A loves putting things away, I hope he still likes it in a few years haha.

Nazly · 18/11/2015 20:43

Kitkat welcome back - that's pretty difficult what you are describing; I hope things get sorted quickly for you - not much left till xmas so hope you enjoy then and get a good rest

It did not occur to me , by the way, that they may not be able to receive gifts !!! Shock already spent lots on vouchers last night; I should have checked their policies

Fate those photos are amazing; very cute . How on earth is there so many orange pieces in front of her without her feeling the urge to drop them ?

Feeling very jealous now, ds is not helpful at all; he is actually destructive; dies what he wants not what I want him to do ; but I am in love with this age nevertheless ; apparently everything in the world is either extremely funny or very amusing from a tiny person point of view ! apparently you can dance to most tunes too !!!

lilone1234 · 18/11/2015 20:52

Mine is not unhelpful either! She is suddenly quite in to cleaning today. If given a wipe she will clean the surface in front of her, or her leg. She was helping wipe up water with kitchen roll today...but it was there because she overturned the dog's water bowl!

Oh I love the dancing, so so sweet!

Aww thanks for the lovely comments.

DD ate the whole orange Nazly - including a significant amount of orange peel which must have been really bitter for her.

She isn't much of a food thrower - she likes eating too much! Sometimes stuff gets dropped accidentally, but that is more likely to be smaller things rather than large things (like orange slices)

DD likes 'helping' me do laundry - mainly because it involves moving things from one predictable place to another. Laundry basket to washing machine to tumble drier. So she knows if I'm pulling clothes out of the washing machine then she carries items of clothes to the tumble drier, and so on.

MissMoo22 · 18/11/2015 23:45

M is another one who likes to 'help'. Today she was loading the washing machine and I was wondering where she was getting the items because the basket was empty. She had been going to the sock drawer and taking them one by one to the washing machine.

One thing I keep telling her off about is sneaking into her brothers room and emptying his tubs of hundreds of match attax on the floor! She seems to think it's great fun though.

cookielove · 20/11/2015 08:49

E likes to help with washing one of his favourite things is to pull things in and out if the washing basket. But he just lobs them on the floor. He also is a sock thief and steals them off the airer! Walking around with them in his mouth. Oh and he likes to pull all the clothes he can reach off the airer, he mostly does this when I am putting them on. He is a delight Wink

He had a high temp last night so we were sent to hospital for a check, Dr wasn't too concerned but it was worrying!

CumbrianExile · 20/11/2015 09:45

Hope E is feeling better soon Cookie, its awful when they are ill, and must have been scary going to the hospital.

The pulling clothes of the airer has reminded me of A recent party trick of doing the same thing, but then trying to wear them, which basically ends up with it wrapped over his neck like a scarf. Yesterday he had about 3 items around his neck then he went off crawling. He looked so funny I couldn't tell him off for laughing Grin

LillyBugg · 20/11/2015 09:47

cookie that is worrying. All ok though I hope?

Ds is poorly to. Cough and cold with the occasional temperature. I don't use an actual thermometer, I can just tell by touch. The thermometer I have gives such random readings. Can anyone recommend one? Is it essential?

You knew you're going to have a good day when you choose the colour of your clothes based on what will show the least amount of snot Hmm Think I'll be scrubbing the sofa down before we have guests tomorrow as well. Oh the joys!

Nazly · 20/11/2015 15:55

Oh dear Lili hope he gets well soon; yours too Cookie

I honestly could not do without thermometer ; have used it so many, many times since he is born... We have sth like this Braun Thermoscan 4020 Digital Ear Thermometer https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B002JTWJRC/ref=cmswwrawddpd0twbM4M5DC8
It is brilliant ; very reliable (to be honest cant remember if ours is exactly this model, but same make and very similar ) will check later if you like

LillyBugg · 20/11/2015 15:59

That's quite expensive nazly but thanks for the recommendation.

What do you use it for? I know it sounds silly but I'm not sure I would benefit from knowing ds's exact temperature. I think (hope!) I can tell when he has a temperature anyway. Do you use it to decide whether or not to give calpol?

I probably sound really silly. It was just one of those pieces of baby kit I didn't really get and now ds is poorly I guess I'm doubting myself.

Nazly · 20/11/2015 16:09

Not silly at all lili, you know fever has different definition in different ages, so I could actually record when he had a temperature and when not and how much it was ; i would not give calpol under 38 during the day because temp is good for body helping to kill viruses, bacteria ; Also when he had higher temperature it was my point of reference when we should be going to doctor ; I have ended up in doctors a few times with him being sick and having high temperature and every time they asked how much the temperature was

To be honest the definition of fever is not going to change from now on for us anyhow , so you are right, this may be expensive going forwards; this is the same they use in nhs around here by the way. I heard the next best thing is a good underarm one.

If you haven't felt the need for it till now, what has changed then ?

In fact I may be a bit silly, but If my ds is sick I want to know exactly what the temp is and if more than 39.5 and give calpol I want to monitor how much it comes down after calpol and if it goes back up , etc. etc. it will be also my point of reference for a&e on the basis of temperature - but that hasn't happened till now luckily and hopefully will never happen

FATEdestiny · 20/11/2015 16:20

Cumbrian - My DD does exactly that with clothes. She especially likes 'wearing' her siblings' school ties and will have a collection of three round her neck as soon as they are home from school and changed. She often ends up with loads of things like scarves round her neck as she has been trying to put them on.

MissM - I know what you mean about big brothers room. My 10 year old DS is a bit of a geologist and has a huge collection of rocks and stones on display in his room. I have to stop DD going in there because they are such obvious choke risks. She makes a bee-line for his stone collection when she's in the room though.

Acorncat · 20/11/2015 21:45

I have that thermometer, tho I got it at Costco so it was a lot cheaper! I use it a lot, for the same reasons as Nazly - if it's under 38 I don't give calpol unless he's unhappy. Sometimes I think he feels roasting but actually its not that high, it's just that either I'm ill too or my hands are cold I guess. I like to know exactly how high his temperature is incase he needs to go to the doctor. However I'm probably not the best person to ask as I still use a thermometer to check the bath temperature Blush

Nazly · 21/11/2015 07:33

Haha Acorn I do too Grin

KitKat1985 · 21/11/2015 08:46

Ahh we have Braun thermoscan too. Really helpful to know sometimes. Meant we knew for sure when her temp was about 40c again in the week (although she was bright red so obvious it was going to be high). Jessica back on her 3rd lot of antibiotics - ear infection back and possible UTI still. Sigh.

Lovely pics Fate! x

cookielove · 21/11/2015 11:45

I like to know his exact temperature :)

DS is better but he still isn't eating and he is antibiotics for an infection in his eye lids. I wish he would eat :( although he is having lots of milk so his nappies are still wet.

We use the Braun thermoscan, it is broken though so we are sending it back and they said they would send is a new one. My work thankfully gave me one to use till I get the replacement!

We still use the bath thermometer Grin

FATEdestiny · 21/11/2015 12:50

Well... Erm... I've never owned a bath thermometer and while I have a normal thermometer in the medicine cupboard, it's rarely used. Calpol given when child is clearly poorly. If not, plenty of cuddles, fluids and sleep almost always works with my children.

FATEdestiny · 21/11/2015 12:54

Talking of baths, we have this week just stopped using a bath seat because it was getting more dangerous to use one (with it tipping over when she leans forward) than not. But I don't feel DD is ready for no support in the slippy bath. She enjoyed the bath time freedom tho. Please reassure me that others have stopped using a bath seat too.

CumbrianExile · 21/11/2015 15:11

Fate we don't use a bath seat, never have. We used a baby bath up until about 2 months ago. We stopped when A kept trying to climb out of it, decided it was safer to just put him in the normal bath.

We do have a normal thermometer, but rarely use it.

Hope all the poorly babies get better soon. A has a cough again, not as bad as it was the other week but he is quite sleepy today. Hoping the sleep is helping him fight it off Grin

lilone1234 · 21/11/2015 19:37

We use the munchkin inflatable duck bath which has to be one of our best baby buys. It goes in the big bath and she's happy to sit in it as its so comfy but no worries about slips.

We rarely use our thermometer too, not sure how I'd know if it was right or not really, and she never stays still long enough!

cookielove · 21/11/2015 19:52

We have never used a bath seat or a baby bath, although he did have a towelling thing he would lay on when he was dinky. E mostly baths with Dh for a bit of man and baby time Grin E is very active in the bath climbing everywhere standing up and down etc it's great to get that last bit of energy out of him Wink

Nazly · 21/11/2015 20:00

We had same munchkin thing as lil, but stopped using it some time ago as he wasn't staying in it and wanted to get out- i agree it was one of our best (cheap) buys too lil.

We only used bath seat for a little while, he didn't fit in one since ages and ages ago.. So he is in the big bath and has been for some time; I am not worried ; not more than when he is out of the bath anyhow ;
he is loving it

Right ladies, when does potty training start ? Normally ?

cookielove · 21/11/2015 20:34

nazly most children train between 2 and 3, we have a potty which E will sit on dressed he is very reluctant to do it without a nappy on! A lot of younger siblings will potty train at a younger age as they see their brothers/sisters or family use the loo.

Is your DS showing interest??

polkadotdelight · 21/11/2015 20:39

We stopped using the bath seat about 2 months ago too. We have bought a shower mat (one of those rubbery bubbly jobs) that sticks to the bottom of the bath for a bit of extra grip. Since he outgrew the kitchen sink we've always bathed him in the big bath

Acorncat · 21/11/2015 21:07

I was sad to stop using the inflatable duck! Haven't used it since July. He goes in the bath and I just keep a hand near him as he has a habit of just tipping backwards.
