Right, I'll start us a post natal thread that we can gibber on.

We had vomit sunami X2 yesterday. One just before our dinner, which necessitated a quick bath/hair wash (which toots hated til sat her in the water then she was happy -ish). 2nd was about half 11 and all down her dad, took. But since then she slept for four hour stretches and been much more settled.

We formula feeding on demand (anywhere from 30ml to 90mls) but I don't know if we fed too much or didn't wind properly. But she is pooing for Britain so no problems that end.

Oh that's fine Bazza thanks for asking.

To be fair, I've shared things on here that I wouldn't have shared on fb.

Shame though, never mind I'll just keep pestering the wise collective of MN with my questions/nonsense thoughts Grin

Off to baby massage today. Although I can see it far enough! Just want to stay in my cosy jammies and drink tea

I'm sitting on the sofa with a fire going in my night clothes and a hideous granny dressing gown, with absolutely no intention of getting dressed yet. DS isn't keen on letting me have showers.

Sorry about fb. Good job MN is so wise....!

comeagainforbigfudge · 15/10/2015 13:07

No need to apologise bazza it's not like you made the decision.

Oh lucky you with the fire Grin. We had to abandon baby massage about halfway through. DD was far too wriggly nosy that she was getting upset at being made to lie "still"

She's currently sitting in her bouncy chair talking to her toys ha ha ha

Hope your DS let you have a shower eventually Wink

He did! Thanks to excellent parenting on my part (YouTube) ??

Bazza2 · 16/10/2015 01:59

Smiley fail. Smile

zahaziland · 10/11/2015 13:43

Is this thread dead? I hope not.
I went awol following the whole hacking problem - couldn't seem to find the time to change my password (ridiculous, I know).

Anyway, I hope that there are a few people still around, as I would love to hear how everyone is doing.

My LO is doing fine, he's learning new things all the time, and he can now confidently roll over, and holds his head up strongly.

Major issue is that he doesn't sleep very well at night. He did go through a phase of sleeping more or less through the night, but it only lasted about a week, and it now seems to be getting worse!

Bazza, Comeagain, Fuzzycat: anyone still around????

excitedbutsick · 10/11/2015 22:42

I'm still around and also not on the FB group.

We also have lots of new skills like rolling over both ways, sitting unsupported for short periods and attempting to spoon feed himself. It gives me lots of proud feelings every time he tries something.

I'm glad to hear that your DS is doing well Bazza. Sleep can be a bit hit and miss for us too.

DS had a paediatrics review a couple of weeks ago as he has had poor weight gain, but is seeming to follow the 0.4th centile line at the moment.

comeagainforbigfudge · 10/11/2015 22:57

I'm still here too. Mainly lurking on any strictly threads

DD is doing well. Rolling over, starting to roll back to front then onto back again.
And sitting far too well for her own good. I swear she's starting to bum shuffle a wee bit! Followed by a launch forward to grab something!

zah my wee ones sleep is messed up just now as well. She's still rubbish at napping and wakes up numerous times overnight. Not for milk though, oh no, just for a chat whilst searching for her dummy that is promptly thrown away!! Grin

Think we might start weaning this week as DD is interested and meeting all the rest of the criteria. Going to get her weighed first. Out of sheer noseyness!!

Glad

I'm still here too!

comeagain I really want to know what DS weighs too, it's been a while since I checked. Going to try him on banana in a few days.

excited it's so good seeing them learn new things, isn't it? DS is getting good at sitting up and is discovering his feet. He hasn't quite rolled over yet.

zaha how's the sleeping been these last few nights?

comeagainforbigfudge · 16/11/2015 10:37

Morning, it's proper changeable weather here. Sun is out just now so going to try make it to shops before it starts pelting down again Shock

We are on Day 3 of weaning and the gagging is not so bad.

Yesterday was a proper gag and retch Grin think her puree was slightly too thick so thinned today's with a tiny bit of fresh boiled water. And gave her some milk to wash it down. Seemed to work this time. Only a few spoonfuls but it's progress. Going to try parsnip tomorrow.

Anyone else started?

zahaziland · 16/11/2015 16:45

Hi All,

Sleep is still not improving... I wonder if he is too cold; I am sticking to the recommended 19 degrees, but the room feels a bit chillly.
I tried to not pick him up at night, and try to confort him just by placing my hand on his tummy or head, but I confess that I gave in the last few nights and picked him up, just because I was too tired.

It seems like your babies have almost conquered the skill of sitting. Mine is not quite there yet, and he still needs a bit of support, otherwise he topples over. He can roll from tummy to back, but not the other way round. He is only 5 months +2days, so I am not worried.

comeagain, I'd love to hear more about the weaning process. How old is your LO? I gather you are doing spoon-led weaning.

I have made a few batches of purees, that I have frozen in anticipation of weaning. I think we will start soon.

Anyone doing BLW? I am thinking of doing a bit of both - which I know BLW purists will not agree with....

excited when is your next weigh-in for your baby? You might find that his weight picks up now that he is starting on solids.

My DS only gained 250g last month, but paediatrician was not too concerned.

zahaziland · 16/11/2015 16:48

PS: I wonder if I have made all my purees too thick. I haven't been adding any water...

comeagainforbigfudge · 16/11/2015 19:30

zah my dd quite often wakes up in middle of night. Blanket over her seems to help. It's worth worth a try?

Yes I'm doing purees. I joined a couple of fb blw groups to find out about it, in practice as such, but everyone was very, hmmmm, militant about it. And the pictures they were putting up of babies with massive rolls in front of them with captions like "baby eats what we eat" put me off.

So purees it is. But not really the Annabel karmel way either. Just making it up as I go along!! And referring to nhs website as I need to.

I've been adding a little bit of boiled water to my puree once it's defrosted to thin it out further.

(On a side note I feel weaning is baby led. If they don't won't it, they aren't going going to let you given them it. climbs off high horse )

comeagain We started weaning at 20 weeks on baby rice which DS loves. In the last week I have become fed up of him trying to grab food off my plate so I have been feeding him little bits as I eat. Things like cucumber I handed to him and let him gnaw. There are some things like banana which has been mashed first and spoon fed.

comeagainforbigfudge · 17/11/2015 22:28

Ha ha dd launched herself at my OH's cereal bar that he was eating earlier.

Not sure if it was the bar or the shiny wrapper that she was trying to eat Grin

She also managed to get her supply cup in her mouth before swinging it about the place and soaking her daddy with water in the process ha ha ha

zahaziland · 18/11/2015 10:21

Morning,
I'm enjoying hearing your stories about weaning.. I am looking forward to starting soon. I am thinking of doing a mix of purees and BLW (yes, I know that I can't call it BLW if it's mixed..., but anyway). Any suggestions for good finger food? I know avocado slices are often suggested, but what else?

I am also going to be making it up as I go along (just as I do pretty much everything else... Blush )

I have been putting DS in a high-chair to get him used to it and he loves it. I am using the Ikea Antilop one, as I read good reviews on MN, and it's a bargain!

comeagainforbigfudge · 19/11/2015 15:31

zah I have the ikea one as well.

Finger foods I was planning of introducing are: carrots, green beans, broccoli, potato/sweet potato, parsnips, cucumber.

Was thinking cutting into chip size chunks then steaming (apart from cucumber!)

It's funny weaning and having to think of finger foods etc. But it's a good way of checking my own diet and stop me eating hunters of my usual rubbish Grin

Hi All,

So, on the positive news front, we started weaning a couple of days ago! DS only tasted a minimal bit, and I suspect that next to nothing was actually eaten, but we do want to take it slow, and let him discover tastes, smells and textures... We started with the classic carrot puree.

On less positive news, nights are horrendous. They seem to be getting worse. A month ago, he was waking up once, and would easily go back to sleep, and now we are up 5-6 times a night! I am exhausted....
He always seems hungry at night, and doesn't seem to eat much during the day. He is fed EBM by the bottle during the day, so maybe he is reverse cycling, but in any case it is a nightmare...
I am so tired....

Any suggestions? Do I decide that I have to stop feeding him during the night? Try controlled crying?

I hope you are all getting more sleep than me!

excitedbutsick · 24/11/2015 16:06

Our sleep has changed too, DS is regularly going to sleep at 11pm instead of 8-10pm. On the bright side he quite likes sleeping in late. DS had his first tooth come through yesterday and seems a lot happier in himself.

I don't have any advice about the sleep issues Zah.

FuzzyOwl · 24/11/2015 16:13

I am still loitering as well. Smile

We are the opposite to you Zah. Sleeping through the nights is fine but weaning is non existent. She has refused everything that I have offered so I spoke to a HV today and am going on a weaning talk on Thursday. I tried BLW to begin with and had no success, so tried puréed and had even less success!

comeagainforbigfudge · 24/11/2015 19:06

Evening all

Zah I've had to introduce controlled crying during the day (well my version of it) as DD just fights sleep some most of the time. You can only try? See what happens

Hi fuzzy owl how long have you been trying to wean. I found my local weaning talk was all about how to prepare food, not much on how long it takes. I just keep reminding my self that baby needs to learn what food is and HOW to eat.

Anyway, I'm so far finding timing is key. I've been trying shortly before her next feed is due but she either refuses or spits out. But gulps her milk down. So I guess just tooooooo hungry.

So I tried about 1hour after her bottle with some success. Still not pleased or keen to eat it mind you.

Was stressing me a wee bit so i texted some mummy friends and BOTH suggested sweet potato. That their kids wolfed it down. Going to try that (pureed with some of her formula) tomorrow so i'll report back

They also suggested butternut squash and said it took ages to get past first stage.

OP posts:
FuzzyOwl · 24/11/2015 19:52

About a week to ten days now but I haven't offered food every day, since sometimes we have been out and bottles have been more convenient. I have tried banana, red pepper, baby cob, broccoli, carrot, parsnip and also a bought purée of sweet potato, carrot and broccoli. You have summed up my issue - I need to get her to learn about food and how to eat.

Please let me know if sweet potato and formula or butternut squash works for you, so I can give it a go.

Bazza2 · 25/11/2015 00:13

Sleep here is TERRIBLE. We have teething, a cold, jet lag, and freezing weather. All joining together for a wake up every hour.

We've started giving food. I'm pretty certain he isn't actually taking anything much in but he's tasting things so that's the main thing. We've given potato, carrot, banana, sweet potato, and broccoli so far. Broccoli was not popular but sweet potato was good. I just roasted it in chunky sticks and he just gummed it. Will try squash tomorrow.

zahaziland · 25/11/2015 09:39

comeagain, my DS does the same: he just fights sleep during the day too..

Last night was marginally better. We decided to stick to our guns and not feed him on demand - he seems that he needs confort more than milk. I fed him once during the night, and then again at 6am. He cried a lot, but when he finally settled, he slept about 4 hours, which is better than previous nights.
He currently sleeps in a sleep bag, but I may also try adding a light blanket (tucked in under the mattress).

bazza are you doing BLW? How old is your LO?
fuzzy, I think weaning just takes time... it's a lot for babies to process, new tastes, smells, colours, textures

I tried carrot puree for the first three days, then moved on to parsnip. I was advised to offer the same vegetable for 3 days in a row, to be able to identified any intolerance. Is this out-dated advice?

excited, a first tooth! how exciting!

comeagainforbigfudge · 25/11/2015 19:10

Well done on sticking to your guns zah. Hope tonight is better again.

Fuzzy, I've been doing the same as zah re 3 days of one veg before trying next.

Was going to try sweet potato today. Except the sweet potato we had in looked decidedly not very nice. So we tried and failed with carrot.

DD also has this wee red rash on her cheeks. Think she's teething Sad

Aw bazza, that sounds like a rubbish mix. Hope you had had a better day today
