First birthdays are starting to arrive and our babies are becoming toddlers! What will the next year have in store?

Congrats on the steps Miss! We are still just standing unaided here really but she's balancing for a long time so think she could take some steps if she could be bothered, she prefers to jump!

I bought cupboard locks from Amazon Nazly but have never used them. Instead I just put a baby gate on the kitchen doorway to eliminate the problem completely!

Also, I am drowning in packing! Send help! And cake!

Lil - Cake CakeCake then Brew and maybe a little Wine

We also decided to just put a gate on the kitchen. Far easier!

DD is now standing for a few seconds on her own. She takes one step on her own, but the second one usually results in a dramatic collapse! She will get there. Really chatting away now though.

I've given DD food poisoning. Feel beyond awful and guilty about it. Spent most of yesterday catching vomit!

Acorncat · 05/11/2015 18:06

I have a cupboard lock on the one under the sink so he can't pull the washing powder out. He just empties the rest of them on an hourly basis. I have the lock that goes round the handles and locks them together.

DS has been doing a couple of steps for the last fortnight but today and decided that actually he'll just walk now so he's properly off. Must get him some shoes next week.

cookielove · 05/11/2015 21:00

We have gate across the kitchen too :)

E loves sneaking in when we leave it open and often tries to close the gate behind him, he use to bang it loudly but he soon realised this drew attention to him so now he closes it quietly Grin he also panic's when he sees us coming and tries to lock the gate it is very cute.

E is doing great wih followings directions, which is handy as now he will put things in the bin for me E.t.c

FATEdestiny · 05/11/2015 21:28

We have a gate at the kitchen but I only close it when I am not in the kitchen and either the oven is on or the back door (off the kitchen) is open. The rest of the time DD is free to come in the kitchen. She's usually in there playing when I am cooking.

Everything poisonous is in high cupboards (medicines, cleaning stuff etc). I then have childproof catches on all the other cupboards, they are getting a bit loose now though, after several years. But nothing on drawers or appliances, for no other reason than I've never got around to it.

Topsyloulou · 05/11/2015 21:29

I haven't posted for absolutely ages but I've been trying to keep up to date with everyone. I'm working full time plus having to do some at home too and DPs on a new project at work which means he's working away all week every week for a year! Plus we've just got two kittens, I know how to keep busy!

We've got a stairgate on the door between the lounge & kitchen, we've emptied the cupboard under the sink & put the toilet rolls in there instead and we have locks on all the drawers and cupboards. DS tries them everything day just in case we've taken the locks off overnight! We've got these ones

http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B008BRJB4K/ref=mpssa111?qid=1446758695&sr=8-1&pi=SX200_QL40&keywords=babydan+on+off+cupboard+drawer+locks+pack+of+8&dpPl=1&dpID=31wcsm7JQGL&ref=plSrch

Which are great as you can turn them on & off. When DS had a sleepover with DB we turned them off but we are so used to them now we kept going to unlock them anyway! You can also open the door & lock one handed which is very helpful when you're unloading the dishwasher etc.

DS is up to 5 steps unaided and loves walking holding your hands so don't think it will be too much longer until he's off. He's very talkative but the only real word we get is cat.

MissMoo22 · 06/11/2015 12:13

Ohh yes, Cat is a favourite word here in our house at the minute. Everything is a cat or a dogdog. There's an ad on TV for the new kids movie with dinosaurs and every time she sees it she does a 'rarrrr' noise and says dogdog. Other words we have are mama (aimed at me now), Jamie, da, dada (for granda), night, bobo, juice, toast, ball, toys, shoes, socks (more like cocks but we're getting the odd socks sounds too).

I mentioned earlier about the nipping stage M was at. It seems to have settled down now and I think it's a combo of her back teeth being more or less through and my firmness by always telling her NO and putting her on the floor then when she comes for a hug because she's crying, I'll make a big deal of how nice hugs are and she seems to have realised hugs are nice, nipping is bad. Well it worked for now anyway.

Nazly · 07/11/2015 08:21

Thanks ladies ; we have an open kitchen so to do a gate it needs to be at least 2 meters long ! I also doubt a gate would keep him out. Topsy welcome back ; thanks for the link; it looks good.
I guess our first action should be to put medicine and washing stuff up perhaps

Any baby changes their taste for food quite regularly ? Mine changes his taste about daily stuff frequently, one day he is in love with yogurt the other day he can't tolerate it same with so many other stuff

lilone1234 · 09/11/2015 08:07

Nazly - yes pretty much same here, think it's quite common. Because she can be quite fussy although she seems to be coming out of the other side of that phase now (touch wood), I would end up giving her lots of the same thing because it's all she would eat but then think she gets bored of it!

We are moved in to our new house! Moving day was peer stressful but went ok. New house is so much bigger. There's lots of changes we want to make as it needs a refresh (some parts of the house 400 years old!) but it's lovely. Used to being contained in a flat though. Now I have an open kitchen too and can't keep up with DD!

polkadotdelight · 09/11/2015 19:43

Yep we have daily tastes changing and its really frustrating! The clinginess is getting a bit much for me at the moment and he has an epic short temper when Im around. Nappy changes (if I am doing it) are met with crying and escaping but if my mum tells him its time for a nappy change he toddles off to the changing mat for her!

Nazly · 10/11/2015 22:44

Yeyyy Lil WineWineWine, how exciting , congrats and hope you enjoy your new house and have lots of lovely memories there. How does your dd feel about sudden change of everything ? Is she now used to it and settled ?
I would really love to be able to move to a house from our flat too. It is not very easy for us, but we talked with our bank and found it is feasible after all, we have to just work hard and find a reasonably good house in great London within our budget Confused
Weren't you in London too lil? Did you have to move further out or not for having bigger area ? Just cant decide at this point

Polka that made me laugh. Sorry , I know it is frustrating but the way you wrote it sounded funny.

We ended up in doctors today because last night ds was breathing so noisily and heavily and with a fast pace that I totally panicked ; I had a full day training course today so with all this I got there around mid day - was worried about the exam at the end of the training, but it was all fine in the end... Oh the joy of parenting and working together ...

lilone1234 · 11/11/2015 12:39

That sounds difficult Nazly. Glad your training still went well. Hope DS is ok?

Yes we moved just to the outside of London but to the south of London whereas we used to live in East London. DD is settling well, and sleeping which is most important! She's being a bit whingey though, probably feeding off me as I try to make sense of how to do things best and where and how to leave her when I make food etc. and do I take her upstairs every time to be changed and so on! Also not had a chance to get out and about really. Even going for a walk is a nightmare as my dog is very anxious and will get upset (and ruin my carpet) if left and freak out and try and run back if taken.

OP posts:
Nazly · 13/11/2015 00:56

Oh Lil, you have moved near us ! I wonder how close you are to us :) maybe we can meet up.

Everybody else: where are you ladies, there is hardly any posts these days... All busy with life and work and house work and etc?

TeamEponine · 13/11/2015 08:20

Hi all!

Yup, just crazy busy at the moment! It's a really busy time of year at work, so everything is full on.

We now have a little one with two teeth finally, who can take a few tentative steps and chatters constantly! She's also been quite mummified recently, will only feed herself and is getting slightly fussier.

One issue we are having is that she hates having shoes or wellies put on, but she's desperate to walk around outside. Any ideas?!

Oh, and excitingly we now have a passport for DD so we are thinking of booking a week of winter sun! Grin

FATEdestiny · 13/11/2015 11:36

When I way h those TV programs about buying houses, I am always completely gobsmacked at the house prices in London. What would buy a 4 bed house with large garden in a nice area here would by something like a flat in London!

I have to say I don't understand what ties people to live in the capital rather than move elsewhere in the country. But then that is probably just because I am not a Londoner so don't 'get it'

DD being brilliant at the moment. Very smiley, interactive, curious and chatty. 12-24 months has always been my most favourite age.

FATEdestiny · 13/11/2015 11:40

"Watch", not "way h" - damn autocorrect!

Team - not really solving the shoe refusal thing, but I only ever buy buckle fastening shoes for the first year if wearing shoes. My children could undo/remove any other forms of shoe fastening. So at least once a buckle-up shoe is on, it stays on.

CumbrianExile · 13/11/2015 19:25

I am here too! I keep up reading, but quite often don't get around to posting.

Happy new home Lil Hope you settle in soon.

A has just got over another virus, which he kindly passed on to me, so we had a fun week last week. This week he is like a new child though, he is so curious and wants to climb everywhere. It can be hard work keeping up with him, but it is soo much fun Grin

cookielove · 14/11/2015 08:21

Hello all :)

I am always here, but don't always post!

A little update on E, he has been walking since end of August although he took his fist steps mid July when he was 11 months (9 and 1/2 corrected) so now he is running, spinning on the spot, going up and down steps holding hands and crawling up and down by himself :)

He has some words, mama (but doesn't say this to me) daddy, hiya, hello, ta, thank you.

His eating is great at the moment, so hungry so I think he is having a growth spurt still not eating much home cooked but I don't mind.

I plan to get him weighed on Tuesday, he last weighed in at 22lb 11oz. He has been stuck at 22lb for ages lol.

He fell over yesterday and I thought we would have to go to a&e but the bleeding stopped (cut inside of lip) oh it looks so sore. He had nurofen and ate ok so that's good.

Cumbrian sorry to hear you all have had a virus, fx that's it for the year :)

team E use to be a pickle to put shoes on curl his feet and his toes. He has the cruiser style at the moment and I hold the shoe on his foot and squeeze the soles in and this helped him flatten out his foot. Could you try the leather baby shoes with thick socks until she is more willing to have shoes on?

nazly we are in Hertfordshire and more than happy to come into London for a meet up :)

TeamEponine · 14/11/2015 09:58

Thanks for the shoe advice, but the problem is slightly different. She goes into hysterical meltdown when you put anything other than socks on her feet. This is both at home and nursery. I thought I could just try to get her used to walking in them, but she won't even stand up. It's so frustrating as she's desperate to walk when out and about, but won't have shoes on Sad

cookielove · 14/11/2015 10:34

how about these and then keep persevering with shoes in the mean time! Has she had her feet measured? What shoes do you have for her?

TeamEponine · 14/11/2015 14:51

Sorry cookie, that link isn't working. Could you try again please?

I've tried with pram shoes, wellies and beach/water shoes. Anything on her feet is hated.

She has really awkward feet, tiny in length but wide and a high instep, so I've not managed to get proper shoes that fit her still. It's all a bit of a nightmare really Sad

CumbrianExile · 14/11/2015 15:34

Thanks Cookie, since A started nursery I think he has caught every bug going around. Hopefully we won't get anymore until at least next year!

No advice on the shoes I'm afraid, A hasn't got any yet (well he had pram shoes that never stayed on so I stopped bothering. He is cruising but has shown no sign really of walking unaided until the past few days. I think I am going to have to get him some soon, especially for playing outside at nursery.

cookielove · 14/11/2015 21:02

this will work team

cookielove · 14/11/2015 21:02

Urgh it doesn't!!
