Hey guys. Hope you find this thread. Blobsmummy suggested starting a new thread to save trawling the first which was rather monster. Sorry re title. Had no idea what to cll it! DD had 3rd injections yesterday. Were much better than last lot. Nurse seemed to know what she was doing much better than last tiem. What a relief.

Thanks for all the advice. Alibobble - I have just dropped the 11am breastfeed as I introduced lunch instead. After breakfast DS seems quite happy to last until 11.30 / 11.45 ish without anything else so I don't think he needs another milk feed. Also, it means if i'm out in the morning there is not a rush to get home by 11am or try and feed him when we're out so it's more convenient for me too

He gets alot of formula added to his food (e.g 2 oz at breakfast to his porridge and 3 oz to sweet potato and swede at tea last night) so I'm sure he is having enough. Also he has petit filous yoghurts. I think my DS is a bit older then yours (May 27th) plus we're lucky there doesn't seem to be any intolerences in the family so i'm only using the ages that foods are suitable as a rough guide!

I think I'm going to gradually reduce the 10.30am feed and see what happens. I'll let you know...

Finona · 23/11/2006 15:40

We've got a really similar timetable to you, Supersaints and weaning is going really well. It seems like most days we are mostly eating orange food, as DD loves sweet potato, butternut squash, will tolerate carrot, and polishes off apricot and peach puree. I also add baby rice to bulk out fruit purees, but she won't take formula, so have had to go with the powdered stuff that you add water to.

Bad news is that after building up my hopes (I know, I should've known better....) DD slept through for 3 nights and for the last 2 has been wakening again for b/f at midnight and 3am Oh well...this too will pass....

alibobble · 23/11/2006 22:28

Ah my mum's just visited with the most gorgeous cot quilt for dd. She's sleeping under it now. My mum made it and it has the most cute picture on it. She's started shuffling in her sleep but never down, always up so I'm pretty confident she's not going to disapear under it. that said I've turned it through 90 o so that it's not as long and so she can't get lost under it. Since introducing a blanket dd seems to be sleeping better as seems less tired in the morning and i don't hear her sing songing to herself at various points in the evening (but then going back to sleep) which she was doing recently. Am off tobed now for a decent sleep as is last chance for a lie in (7.15/20 rather htan 7am!) as DH is away and so his alarm isn't going off and waking both me and dd! nighty night.

btw was going to ask. anyone norice that jar food makes their LO constipated? TMI maybe? Just been to visit PIL and she was on jars which she grudgingly ate but not as much as she wolfs mine [smug] Found she got very bunged up but on arrival home and reintroduction of mums icecubes has got tings moving again!

OP posts:
ladyschaefer · 24/11/2006 09:38

Yup i have the same problem with jar food, DS doesnt seem to like it much either. He's eating the Heinz powdered food at the moment and he's loving it. He's still waking at least once during the night for a feed but i think it's more of a comfort thing for him, he's a very cuddly baby.

alibobble · 24/11/2006 16:33

awwww! I just love it when they look at you with those big eyes and throw their tiny arms round you. it makes my heart melt. esp if she's been particularly grumpy!

Ladys: Glad it's not just me! Also find it with pear for some reason. think it's the pectin so have started mixing in prune puree which dd LOVES cos it's dead sweet and certainly gets things shifting along again!

another weaning question!

When you talk about 'ice cubes' i.e. "dd/ds has 2-3 cubes" do you mean normal ice for drink cubes or the annabel karmel massive ones? I use the AK ones and ds takes 2 of those (although there is always some left). He is still getting his food after he has finished his bottle so maybe that's why there is always some left... hmmm.

ds rolled all the way over the living room this morning - also now on tummy when we go in in the morning.

After big chat dh and me decided to turn dining room into his playroom (ds's not dh's!). Dining Room is seldom used (you should see dust on table!) so thought we'd put it to better use. Also means ds can have run of downstairs when he is crawling - just need to get some locks for kitchen cupboards.

So that is what ds is getting from Santa - a playroom!

happybebe · 25/11/2006 19:18

hi all!

Been a very long time since i wrote lol, in fact was on the old thread...i havent seen Vbab about on this one, anyone know if she is okay? Blobsmummy, eek lol, but if its any concellation i fell pregnant with elsie when my eldest was 5 months old, there are 14 months between them, and its rough yeah...but worth every second ;)

I weaned elsie at 4 months happily (did you know scotland has changed its weanign guidelines back to 4-6 months instead of six?!) Elsie was clearly ready and i have never known a baby to wean so well, she eats everything, sucks it happily off the spoon then looks about for more. She has been sleeping 7-7 since she was 3 and a half months old, so i am a lucky well rested mummy! She can roll over a lot now and is even getting the hang of sitting up for a very short while, her latest trick is shaking the rattle all by herself! She has not had her 2nd or 3rd baby jabs yet though and of course should have finished them by now, but she had three viral infections, one after the other (i was taking her to playgroup with DD1 and think she just picked up all sorts from there) and so couldnt have them done and now they have no appointments till after christmas!!! still i guess one is better than none. She is in 6-9 month cloths already at 5 months, its so strange as DD1 is 19 months and still fits 9-12 month clothes. kids hey hope everyone else and there babies are doing good.

Foxy: I use ordinary cubes not massive ones. Not sure how big anabel ones are but dd takes 4/5 veg and 2/3 fruit at 2 meals. HTH since no idea what that equates to in large cubes? 2/3 maybe?

happy it is weird them being in bigger clothes than they are aged but I've found, esp with cotton nappies that the sizes are a complete waste of time tbh. DD is in 9-12mth vests as there was no point buying 6-9 as she would grow out of them v quickly with a cotton nappy on. Does look funny when she has disposable on tho: is massive!

What are people buying LO for Christmas? What does a 6mth old play ith? DD still playin gwith selection of houshold objects and fav chew thing called mr octopus! Have no idea what she'll be doing next week let alone in a few moths time...

Ali - for DS's 1st Xmas we got him one of these things that starts off as an activity centre, turns into a push-along thing when they start walking and then becomes a trike and trailer. He was 9 months old, and was already very mobile by then! I'm afraid we're being real cheapskates when it comes to DD this year...she's getting some clothes which she would be getting anyway (6-9 months, she's quite a dainty lady!) and some odds and ends from Tesco, none of which cost more than £3! teething rings, fabric book etc. Everything she needs at this stage in the way of 'big' toys we have from DS. Really Santa is coming to her so that he doesn't think it's odd that he's getting and she isn't. I think we went OTT with DS for his first 2 Xmases, when he was none the wiser.

WasWondering - glad the kilt was a success! DS wore a Gordon Tartan kilt to a wedding in Canada and his great-grandparents diamond wedding in Orkney last year and was a hit!

foxymagoo · 27/11/2006 18:06

re: kilts - Looking forward to seeing ds in his first kilt (McGregor clan). My nephew (7) wears his alot but doesn't go 'true scotsman' because "its too scratchy on my willie".

Only present we're wrapping for ds is a 'my first christmas' romper suit. As previously mentioned ds is getting a playroom which is his 'big' present.. I think relatives are getting him toys from ELC.

I'm asking for lots of scented candles, anti ageing cream and general girlie pampering things.. Looking forward to being able to have pate and wine this year!

aw kilts are the business! DH has one seeing as I've married into a clan! (Urquhart) He wore it to get married and I thoroughly approve of introducing men to them at the first possible moment.

Am considering buying dd a cot activity centre thing that has 2 sides. One side up to 9 mths and other side 9mth - 2 years. Also seen some well good stacking blocks each with different things in them at toys are us website but they were out ofstock so I hope they have them when i go shopping on thurs.

Had a scare today. ran out of Boots organcs baby rice so bought heinz organic stuff as was the powder one like boots one. Said may contain milk so thought, oh I'll risk it. Never again! a few hours later she was SCEWAMING the house down for an HOUR! it was awful! As a result she's slept a total of close to 2 hours between 7.30 and 7.30! Plus she'd been awake at 6 screaming and gone back to sleep this morning. What a lovely wake up call! DH was off to London and had to be up at 6 anyway. She just beat the alarm!

Hey all. Foxy...I know what you mean about the pate and wine, felt so left out last year. Also havinbg my family and the in-laws for xmas dinner for the 1st time this year so am v excited. My 1st year as a wife and a mum too. WOW.
DD has had a bad cold for the past wekk and a half. Took her to the Dr and he says she has an onnocent heart murmur which freaked me out a bit. Got to take her back to see him Monday next week for a check up. Hoping she'll be better (cold-wise) by then, he reckons that the heart murmur should right itself when she's better...I hope he's right!!!!

Hello All!!!

I'M NOT PREGNANT!!

I've been really unwell for the past few weeks (being sick, fainting, migraines etc) and the doctor's have said that I'm not pregnant , but that I've had a nasty reaction to going back on the pill . It's still taking it's time to get rid of the side effects, but I'm getting there. My mum has been looking after DD and me which is great as I wasn't really in a position to be responsible for DD at times. Whilst I was at the doctors I was also diagnosed with asthma, so it's been non-stop good fun in the BM household!

Thing is, DH and I sort of forgot that I'm not on the pill and didn't take any precautions the other day so......!

Sorry for scaring you WW.

Welcome to all the new peeps

Can you believe our little ones are nearly 6 months! DD sitting quite well on her own now and getting cuter by the week.

alibobble · 29/11/2006 17:57

(((BM))):hurray for the non pg! hope u feel better soon. is ur lo sitting too? it has revolutionised my life with dd because she will play with stuff sat up because she can still see around unlike under baby gym. looking forward to high chair for Christmas from PIL

DD rolled over for first time today...lookedc so shocked and couldn't roll back again. She got so cross. Her cold is getting better now so hoping that when I take her to see the Dr on Monday next week the heart murmur should be gone. Fingers crossed!!!

vbab78 · 30/11/2006 07:27

hello one and all. Don't worry happybebe I'm fine!

DS:

  • 23 weeks old
  • 20lbs+ guessing at HV check next week
  • eating solids 3 times a day (fruit and veg pureed and frozen in ice cubes)
  • trying to cut out one milk but so far got down to half a bottle
  • Sleeping through most nights 7-7.30pm to 6-6.30am
  • Mastered sitting for a short time when put in position
  • can roll onto his belly he tries to crawl but gets further rolling
  • loves standing up (when held), bouncing, playing rough, playing with his keys and book, but most of all BABY EINSTEIN!!! He even gets excited when he sees the DVD screen saver and never fails to create silence
  • cut his first tooth 2 days ago! I had no idea he was teething. When I look back over the last week his behaviour has been bad and walking in the night now I understand it was because he was in pain!

We had a scare 2 weeks ago when DS fell off our bed. BAD PARENTS!! We got him checked out to be on the safe side and he was fine it just shocked him. Talk about a scare. I had put him in the middle of the bed whilst I got dressed as I was watching him. Then DH shouted me and I popped my head round the door for 30 secs tops and heard the thud. Will always feel guilty about it no matter how many people keep reassuring me things happen and more will!

Me and DH are fine and seem to have got used to being mummy and daddy and wouldn't have it any other way. Although I am a little worried that me and DH seem to just be mummy and daddy who do love each other and are great friends but there?s no relationship at all never mind what it used to be. I?m now very body conscious, I was a little before having DS but not like this. It?s my fault.

I'm very fortunate that I get out of the house a lot with my mum and dad in the day which takes pressure off sometimes. I think this helped with the slight depression I had. Also both grandparents love having DS to stay so on occasion we do get to go out and enjoy ourselves. Me and DH are going to Dublin for 2 days near x-mas can't wait but will miss DS.

We have all just got over a diarrhoea and sickness but which was very unpleasant. Luckily I didn't get it as bad as DH so I could still look after DS.

QUESTION - Anyone know of any chairs that are good to go onto after the bouncer? it's just that DS is fast approaching max weight for it and I've seen some very nice chairs but they would be more suitable for when he is older and can support himself. I would need something that still has a strap to hold him in.

Sorry for the long post but not been on for ages. I will try and catch up on the posting when/if I get a minute. Take care.

alibobble · 30/11/2006 08:54

vbab: i askes same qu myself a while ago butthen dd started trying to sit up! maybe you could opt for a reclining high chair suitable from a bit younger than 6 mths rather than splash out on chair then highchair? could act asa play seat, would be strapped un and has handy tray for toys? I'm looking forward to dd's for christmas

OP posts:
foxymagoo · 30/11/2006 09:48

vbab: what about a 'Bumbo' chair? DS sits in his quite the thing and the weight of their bodies keep them in so no need for straps. I place a mini table (old stool i had when I was wee) in front of bumbo when ds is in it and he happily plays with his toys on the table. We also use bumbo for feeding as he is still a bit wee for his highchair. Its v. versatile!
