Hi ladies, here is a thread to get us started. The support of other 'Maysters' has been so valuable, would hate to miss out on this once babies arrive. I have a feeling we are still going to have lots of questions and experiences to share! Smile

Ibu it's frustrating but these babies are still so little, I think most things they do at this stage are relatively normal.

I must be mad though, DD woke up for her night feed just now and barely took anything so I'm awake watching her in case she wakes again. This is after we had to have a full clothing change because she opened her mouth having not swallowed any milk and nearly drowned us both in what spilled out Grin

Ibu1986 · 27/06/2015 05:57

Yes you're right avocado. I often have to remind myself that less than two months ago DS was all cosy and secure inside of me. He's still so little.

I'm also currently watching the baby sleep. Finally got him down for nap (I live abroad so different time zone), but desperately trying to get him to sleep more than 40 mins with Ewan and by placing my hands on him when he stirs. Stupid short sleep cycles!

I hope your DD sleeps for a few more hours.

applecore0317 · 30/06/2015 05:05

How's everyone getting on with the heat? am dreading the next few days and have so far been putting her down to sleep in a vest and using a muslin as a blanket... but wondering whether to do nappy only for the hottest nights.

avocadotoast · 30/06/2015 07:59

We did last night in sleepsuit and usual cellular blanket. I'd been considering Grobag now she's big enough and then the temperature shot up! The one we have is 2.5 tog so she'd be boiling. Not sure whether to buy a 1 tog and just have her in a long sleeved vest in it.

avocadotoast · 30/06/2015 08:31

Also, DH reckons DD has a tooth coming through! He showed me yesterday and it does look like there is a ridge pushing against her top gum. I'm hoping it stays where it is for a bit - she's only 5 weeks old, don't want to start with teething troubles already!

FeelingBlessed77 · 30/06/2015 10:13

Thomas has been sleeping in just a nappy for a couple of weeks, I do put a sheet over him but he kicks it off quite quickly.

Chookford · 30/06/2015 10:31

Mabel is sleeping in a vest with just a light sheet over her, we have a dyson fan in her room which does make it quite cool so I have to watch she doesn't get too chilly.. She hates the heat though yesterday she screamed for 2 hours solid which was was fabulous! Confused

BeanCalledPickle · 30/06/2015 12:13

Jojo sells sheet sleeping bags which are fab!

catnip85 · 30/06/2015 13:04

I havent been able to put DD down more than 5 mins today, the heat has made her seriously grouchy. She's been sleeping in just a vest with a swaddle muslin draped over her legs but might go with just the nappy tonight. And because she's 8wks we've got her first round of immunisations tomorrow Confused

piglet81 · 30/06/2015 14:25

Has DS in a short-sleeved vest and a muslin as a blanket last night. It was scorchio even with a big fan on... I need to get a snoozeshade or similar for the pram, too - am worried about him catching the sun.

Teaandcrumpets2 · 30/06/2015 15:24

DS was awake for 6 hours straight yesterday. Couldn't get him to settle and the last 2 hours were spent screaming :-( was thinking it was colic but now after reading everyone else's experiences I wonder if it was the heat. Not looking forward to tonight either!

avocadotoast · 30/06/2015 21:46

Think we might just go for nappy and blanket tonight too, I'll keep a vest by me in bed just in case DD feels cold in the night (she sleeps in bedside crib). She's also in a Sleepyhead though so I suppose that might keep some heat in.

We've had our usual evening fussiness and she's now asleep on my shoulder just wearing a nappy... I'm hoping we won't have a poo explosion! Breastfeeding in this weather is awful too, so sticky Sad

Ibu1986 · 01/07/2015 11:04

Hi ladies, I hope you and your little ones are doing ok with the heat wave. We live in a country where the daily average temperature is 33 degrees! DS sleeps in a vest with a light cotton swaddle (he has crazy moro reflexes), but the a/c is set to 23 degrees which is what doctors recommend here. I don't know how we're going to cope moving back to the UK this winter!

Chookford · 04/07/2015 12:46

Hello ladies

Hope everyone is doing ok? Weather has cooled down a bit here now thank god so we can actually breathe!

Mabel slept for 10 hours straight last night! I woke up in a total panic at 7am ran into her nursery to check on her and she was still snoring away! Know it's a fluke but it was lovely to have a full nights sleep!

Teaandcrumpets2 · 04/07/2015 19:02

Oh I'm so jealous chook! DS is 8 weeks and we still only get a max of 3 hrs at a time. Having said that, it is better than it was.... I would have panicked too!!

Chookford · 04/07/2015 22:34

tea it was scary but she was fine! I know it was a one off but hopefully it may continue!

applecore0317 · 05/07/2015 01:52

Wow chook!! I get a block of around four to five hours, then feed then another three hours and was impressed with that lol

Chookford · 05/07/2015 11:49

apple that's really good... I know I'm lucky both my kids have been amazing sleepers, she did 10 hours again last night I'm really hoping we may have cracked it!!

applecore0317 · 05/07/2015 14:58

Feel free to share any tips chook :D

she did every two hours last night due to sleeping all afternoon and evening ...

Ibu1986 · 06/07/2015 03:53

I can't even imagine what 10 hours sleep must be like! My DS sounds like yours apple with the 4-5 hour block and then 3 hours afterwards.

I was just wondering what time people put their LO to bed at night?

I usually put DS down between 8:15-9:15 bexause he cluster feeds and fusses. However, after major meltdown last night we put him down 7:45 and he slept until 7:45 this morning with 3 10 min feeds. Just wondering if I should be aiming to put him to bed earlier to try avoid the early evening witching hour which is driving me crazy!

applecore0317 · 06/07/2015 07:06

We go upstairs about nine and she settles between 10 and 11. Probably should take her up earlier really. Going to start Introduicng more of a routine this week, taking her up earlier for a bath frist then bed.

Chookford · 06/07/2015 08:13

Mabel has a bath around 7-7.30pm then we go down stairs and have a play on the floor then a final bottle usually between 8-8.30 then she is normally asleep by 9 I take her up to bed and make sure lights are out and Ewan is playing and that seems to be doing the trick at the moment but I know she is still very young and each day/night is different! She slept for 10hours again last night although did need a small feed at 3am but I can handle that!

Hope everybody is well? I read that we are expecting another heatwave end of the month even hotter than last week which I'm dreading!

Ibu1986 · 06/07/2015 08:32

Chookford that sounds like a similar routine and times to us.

Chookford and Apple- what times are your last naps of the day. I really struggle to get DS to nap past 6pm and even then he's seriously grumpy by 7pm.

Weirdly enough he's on his fourth nap of the day today with Ewan playing the harp tune (it's 3:30pm here) having already clocked up 4 hours today in naps.... this is very unlike him. I think it's due to the wonder week leap.

Chookford · 06/07/2015 09:21

ibu Mabel rarely naps after 4ish really she might have a 10 minute power nap but that's it! She doesn't have a proper sleep in the evening but as long as am she isn't screaming I don't mind that.. And she always seems to go to bed well

applecore0317 · 06/07/2015 22:54

Some days she barely naps at all and others loads... today she slept between 3.30 and five, then went to sleep again around 6.15 after a feed, only for a short while. She tends to sleeo better at night.
