Re the food stains on clothes and bib / tea towl discussion. I got a huge plastic bib, not the hard kind, it's wipe clean and v big (covers nost of DD's clothes), ties around the neck and is the nest thind I ever got her. She doesn't mind wearing it, unlike the hard pelican bibs. Got it from Woolies...I'd recommend them!! Bibs with arms, also a v handy thing if DD is trying her hand at feeding herself bits of rusk or whatever.

RachelPross: sorry to hear about your DD {{{hugs}}}.

What does BLW mean?

First day back at work - went really well actually, was soo busy that it just flew in and ds gave me the biggest smile and waving of arms when I got homeI just swooped him up and hugged him tight for about 5 minutes.. Was great knowing that I wasn't back in work until Wed.

DS had peas last night and was unsettled during the night... Have ordered seom petite filous(sp?)from Tesco to give him on his 6th month b'day on Wed.

Thanks all for your support. Have decided to go back to GP as DH and I have so many questions we want to ask that I just didn't think of at the time. I think I was just so stunned I couldn't think!!
The good news is that according to all the websites I've looked at this afternoon say that if the baby is gaining weight, has a good appetite and isn't short of breath then it's not serious...my DD is not any of the above so I refuse to panic!!

vbab78 · 05/12/2006 06:50

rachelpros - Good luck. Hope everything works out.

On further reflection DH and I have realised the GP probably wouldn't be able to answer the questions we want to ask...called the paediatric cardiologist's secretary in our local hospital and found that the waiting list isn't too long so will be writing those questions down and saving them for the specialist.
Will keep you posted

alibobble · 05/12/2006 14:09

that's a really good idea. Plus you'll think of other things between now and then so keep list handy and add to it. Hope things work out.. keep us posted. Will pray for your LO.

WW also feel uncomfortable wit hthe whole BLW thing but not sure why. Don't think I know enough about it to judge but dd seems perfectly happy with a combination of mush and finger foods (mainly rice cakes TBH so I'm sticking with that.

RachelPross - hope all goes well with DD and you get the answers you want.

DD is 6 months old today! Hurray for cow's milk in cooking and gluten!! Next milestone is 3rd Jan when I go back to work, but trying not to think to much about that.....Glad it went Ok for you Foxy.

Last night when I was putting DD to bed, I remembered how I wondered if I could ever love another one as much as DS...now DD is here, I can't remember just having the one, if you know what I mean!

6 months does seem to open up a whole new world!!

re: going back to work, I just refused to get all down about it as I used to get quite blue about going back after holidays etc. bc actually I used to get blue every Sunday night!! I did keep in touch with boss and popped in for a few meetings to keep my toe in so to speak so not too big a shock yesterday. I'm lucky that I work for NHS and my boss is ex-midwife so LOVES babies and very accomodating. I may be in the honeymoon period tho' - we'll see how I feel in a few weeks!

And being at work yesterday made me enjoy today with ds even more as I cherished every minute.

There was a brand new lo at playgroup this morning and one of the Mum's said "oh she's just out the wrapper" which made me LOL. You forget how tiny and still they are!

I'm having on and off broody moments - its a bit worrying..

ww have tried salt and sugar free rice crackers which go down a treat. sneakily tried toast the other morning as dd was staring at mine longingly but she sucked it and got a wedge of gelatenous goo stuck to the roof of her mouth and nearly choked so will wait a bit with that methinks! scary! like i say, rice crakers=good and easily crumble into LO sized pieces. often hand dd bits of carrot etc when i'm chopping them for tea but really just so she can have a practice mouth at them not to really eat but am hoping the practice will pay off.

btw any hints on early stopping of nipping? dd doesn't realise it hurts and grabs your face/chin/hands really hard. know she doesn't understand so am not mad cross but want to discourage it IYSWIM. Any thoughts?

DS had a HV check yesterday and is now at 24 weeks 19lb. The only thing is it is only an increase of nearly 7oz in four weeks and he normally puts on a couple of lb so it doesn't seem much but the HV is more than happy with him.

DS is now on 3 meals a day and one less bottle and I've knocked down 2oz off 2 other feeds so he now has 28oz a day. The only thing she said to do now is increase the amount of food. I explained that he will eat whatever is put in front of him!

DS is sort of starting to crawl by pushing himself along but with his bum in the air and his face in the carpet! Also if I put him in a sitting position or standing against the sofa he can do it. Clever little boy. He also keeps smiling wider I thnk to show off his tooth. He is also a little more whingy on occasion and I have no clue why ... must take after his dad .

fay68 · 06/12/2006 09:31

RachelPross will pray for your LO. I had a scare just before ds was born - the scan showed an enlarged kidney they said. But like yours, he gained weight well after being born which is a good sign with babies apparently so it was a false alarm.
I'm not into BLW either but not exactly against it. Agree that its hard to know if they're temporarily full and just playing about...
On the yoghurt front anyone one make their own daily fresh yoghurt for LO's? You can use formula (3 measures formula + 90ml boiled warm water as you would mix a bottle, add a teaspoon of normal yoghurt and stir. Cover with a cloth and leave in a warm place to ferment for 3-4 hrs). you can add pureed fruit. dd and now ds loves it - doesn't taste as bitter as shop yoghurt.

alibobble · 06/12/2006 13:14

vbab: the winging could be another tooth? DD got both bottom ones almost simultaneously 2 weeks ago and I think is trying to brew another lot as we've had a respite of a week and now the cheeks are back on full tooth producing red mode!

Fay68: Not thought of doing that tho have to seek advice from HV re weaning dd onto anything dairy as she's suspected lactose intolerant (still seeking help from doc) and has never even had dairy via breast milk.

Oh dear.. . gotta go she's yelling upstairs. think it might be the lentils in last night's tea causing trouble!

foxymagoo · 06/12/2006 19:10

vbab - what time are your lo's meals? We're stil on 2 a day (after 11am bottle and with water at 5pm before bottle after bath at 6.30pm). Was thinking of introducing breakfast next week at @ 8am which would enable us to start pushing 11am bottle/food back to lunchtime.. Is this similar to what you do?

ww: ds is my first! My broodiness is weird as I found his first 3 months really hard and was even having conversations with dh about stopping at 1 but I had just given birth and they say you forget the early weeks quite quickly (mother nature is very cunning!). Just want to make family 'complete' and for ds to have a wee friend. Its lovely to hear the stories of the lo's who have big brothers and sisters and how they dote on them.. Will deffy give it until this time next year before we get serious tho'.

Still no sign of any teeth from ds and I drank gallons of milk when I was pg!

vbab78 · 07/12/2006 07:04

foxymagoo - DS routine:

6.15am onwards - DS wakes up.
7am Feed - 8oz bottle.
9 to 9.15am - DS put down for a nap.
9.45am ish - DS wakes up and we play
11am Feed - Cereal and 6oz bottle.
12 - Ds put down for nap.
I leave him to wake up when he wants but no later than 2pm.
2.30pm Feed - Main Meal (big portion of veg). Thinking of trying half the amount of meal so I can give him a pudding after just to vary it.
Water to drink from 2 handled a cup.
Maybe half a rusk or apple between this and next feed.
5pm Feed - Fruit pudding of some sort and 6oz bottle.
6pm ish - Get DS ready for bed.
6.30pm Feed - 8oz bottle.
7pm - Bed.

Hope this helps .

foxymagoo · 07/12/2006 08:50

thanks vbab this is great! Our routine is very similar wake, nap and bedtimewise altho' ds still has a 4pm ish nap and normally only sleeps for @ 1 hour at lunchtime, although it is getting longer and his 4pm nap shorter - think this is going to be cut out over the next month or so..

alibobble · 07/12/2006 13:34

our routine is pretty much similar but have meal with 11am bottle rather than 2.30pm but other than that pretty similar. DD has a 2 hour nap at lunch so mostly doesn't have an afternoon nap tho some days she needs a power nap of like 5-10 mins in the pram!

OP posts:
fay68 · 07/12/2006 19:45

We have basically the same routine, although ds also has a nap around 4pm so we're still on 3 naps a day. However they're all getting a bit shorter although ds gets very sleepy after 2 -3 hrs of being awake.

ds is getting more active each day, albeit bit of a nightmare. He rolled over and over from his gym mat and bumped his head against his bouncy chair before my very eyes. Mind you, it was my yell of terror that made him cry rather than any pain.

On a more yucky note, ds sometimes gets a bit of blood in his poo, we did have it tested and got an all-clear. However, it's still going on now and then. Anyone else got this? I wonder if I should go back for more tests. He still poos at least 3 x day (BF though).

vbab78 · 08/12/2006 07:20

DS has started with cold (again) and is teething also. Got a feeling today is not going to be good.

alibobble · 08/12/2006 14:03

Aw poor you. I have sore throat and cold but dd seems to be holding up better. She has a horrid cough but not too bunged up so seems not too bothered. Bit sleepier than usual.

Ok really random qu: For those who's periods are back: are they different from before? Mine don't last as long... wow a bonus (or something!)

foxymagoo · 08/12/2006 18:52

I've just picked up antibiotics as I have chest infection - grrr - must be that time of year.

My periods took 3 months to come back and are making up for lost time as I get them every 3 weeks - lovely! Also heavier than before. I've not been on the pill for years so can't put it down to that. ho hum.
