Hi ladies, here is a thread to get us started. The support of other 'Maysters' has been so valuable, would hate to miss out on this once babies arrive. I have a feeling we are still going to have lots of questions and experiences to share! Smile

Welcome ibu hope Ewan works as well for you as it has for me :)

Ha ha chook, that will be my mantra from now on

Chookford · 24/06/2015 14:52

I've ordered a Ewan too after hearing all the rave reviews... How is everyone using him?!

applecore0317 · 24/06/2015 22:00

Mainly at night to settle her after feeds, she doesn't always like the same sounds. The last few days she has favoured the vacuum cleaner noise, last week it was the placenta noise

avocadotoast · 24/06/2015 23:30

Is anyone else having problems with reflux? DD has been spitting up her milk a lot lately and seems agitated sometimes during feeds, and doesn't seem to like being flat afterwards. We've raised her mattress and I'm trying to wind her between/during feeds but I'm not sure what else to do Sad

applecore0317 · 25/06/2015 02:48

Have you tried infacol or detrinex? I use infacol before feeds as much as possible to stop wind avocado

If it doesn't work then it's worth getting an appointment with your gp.

applecore0317 · 25/06/2015 02:49

also lay her on her back and move her legs around up and down and then in circular motions.

longestlurkerever · 25/06/2015 08:41

Hello. How is everyone doing? This time three weeks ago I was heading off for my induction. Somehow feels longer ago. DD2 is settling in well, though sleep is somehow getting worse each night. Anyone found it gets better again Wink

Chookford · 25/06/2015 09:03

longest my 3weeks is tomorrow amazing how time flies isn't! Mabel went through a bad patch a few nights ago think it was a growth spurt though and now she seems fine again.. Slept for 8 and a half hours last night but not taking that as we have cracked it! Hope you get a good nights sleep soon!

Ibu1986 · 25/06/2015 09:05

Thanks for the warm welcome.

Ewan has arrived finally! I'm trying not to get my hopes up too much, but I'll let you know.

I suspected reflux too and have been breastfeeding him in a more upright position so he's lying diagonally rather than horizontally if that makes sense. I also found he was far fussier at the breast during growth spurts and his recent developmental leap.

Does anyone else follow the Wonder Weeks?

avocadotoast · 25/06/2015 13:30

Yeah, I've been looking at Wonder Weeks. It's certainly matched DD's grizzly time over the past few days!

We have had a glorious two nights; DD has settled off to sleep no later than 1 and then woken up only twice for feeds (around 3:30 and 6:30). I hope this continues but I'm trying not to be too optimistic! Yesterday we even managed to go back to sleep after DH left for work at 7:30 and I woke up gone 9. It was amazing! I actually almost feel human!

Teaandcrumpets2 · 25/06/2015 18:55

Hi! Is it ok to join.... I'm a bit late I know. Out little boy is 7 weeks old today and is a gorgeous chunk. He Was 7lb 15 when he was born but now weighs 12lb 5! Am breast feeding which is going well but feels like I am always feeding him as he only goes 1-3 hrs between feeds.... I love it though. Sleep isn't great though and we too have invested in a Ewan but not sure how to use it really!! Anyway hello everyone!! Xx

applecore0317 · 25/06/2015 20:03

Welcome teaandcrumpets

Will have to Google wonderweeks

Had an unhappy baby the last few days, today being the worst as we can't put her down without her crying and today I couldn't get anything done or eat anything decent until DH got home. 3 weeks and 3 days now

avocadotoast · 25/06/2015 21:08

apple sounds familiar, we had the same last week! She's been much better the past couple of days though (hopefully it'll continue!).

Teaandcrumpets2 · 25/06/2015 21:27

Thanks apple our little one has been like it too. Really clingy and cries whenever he is not being held but have found things better this week. He seems happier lying on his activity mat etc. how is everyone getting on with self soothing to sleep?.. My health visitor said I be activity doing this but am struggling.

avocadotoast · 25/06/2015 22:06

Er, we're not self soothing at all! Well, not really. DD will usually fall asleep while I'm cuddling her, either after a feed, or while we're just sitting quietly. If I put her in the sling she'll usually drift off. I don't think I've put her down and expected her to go to sleep at all!

longestlurkerever · 26/06/2015 08:50

I can't manage self soothing either. Well,I do sometimes put her down awake but only after a feed. If she wakes in the night I don't know how else to settle her, even if she has only been asleep an hour (frequently). I tried a white noise app and it made no difference so am a bit reluctant to for out for a ewan. Tried everything with dd1 and nothing worked except feeding so we went with that. She was a rubbish sleeper till 13 months and has slept brilliantly ever since. Think I could hack that again though a year feels a long time!

Ibu1986 · 26/06/2015 09:07

Tea and crumpets your little one sounds a lot like mine. I try to feed him lots in the day as apparently they'll feed less at night. These past few nights he's slept from 9pm-7ish with 'only' 3 feeds which is the best he's managed so far.

Apple there's a major growth spurt at 3 weeks and depending on your due date, she may be going through her first developmental leap. I literally couldn't put down my DS during these times- he lived in the carrier or my arms.

There's a Wonder Weeks book, or I just downloaded the app for a couple of quid.

Ibu1986 · 26/06/2015 09:10

As for self soothing to sleep- pfffft! I'm still in the anything goes to get him to sleep phase so basically feeding/rocking/jiggling in carrier.

longestlurkerever · 26/06/2015 09:34

Welcome tea!

(Mmm, I fancy a crumpet now). Apple I had this a few days ago. Beth is only 3 weeks today but was a week overdue. She already seems more settled but is also waking up more often at night. At the moment I am just grateful she goes back down in her basket again after a feed but I am sure that'll wear thin soon!

Teaandcrumpets2 · 26/06/2015 10:12

Ah I'm glad im not the only one then! I wasn't keen on self soothing yet anyway but it was the health visitor who said to try to make it easier in the long run. A couple of times DS has settled in his basket in the afternoon/early evening on his own but it takes him a long time and never happens at night.... But then again I'm probably not patient enough! Moving the cot into our room this weekend as he's getting to big for his Moses basket now Sad

Chookford · 26/06/2015 10:34

tea hello and welcome!!

Mabel is going through that stage as well yesterday was a bad day... She just wouldn't settle finally got her to sleep at 9.30pm so was shattered! Am hoping today will be better she is asleep at the moment so long may that continue!

I'm not self soothing yet either she isn't old enough yet in my opinion! Grin

applecore0317 · 26/06/2015 15:55

Hopefully its just a phase then, she was five days overdue so had she been on time she would be a month old tomorrow :) will check out the wonderweeks app.

She as weighed on Tuesday and had put on a whole pound in a week!!! Lol, now 9lbs 4, birth weight was 7lbs 10.

Yeah I wouldn't be good with self soothing either.

Hope you get some sleep chook and longest and everyone else

KittyVonCatsington · 26/06/2015 18:37

Sarah is 7 weeks now and I too was struggling to settle as she is so much more alert but struggles to sleep without bottle and I didn't want to over feed (a few projectile vomits made me worried) so have started to try a dummy. It is sort of working! Might have to persevere for my own sanity (and ear drums!)

Teaandcrumpets2 · 26/06/2015 20:21

DS is 7 weeks too. He went through a stage of projectile vomiting for a couple of weeks unless you kept him upright for a least 30 mins after a feed and had to feed him practically vertical. Made night feeds very long!! That seems to have settled now but has been replaced my evening colic. Our neighbours must hate us!! He screamed for nearly 2 hrs the other night Sad. Nothing so far tonight though so maybe the infacol, massage and warm bath have helped. We are using a dummy to just to reduce the amount of time he is using my boob to soothe on! He's not keen on the dummy though....

Ibu1986 · 27/06/2015 03:42

I find it so reassuring to know I'm not the only one going through similar struggles. Once we hit the witching hour (around 6pm) my 7 week old DS does nothing but cry and cluster feed until 9pm. We live in a condo too so have plenty of neighbours...

We're trying to get him to take a dummy and bottle with expressed milk, but he's so stubborn and only wants boob.

We're also currently trialling Ewan at nap time. My father is rocking him in the chair with DS kind of cuddling it and the white noise on. Has anyone else had any success?
