Right, I'll start us a post natal thread that we can gibber on.

We had vomit sunami X2 yesterday. One just before our dinner, which necessitated a quick bath/hair wash (which toots hated til sat her in the water then she was happy -ish). 2nd was about half 11 and all down her dad, took. But since then she slept for four hour stretches and been much more settled.

We formula feeding on demand (anywhere from 30ml to 90mls) but I don't know if we fed too much or didn't wind properly. But she is pooing for Britain so no problems that end.

Morning all. Been quiet for a while but keen to share experiences/glean wisdom from other mums in the same boat!

We're struggling a bit with sleep at the mo and I feel all at sea, as never had this with DS1. DS2 still seems to need to be swaddled (just arms) in order not to wake himself up with his hands through the night. The problem with this is that if he escapes the swaddle he wakes up crying. Last night he did this about five times between 10 and 3 Sad then he wakes for a feed (still!) and goes back to sleep fine, but then wakes up every 5-10 mins from 4.30 onwards, and only settles if I put my hand on his chest and shush him. Otherwise he's awake and good to go at 4.30 Shock. The interrupted sleep is really taking its toll on me. Anyone else going through similar or got any advice?

Bazza2 · 30/01/2016 23:00

How are you doing excited?

Bazza2 · 31/01/2016 05:32

guinness that sounds hard. Sorry I don't think I can think of anything useful to say to help. What's your sleeping arrangement? Is he in his own room? When A went through a rough patch again I just dragged some bedding through and slept on the floor next to his bed. That way I could just poke a hand through the bars and reassure him, or put Ewan back on without too much general disturbance.

Chookford · 02/02/2016 17:52

Ladies! Can I sneak back in? Been off mn for a while and lost everyone!

Hope you are all ok, sorry to hear some are still suffering with sleep deprivation. Hopefully it will improve soon!

Babies will all be one soon, god that's scary Shock

comeagainforbigfudge · 02/02/2016 22:52

I know Chook how bloody scary. Im having to think about going back to work soon. DD has been for a couple of settling in visits to nursery. I swear she was in a huff with me for coming back to get her too soon at her last one!! Grin

excited hope things are improving, or at least on an even keel, for you.

guinness hope you got some advice with sleep for your wee one. I find a perusal of the sleep board handy. FATEdestiny always comes along with great advice Wink

We seem to be in a good phase at the moment. DD has almost figured out how to crawl. The hands are being lifted up and the legs moving but not in a co-ordinated way yet although she also pulls herself upright. Just to knees, but every now and then one foot os placed down Shock they just growing up to fast arent they?!!!

OP posts:
Chookford · 03/02/2016 14:51

Me too fudge I'm due back beginning of May.. It's come round so quickly! M is the same with crawling although she is pulling herself up on the furniture more and more now so not sure if she is just going to get up and walk like her sister did... Really need to think about stair gates now!

Chookford · 03/02/2016 14:58

I've just caught up properly excited sorry to hear you are struggling but as others have said you are not a burden on anyone... You are not choosing to feel this way! And the your ds would not be better without you, you are his world

I really hope you are feeling better about things, but you need to be completely honest with the doc about your feelings.. PND is a common part of having a baby, you are not alone Flowers

zahaziland · 04/02/2016 10:21

Morning,
Nice to see some activity on this thread - it can get quiet at times.
It looks like we are all in similar phases with our babies: they are starting to move! DS doesn't crawl (yet?) but can definitely make his way around a room by rolling around. He also looks to stand up (with me holding him) and it can actually be quite difficult to sit him down, as he keeps his legs straight as poles!
I am still a member of the sleep-deprived group.... DS is still waking at least once per night, but admittedly that is a lot better than before.

How much/what are your little ones eating at the moment? BLW didn't work for us (much to my disappointment), probably also because I was back at work when DS started weaning, and our nanny didn't really get BLW, so I was preparing purees for him. However, I would like now to introduce more finger foods, but he doesn't seem very interesting in eating it.

Chookford · 05/02/2016 19:20

zaha M eats everything in sight, so I'm not much help really sorry! She is a child with no off switch! She was a little fussy with finger foods when we first weaned her but she just got better with time and perseverance and now tries to eat dinner off of our plates! Blush

FuzzyOwl · 05/02/2016 19:22

Hello, how is everyone getting on?

DD is just getting her third tooth through but so far it doesn't seem to be bothering her.

We are trying to BLW/finger foods and although she is keen to chew and play with the food, I don't think she swallows much. Hopefully that will change soon.

comeagainforbigfudge · 12/02/2016 17:57

Uh oh DD has figured out how to crawl forward the traditional way. Still not gettng far and more often resorts to one knee/one foot combo but eeeeeek!!!

I have a massive play pen that we use in living room so dont need to baby proof place just yet Grin

zah i have been spoon feeding and dd currently has say a weetabix for breakfast and generally whatever we are having for dinner but its mashed or shredded for her.

Lunch and snacks are normally finger foods. She LOVES bread and cheese spread! Bits of cucumber, clementines, raspberries.

Actually, i could use ideas for lunches as always seem to give her the same thing everyday. Trying to avoid egg seems to have stumped me Shock

Anyway, shes settling in really well at nursery and the staff commented today on how well she wass eating, apart from fruit pots. She doesnt seem to be liking them!

She been waking several times overnight, mainly for her dummy but shes also crawling in her sleep and hitting head off top of cot. Hoping that she goes back to her normal sleep pattern soon

FuzzyOwl · 12/02/2016 18:33

My DC can still only wriggle backwards and roll over in circles to get somewhere. I seem to be in the minority, but I am really looking forward to her being able to move about I reserve the right to change my opinion once it starts happening.

We are still having lots of finger foods for lunch, or else various things on toast.

comeagainforbigfudge · 12/02/2016 19:35

Yeh fuzzy im the same. DD has been desperate to get moving so the more shes able to move the less tears we have.

Although nappy changing IS NOT FUN. She just wont stay still anymore Sad

OP posts:
Chookford · 12/02/2016 19:50

fuzzy you may well regret that comment soon! Wink
M is the same, rolling around and going backwards or bum shuffling but no real crawling as yet. She also doesn't have any teeth yet.. It seems to be taking forever!

come m has finger foods for lunch too and I've just started on jacket potato with cheese spread, cut small.

The crawling in the sleep should stop soon once she has really got to grips with it! I remember the wiggling away with a dirty bum well Grin I'm not looking forward to it again

FuzzyOwl · 12/02/2016 20:32

We have two bottom teeth and a tiny bit of a top one at the moment but I can see three other top ones about to come through.

Chookford · 13/02/2016 17:51

She has been teething for months but still nothing has come through! It's ridiculous

Bazza2 · 13/02/2016 21:59

We didn't have any teeth til ten days ago, now we have two. He's a total potato though, no sign of crawling or even rolling yet. He likes walking when I'm holding his hands though, maybe he'll skip the crawling stage.

comeagain cous cous and pasta are pretty popular here, and I'm trying to make falafel next.

comeagainforbigfudge · 14/02/2016 08:20

Still no teeth here either

Tried cous cous, shes not overly keen but it will be getting tried again soon. Might try polenta "chips" as well.

Funnily enough i decided to try falafel as well.

OP posts:
FuzzyOwl · 14/02/2016 15:47

The top four teeth are now all on their way through and I think hope that is why feeding has been so rubbish lately.

Bazza2 · 14/02/2016 19:42

Ooh polenta chips, he'd like them I think.

zahaziland · 15/02/2016 13:52

Oh, it sounds like I definitely need to step up the game feeding wise. As I work full-time, the nanny feeds DS lunch and mid-afternoon. I tend to always leave purees: protein (chicken or fish mashed up) with vegetable puree + a tiny splash of olive oil. Sometimes I give mini-pasta shapes, which DS loves. But not really much finger-food. I think deep down I worry about DS choking on finger food or not eating it, and prefer to leave it for the weekend. Ultimately DS just doesn't seem interested, but he can't keep on eating purees forever!

Still no teeth for us either.

On the sleep front, I have been trying a method described in the sleep section (under a thread called "What worked for us" or something like that) and it seems to be working. We are on night 3, and DS still wakes up but gets back to sleep with minimal fuss and importantly remains in his cot (and doesn't end up co-sleeping). The first night was awful, as it took him 1h20' to settle the first time he work up during the night, and 1h the second time...

Bazza2 · 15/02/2016 19:54

I made mushroom and chickpea burgers for us all today, he really liked it!

comeagainforbigfudge · 16/02/2016 09:54

DD had her first full day of nursery yesterday. Was absolutely fine. as was I And she has slept through the past two nights, well apart from one wee 15 minute blip where she was working out a fart. Then promptly fell asleep after it Grin

chook does your DD like jacket potatos? Mine turns her nose up at potatos. Unless its well disguised with curry sauce or gravy.

Oh bazza mushroom and chickpea burgers sound good. I tried the felafels. Not to sure they went down well or not. She seemed a bit unimpressed Hmm. I always think they are quite dry. Need to investigate a better way of doing them i think.

Zah i dont puree anything but i do mash her dinner. Breakfast is normally weetabix, porridige or shredded wheat.
Lunch is always finger foods (although trying to give her beans now) but i always give her really soft bread, soft fruits, really well cooked veg. Stuff that is soft and basically disintegrates when in mouth or hands

FuzzyOwl · 16/02/2016 11:48

The favourite finger food here is toast and I kind of justify its variety with all the different toppings - humus, peanut butter, banana, avocado etc are all winners here.

Chookford · 16/02/2016 18:41

come M loves jacket potato and any kind of potato really... Today we have sweet potato and carrots to be fair though she eats everything! She is such a chunk Grin the only thing I have found so far that she doesn't enjoy is pork! But will persevere and see if she gets there in the end! Hooray for the first full day at nursery!

M sleeps through most nights now and if she does wake I leave her to sort herself out and that seems to do the trick ( If she is obviously in pain or distressed I go in though) she is a lazy bones though this was evident by being 12 days late!

Lots of good ideas re finger foods will be nicking some of these ideas! 😉
