Glad your first day went well dulce! You'll go from strength to strength now. How is the healing going?

I feel bad now, I've kept E in a vest the whole summer! She is a cold baby though - I had to put her in long leggings and socks yesterday because she was cold, it was 25 degrees! Just like her mum Grin I carry around hot water bottles for about 10 months of the year.

How's it all going la? Are you getting into the swing of things? That first 2 weeks is completely manic, but it does get better.

pis that car was a disgrace! Glad you took it back.

Well done zyla! That's really good going.

wil wisdom teeth = painful. Get to a dentist while it's still free. I went a few weeks ago and found out that two of my big fillings are failing so will need to take them out and replace them with silver fillings. Def getting all work done while it's free!

Glad you had a nice time ness. You inspired me and I've asked dh to look after E for a day next month so that I can take my mum to a spa. Can't wait!

E giggled for the first time the day before last - it was the most amazing sound! I spent all day yesterday trying to make her giggle again with no success, dh waltzes in and give her a 5min cuddle and get loads of cute giggles, humph Hmm I feel giggle cheated.

dulcet, I've just started thinking about taking E swimming. I've got her a little wetsuit and I've found a pool that has a separate children's pool. They do "parent and toddler" sessions during the week. Do you have anything like that near you? I think the water has to be a certain temperature...is it 37 degrees? I'll have to look it up. There is Water Babies too, but they don't operate round here I don't think.

Fleurchamp · 04/08/2015 08:58

We were told at nct that one of our biggest difficulties will be deciding if baby is too hot or cold Confused I didn't believe her at first!

We have a new problem causing lack of sleep in the champ household, sorry it's long:

We live in a terraced house. Our bedroom adjoins our neighbours' spare room and S's nursery adjoins their bedroom.

During the night I take S from our room into his nursery to change and feed him; 1. Because that's where the changing station and my nursing chair are and 2. So that I can turn on the night light without disturbing DH.

S screams blue murder when having his nappy changed. I do it as quickly as possible and then feed him. So he probably cries for 10 mins Max two or three times a night.

On Saturday my DH saw one of our neighbours (the husband) he joked with him about sleepless nights. DH apologised about the noise but the neighbour just laughed it off.

Our neighbours do not have children but they have a dog. Which barks. Constantly.

On Sunday I saw the wife, I had S with me in the pram. She walked straight past me and didn't even say hello ( we usually exchange pleasantries).

Sunday night/ Monday morning I realised the dog's barking was coming from the bedroom next to ours and not downstairs as usual (the houses are on 3 floors so we usually can't hear the dog at night). The same last night.

I think they are keeping their dog in the bedroom adjoining ours to annoy us! The damn thing literally barks all night.

DH thinks I am mad paranoid and that only crazy people would do that.

I, in my sleep deprived state, want to ask them what the hell they think they are doing Angry.

My precious little sleep Sad

minimooo · 04/08/2015 09:28

Just checked and the pool should be 32 degrees.
And they do do water babies near us! Oooo!

RPopz · 04/08/2015 09:30

Shock Fleur That is pretty pathetic. He's a baby!! Not as if you're having wild parties every night. Angry Angry Angry for you. You can call environmental health about the dog noise, but hopefully they'll pull their heads out of their asses before it comes to that....

KatoPotato · 04/08/2015 09:34

They sound like knobs. I stopped doing nappy change (unless poo) at feeding time at about 5 weeks because the screams were making ds1 stir. And I'm lazy

But if it's not disturbing dh then can they really hear it?

WilHarlot · 04/08/2015 10:09

Yeah I agree don't do nappy change unless it's pooey - or really full. Maybe once a night. You don't need the extra work.

How brave are you? I think I'd wait to see if it happened a third night and then maybe go round to see them and ask them if they've changed it because the baby is keeping them awake and they should have said if there was a problem. Although in reality I'd send MrWil because I'm a wuss. Dog isn't ill or anything?

Swimming is great and water babies is great although overpriced. If you have the cash it is a nice thing to do. I've taken Micro into a normal temp pool but they do last longer in warmer ones.

RPopz · 04/08/2015 10:25

Same here. Fresh nappy on for bed and it stays on until morning. Unless it's pooey, but that is rare nowadays. You can always slather them up with barrier cream if you're worried about sore bums. But the neighbours are still being douches... Hmm

I've heard good things about water babies but it is pricey! I took miniP to a normal temp pool in one of those warm in water swim wraps. He didn't seem to get cold at all. He was 4m though. Not been since and the bloody swimming kit cost a fortune! Angry

Dulcet Not sure baby massage helped miniP as such... Though the digestive massage is fun when it elicits enormo-turds immediately after! Grin But it was something nice to do and see other new Mums and babies Smile

minimooo · 04/08/2015 10:34

Hmm, might stick to the toddler swim group in that case. Not keen on anything too pricey!

Sounds like they're being totally unreasonable fleur. How ridiculous of them. I second MrFleur going to have a word I completely wimp out of those situations!

PixieChops · 04/08/2015 10:45

I'll admit I started watching 24 hours, realised it was about peados and then wanted to make sure that they got convicted with a nice long sentence. Which they didn't which made me even more mad! Well they were convicted and found guilty but the actual sentences where just shit.

Anyway moving on!
I very nearly throttled DP last night, it was his turn to have R, so we all went to bed, R was in his "next 2 me" cot. DP then lay on his back and said, "I'm so tired, prepare yourself for snoring" if he's not on his back he doesn't snore- anyway he starts snoring so I ask nicely if he'll go o his side, he mumbles something back, goes on his side for a couple of minutes, rolls back on his back and snores loudly again! Along with this he also leaves a bright light on in the room so he can see what he's doing when R wakes up for a feed etc. there's no need for it to be on all the time, our bedroom is lit up like fucking Blackpool illuminations! By this point I've had enough so go and get in the bed in P's room. She's fast asleep but she is full of a cold so is coughing a lot- by the way I've had ear plugs in the whole time. By 4am I've had enough and go back to original bed only for DP to start snoring again!! So at 4:30 I make my way downstairs and sleep on the sofa, then get rudely awakened at 8:50 by DP poking me and telling me to wake up immediately!!
So it's my turn with R tonight- usually I'm quiet and considerate to DP, make as little noise as possible and don't really use lights unless very necessary- nappy change and he's done a poo- but might just not care tonight and let all hell break loose.

PixieChops · 04/08/2015 10:54

That's so pathetic Fleur if they're letting the dog do that because they're annoyed about the baby noise, you can't quiet a baby for gods sake! It sounds like that's the case though especially if the woman blanked you, how annoying!

We never did water babies because of the cost, just took P swimming in a wetsuit at a warm pool a few times. I do wish we would've taken her more often now though as she goes daft if she gets water in her face in the bath and I took her swimming a couple of weeks ago to a baby splash at the local leisure centre and she just went ballistic Hmm

I think R may have conjunctivitis but I'm scared of going to the docs in case it's not and I get labelled as the neurotic mother! We were there 3 times last week, his eyelashes seem wet all the time and I've noticed some yellowy stuff in his eyes and it's sometimes stuck on his eyelashes too. The whites of his eyes aren't pink and his eyelids don't look swollen or anything. I thought your second baby was supposed to be easier! ConfusedConfused

Pisghetti · 04/08/2015 11:49

BabyPis gets sticky eyes quite a bit. We usually wipe over it with cooled, boiled water with a bit of salt dissolved in it which seems to do the trick for a day or two. Her lower eyelashes seem to grow into her eye which is why I think she gets it repeatedly. Not sure what I can do about that though!

Fleur that is such passive aggressive bullshit Hmm go and have a word if you're brave enough (or send DH like I would) as that is just ridiculous. Dog barking would be an environmental health issue if you get no joy with them directly and need to involve the council.

Stupid question time! Can babies use hot tubs? We are off on holiday on Thursday and will be visiting DP's brother and SIL and they have a hot tub which I would most certainly like to use if possible. I'm thinking they're not as hot as a bath are they....?

PixieChops · 04/08/2015 14:24

R's got some yellow gunk thing going on as well though Confused well he's booked in for the docs at 4pm- P needs checking over anyway as she's a complete snot machine at the moment and has got a cough Hmm I give up with these kids lol, they're never bloody well at the movement!

cookielove · 04/08/2015 16:24

Pis I believe it is usually a no for babies going into hot tubs, as they can't regulate their body temperature like we can, also they are usually too hot. If you can control the temp keeping it 37 and below you may be able to put her in and keep her in for longer!

fleur I cannot believe how rude your neighbours are, I would flip my lid!!

For those with kids with gunky eyes, if you are breastfeeding you can use breastmilk, it will help clear it up :)

Water babies is brilliant, well our teacher was but so So so expensive! We only did one term E loved it! It helped me be confidant with him in the water :)

I learned three things about my car seat today, you can push the handle right back so the baby can sit up and be fed in the car seat, the handle should remain upright when in the car so the handle takes the force of impact not the baby, and the straps can be adjusted to different heights! I have the maxi cosi pebble!

Slightly embarrassed I didn't know this already Blush

PixieChops · 04/08/2015 16:51

We've got the Same car seat cookie and I didn't know that! Smile

R does have conjunctivitis- unfortunately he's formula fed so there'll be no tittage squirting in the eye piece (fortunately) for him. Been prescribed drops.. Anyone have any tips on how to give a newborn eye drops? I'm assuming it's like trying to wrestle with an octopus Confused
Seriously though my kid is broken and needs swapping for a new one!

KatoPotato · 04/08/2015 17:01

The sticky eye can often be a blocked tear duct and quite common with babies. Cooled boiled water and cotton wool, swept from inside corner to outside edge. One swipe and throw away.

Maxi cosi surprises. Have you found the sunshade yet?

WilHarlot · 04/08/2015 17:03

Definitely no for the hot tubs. I think because they don't cool down like a bath does.

Loads of people don't know that about the handle on the car seats Cookie. I've had that conversation with several folk (doesn't that make me sound interesting Hmm ).

Hope the kids are better soon Pixie. Think conjunctivitis normally clears up by itself.

So Micro actually eats a decent amount of solids when she's not up all night feeding. Clearly that's the problem.

DulcetMoans · 04/08/2015 17:04

He just keeps screaming in my face! What does he want?!

That sounds useful about the car seat cookie, will have to check mine. What do you do in water babies? I haven't looked into it fully but might be interested. I'm looking at baby sensory. Not sure I can deal with bigger shits than he already does popz!

Healing is ok-ish mini, thank you. Scar is fine, bleeding going down but I feel all bruised inside above the scar and that hurts and drags if I do too much. MW didn't seem too concerned though.

WilHarlot · 04/08/2015 17:05

Oh x-post. I say squirt five times and hope one goes in Grin .

WilHarlot · 04/08/2015 17:12

Do you think he's sore Dulcet?

Hard to explain about water babies. If you're a good swimmer maybe you don't need to do it but I know nothing about swimming. You get them to understand a signal for going underwater so they know to hold their breath. You learn a few different positions for holding them safely on front and back. Eventually they learn to hold on to side of pool and shimmy down to a safe place for getting out. And how to jump in and how to search for the wall when underwater - so if they fell in for example. Depends how long you do lessons for obviously. It's a nice wee bonding time.

Do you have Hartbeeps near you? I think that's better than Baby Sensory.

LaLaLaaaa · 04/08/2015 17:31

Mine also screaming and I don't know why :(

KatoPotato · 04/08/2015 17:35

Babies under 6weeks should pretty much be sleeping or eating. If not hungry get those babies to sleep! If it's a mega scream then it sounds they're over tired and lost it.

My last resort for this stage is strap into car seat, get some loud (must be louder than the scream) white noise and get that seat turned against the wall and rock!

DulcetMoans · 04/08/2015 17:35

Sore how? Not really sure but he's not keen on being anywhere but on me. He was sleeping on my legs and then the door slammed in the wind and woke him up. Damn it! I lay him on my chest and he crawls up to my face and just shouts at me! Then sometimes sucks my nose so I know he wants boob.

I'm a shit swimmer so could be handy, thanks wil!

WilHarlot · 04/08/2015 17:58

Yes to the white noise, give it a bash. Sounds like he just got woken up and is still tired Dulcet. Unfortunately tiny babies are very good at the screaming. Micro is a velcro baby still - only happy when held and doesn't tolerate the buggy. Mini wasn't really like that and I could put her down from the start.

Pisghetti · 04/08/2015 18:06

A friend of mine has two little ones (2.10 and 8 months) who have been doing water babies from an early age. She asked grandparents to pay for lessons in lieu of birthday/Christmas presents (as kids typically have more than enough 'stuff'). Her toddler can now get himself to safety when in water. I'd like to take B - clearly the hot tub is not the place to start though Grin

I found the sunshade after reading the instruction booklet! Maxi Cosi cabriolet here. Only just discovered the 'other' backwards angle for the handle. Did know the handle had to be up when in use though.

I use boob milk for her eyes now and again. Feel a bit sorry for B as my aim is shocking and she ends up with milk up her nose and in her ears before I hit the jackpot.

LaLaLaaaa · 04/08/2015 18:17

Does this get easier? If so when?
