Merry belated Christmas and Happy New Year everyone!
And Help!
My ds has started refusing to open his mouth for food! He was a fab wolfer of food and now he only eats veg soup with half-interest. I have to prise open his mouth with soft spoon and much clowning for anything else.
Is it teething? Because we're also back to very broken nights and sudden screaming.
Why why why....

blobsmummy · 08/01/2007 10:36

Congrats Trinity !

Welcome malinki - my dd also preferred bottle to breast, which I was actually quite pleased about once I got over the guilt coz then at least DH could take his turn and we could go out in the evening! hope the boobs heal soon...

fay68 - dd swings wildly between crying coz we can't spoon in the food fast enough, and mucking about and blowing raspberries with the food, to point blank refusal. My thoughts on it are that she's asserting her independence (groan) but that no baby will deliberately starve themselves by being awkward. I guess she's just not hungry at the mo. I find that just before a growth spurt, she'll hardly eat anything and then she goes all out for food after a few days.

DD enjoying racing around the front room now and her little feet can't go fast enough! DH and I are going to end up like hunch backs at this rate!

Finona · 08/01/2007 11:53

Hi all, and happy new year to everyone. I've had no time for posting, as on Boxing Day, after 2 weeks of being incredibly grumpy/not sleeping/eating, DS came out in a lovely rash of spots - we have the pox! (Chicken that is)

Last week I went back to work, which was a bit of a shock to the system. Got the bairns fed and bedded each night and promptly fell asleep on the settee myself! DH coped brilliantly - in fact on Thursday, which was his first day of having both of them by himself, I came home to find DS having a nap, DD rolling about the floor in front of a roaring log fire, and tea in the oven. It's never that peaceful when I'm at home with the 2 of them.

Today, I noticed a couple of spots on DD's face, and on further examination there's more appearing on her body...at least it gets it over and done with I suppose. Out with the calamine lotion again...

blobsmummy · 09/01/2007 10:17

OK, DD has also started waking early too, though she settled herself to sleep again without us having to go in there. I think she's suddenly decided that she really doesn't need all that sleep when there are so many other great things to do. What with her, and then DH snoring last night, I feel a very sleepy mummy this morning .

alibobble · 09/01/2007 13:37

fay dd does this too. Is also to do with (for us that is) of the balance of milk and food. if I give bottle first, she refuses food as not hungry, No bottle = screaming too hungry baby! Madness. Ooooo one trick that works with dd is to give her her own spoon. When she has it she puts it to her mouth (not to eat off, just to chew) and thus opens her mouth. I have second spoon and post some in! that seems to work. plus why do they always seem to faff when you have to feed them in a hurry, or something else needs doing?

blobsmummy dd has drastically cut back on sleep since getting better. She used to go down at 7 and sleep till 7.30/45 and now is waking 7am. I know that's prob bliss to some early wakers but id def a shock to me. I think for dd it's because she's cut back her milk intake alot with solids (we had to reintroduce 10.30 feed for a while) but she's settling down now. might have to chop back on the lunch time sleep if she starts getting any earlier. we're down to a nap in the AM (20-30mins) and 2 hrs at lunch. Am loathed to cut it back cos otherwise can't get anything done. (see me doing the house work now! ;)

is it me or does it go from being a joy to be a mum to being a complete nighmare overnight? and WHY can I ask does dd decide to have her worst and most inconsolable days when I have monster PMT?! that said, I've just had awful trip to hospital for appt for me and dd was a gorgeous darling and well behaved, charming everyone.

Totally agree alibobble: one day your up and the next day crashing down! They do like to keep you on your toes.

DS is still waking early (@ 5.30am). Tried cutting back on naps but doesn't have any effect BUT he did put himself back to sleep this morning until....6.45am - bliss! He is just full of beans wanting to start his day at this time - roll on him being a sleepy moody teenager! DH and me have decided "if you can't beat them, join them" so are going to bed at 9pm - I do hope this is just a phase!

Back to playgroup today - armed with his lunch (used to feed him before but its now pushed back to 11.30am so have to take everything with me). He wolfed it all down AND didn't ask for his milk - a first! Don't know if it was different scenery or just his appetite getting bigger but fingers crossed...

re: getting him to take food - he grabs the spoon off me (I sometimes use 4 spoons)so although it takes ages and you have to pick up spoons off floor continually, he does enjoy feeding himself- maybe a plan for lo's who refuse?

vbab78 · 10/01/2007 08:39

DS Update ... he is now at 29 weeks 20lb 3oz and can finally go in his next car seat. He has been finding for a long while now the first seat very uncomfortable but the HV said for safety reasons I needed to wait until he was 20lb+.

The HV is very happy with him and says the 22oz of milk a day and 3 meals is fine.

blobsmummy · 10/01/2007 09:12

alibobble - your dd seems to be in the same routine as mine - I'm also loathe to change it because of the whole housework thing, esp now I'm at work half the week.

Glad other mummies are finding the whole experience a roller coaster. At times I absolutely love it, then at others I feel so panicky that I can't cope and that it's all too much. Hence why conversations with DH re: another baby range wildly from day to day that we'd love another one now, to not having another one for 5 years!(if ever).

DD on antibiotics at the mo as her bad cold has caused her to be very congested in her ears. She's taking the medicine so well though and thought that the doctor was great when she was allowed to touch his stethoscope!

Our cat is now giving DD a very wide berth after she managed to pull her fur. Was terrified that the cat would respond but to her credit she disappeared under the bed all day only to reappear once DD was in bed.

hello everyone. Glad you had a good time away ww. Elk? Wow how unusual. managed to get to the trafford centre with dd today. was really early (before 10) and loads of shops were still shut. was really eeire! but better than fighting the crowds with dd for a first shopping trip. (she's a coddled little mite!) the thing is I hate shopping so I wasn't keen to subject dd! Bought myself some undies in the la senza sale. had dd one the floor in the changing rooms and she kept trying to roll out under the door! it certainly amused the ladies working there.

Speaking of angles, must go and get dd up.

Welcome home WW, glad you had a good holiday.
DS is really growing so quickly, As soon as you put him on his back he turns onto his front. Sits for awhile unaided and then decides flopping back onto the cushions surrounding him is much more fun. He is eating well, went through a phase of not wanting milk and hardly eating, but now seems to need all the milk again.
Still not a good sleeper in his cot, seems to like being in the bed with me and being held. But at least he then sleeps. Will need to do something soon, as our DD who's 6 also doesn't fall asleep on her own. But she's got special needs, so doesn't understand change. But DS will need to learn to fall asleep on his own and settle himself in his cot. Any tips to help me teach him to fall asleep, without too many tears?
Hope everyone's lo's are well.

HELLO EVERYONE
Hope everyone had a great christmas and a good new year.

I havent been on her for about 4 months. just dont seen to have the time dh gets on line while i am still putting ds1 to bed and by the time he's finished i am fast asleep on the sofa.

ds2 now 30 weeks and weighing 18lb.
he is eating 3 solid meals a day, 25oz milk and 2 45 min sleeps through the day and 12 hours on a night, i feel like a dead lucky mummy, ds1 was never this good. i think the first sight of a tooth is coming through, again ds1 was 9 months b4 his first came through.
He is also allover the place, not crawling but spinning round and going backwards!!!

Mitchell81 · 14/01/2007 21:41

Thanks WW, but no definetley want DS to sleep all night in his own bed.
Hello Baby2, you do have it lucky with your LO.
Tried leaving DS to fall asleep on his own, but he got so worked up and crying, Couldn't leave him so picked him up and he then fell asleep. Try again tomorrow I suppose.

alibobble · 15/01/2007 09:13

Hi, welcome back WW - glad to hear you had a fab time - the food sounds amazing!

DD off antibiotics now and seems back to her normal self. She spends most of the day saying 'baba', so only a short step until she says 'mama' hopefully!

vbab78 · 15/01/2007 13:16

Hello ladies I hope everyone is well.

I'm a little down in the dumps because I will be going back to work in 7 weeks. It hit me like a brick how soon it was when I went into work last week to sort out the details of me working part time.

I'm also having a problem with DS and I was hoping you ladies might be able to help. I've having trouble getting DS down for his daytime naps. He has a routine of when I feed him and when he has naps which he has always been happy with in the past. I would put him down at the time and he would fall asleep on his own with the only noise being him talking himself to sleep. But for the last 5 days he has been a nightmare to get down so bad that it can be hours after his normal nap time that he goes down after a lot of screaming and rolling around his cot. I wonder if its his top teeth coming through (he has his bottom 2) but that wouldn't just affect daytime naps would it?

FYI: DS is now 30 wks, 20lb 3oz, very happy with his 22oz of milk and 3 meals a day. Absolutely loving his new car seat.

sarahsbump · 15/01/2007 13:27

Hi all hope you are well x
DS has always been a pretty good fellow but now he has settled into a perfect routine

7:00 wakes up and has a bottle
9:30 has breakfast (loves weetabix the most)
10:00 nap time (1/2 hour- 1 hour)
12:30 lunch
2:30 nap time (1 hour-1 1/2 hours)
4:00 bottle
6:00 bath
6:30 dinner
7:15 bed time (I give him a bottle in bed then his dummy leave him for 5 mins and he is asleep lol)

The only thing I worry about is when I get a job and he goes to nursery it will throw it a bit but guess I will cross that bridge when I come to it!!
DS is 28 weeks and 18 lb 9oz now

vbab78 · 15/01/2007 14:09

sarahsbump - My DS routine (prior to problems)

6:30 onwards wakes up
7:00 8oz bottle
9:00 nap (1/2 hour)
11:45 breakfast & fruit dessert
12:15 nap time (1 hour ish)
2:30 6oz bottle
5:00 dinner & fruit dessert
6:00 bath
6:30 8oz bottle
7:00 bed time (If not asleep after bottle we leave him to fall asleep which doesn't take long)

He seems fine still with the feeding times and bedtime its just the daytime naps!

DS has just gone down at 2pm and will probably only have half hour rather when in the past it has been 12 onwards for an hour! I HAVE NO CLUE WHAT TO DO.

sarahsbump · 15/01/2007 17:13

VBAB my DS goes through stages of short naps so maybe its just temporary?
Otherwise they might not need it anymore?

vbab78 · 16/01/2007 09:02

sarahsbump - just realised I missed one of DS meal's off! DOH! He has cereal and bottle at 7am, lunch and pudding at 11.45am, bottle at 2.30pm, dinner and pudding at 5pm then bottle at 6.30pm.

foxymagoo · 16/01/2007 09:18

Hey All,

vbab, try not to worry about going back to work, I'm back 3 days and it is alot easier than I thought. I really enjoy having a variety to the week altho' I miss ds dreadfully. He is looked after by his Gran/Granny on alternate days and as I do Mon/Wed/Fri I'm never more than one day away from him.

Call me sad/crazy but do enjoy work days and getting work clothes on/having responsibility for a few hours/cup of tea when I want.

DS still has 3 naps a day but sometimes doesn't need a 4pm one if he has had a longer lunchtime one.

Talking nof naps he is stirring from morning one - gotta go!

SuperSaint · 16/01/2007 11:12

Hi all, It's lovely reading about the progress of all the babies but by the time I've caught up I rarely have time to post!

DS is now 32 weeks and a couple of weeks ago weighed in at 17lbs 15oz. He seems smaller than a lot of the others but is following the 25th centile well.

He is well and truely on 3 meals a day and thriving. He eats pretty much what we eat now just blended up. Macaroni cheese is a particular favourite with both DD and DS. I still make special meals for him in case we eat something thats not suitable (I don't fancy blended up pizza!)

He's reluctant with finger foods and will only eat them if I hold them to his mouth, which is frustrating as he can put everything else (toys, clothes etc) in his mouth very well! He has no teeth yet but is dribbling like crazy so maybe some will appear soon.

I'm going back to work in June 3 days a week as I did before. I can't decide if I'm looking forward to it or not.

Congrats Trinity. I would have loved children closer together but we couldn't really afford it. My sisters and I are close in age and I think it's hard at the beginning but great when they get old enough to entertain each other.
