Oh lord it really is the terrible twos on this bus isn't it Sad I had a very long day with a snotty bpear who only napped 30 minutes and was just "me me me" all day long. Stupidly I didn't get more vapour plugin thingies and now he's struggling to go to bed Angry I'll be shopping at BOOTS tomorrow!

I got my scan appointment today! Very happy about that! I also had hormone blood tests today so I should have a diagnosis by the end of November. DH lost 2.5 lbs this last week and I lost another 1.5 lbs. GO US!! Grin I just need to loose another 2.5 lbs to reach my end goal. It really means I have to start exercising but I'm just not finding the time or energy (more the energy) at the moment Confused On a positive note it looks like I did ovulate this month and all my hard work has hopefully contributed to that. We get DH's second set of results back on Monday.

LOL frus those boys know how to start with the melodrama early! Boy temper-tantrums that never quite go away.... Hmm

Sorry to hear about the grumpy kiddo you've had to deal with today Pear. Hope you both get a full night's rest despite the rough bedtime! The vapor thingys are amazing, I completely agree! Do you have any Olbas Oil laying around? A little of that on a tissue near his pillow might help too. Poor little mite. So not looking forward to the many months ahead of snotty noses, coughs, and pukes. Blarg.

Also great news about the upcoming tests! Onward and upward to more answers! (Great job on the weight loss, are you both feeling better in general?)

Lol! They always do something they shouldn't with random things they find. If you left toy stuffing out for him to play with then he'd not show any interest - it's only fun when you don't know they have it! Wink

I'm not coping well right now. I think it's a combination of PMT, Calf's referral, Calf's new difficult phase, going away with friends to an unfamiliar place without DH & no way of escaping if it gets too much for me. It's been a difficult week & I'm dreading being in "quick, there's people around, act 'normal'" mode all weekend. It's going to be really draining. DH has assured me as he does on a regular basis that he's going to be home on time tonight to help me get organised... I'll believe it when I see it! Hmm Right now I just want to wrap myself in a thick blanket & hide from everyone. I've been going through a really good phase recently, I always knew I'd have to have a bad phase too - should've known better than to sign up for this w/e in the first place!

bring! I literally could not live without the vapour plugs :-) I think everyone should be given one at the labour ward instead of all the garbage samples you get from the crazy NCT sales lady. I did venture out this morning and get a new box. Although it was another massive fight to get him to sleep this afternoon he has finally gone down. I'm not looking forward to all the winter bugs too Sad

Agnu - oh so sorry that you're in a bad patch Thanks I had lots of tantrums this morning so I am now hiding under the duvet - one particular one because he wanted to look at the automatic doors instead of paying for the vapour plugs and some lovely grandad just stood and watched him with added commentary "oh he's getting up now"" Yes thank you...I didn't see my toddler get up off the floor lol Oh don't you love old people Smile Anyway, fx your DH keeps his word tonight Wink

peardrop2 · 12/11/2015 15:29

Frus - I think your DS is quite intelligent to be doing that already. I only started stuffing peas up my nose when I was 3/4 Wink

Forgot to say...bring we don't feel any benefits yet from the weight loss. I'm seriously struggling not having dessert in the evenings and DH is moaning that he is hungry all the time lol I keep telling myself that as soon as I get a bfp I can have a bar of chocolate. Only 1 though as I'll have gestational diabetes. From doing a lot of reading I have decided that I have Insulin Resistance PCOS. I really do think I should be a doctor Smile I've given up desserts and next month I'll start taking magnesium (apparently will help me), oh and I'm already going to bed earlier. That I must say is helping me a lot in the mornings! Apparently I can also eat whole fruits but my dentist would growl at this idea because of the enamel effects it has on my teeth. Did buy a cantaloupe melon today!! That I can have even though I don't really like it unless it's wrapped up in Parma Ham Grin

Haha frus So cute! (the saying, not the thingy up the nose).

Oh jeeze sorry to hear about the tantrums. I hate dealing with them in public. People think they're being so helpful and I feel like biting their heads off because it's like...."dude, I'm working on patience with this little thing on the floor, ZIP IT you old fart"

Pear a little tip to share. Protein, protein, protein. Eggs, nut butters, meat, beans, protein powder in smoothies, repeat. Also full-fat things! (I know it sounds counter-productive, but it keeps you fuller for longer). Whole milk yogurts (greek yogurt tastes awesome and is full of protein ), avocados, butter, full-fat milk. Switching out things like "white" foods (pasta, white bread, white rice, cous-cous) with whole-grains like quinoa, whole grain bread, brown rice, oatmeal. Also starting to really take a look at labels. Stay away from things that say "low fat" as they tend to be low in fat, but high in salts and sugars to make up for the taste. Avoid packaged "snack" items and switch them out for a piece of fruit with some cheese or PB or yogurt or veggies with bean spreads (hummus, white bean dip, black bean dip, etc). (also believe it or not carrots and PB are surprisingly yummy!). Parma ham and cantaloupe is yummy! (plus it has protein). It's also amazing at how much sugar is in things like juice and sodas. Switching it out for water with lemon or lime, or infusing berries into the water for taste works if you have a sweet craving. These are all things that I talked with loads and loads of pregnant mothers when I was a student midwife. It takes a lot of work to eat healthy. A. Lot. Of. Work! Something that helps too is to remember that you don't have to deprive yourself. You don't have to make an entire diet change. It's about making small changes and adding in things that make it easier to work on eating more healthily. It's already awesome that you do a lot of cooking at home! You are on the right track! Even though these are things that I try to do in myself and can happily tout them to other people, it's hard and I slip sometimes and find myself needing to go back to the basics again and work on it.

AGnu · 12/11/2015 20:26

I've lost nearly a stone since August just by cutting out snacks, watching portion sizes & not indulging in desserts. I don't really fancy sugary things anymore, very unusual for me! I'm still no model for healthy eating - tonight I had fish fingers, hash browns & baked beans for dinner & I'm taking several large bags of crisps & nuts with me for the w/e because I'm really weird about certain foods but I get really miserable when I'm hungry. I had to pack lots of snacks though in case my roommates notice I have them & then I can't not share but I'll still need enough to last the whole w/e! I hate that I obsess about all these things - it's exhausting being me! Blush

Ha ha "man up" love it Smile

Bpear is currently obsessed with fireworks and asks to see them on YouTube about 4/5 times a day since bonfire night. The word fireworks is starting to sound like fu** Blush I just mentioned to DH this morning that fireworks have replaced him asking us to see noisy planes everyday (since taking him to the air show) and DH confessed that he was obsessed with things when he was younger and then moved onto the next thing...joy! I was definitely not like this. I was always committed to tiny tears, popples, Care Bears and my little ponies Smile I should take a photo of bpears cot for the photo book that I will one day make, it's filled with the most random objects that change on a weekly basis! Apart from a car key....there's always a car key in the cot!

Bring, I loved looking at your healthy checklist. You're so right about cutting out things that say "low sugar" and replacing with whole fat. I've done the switch to wholemeal foods and water. I've been eating PB on rice cakes but I will definitely try PB with carrots today! I'm taking a trip to the health shop anyway today so I'll stick nut butter, sunflower seeds, Greek yoghurt and Parma Ham on the list!

Bpear has his flu spray thing today. Hope it still works with his cold!

peardrop2 · 13/11/2015 08:33

Forgot to say...

Agnu - that is amazing that you've lost a stone in that time! Good luck with your trip. I hope it is a success for you!

Loraline · 13/11/2015 12:50

Great job all round on losing weight, toning arms and good living ladies.

Tantrums are less fun. DS isn't usually too bad but if tired or hungry he can get into a full blown rage. It's not every day though. Usually Saturday mornings.

Agnu hope you're feeling a bit better and things aren't getting on top of you too much.

peardrop2 · 13/11/2015 13:47

OmG Greek yoghurt is AMAZING!! Surely something healthy can't be this good? Should I have got the light version. Almond butter is also wOw!

bringonthetrumpets · 13/11/2015 15:21

No way, pear full-fat greek yoghurt. The fat + protein combo is a great way keep you fuller for longer. If you can find it in the UK, skyr is amazeballs. We tried it when we were in Iceland and it was like our main staple for the couple of days we were there. It's like a smoother version of greek yoghurt. I think it might even be a type of cheese? I dunno, but it was so yummy! Almond butter is delicious (but if you feel like splashing out on the price, cashew butter is like candy in a jar).

Agnu that's fantastic! It's crazy how the cravings go away once you cut out the sugar. I've noticed too that if I over-indulge I actually feel like I have a food hangover in the morning. I don't really drink anymore (just because of DH more than anything else, so I promise I'm not being smug or judging anyone who drinks {I miss it sometimes}).... so I know it's foods that are making me feel like crap the next morning. It's crazy to start being able to notice those little things. Ha, it sounds like you get HANGRY agnu! Nice work on the snacks. I'm the same way! Obsessed with what the next meal is going to be and where we'll be able to find food if we're going somewhere. I'd like to say that it's so that we don't have the kids melting down, but really, I think it's more so that I don't melt down!

M is nappy-free today. So far she's earned one M&M for getting herself to the bathroom. We'll see how long this lasts....Hmm

....and after all that working out, I got a strained muscle yesterday. Right in the bloody hip-flexor area too, OUCH. Off to the chiropractor to see if she can work her magic hands and make it right again.

It went surprisingly well! She dropped what she was doing and ran to the bathroom while saying "POTTY!". She got an M&M :)

We had to nappy-up to go the appointment though and she hasn't seemed very interested in trying again despite my asking. Baby steps, right?

Agnu how was the girl's weekend?

AGnu · 15/11/2015 22:17

It was so much fun! I was relaxed & comfortable being around people all day yesterday. Less so on Friday evening when we arrived & I'd had the stress of packing/organising/waiting/sitting in the car etc. but once I'd slept off the stress headache my friends were commenting on how nice it was that I was just being "me". Smile I got a bit over-excited towards the end of the evening & could feel myself going manic so I literally sat on my hands to try & contain myself. Didn't entirely work & I may have done the jive randomly in front of a room full of strangers... Blush Thankfully most people then went to bed & my closest friend & I stayed up for a few hours until we realised it was 1.30am & everyone else was asleep. I still hadn't completely calmed down & we were hushing each other through giggles while trying not to wake anyone up! Complete social-hangover today though - I barely ate & took myself off for a lie down at one point, just about held it together in the car on the way back, did the obligatory greetings & read a book to the boys & then fell asleep on the sofa! Just about recovered now though.

Good start on the potty training bring! Runt is nowhere near ready yet. I'm quite pleased about that though. I suspect he's going to be a very different experience to Calf who will hold it in for hours to avoid using any toilet out of the house for fear of someone using hand dryers! Hmm

Agnu sounds like you had a fantastic time! It's nice for us introverts to occasionally head outside of that comfort zone and remember that it's pretty nice having people who like you and want to be around you (even if its for a limited time). I totally am with you on needing to recover after stuff like that.

Very interesting about the hand-dryers. Is it just the sound? You'll have to tell me about on how this radar key works! Very intrigued.

Took DH to boxing class today. I think I got him hooked Grin. He couldn't stop talking about it on the way back to work!

You ever have the feeling that you've got a ton of work to do, yet you can't really figure out what has to be done? I'm stuck in a rut at the moment and while I'm surrounded by files and such, I don't even know what needs to be done. It's so odd....Definitely had to be productive!

Hahah frus! That sounds hilarious!

Sorry to hear about the DH. That sounds frustrating and hard to deal with at the very least. Is he just not getting enough attention while you're busy busy with the kids and life?

Hey pear how's it going? It's been a couple of days since we've heard from you!

So... exciting post of the day. I totally put my foot in my mouth regarding something from work. A person I knew who drove me absolutely batty while I was attending her as a student midwife wrote an email to my boss wanting to volunteer for her. The things she listed that she wanted to do as a volunteer is my entire job description! I got a little bristly and besides the fact that this individual is extremely hard to be around because of the constant intensity (I mean, she's a person that just drains energy out of you) I wrote an email to my boss that just gently let her know that this gal is intense and can be hard to work with at times... yep. My boss is friends with her. So... Blush I'd like to go hide under a rock now. I didn't say anything really mean about her or catty, just a comment that she was intense and working with her was hard. I don't think that's too mean is it? I wrote an apology email back right away and just said that it wouldn't happen again. Now the worst of the worst thoughts are running through my brain and now I'm daydreaming that she'll just give my job away to this person because of what I said. So it's always fun over here! Like you said, it's always like Coronation Street in my life.

peardrop2 · 18/11/2015 23:11

Bring - thanks for thinking of me. AF has arrived so I'm mentally struggling over here...again Sad Ahhh I always think that honesty is the best policy! Even though your boss is friends with this person, I bet deep down that your boss knows the truth about this person. I'm sure she will take your view into account in a professional manner without taking any drastic measures like you're thinking in your head! Has she replied yet? Hope so. I know how you're feeling though because I think it's natural to panic Wink
