We are having lots of fun with Lush bath bombs these days!

LillyBugg · 22/11/2015 13:54

If you haven't felt the need for it till now, what has changed then ? Nothing really I guess, just DS has never been as poorly as he has been over the past few days so just doubting all of my parenting choices relating to when he is ill! Thank you for all the varied responses though, it is helpful. I think I might do some reading up on fevers and see if I want to buy a thermometer. Maybe one will come up on Amazon black Friday or something :)

Thankfully DS does seem a little better today which is good because I've got work tomorrow. I was lucky he was ill Thursday and Friday as those are my days off! He is still a little sad, and has had two naps rather than one but has done some playing which is a good sign.

The bath... We have never used a bath seat. We used a sponge thing when he was tiny to lay on but he soon out grew it. He would go nuts if I tried to keep him in a seat in the bath, he loves splashing around and crawling from one end to the other, pulling himself up and chucking his toys over the edge lol. We use a rubber bath mat too to help with the slippiness. I used to use a little duck that changed colour when the water was too warm but quickly gave up on that. Chucked it in the other day and it said the water was too warm! But our bathroom is cold and DS soon complains if he is too hot/too cold so he must be happy with how I run his bath.

Four days of a poorly child and I think i'm getting cabin fever, actually looking forward to going to work tomorrow!

Hope everyone has had a nice weekend!

cookielove · 22/11/2015 14:07

Omg he was wide awake at 4:30am, my neighbours had a party and at midnight the host woke me up to ask if I would let him in as either me or the lady above me had thrown a water bomb down on them (we were both asleep so not us) it takes me an hr to resettles then E stirs as they are still being loud, he then starts chatting at 2;30, 3:30 then up at 4:30. I kept him till 6:20 then Michael grabbed him and I slept in till 10:30. No apology from the neighbour for waking me up and then the lady above us just knocked and it wasn't her either!

MissMoo22 · 22/11/2015 14:21

Cookie, that is so rude of your neighbour! He obviously knows you have a little one in bed yet didn't give a hoot! I would be having words (or at least evil eyes) with him. My neighbours are elderly and they party harder than teenagers. We've had to mention the noise on a few occasions too.

No bath thermometer, no regular thermometer and no bath seat here either.

lilone1234 · 23/11/2015 09:09

I would have gone apeshit if I were you cookie!

We have a thermometer. Mainly as DH comes from a medical family and is semi-medical himself, so he likes to be fully informed! We just use a non-slip mat in the bath, and we do have a bath thermometer. I got it whilst pregnant and over preparing, but now it is her favourite bath toy, so it always goes on the bath with her. She kisses it night night before getting out of the bath! Hmm

DD has pneumonia. Luckily only mild, but we ended up in A&E this weekend. I absolutely marvel at antibiotics and dread to think what would have happened if we didn't have them. It's a really difficult week for me to be taking time off work, so I'm feeling stressed and guilty about the conflict between being a mother and having a career. I worry I don't manage to do either well, but can't give up either. Not sure I'm making any sense, but it's playing on my mind at the moment.

You may all remember that DD has only just started to get her teeth through? Well, to continue being the teeth weirdo child, they are coming through in the most bizarre order! I thought it was relatively standard, but after the bottom front two, she now got the top backward teeth, either canines or molars, not sure, but they are through on both sides. No sign of top front teeth at all!!! Confused

lilone1234 · 24/11/2015 11:51

Oh no, poor DD Team, hopefully she feels better soon! Sorry you're feeling torn about things too.

Nazly · 25/11/2015 00:35

Team, sorry to hear about dd being unwell, hope she recovers soon for you - and I totally get your point about conflict between work and being a mum ... But Some time ago I thought about this a bit and decided while conflicts always going to be there annoyingly and wont let us alone, I will try my best to block them all in any occasion that my baby needs me as he is obviously the priority as he's got only one mum and he didn't choose to come to our world himself ... Sigh

Topsyloulou · 25/11/2015 21:15

Team hope DD is on the mend & back to herself soon. Her teeth certainly seem to be coming in a strange order.

I know exactly what you mean about being torn between work & parenting. This week is the first time I've felt guilty dropping DS off at the childminder. My work are making a big thing of flexible working at the moment but it really doesn't help when DP is away all week so I have to work my set hours & not a minute more so I can do the drop off & pick up & not leave DS for any longer than necessary. Work have helpfully put a meeting in at 4.30 tomorrow which is when I finish but I really need to attend it. If I do attend it I'll hit all the traffic when I leave so DS will be with childminder until 6 rather than 5.15. Meeting is with my director & is a meeting I asked for so really need to attend & I'm not sure dialling in from the car is going to cut it. How long is this guilt going to last?!?!

Nazly · 26/11/2015 20:53

Topsy, Forever? That's what I think anyhow :(
Just dropped by to say BRAUN ear thermometer is half price on amazon if anybody wants one

CumbrianExile · 27/11/2015 21:27

Yep, I second the forever! A was leaning towards the nursery workers this week at drop off. I think I found it more upsetting than the crying we had a few weeks earlier, even though I know it means he enjoys it and he likes his key worker. So many mixed feelings!

We finally have a walker. He has been trying for a good few weeks but only managing a few steps, but last weekend he just up and went right across the living room! I don't know who was more excited between A, myself or DH! Going to get him measured for shoes on Sunday.

CumbrianExile · 27/11/2015 21:28

Forgot to add Team hope you DD is feeling better now.

cookielove · 28/11/2015 19:49

So we had the worst day we have had in ages, E was sick in the car, all over himself and the car seat, this is the first time we had to take the cover off. It says handwash only but it is in the machine going on for a wool wash tomorrow!! Then when I was cleaning the car out I dropped my phone and its smashed, so bugger no phone till I get it fixed. Then when I was at my Mum and dads picking up the spare car seat, and I noticed my car had been vandalised and the headlight has been smashed! So that's just great (NOT) Angry

TeamEponine · 28/11/2015 20:52

Oh cookie, that sounds monumentally shit! Have some wine and chocolate and start afresh tomorrow Grin

DD is doing far better, thanks. Not been a fun week, but fingers crossed we are on the other side of it now.

We have a full on walker now. She's still suffering a little from her enthusiasm being greater than her ability, but she laughs at falling over, so it's all good!

CumbrianExile · 28/11/2015 22:23

Ouch Cookie not a good day at all. Hope tomorrow improves.

Team that sounds exactly like A with the walking. He has a few more bruises gained this week from his attempts Smile

lilone1234 · 28/11/2015 23:27

Cookie, what an awful day! Hope you had a large drink (or six!) this eve and that tomorrow is better!

Ahh we are still not walking here! We must be the last?! She's finally wanting to walk holding on to my fingers though and that's only been the last week or so, she refused to do it before but has been standing unaided for ages?!

OP posts:
LillyBugg · 29/11/2015 13:12

lil ds is barely standing unaided here so walking is ages away. You're definitely not the last!

Cookie what a day!

cookielove · 29/11/2015 15:50

I think they are great things about having none walkers, mainly that they don't tantrum about wanting to be put down lol Grin

Touch wood E hasn't been sick since but he hasn't eaten much either :( he was up at 3:30 which is unusual. And he has woken up with a sticky eye so it will be another trip to the docs tomorrow!

lilone1234 · 30/11/2015 13:24

Haha we still get those tantrums cookie! It's so difficult when it comes to playing outside. Our new children's centre isn't very good and the inside space is very small so most of the stuff to do is outside but crawling outside just isn't on really!

OP posts:
FATEdestiny · 30/11/2015 21:31

Our GPs don't do anything for sticky eye cookie, so I don't bother going for that anymore. I did ask once and it was because the chances of getting medicated eye drops into a baby's eye are pretty slim for it to be effective, so might as well just bathe in cool boiled water and wait for it to clear naturally.

We took DD to see Santa at the weekend. Some lovely memory photos.

Thinking of putting the Christmas decorations up this week. Got to rearrange the position of the tree this year, because of little hands pulling it over if she can get at it.

lilone1234 · 30/11/2015 22:56

How did she get on with Santa fate? I fear DD will wail as she doesn't like beards!

After my posts about her not walking she took her first couple of unaided steps today!

cookielove · 01/12/2015 08:56

We decided against going to the dr's tomorrow as it didn't seem that weepy. My mum has him on Mondays and she took him to the chemist and they said no need. Fx nursery will be fine lol!

TeamEponine · 01/12/2015 16:39

Cookie - glad his eye seems better.

I seem to remember a few of you have done flights with your little ones. We are doing our first flight in a couple of weeks. Any hints and tips to survive? Also, can anyone recommend headphones for a tiny headed petite 14 month old? Four hours of RaRa could drive the nicest passenger to distraction!!!

KitKat1985 · 01/12/2015 16:53

Wow, that was a rough day Cookie. Hope your car is getting sorted now.

Team I suggest as many toys as you can fit into hand luggage! The problem you may have (and we had) is that I think generally babies don't get a hand luggage allowance, which is a shame given that you need to carry a lot of stuff for them! I suggest taking the biggest hand luggage bag each for you and DH that you can find, and just packing the bare essentials for yourself and partner (passport, money etc) and then having a whole bag free for nappies, baby wipes, spare clothes, food, toys, etc. Do a nappy change before boarding if you can and get a super absorbent nappy to try and avoid having to do a nappy change mid-flight unless you have to because there is next to no room for nappy changing in plane toilets.

Practical question here ladies: Me and DH are thinking of putting the Christmas tree up this weekend, but how on earth do we stop DD from just pulling it over? How do you ladies manage? I don't want to be fighting DD away from the tree for the next 3-4 weeks. Xmas Hmm

KitKat1985 · 01/12/2015 16:58

Oh and congrats to the newly walking babies! x
